Very unique but good shooter ported from the 3ds. Recommended for the cool different stage themes alone
My mouse hovered over this game as I was scrolling down to the bullet hell section of the Steam Golden Week sale page. The screenshots that popped up immediately caught my attention, both because of the type of game and its art style. For whatever reason, this game was listed in another category and, if not for the luck of my mouse cursor hovering over it, I would not have found it.
Relative to other games of a similar flavor, the word I would use to describe TOKOYO is chaotic. It has a colorful art style and the thematic essence of the game is not something seen elsewhere in this genre. Topped off with surprisingly good music (hopefully the developers release the soundtrack on Steam), this game has quickly become one of my favorites.
A few quirks with the game (some of them may be user error):
1. I cannot figure out how to change the keyboard controls. This is the most annoying one as, while the default controls are definitely playable, I would prefer to use something else.
2. I cannot find any setting for volume in-game. Not a big deal as I simply lowered the volume via the Windows mixer.
3. I cannot find any way to exit the game. Again, not a big deal as I simply Alt+Tab and close the game via the task bar.
All of these are minor quirks and definitely should not hold anyone back from experiencing this unique game. Thanks to the developers for bringing this to Steam!
Wow, this was a surprise release for me that I had no clue was coming out. I like it a lot! It's a weird hybrid two screen shmup that I assume was on 3ds. It has such a unique aesthetic and so much charm. Currently 4 of the 6 displayed levels down and this game can be hard. The language barrier doesn't really mess with anything up to this point as long as you know to meditate infront of the master to get to level select. I highly recommend!
