X-COM: Enforcer

so uhhhhhh...

Like this is actually just a vampire survivors like,

unironically this is literally a game that could be summarized to being the first survivors like

someone made a third person shooter sci fi themed survivors game but divided the waves by levels that end when you destroy a specific amount of objects, you even have the pause points where you unlock upgrades for your stuff before it gets harder (in between the levels).

genuinely it's not really good, the whole thing feels like something you'd see in the background of a mid 2000's family friendly sitcom where they need to show the tennage boy being a BOY and he's playing this SHOOTER and it's a FUCKING VIDEO GAME man! Because the air of the writing is "look at this stupid nerdy scientist and look at YOU, you're such a fucking badass go shoot those aliens, they'll literally EXPLODE, yeah and we got GUNS tons of fucking GUNS because this is a motherfucking video gam you gamer you!" this game is the fever dream of a game that results when you give xcom to randy pitchford but if he was trying to make his first game and the only thing to guide him was the quote from John Romero that he has printed on a poster plastered on his wall, you know the one. "Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important." and he went all in on this xcom game with every conception in his slop ridden mind.

that's what xcom enforcer is and it isn't really bad, it's just such a bizarre game to see associated with xcom. It's story is just that horrendously terrible while the gameplay is at best just mostly mediocre, the mission objective doesn't change and the gameplay absolutely doesn't, however I do stand by this as being a strange proto survivors style game which might be an upside for someone, but seriously there's not much to it, but I'd expect you got this with the xcom bundle so I don't think you're getting this game on it's own thankfully. I'd recommend giving it a look if you got the bundle but jesus please stay away from this otherwise.

I'm sure in it's day it was fun. But I just found it tedious.

is it a good xcom game? no. is it a fun game? yes. are there better games in this genre? the modern EDF games, for starters. but as part of the x-com pack, this is alright. nothing especially offensive or bad about it.

It's not THAT bad

I’ll start by saying that I was entertained for a while by this 2001 game, the last of the supposedly original X-COM series. However, as a devoted fan of the original titles, I found it hard to reconcile this game with the X-COM legacy. Unfortunately, it doesn’t capture the essence of the original series, making it difficult to recommend a game that bears the X-COM name yet strays so far from what made the originals special.

The differences are glaring—turn-based strategy vs. a third-person shooter format. It doesn’t feel like a continuation of the same story. If you want to experience the true X-COM spirit, I suggest sticking with X-COM: UFO Defense or X-COM: Terror from the Deep, and skipping the last three games in the series altogether. Of those three, X-COM: Enforcer is the most enjoyable, but I’d rate it a modest 5/10, especially considering its age.

As for the gameplay, it becomes quite repetitive over time. Additionally, some missions feature a sudden spike in difficulty that can be frustrating and hard to explain. I might play for a couple more hours when I’m out of other options, but I wouldn’t recommend purchasing this game unless it’s part of a bundle with the original titles

Mindless X-Com flavored fun. Little janky. Might take some messing around with settings to get to work on your computer.
