About the Game
Last Wood is an oceanic survival colony simulation game. It is a world after the apocalypse; most of the continents have disappeared with only small islands remaining.You will guide several survivors in the building of rafts, survival on the ocean, defense, and in the exploration of the unknown world. You may even have offspring and the chance to discover the truth of what happened to the world.
Oceanic Survival
Sea farming, fishing, collection of rain water... Experience a unique survival simulation on the open ocean.
Survivors
Meet survivors with diverse backstories, characteristics, and specialties. Guide them in the building and crafting of handworks to meet their needs of water, food, and shelter. Help them develop skills, technology, and even relationships with each other.
Threat
Animals, raiders, deep ones, kraken... Defeat your enemies with traps, equipment, and strategy.
Sail and Exploration
Use paddle, sail, and rudder to travel. Scavenge generated islands for resources and lost technology. Exploring ruins of the old world or mysterious shrines of other species. Find out the truth of the apocalypse.
Nature
Overcome disasters such as storm or hailstone by loading your storage with supplies.
Random Event
Adrift survivors may join your colony. Voladors may jump on your shop and become a meal. Also, you might catch a treasure chest while fishing for a meal.
Last Wood was initially a prototype on itch.io. We received amazing support from the community (~250k views so far), so decided to put launch an Early Access version with tons of new content.

abandoned, steam should take this game off the store. hasn't been updated in over 2 years. DO NOT BUY
Do NOT buy this game. It is buggy as hell (and won't be fixed, as it's seemingly abandoned by devs) but you only start noticing it after the average refund hours are over (2hrs).
I can ignore texts overlapping, wrong spelling of words, etc. But survivors not listening to commands (esp. when another one is drowning for example) makes this game unplayable. Steam should really take this off the store. It's an insult to pay anything for this. I only hope they accept my demand for a refund after ~10hrs of gameplay.
This is not a full game. It was very obviously abandoned and is so glitchy/buggy that it is not worth it. Don't waste your money...
I was intrigued by this crafting game at first and then I played it.
The graphics are worse than Minecraft
The game seems easy at first but then it gets really grindy as you have to evolve the tech tree which takes forever.
Your people are dumb and will purposefully get themselves killed.
the game advances to the point whether your ready or not and you could spend 11.2 hours just to have your entire crew die.
Dont play this game there are so many others out their that are better, like Raft.
A high potential game. Sadly its only that. To many unpolished bugs make the game frustrating.
This game has so many coo things to craft, a great building system, cool islands and items, an interesting research system, and great development for all of the little people. But for the life of me, I cannot figure out why, time and time again, I had the resources to complete a task and the task would never be completed. The people would go idle and not work on whatever construction, crafting, or research I wanted done. Played this game for just over 2 hours, biggest mistake I made the whole time since now I can't return. It seems like it'd be fun, but the entire time there would be multiple queued construction tasks, crafts, or research that just would not be worked on. Infuriating. Cool game, but please just tell me what I need to do to get my people to work.
This is a lovely game. I love most things about it, but it isn't working the way it should. If it gets fixed up to be played as it is supposed to, it would be fantastic. For now Ill give it a low positive review.
The good: Its adorable. You can build your ship how you like, farm different resources, and run around fighting stuff.
The bad: The pathing of everything is terrible. Its beyond micromanaging trying to get them to do what they're supposed to be doing already. I go to explore an island, get my group together to mine the stuff outside. Message! Your guy has died! What guy? Why did he go inside? I did not tell him to do anything but mine a tree...
Also unloading from a harvesting trip could be easier then having everything be thrown on the floor to be picked up later.
No need for updates anytime soon other then to just fix up the game thats already there. It could be a lot of fun.
I tried to refund this game after 34 hours played, if that tells you the current state of a game that hasn't been updated in a year and a half according to patch notes and a discussion forum that is literally dead.
I'll say this up straight, this game has potential. It has huge charm, it's the reason why I stuck with it ever since I spotted in itch.io through early access and now 1.0 release.
BUT whatever charm and potential it has it's been buried in bugs, bad translation, and grind grind grind GRIND. I love survival, crafting, base building games and have lot of them but this has to be the grindiest of all with the research. And this has not always been the case. I dinstinctly remember it wasn't like this back during early days.
Maybe things will change and I will update my review in that case but as it stands right now at time of writing....I just cannot recommend it to anyone.
Game feels like an unfinished early access title.
It's buggy and the micromanagement is through the roof.
There is rot in this game. You don't know how much you need, nor how much you make in a day, but there is rot in this game.
If you build a campfire your people will start moving all of your wood there, then the game will tell you that you don't have wood even though you still have all the wood...
English translation is bad, so i don't want to know how worse the other translations are.
I am sad to have wasted money on this garbage.
This game is absolutely fantastic! Especially if you love cutesy but tedious survival games like minecraft! I recommend you absolutely follow the tutorial, because I didn't really and it took a while for me to adjust and see all of the different features that I would have known about if I paid any attention. I will warn you though, it is a little heavy on the PC. My old computer could barely run it.
In this game you need to give it a chance. You might not understand it until you read the items and learn the over all goals to the game. The last this to remember is that this game is still in beta, which means this are changing all the time so if their is something that you don't like, it might not always be there. Having said that this game isn't for everyone though I personal enjoy this game a lot.
The grammar is just awful. 15 mins played was me trying to make sense of what is being said in their backstory or what the perks were going on about. The interface is in English.... maybe if your 5 yrs old.

This game is not like Raft. Both came out around the same time on Itch.
The AI in this game is terrible.
Every games not failed due too mechanics not being met or mistakes, but because the AI forgets how to eat or drink and just stands idle until they die or you get hit with literally impossible to survive events such as massively OP enemies.
People not building when there is more than enough resources, And there is no way to manually command your people to eat or drink or build.
The priority system doesn't work at all.
There are rooms and jobs you can assign but they are VERY minimal and some dont even make sense.
The spelling and grammar is atrocious, While im pretty sure its made by Chinese devs, even a quick look at Google Translate would give better results than whats here.
At first the spelling and terms was entertaining, but after seeing "Flottage" instead of Flotsam for the millionth time.... less so.
What does "Finish Taste" when two people are talking even mean?
The balancing is a joke. One mutant can kill 6 armed and armored people and the game will toss 2-3 at you as well as multiple events at the same time such has 3 mutant invasions at the same time with a side of 6 sharks.
Game was fun at first but with these critical failings in a 2 year old E/A game make it unplayable past an very early point.
Cannot even remotely recommend the game without massive fix's and improvements.
My biggest regret is that Steam has a 2 hour play limit when this game's problems spring up only after that time is up!
I love games like this. Crafting games, survival games, colony building games... So I really want to like this game. That being said... I don't.
First it's English is absolutely horrible. This wouldn't be so bad if it was something that appeared to be getting fixed/patched. But I quit playing after I bought it. One of the reasons was I got sick of trying to understand much of the games text(tooltips and other such in game text).
Second, it's buggy as hell. From CTD's to things just not working, it was frustrating. Hell, I switched to the Experimental branch because I read in the forum that others having some of my problems were being told to switch to experimental because a lot of our issues were currently being worked on.
But I had had enough. I figured I'd quit playing for a few months and let it mature some. But I just came back to try it out and the bad english appears to be exactly the same. At least the tooltips in character creation was. Then the game CTDed. Now it can't download a missing file steams validation tool is trying to download.
So, do I recommend buying this game? Hell no. My recommendation is to use the money your thinking of spending on this to make a small fire to provide 10-30 seconds of warmth. You will get more use out of the money that way and save yourself a lot of frustration.
This game was very fun to play. Although it was very buggy and had TERRIBLE GRAMMAR, it was very fun. I would really love to have a tutorial, and the only reason I could figure out how to play was through the YouTube videos I watched. Other than that, it was very fun to play, and this game was SO worth the 15 buckaroos. This game has a LOT of potential! Can't wait for the release!
Is it a completed game? No, it says Early Access, and thats exactly what it is.
But if you are into colony building games like rimworld, embark or many others AND if you dont mind or even find it challenging to find workarounds for certain bugs its hell of fun to play. there is lots of stuff to do, needs to balance, lots of different materials and a LOT to craft and build and of course a lot of fighting. designing and perfecting your raft is a thrilling challenge and lots of fun.
gameplay and interface might be confusing if you are not used to these kind of games but if you stick with it and have the endurance to learn it, the game is very rewarding.
i got about 80+ hours out of it and im still not bored.
i have played a LOT of early access games and i have to say that the developer is one of the nicest and most dedicated i have ever talked to. he promised a patch every day and so far he kept his promise and integrated a lot of our suggestions in the game and he is constantly bugfixing.
dont listen to the negative 0,5 hour playtime reviews, they tell more about the reviewer than about the game.
conclusion:
if you can live with the downsides of early access and you like these dwarf fortress/rimworld style games, give it a shot, its REALLY worth it.

Let me say I bought this game the day of alpha launch. It's still playable, but there are obviously some not finished elements.
You start with 2 survivors in the sea on what seems a couple of floating pallets, and a sort of "flowerbed" where you, incredibly, can plant a lemon tree and see it grow full height in few seconds.
At the start you have to face two main problems: drinking and eating. One of the two survivors must have a fishing rod, so the second problem should be easily solved. But, about the first one, you'll have to start working hard on fixing it.
You can get leaves, lemons and wood from the lemon tree, and you can craft a lot of "flowerbed" more and plant other trees, in order to get other lemons and wood and leaves.
With wood you can create other "pallets" and extend your base. Or walls, doors, storage box, etc.
With wood and leaves you can create a rainwater container, but keep in mind that lemons, too, are useful for lower the "thirsty" bar.
Then, from this point the game is a mix of: get barrels and floating object you can see near your "pallets-boat", save drowning survivors increasing your "colony", send a survivor on a near "mini-island" in order to gather other resources, fight pirates or mutant trying to conquer your boat, and try to stay alive.
I played few hours until now. I must admit that it's very difficult, even in "easy" mode, and that I had to restart at least 10 times before set up a working colony.
It's enjoyable, this is for sure.
But still something is missing.
First of all bugs: I found that sometimes the colonists decide to not build something, above all the walls. I don't know why: I've got al the resources ... but they still don't build them.
Then, right now, leaking of informations is the big issue: I can't find out how to do this or that. A couple of examples. Although I succesfully researched new technologies, I still haven't figured out how research works. Then, I've discovered how to craft a water filter, but I need charcoal to build it ... and I don't know how to find it!
Lastly, I don't like the UI so much. I seems quite "bulky". And then I hate the fact that I can't force a survivor to do something: I would love this adding. Until them sometimes you may think you've lost control on your colony...
So, I think the developer(s?) need much more time to make this a "full game" but, as I wrote, even now it's enjoyable.
Fun game but can be a better game.
Few suggestions :
1. Construction system should be logically. Fore example, items(furniture, box...etc) should be movable, raft can be demolish by unit.
2. Too much click. Especially while collecting items. Select a tree, cut a tree, collect apple, collect leaves, collect wood...too tried.
3. Craft system is not intuition. For example, workbench is a basic item in this game, but rope is not include. It's really weird when I can make a lemon battery in workbench but still need to do a lot of research about rope making.
4. Map is a crap. A simple north arrow will help.
I actually enjoy this game. I tried it on easy, so I'm looking forward to playing it on a harder level. Make sure you build something to collect water or your people will die! Its a great game where you can take your time and build and hope for the best. I enjoy the graphics and music. It's early access so I expected there to be bugs. Can I say "WATER WORLD?" lol. Great game A++++
