Hmm. The game works in the expected way etc, but honestly, I don't have the patience the play this game to the extent that it would be possible. The main puzzle path is kinda nice, but it has too much repetition. You'll be placing *a lot* of blocks and small objects. So while the game is as advertised, I don't think I have the patience to play this very much. It's for someone else.
As a puzzle lover, Gadgeteer has quickly become one of my favorite games. The satisfaction of solving each puzzle by piecing together a machine is incredibly rewarding. The game's physics engine works well and the machines function as you would expect. Getting to build the machines in VR is a lot of fun, top of my list of VR games.
Really great concept and a fun game, but it would be so much better if you could equip tools on both hands at the same time, at least in sandbox mode. It can be a little frustrating trying to build the machines with one hand.
Great physics sandbox with long puzzle campaign and a lot of custom levels.
Gameplay is well suited for VR: you put every piece of chain reaction machine by hand. One wrong move and the whole thing collapses just like in the real life except here you can re-do your actions by pressing a button. Controls are responsive and satisfying, I especially like how it uses attached tools like in Red Matter for hand interactions.
Campaign has 61 puzzles that took me about 7 hours to solve. Although they are more of a "problems" than "puzzles": there are a lot of possible solutions to every level and execution and fine tuning takes much more time than planning. Top-rated customs levels are also quite good and sandbox has plenty of cool gadgets that were not present in Puzzle mode.
Quite soothing game, finished all Puzzles in about 4 hours. Was worth it.
Its like playing with dominoes but when you hit a piece and they all fall you can just reset your last action.
Calming, progressively challenging puzzle game that makes me want to make a huge Rube Goldberg machine
This is such a great casual, creative, VR game. Everything I thought it would be, love it! Seriously good game.
Did you ever want to make your room full of dominoes and marble runs but not have the hassle of making a mess. This game does the trick.
Gadgeteer is a fun VR game. It has simple controls and really good mechanics for this puzzle game. You progress through the levels that has been given to you and sometimes you just stand there and think "how do I do this" or "lets try what happens if I do this!".
There has been some glitches in the game but I do believe it might be my headset that was lagging. At times one of the hands stops working but just turning on and off the controller can fix it. This might of been fixed already by the time you are reading this.
For 2 hours in the game I can see how much fun it has given. I have still more levels to progress and some more things to unlock but I am looking forward to the rest of the game and what mysteries to uncover.
In the end I do recommend this game for everyone. For people that have major motion sickness I do say try and see if one of your friends have to the game to try out before you purchasing this game.

Fun time sink in vr. With workshop support you don't even have to put in any effort creating elaborate machines, you can download and watch!
game is really fun, only about an hour in but the fact that users can create and upload their levels means even after finishing the first 60 there will be plenty to download and play.
How is this game not more popular?? This should be up there with Beat Saber, Boneworks and Superhot as an absolute VR essential.
I've played 100s of VR games as I write for a VR gaming website and I can tell you that this is one of the most accomplished on the market. It has real Nintendo vibes in terms of accessibility, fun and the love and attention that has gone into it.
The puzzles are incredibly ingenious and regularly have me squealing in delight when I solve them. They're also a lot of fun, incredibly addictive and only possible because of the power of VR. The fact that it's all tied together by exploring a small lab/flat which includes clever little tidbits of story and lore just adds to the magic.
Everything also just works. This is an intricate game that requires a lot of physics simulation and I couldn't belive how polished it is and how well it runs. The learning curve is also perfect and at no point did i feel overwhelmed by the amount of parts that I had to manage.
There's also a full Sandbox mode which I havent even really got into properly yet and all this for £10!! Unbelievable value.
This is a 10/10 game for me BUY THIS if you have any interest in the VR scene at all.
An absolutely charming, relaxing physics puzzle game. All the tinkering about with dominoes and marble tracks you ever wanted, with none of the cleanup.
Super simple or as complicated as you want it to be... there are plenty of other reviews that go into more detail about the game play.
Ill only say that almost everything works great, there are little bugs, but non game breaking.
I love the game, i havent finished it, (im at around lvl50 as i write the review ~4hrs in) and im already dreading finishing it because i want MORE.

Do you like puzzles? Do you love science and engineering? Are you fascinated with Rube Goldberg machines and you always wanted to experiment with them and build gigantic Ruberg machines at home but couldn't do so due to lack of space? Do you dream of taking part in annual Rube Goldberg machine-building contests in places such as University of California, MIT, Carnegie Science Centre or The Science Olympiad?
Well, your dream has come true, because thanks to modern VR technology and passionate and committed developers Metanaut's two years' worth of hard work, it's finally possible to build simple or complex machines of this kind at the comfort of your own home in Gadgeteer. The graphics is soothing, calming, appropriate and beautiful and so is the background music, so much so that I'm planning on buying the soundtracks in near future to use as a sleeping aid. There's a short yet polished and interactive tutorial that explains the mechanics, and it's designed in such a way that you will go through it only once and quickly learn all that you'll ever need to know to solve the puzzles or to build your machines in Sandbox mode.
Out of the 60 problems I've solved only 11 so far and I'm highly pleased with how they start off very simple but then begin to get a bit complex as I progressed, and how even though it's in early access there's absolutely no bug to be found. One thing I'd highly recommend the devs is to implement Steam workshop integration as soon as possible so that the community could make more puzzles, environments, objects and gadgets and share them with each other. On top of that, may be the devs could even make more complex puzzles in future and sell them as DLCs at an affordable price? Just an idea!
At £11.39 (15 US dollars?) Gadgeteer won't break your bank, and if you are worried about motion sickness then good news is it has absolutely none of that. Since it's possible to move forward, backward, up, down and snap left and right using your controller and grip buttons, it's entirely possible to play it while seated. A comfort vignette option is still available for those who really want it.
I used to think Talos Principle VR was the best puzzle game ever for VR, but Gadgeteer has proved me wrong. Kudos to the developers for making this VR gem. I can't wait to see more content and features by the time the full version is released.
This game looks like it could turn out FANTASTIC!
It is a cute little Rube-Goldberg building game. I haven't played very long as of yet, but I plan to play a lot more, especially as it updates. The story mode gives you pre-made puzzles with plenty of different ways to complete them. It is a lot of fun, combined with the messy science lab look of the world. The sandbox mode is where I can see this game really shining, however. There is a bunch of different tracks and blocks and other objects to make a structure from, which works amazingly in VR.
My only gripes are the imprecise building, which could be greatly improved with an option for angle snapping, as well as some difficulty building tracks, which could be improved with a guide system, similar to the one in the tutorial. Some things to really make it shine: Steam Workshop support! Co-op! More items! I want this game to succeed as one of the VR greats!
Very quick update: after the latest patch i spent about 40 minutes in this game before having to go to bed.. Found the controls much better: no random automatic snapturning and ability to remove "comfort" mode(the shrinking of vision field while moving) I wont be able to game for a couple of days so my gametime will stay small- but i can asure you this is a game that you can spend vast ammounts of time in due to very satisfying physics and great tools. also im not sure if its been update or if i mised it first- you can quickly change tools by just tapping the hamburger button on the vive wands(menu button)

An awesome game with TERRIBLE locomotion.
i was never the biggest fan of fantastic contraption(except for the controls, which are pure genius) and so i thought this might not be for me...
Boy was i wrong, i really had fun doing this.
But the controls and movement is terrible, the developers really should take a deep long dive into some other games,
because the movement in this one made me so annoyed i had to stop playing.
you move by dragging, which is okay...
but for some reason you snapturn automatically when moving near specific areas.
its very disorienting and totally rubbish. the menues are abysmal with no way to turn off "comfort" mode or change anything important. and changing tools is someting that takes too long... so i decided that i really like this game, but the controls movement and menues are in such a need for an overhaul i will not play it until its been patched so i dont have to be so frustrated.
Was expecting more intricate gadgets but it currently consists of different sized domino style blocks , a few wood pieces with grooves for the ball to run along, a couple of turns , a hinge, see-saw levers etc.. not a great deal but it is early days.
The environment is a simple office space.
looking forward to testing out a more gadget pieces. and dynamic assets such as magnets, string , rubber bands , cloth dynamics , fluids etc..
Interface is minimal and easy to learn.
This is a great Rube Goldberg game. I'm halfway through the 60 levels with about 2.5 hours in the game. The physics is very realistic, and the objects you hold actually collide with everything else, unlike most VR games. Movement is done by physically moving in your play space or by gripping and pulling yourself along. You can also pull yourself higher and lower, which you need to do because some puzzles are high up. You use different tools, like a grabber, clone tool, & vaccuum. You have the ability to freeze blocks too. The tutorial could have explained freezing better. It took me a little while to figure it out. I definitely recommend this game to anyone that likes these types of games or puzzles.
Edit: 5 hours in, I'm at puzzle 48 of 60. They've gotten harder, but some are occasionally too easy. The game gives you an overabundance of pieces to work with. Maybe, it could have difficulty levels with harder modes giving you fewer.
Edit 2: It took me about 7.5 hours to beat it. There are 61 puzzles.

What secrets will be uncovered as we progress thru the Puzzles?
The interactions with the items, and the feedback to the player (visual & audio), alongside the excellent soundtrack, create a calming atmosphere and a pleasing world to play in. There are many different gadgets to work with, to combine in all sorts of ways, to make an interesting machine, that can be art or cause destruction.
It is nice that there are some examples to Load, it helps to get the creative juices flowing, or use em as a good starting point to test ideas and build off of.
Definitely recommend Gadgeteer, the creative in you will be happy you picked this up!
If you like chain reaction stuff, then you'll love this game. I love Rube Goldberg machines and this game allows you to create contraptions without the hassle of real life.
The tutorial is short and simple, showing how easy it is to get started. The controls aren't complicated, with one hand allowing the placements/control of objects, while the other holds your toolbox and undo/start button. It uses a drag and move mechanic to move around the world.
For puzzle mode, you start out with simple easy puzzles that have predefined block placements. As you gradually progress, it grows longer and allows more open ended solution for you to figure out. Along the way new blocks/objects are introduced.
As of writing, I have reached up to level 20 in about 30 minutes, progressing for dominos to using balls.
As for sandbox, I haven't spent too much time on this mode but as the name implies, you have full control of all types of blocks and room space. The creativity can be seen in the screenshots/trailers which shows how extreme you could make your machine.
Some things I would like to see for the future:
- Online browser to share creations - Absolutely essential
- Co-op building
[*]More items - While I shouldn't complain about the current toolbox, It would be awesome to see more objects to use.
This is one of the best examples of interactions in VR, everything feels like it is supposed to and it's so intuitive. You basically create a domino machine with lots of little parts and pieces to hit a target or move a ball to a target spot, it sounds simple but there's endless ways to solve the puzzles and once you're done you can just create even cooler machines in sandbox mode. Feels great, looks great, love it! Beyond the puzzles there's also a hint of a story and a cool world beyond the house you are in.
