About the Game

OVERVIEW

THE SPY WHO SHRUNK ME is a stealth game where you are a superspy armed with a shrink ray! It's 1981. Sneak onto a train inbound to Moscow and infiltrate a software company that harbors grave secrets bound to turn the Cold War into a very hot one. Armed with banana peels, airbag mines and the capability to shrink enemies and drop them in toilets and paper shredders, you are the only one standing between the dreaded General Bolscotchkovich and his Soviet army.

The Spy Who Shrunk Me is inspired by Ant-Man & Austin Powers while being a gigantic love letter to the legendary No One Lives Forever series of games.

AN EPIC STEALTH ESCAPADE

  • 🕵 Be agent AUDREY SMOOTHSPY, the only agent aloof enough to fight the Soviet army all by herself. Armed with a stolen Soviet shrink ray, an assorted inventory of spy gadgets and some banana peels, you're the only one affordable enough for the job of saving the free world!

  • 👢 Keep the cold war communist regime under your heels (literally) by (also literally) flushing their cronies down the toilet! Manipulate your enemies size using your trusty shrink ray. And when the going gets tough, zip past enemies as a tiny shrunk spy.

  • 👒Audrey's adventure takes you all the way to MOSCOW and BERLIN to find out what a sinister software company office complex is actually hiding within! Sneak aboard a train, defuse a nuke and kidnap a scientist into a purse! Don't get caught or risk getting stomped on!

  • 🎶 A fully voice-acted narrative adventure with multiple endings and music that makes you want to jam Soviets down paper shredders!

  • 🔮 Play your way! Challenge yourself by completing the adventure without killing anyone or without getting detected.

the game has interesting mechanics involving spy gadgetry, but the stealth, dialogue and overall objectives are boring. the experience feels underwhelming and underdeveloped.

The game begins with a message that looks like an awkward attempt at self-deprecating humour.
One minute later, you discover how matter-of-fact it actually is, when the very first thing you check and confirm is the asinine absence of manual saves.
More devs who hate players... Yay ! Perfectly equipped for a corporate career.

Now, an incompetent save system is a serious blunder, but not automatically a thumb down; it could be compensated by great gameplay. Let see...
- No checkpoints. Ouch ! Getting tired really fast of restarting levels from scratch. Great gameplay isn't gonna be enough, it will have to be exceptional.
- Knockouts are only available through consumables.
- Knockouts are not permanent. So not so, they last a whopping 3 seconds. Not helping the case.
- The traversal gadget has a cooldown.
- The shrinking tool has limited ammo and a cooldown.
- No shadows, no footsteps, only unknowable lines of sight.
- The level design is bland, lifeless, unfit for the mechanics, has no safe observation spots, no worthy teleport destinations, no miniature escape routes... Heretic's ovum did it better in 1994.

Well, gameplay isn't exceptional then, is it ? Anything that could have been fun has been nerfed or neutered.
Generic indie art not to the rescue.
Not a nanosecond of entertainment.

It's short (about 2 hours) and fun enough. I kinda turned on the humor at the end when the main character monologues about the game being just long enough that it can't be refunded. I don't know how to feel about ending on a joke like that. Weird flex?

The Spy Who Shrunk Me is an indie stealth game inspired by No One Lives Forever. You play as Audrey Smoothspy, a British agent trying to stop a Soviet nuke attack during the Cold War. You are equipped with cool gadgets such as a shrink ray, short-range teleporter, time-stop watch, and others as well as... a banana peel. It's not a very long game, and can be beat around an hour if you're fast enough.

I really liked NOLF, and this game is like a love letter, being a spy-themed game with similar atmosphere, humor, and a colorful aesthetic which strong colors that sometimes reminds me of Mirror's Edge. The shrink ray is definitely a unique gameplay mechanic which allows you to dispose of enemies or make yourself more hidden and able to move under/around objects. The gadgets are also Dishonored-inspired, and it being one of my favorite games definitely means a good thing.

Being a short indie game, don't expect the length and polish of the aforementioned titles. Stealth seems to rely on vision-only since I can run behind enemies and they don't notice. You cannot knockout enemies (except temporarily with the banana peel), and the levels doesn't have secret alternate paths that stealth games usually have. But overall I still think The Spy Who Shrunk Me is a great indie stealth game with unique aesthetics and gameplay mechanics, surely worth a try.

I've only played the first mission of this game, and holy..

The opening title card for the game where they lay it out for you stating basically:
we're untalented, brain dead, terrible sense of humor on a short dev cycle with low budget.
They tell you it's gonna be a poorly done game, so you should set your expectations VERY low.

Which i did.

That short few minutes i spent on the first mission made me love what they were selling even more.
Reminds me of parody games such as Pyst, or Deer Avenger; You didn't buy those games expecting an AAA experience, you bought them for a good laugh.

Not sure how any one expected a serious AAA polished game based on the screenshots on show on the steam page, step into this game with LOW expectations, and a sense of humor on par with like Austin Powers.

WILL be playing more, and completely recommend picking it up, doubly so on sale.

Deserves a mixed rating. It would be purely positive if I was only judging non VR but the VR version feels half baked and not fun. Causes motion sickness too. I would love to continue on non vr but I already got so far on the vr version that I don't want to restart so I have to either force myself to finish while not having fun and getting sick or I can restart and play over half of the game again just to have a good time after NOT having fun playing what i already did just to get to the continuation of said fun. Super annoying. Levels should unlock on both versions if they are completed on either.

Good graphics, solid stealth mechanics, good level design, runs well on Vive Pro 2 with wand controllers. I'm maybe 20% done, I got it on sale because stealth games aren't my favorite, I might not finish it right away.

As long as you ignore the bonus mission after the ending, this game is exactly as good as expected, and exactly as good as it claims. While it is definitely buggy at times with hit collision, you can work with it just as often. and unlike most games made quick and cheap (10 months, small team) this one actually has some pretty interesting gameplay. It leaves right when it's starting to drain. For the $10, less on sale, it's worth it.

Besides, be honest. You didn't find this randomly. You were either recommended it, or were specifically searching for games involving perspective or shinking. and if you like shrinking and you like stealth games, you'll find an afternoon's fun.

I can not recommend this game. I really REALLY wanted to play this and enjoy it but with the horrible controls, the inventory system causes no end of frustration and trying to use items in game that you actually need to use it a mess. The story is fun but I ended up with the game crashing twice and that second time just did it for me and I quit the game and asked for my money back. If they fix the controls and make the inventory system work better, i mean there are tons of vr games out there that have good inventory systems you could follow, maybe the game will be worth it then but not right now as it is. Sorry, just can't enjoy a game this glitchy.

Really wanted to like this one. The concept's great, as is the sense of humor, but the AI is poorly implemented and there's just nowhere near the polish needed for a game in this genre.

Positive
- Good virtual reality experience
- Nice ideas for weapons and how to use them
- Graphics of a 3D world suitable at the time of the game's release

Negative
- because the game is based on the controller, there are some difficulties in controlling the game in virtual reality
- the story of the game is repetitive and somewhat superficial

Here is my experience of playing it

This a janky spy themed VR game with very outdated graphics, awful aliasing issues, and dull gameplay. Gameplay involves sneaking from one point to another and either shrinking yourself or enemies in the process. Once you are detected, the mission ends. However, one major problem is that your main weapon, the shrink gun, constantly runs out of ammo. And once you run out of ammo, the levels become more frustrating than fun. Another issue I had with the game is that there is very limited interactivity with the environment. I mean you can't open drawers or pick up cups or anything really. The inventory is also out in front of you and tends to get in the way when trying to touch anything. Graphics are also pretty bad and the settings didn't seem make it look any better. This game also takes up over 20 GB for some reason. Overall, I cannot recommend this game.

I wish I could hate this game, but I can't

Don't get me wrong - this game is very unpolished, glitchy and not optimized (and game size is 20 gb)
But I still love it. It's short, but has different levels, and ends just in time when you're get tired of it.

Game has a lot of remarcable levels and great humor. Creators put love and effort into it - they didn't managed to make it perfect, but this game is what it is, and that's beautiful.

Cons:
- Short (1,5-3 h, with all collectibles max 6)
- Glitchy
- Unoptimized
- Car level has a bug with car reset (Please, fix it, it's hell a lot frustrating)

Pros:
- Great humor
- Fell of spy cartoon
- Diverse levels
- Original mechanics
- Several ways to complete mission

I hope devs will make second part with a lot of improvements, and I'll wait for it

Love the idea, love the games this is inspired by.. hate that you cannot rebind controls and most of the time crouching doesn't work, it's a bug that has been known for over a year but not fixed. The game in its core is good, but it needs a lot of polishing.

-glitchy
-dumb AI
-just awful sound
-barebones stealth
-clunky controls
-very short

I started the game, and it was fun at first. I liked the concept and the comedy. But it turned out that the gameplay parts of it are just crap. First of all it is glitchy. And the levels are poorly designed, they all look the same, there's only one type of enemy, and the shrink ray.... the shrink ray has ammo, which is just really really not fun. Tho the shrink ray is also not even necessary. I've only played maybe 30 mins or so, but so far, you could beat the game without the shrinking ray.

There's more to address here, like the slow voice acting, the repeating enemy phrases or more. The game had a lot of potential but it wasn't fully used. Maybe this idea could be used for a great mini series.

in short, glitchy and not fun
- standing up after crouching makes the character go through whatever's above her head
- leaning moves the camera through walls
- objects can be moved through a wall and then thrown
- enemies have basic walking patterns that never resemble what a security guard would be reasonably expected to do
- the game has no indication/guidance on how the level is intended to be completed, and yet the strict alarm system and no permanent weapons to speak of suggest there's a particular solution to every puzzle
- the amount of cheese in writing could make anyone lactose intolerant

I've always want a game about scaling people.
Right now, I've only complete 1/3 of the game, but so far the game is just not fun.
At first, it was just the voice acting being annoying, and the tutorial being boring.
But the more I play, the more I feel like the game has no idea what it's doing.

Let's talk about shrinking, which is written in the title of the game, it should be the core mechanic, right?
Not really. If you're shrunk, you're harder to spot; the opponent is shrunk, he won't be a threat.
THAT'S IT. And harder to spot means it's easier to find cover, while they can still see you fast af trough walls.
Also, it's not like the level are specifically design for scaling.
The world is huge and empty when I'm tiny, and shrinking others doesn't do anything beyond getting rid of an enemy.
Oh, and the shrink ray has ammo limit. WTF? Doesn't this game has a weapon cooldown feature?
Yeah, the game would be too easy if I can just shrink and kill everyone, but that is because the levels don't require planning.
It's just like playing Portal, but the levels are too easy so it has to limit how much portal you can make.
It's okay to make a game that doesn't require brainpower, but it should at least be fun to interact.
Once I run out of ammo, the game is just a pain in the ass, making a way to the objective that no one cares about.

Large part of the game (that so far I've play) is just about sneaking from one spot to another.
And instead of tweaking the level so it fits the existing mechanics, the game just keeps adding new random feature.
On top of that, these random feature comes from "what the player can perform" instead of "how the world works".
The levels are too often just square obstacles with a uninspiring form, the enemies are...just annoying.
The world isn't fun to interact with, the core feature is very limited to perform, what's the point?
This game is just a chore to play, I won't recommend to anyone unless it's about learning from mistakes.
May be the rest of the game is better than I imagine, but the library level stopped me finding out if there is a good part.

For the developers, please go watch GMTK talks about Nintendo on Youtube.
The core mechanics has a huge potential, it just needs the game to build on that.
This should be a game about shrinking, not sneaking.

This game is pretty cool, but the vr optimization is horrible. I have a 1070 sc and coffee lake overclocked and had to turn my ss down to .3 to have it still run horribly??? Devs seriously need to work on this. I would recommend holding off if you are planning on playing this in vr until they have verified they have fixed this issue...

Fun game with potential to expand into something great.
Some of the comedy is a bit eh but other bits had me chuckling.

I get a "No One Lives Forever" kinda vibe with this game which I love (pls remake this game Monolith)

I encountered a few bugs which made me fall out of the map however these have since been patched. (catland have been great at fixing issues when they arise)

I'm excited to see what other kind of levels/gadgets they bring in the future.

While still early and a little buggy, this game brought back some fond memories of "No one Lives Forver" and has its own cheesy sense of humor. A plus is also the fact its not a run and gun sort of game, you need to move and plan, plan and move.

UPDATE: After getting past a couple B.S. parts (due to bugs) I've changed my mind about the game.

This game isn't ready for prime time just yet, but it's still pretty fun.

The good:
1. The shrink ray mechanic is fun! This might be a good cheap game when it's done and all the problems are ironed out.
2. The artwork and music are good
3. Good voice acting
4. Good humor

The bad:
1. Shrink ray projectiles sometimes will literally go THROUGH the broad side of an enemy's chest and "miss". This is made worse by the fact that the reload time for the shrink ray is so long. If your shot goes through an alerted agent, you're as good as dead. You can't afford to miss any shots, even once.
2. There is little ability to correct gameplay errors. If you make even the slightest mistake, such as your projectile traveling through an enemy's chest, you'll be dead very soon.
3. You have to crouch and look very far down to drop a mine. Why can't I just look down to drop a mine? Or just drop it w/o looking at all.
4. When you're in a spray and pray situation, and deplete all your ammunition, you will die before Audrey will finish saying "I am out of ammo". As an audio cue, it's useless. At least pair it with an additional "click" sound or something.
5. The agents will sometimes "see" you when there isn't a line of sight between you and the agent.
6. I fell off the map once

Bottom line: Some bugs and design hiccups make it frustrating to play, but if you make it past those, the game is overall pretty fun. I'm sure it'll be better on final release.
