STORY
A young girl awakens on the seashore.
All that remain are her sister’s yellow bucket and the sand castle they had just made together.
Her mother is nowhere to be seen.
Blinded by the dazzling sunlight, the young girl takes her first step on a strange, mysterious journey...
CHARACTERS
The Girl
An innocent and curious girl.
Wearing her favorite blue sundress, she came to the seashore for a picnic together with her mother and little sister.
But upon awakening from her nap, she realizes that she is now all alone.
Charlotte
A young confined to a sanatorium, her body rife with illness.
She is very quiet and has an air of maturity far beyond most children of her age.
She waits longingly for promises made long ago with someone very special to be fulfilled.
Marie
Marie is a cheerful, pure, and active girl.
She whimsically runs around the dark depths of the forest, wearing her pajamas and a cape.
But there is an important reason she came to this forest.
Ophelia
Daughter of a prestigious family owning vast lands and an extravagant mansion.
She is plagued by intense self-loathing due to her belief that she is ugly and plain.
Raised by cold and unloving parents, she spends her days in loneliness and despair, following the orders of her mother and father.
The Tall Man
A mysterious tall man with black clothes, blue hair, and golden eyes.
SYSTEM
●AutosaveWhile you can save your game anytime, an autosave feature is also included.
However, it is recommended that you to save your game often.
●Map
Once you acquire the map, you can check it anytime.
You'll need to work out your location on your own, but you will receive many hints as well, such as what to check and where to go.
●Destination Guidance
This can be used to check your current destination or purpose at any given time.
However, you are not required to follow this guide at all times.
You may even make some new and interesting discoveries by stopping at different places along the way.

We started developing this game based on a few simple ideas: "Let's make a 3D game," and "Can we portray the stories and world we've imagined as a video game?"And finally, the game is here.
We hope you have a wonderful experience traversing this strange world and unraveling the story, as well as taking a deeper look into concepts such as purity, ugliness, joy, and anxiety - some of the complex and constantly moving parts that make up the human psyche.

I felt the emotions of the game and the story, it made me cry a little
CINERIS SOMNIA is a gorgeous exploration game with elements of horror and mystery. I absolutely loved every minute of playing this, and am so happy I discovered it! It places you in lonely, desolate settings with surreal undertones as you guide each character through discovery and acceptance. I really like that the character you play as is not necessarily the *main* character, but merely a tool used to tell each girls' story as you progress. Each chapter has a moving story that gradually expands as you explore each area. My favorite chapter in particular is Chapter 2 (Ophelia's story), as it introduces classic horror game mechanics-it puts me very much in the mind of Haunting Ground! The atmosphere and audio is superbly done (I just wish the beautiful music played more often!) and the voice acting is fantastic. Overall, this is an amazing experience; as long as you give it a chance!
I notice that the negative reviews talk about two things, one being that the exploration/environment is "boring". Firstly, the chapter that you start out in (outside of the prologue) is a sanitarium. It's supposed to look sterile/bland, in stark comparison to the main character's color scheme. But, if you'd give the game more time, the environment changes as you progress through the story-it's supposed to be immersive and take time; this isn't a game you finish in one sitting. This takes me to the other point of it being easy to get lost and having to use a walkthrough-this simply isn't the case if you pay attention to the objectives in your journal. They very plainly show a picture of the room you are meant to go to; this game requires observing your surroundings and having good memory. Cineris somnia sets its objectives up so that you do this very thing~ you go back and forth between rooms so that you can start to map the locations out in your mind, rather than having to pull up the game map every five minutes.
I think if you look at this game as an experience, rather than a puzzle game that has to have set rules, you'll enjoy it a lot more. It's most certainly worth the money and more, and I very much recommend this to anybody that has a soft spot for PS2 era games~ (Also, a tip: be sure to save often!)

I just finished one of the stories but I'd recommend it and give it a thumbs up for the beautiful visuals and aesthetics. I was surprised when I discovered that it was made in 2018! I thought it was way older. Always a fan of the PS2 graphics so I'm really happy with it. Stunning work!
Exploration and light puzzles. Surreal and depressing. Highly recommended to fans of Rule of Rose and Fatal Frame 4

I was on my knees BEGGING for the people to run faster the entire game but later in the game, I was glad for the slowness. I had time to think and discuss the topic with my peers which was, in fact, needed since the game is so confusing.
very good storytelling through atmosphere, letters, and dialogue - really loved the piano tracks, and the horror elements were sooo good. ophelia best girl. walking and "running" are a bit slow, but overall this game was beautifully done
When making a game that's a puzzle walking simulator the most important thing is the MAP and they missed on the most important thing of the game which is that. The maps suck, they're barely any help if im being honest, it's very easy getting lost in this game so you will have to use some online walkthroughs which makes the gameplay feel like a boring chore.
I mean when even the positive ones are saying the navigation is bad and to use a guide...that tells you something.
In appearance it looks nice but the gameplay is not.
Just ended the hospital chapter, and felt a mix of Silent Hill 2 exploration with Never Again war related drama (damn right in the feels).
The loly mansion resembles Haunting Ground Belly castle with fancy environment and furniture. If you like any of these games, give it a try.
I love this game, such a beautiful layout. I recommend this game if you like kinda scary? but long story and lore type.
Allow me to attempt to make this product more approachable if I may by sincerely putting together a comparison combination so you are able to decide whether it is for you or not.
Deadly Premonition tier graphical style + Ethereal Gothic vistas (Think alt music album covers) + Predominantly Narrative Exploration (Walking Simulator) gameplay with a single chapter branching into Stealth Horror (Run n' hide) + Minimalist classical-based soundtrack with rare Dark Ambient during the Ophelia chapter + Harvester Games (Think The Cat Lady/Lorelai type dreariness) + Labyrinthian/Old-school Survival Horror puzzle design + Dream logic/Dream-like storytelling that leans into Surrealist imagery occasionally + Silent protagonist + Over-the-shoulder cam with somewhat common fixed camera/first-person (Namely at the SH 4: The Room inspired hub area) views mixed in...
Overall if you're into slow and atmospheric games similar to it, it's most likely for you. But I would strongly advise using a guide because this game's greatest weaknesses are it's navigation and awkward animations.
I fully understand this came out around 2018, but it looks like a time traveler conjured up an esoteric 2000s/early 2010s video game and published it onto the steam store late.
a hidden gem <3 an intriguing, melancholic, and atmospheric game that has a dark, eerie undertone with a dash of horror elements. beautiful visuals and soundtracks. lots of heavy symbolism. i rly love the gothic touch imo. very ps2 horror-esque ambience + graphics; highly recommended if you like silent hill/rule of rose/haunting ground. slow paced however, the MC moves at a snail's pace so you will need patience to walk around back and forth and find clues.
I have no idea what this game was about.

I haven't played Silent Hill or similar titles, so for me this game had Dark Souls 2 atmosphere (in a best way possible).
Might add something later, when I replay it for true ending.
resident evil meets a house in fata morgana
I came into this game thinking it'd be a walking simulator only to discover that while, yes it kinda is, also includes a horror chapter that I was not expecting. This game has such a beautiful atmosphere and watching the world's deteriorate as the story goes on was crazy. If I had any requests, is that there was a free mode where we can just walk around.
This game should be called CINEMA SOMNIA because it is literally Cinema 2.

(I spent another THREE hours speedrunning the game AGAIN to get the final ending only for it to be him walking out into a back and white matrix ass shit for 5 seconds.. WTFFFFF 🤬)
Cineris Somnia deserves so, SO much more recognition than it's had. It’s an atmospheric, story-rich third-person adventure that feels like a spiritual successor to the great PS2 psychological horror games, with flavours of Silent Hill 2, Haunting Ground and Rule of Rose…and even a smattering of the more recent What Remains of Edith Finch. Released in 2018 by a 2-dev team, some control elements feel understandably dated…but the overall quality is simply astonishing (and seems to be typical of this studio’s releases).
The Tall Man finds himself in an unfamiliar place once again - a sanatorium this time, perhaps, or a mansion with a harrowing past. As ever, he must unravel the devastating story that’s led him here. He’ll explore each location, unlocking paths that lead deeper into its secrets in his pursuit of clues and sentimental relics. At the end of each chapter, a resolution - but will it finally bring peace?
Both over-the-shoulder and fixed camera angles are used to great effect, creating drama and tension while a haunting piano score drifts over the top. Environments are pleasingly detailed, oozing atmosphere and intrigue as they gradually warp and wane over time. You can tackle three of the five chapters in your choice of order, with some being more complex or action-oriented than others…but all are symbolic, thought-provoking, devastatingly sorrowful tales told in creative ways. Rather than solving puzzles, you simply unlock new rooms by finding keys, or by witnessing an important part of the story: the inevitable backtracking can sometimes make the pace feel slow, but a desperate need to complete the story never ceased to drive me on. There’s no combat, but there are some risky situations and spooky moments.
I honestly loved this game. I wish the map cleared markers once complete and showed your character’s location, but they're minor points: this is a game to take your time with, to sink into its atmospheric, ever-evolving environments, lore-rich discoveries, soulful writing and elegant artistic direction. A beautiful, harrowing journey that will stick with me.
(Extra details: Around 7 hours to complete the story. There is a "True" ending, which requires an additional play-through if you miss any of the 4 collectibles required. I would absolutely buy a physical, and it seems such a shame that there will probably never be one. Works fine on Steamdeck. If you enjoyed this, check out the dev's other game, Hollow Cocoon - it's quite different mechanically, but still a great play.)
This game is really beautiful. From the first section on the beach even to the decaying hospital.
This game is a bit stupid for letting you choose which chapter you want to get started with because I feel it would be best for the Mansion chapter to come last since it's the most horror packed. Speaking of horror, this doesn't feel like a horror game at all, until you get to the mansion, but the other 2 chapters, forest and hospital, have each a section that would feel welcome in a horror game like Silent Hill.
Also this game gives hella Rule of Rose vibes, classical music, the beach girl looks like Wendy, a girl carrying around a bird cage, a confusing story that appears to be like dreams or rather stories being told, the hospital section has you going to a rose garden.
It has it's downsides like it's really slow, the character runs at a snail's pace and it's sometimes not clear what to do next so you just have to go to every room and hope you interact with something that will give you an objective to follow. The characters sometimes look funny and there are visual glitches during so many sections and sometimes there are choppy frame rates.
But all in all, this is a gorgeous game and I would really recommend to play it if you can get behind how slow it is sometimes. I might be biased just because of the Rule of Rose vibe, since it's one of my favorites.
50% walking 40% getting lost and only 10% admiring the beauty and storyline. Best way to approach this game: go on YouTube and watch walkthrough videos with 2x speed-_-b
