Unplayable, It's very slow. I'm feeling sad for one of my favorite game when I was young. But I don't to buy garbage.
My system:
I5 14400
RAM 32GB
Integrated GPU HD730
Mega Man X is one of my favorites. In particular, this Legacy 1 collection features the best of what MMX offers. My imagination was captured with its premise, music, and artwork. I still sing along when I hit my flow state running X1, X2, and X4. This collection made me think, feel, and make my own decisions - super robot style!
reeeeeee
X is my favorite character in Mega Man X games.
MEGAMAN X3 MY BELOVED RAHHHHHHH
Since this is a collection of emulated games with a bit extra I will separate the review in three parts
Part 1, the emulation:
The emulation is dogshit, It does the bare minimum, there is no rewind, no savestates, no tech improvements, and some people complain about input lag.
Not having save states is a pain in the ass in the first two games, since the password system sucks.
Part 2, the games:
- X1: this one is great, the stages, the bosses, the music, everything is great, my only complain is the password system that doesn't save your Hadouken or which Sigma stage you are in, so don't close the game, or you will lose a bunch of progress.
- X2: this one is good, not as good as the first, the bosses are not as memorable and you only get the shoryuken in the last stage, so It is basically useless
- X3: this one sucks, really annyong level design and the bosses do too much damage, without the upgrades you are fucked. This is the first game where you can play as Zero, but It is not that clear, I only learned about It in the last stage
- X4: this one is a masterpiece, playing as Zero is amazing, the way he moves and attacks is perfect. X is also fun to play, his movement is really smooth. This is by far the easiest X game, which is not a bad thing.
Part 3, Challenge mode
This is a gauntlet of boss fights, but you fight two bosses at the time.
It is a chaotic/interesting mode, but nothing to write home about
tl;dr Get this collection if you like old school platform games, and want to play It just like they were originally, no save states or anything.
Mega Man X Legacy Collection
There is definitely some input lag as others have said but overall this is a solid package. The input lag is pretty rough in X1 but X2 and beyond it's much more bearable. All the little extras and goodies make it worth the $20 buckeroos in my humble opinion.
best mega man x games, i grew up with SNES.

If you want to play Mega Man X 1-3 like they did on the SNES, you can buy this collection and play them, or you can spend over two thousand dollars on a television, console, and the games. Over half the overall cost will be in Mega Man X3 alone. So the option to play an incredibly rare game hassle-free is tempting, but are they good? Yes. Even in an era replete with wonderfully well made sidescrolling action games, the Mega Man X trilogy on the SNES were proper standouts. Highlight releases for each of their years with excellent design in levels, enemies, art, and boss battles that could vary between a solid challenge to frustratingly difficult with some of the best soundtracks of their era. If you're nostalgic for early 90s gaming, or just curious what the fuss was all about, it's a very good place to dip your toes.
Mega Man X4 is also here, and reproduced faithfully, but I don't care about it, really.
Nostalgia for the OG four MMX titles.
It's Megaman X. It runs fine. The games are worth revisiting now and then, perhaps?
best
fun
A fantastic, high octane offshoot of the Megaman formula. X1 is a great start to the series. While it is a little rough around the edges, but it laid a strong foundation for future X titles. X2 and X3 are basically X1 with more additions, but X4 is it's own beast. X4 is genuinely one of the finest gaming experiences I've ever had, and I don't say that lightly. Buy this just to play X4, you will not be disappointed
They did a great job in with this collection. I don't play the double boss mode thing much, but it seems pretty cool. I mainly play through the main games from time to time and I love achievements. The first four titles in this series have always been my favorites, so it's awesome to have them all in one package. Definitely recommended for any Mega Man X fan or anyone who wants to know why guys in their mid forties like me still talk about their love of the Mega Man franchise.
Bospider
Total Mega Victory
Worth it for X1 and X4 alone.
The first game doesn't even load. i guess i should've checked within the 2 week window. i've just wasted my money
As a newcomer to the series, the skill curve is astronomically high, but still satisfying. I'm a certified MMX fan now.
In general, all four of these games are fantastic and should be experienced by anyone who is looking for: a) challenge b) engaging platforming and action c) exploration d) awesome video game music. The Rookie Hunter Mode also helps out a lot if you are struggling and want to get the hang of things for repeat playthroughs. I do have individual grievances with some of the games, but overall these games have shot up in my all-time favorites. I might ramble so the TLDR is they're great and you should definitely play them all at least once.
X1 - Easily the best and my favorite. Controls are fluid, stages and bosses are engaging, challenge is high but fair and I never felt like I wasted a single minute. The ability to choose which stages to prioritize was awesome, and I really liked being able to nab the upgrades at my leisure with little to no back tracking. My only hiccup was in the Sigma stages, but even then I beat it after trial and error (except for the wolf. Screw that thing lol).
X2 - Not as good as the first but definitely my second favorite of the collection. The backtracking in this game is worse than the first, but it's not egregious. I actually think the Armor Upgrades were better than the first game's, with the Double X-Buster and the Screen Wipe Chest piece being the standouts. Air dodging was also VERY appreciated. My main gripe with this game is the X-Hunters, particularly when trying to get the Zero pieces. Finding and fighting them is more of a hassle than anything else, no surprise that people just gloss over them and get the bad ending. I ended up triggering multiple Game Overs intentionally so that I could take all the X-Hunters out in one stage without beating it, much easier that way. Overall though, this game is very satisfying and nice sequel story-wise.
X3 - It starts off extremely strong with the opening stage and promise of playing as Zero, and the bosses look even better than the previous games! And then you run face-first into the biggest difficulty curve thus far, and it's not even the game's fault really, but it is the designer's. Individually, these stages and bosses are fine, fun even, but getting all the upgrades in this one becomes tedious. If you go in blind, you'll have to return to certain stages multiple times just to get everything (looking at you Tunnel Rhino!), or forgo certain things. I didn't get to use the rider armor until the end of the game because I decided to do Blast Hornet last, which is a little ridiculous and forced me to go back into stages to get the rider-necessary upgrades. Not to mention, the bosses are incredibly imbalanced with some being cakewalks and others being the bane of my existence. To the game's credit, the challenge and item hunting is probably its biggest appeal, which is why a lot of people love it, but if that's not your thing, Rookie Hunter Mode is right there. Regardless, still had a blast once I adjusted, even if it's my least favorite. And I do think of all the games, X3's ending with Zero and soundtrack are my favorites of the entire collection.
Oh, and Zero is playable in X3 if you select him in the pause menu, but his implementation is not good. Starts off really great and his abilities are slightly better than X's at the start, but he quickly becomes irrelevant once you have enough abilities and upgrades. His only purpose later on his killing him for the Beam Sword upgrade to make the final bosses significantly easier, or if you want a nicer ending. Still a fun addition though, in case you want to try and play through some of the game as him.
X4 - The quality jump is evident here, and that's not just because of the change in systems. Two characters, two paths with unique stories and abilities, and an absolutely god-tier soundtrack that the PS1 engine can manage. I adored this game when I first started it and right up to the end. Making Zero and X play differently from one another was a genius move, and makes it feel like a completely different game depending on which route you choose. I also think these abilities are the best of the four games, especially Zero's but X has some fantastic weapons too. And although the stages are the longest in the collection, I never felt like I was tired of them (due in part to the great checkpoint system). So it should be my favorite, right?
The story of the game is ultimately it's greatest downfall. Both X and Zero have unique characters and story beats, but lets be real, this was Zero's game, and that's not a good thing. X's story is so undercooked that I actually audibly asked "Wait, that's it?" at the end of it. He has no real stakes in the story other than 'go stop the bad guys,' which doesn't work in a story about what it means to be maverick and whether or not the Repliforce is right. Zero gets it better because of his interactions with certain characters and plentiful cutscenes (which X lacks btw), but even then it all feels rushed. And neither character appears throughout the opposite's campaign even though they're on the same team?? Sorry, Zero shows up at the end of X's path in one of his few cutscenes, I guess. However, if you're willing to turn your brain off and play it for what it is, you can understand why some people feel X4 is the best in the entire series.
I've only heard mixed to horrific things about X5-8, so I'll probably be waiting for a BIG sale on the second collection. But definitely pick up this one if you're looking to get into these games
old times
Ripoff compared to the Anniversary and X Collection on PS2/Xbox. Doesn't even include the arcade Mega Man titles.
Megaman X is the best.
WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!
stream deck works just fine! and nice!
As of recently, the game has stopped working.
It opens a blank window then closes.
Running admin on Steam and Game doesn't work.
Not bothering with the Anti-Virus exception because it worked before.
MMX Collection 2 has also stopped working for whatever reason.
MM Collection 2 works fine.
Specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (8-Core Processor, 3.60 GHz)
GPU: RTX 2070
RAM: 32GB
Windows 11 (Might have something to do with this because last I played was probably on Win10 )
x2 underrated
it is the best megaman experience, beautiful graphics, tight control, hardcore difficulties, and above all it is an interesting experience.
the formula has become redundant along the years, these days everyone can make megaman like platformer in 8 bit or 16 bit graphics. Among the competition in times, the original is still a very well designed and investing journey where outshines many followers to date.
(dont bother with X5-8, or original 1-10, though)
Amazing games
X4 is my top pick
X3 was the weakest one imo
Also you should beat X Challenge on Normal for the image (trust me guys)
It's peak.
but don't get x collection 2
This collection covers the first half of the mainline Mega Man X series, which is widely considered the best part. Mega Man X1 through X4 may not rank as my absolute favorites in the entire Mega Man franchise, but they’re all consistently fun.
The collection includes Rookie Hunter mode (basically easy mode), which is a great way for beginners to ease into the series without things getting too punishing, especially with how much damage enemies can deal. Being able to toggle this mode on or off is a nice touch, especially if you’ve already played these games on their normal difficulty and just want a more laid-back replay.
X1 is generally the fan favorite. While it’s not my personal number one, I’ll admit that in terms of its soundtrack, it’s probably the best overall.
X2 is fun, though the RNG-based, time-sensitive requirements to get the true ending can be annoying. It feels like a slightly less polished version of X1, but still worth playing.
X3 is a bit weird. Some parts are unnecessarily harder than they need to be, and the levels feel longer than X1 or X2. That said, it does have some cool weapons to mess around with, which keeps it interesting.
X4 introduces Zero as a fully playable character, and that alone makes it my favorite game in this collection. The usual Mega Man formula is great, but Zero fulfills my dream of a lightsaber-based 2D platformer. Adding boss power-ups tied to his saber abilities is awesome and makes replaying X4 with Zero so much fun. Plus, the infamous "What am I fighting for?!" meme from Zero’s voice acting is unforgettable.
Overall, the first half of the Mega Man X Legacy Collection is regarded as the best for a reason. While the series has its ups and downs, X1 through X4 are all strong entries and well worth playing.
X1-X3 are emulated pretty well, and X4 plays amazingly.
X1 is a pretty good game, I think it's one of the best games to start mega man with, it encourages exploration and serves as a good base for the next games
X2 is also pretty good, but the music is a bit of a letdown.
X3 is alright, it's really bland in almost everything, X takes too much damage, the bosses are too easy, the armor is the least useful, some weapons are meh and the weakest game in this collection.
X4 is the best here, level design is fair difficulty, bosses are fun, music is great but the english dub is laughably bad and sadly the japanese intro theme is replaced
One of my biggest complains tho is that the button mapping doesn't save, and that goes for XLC2 too, so it can get a little annoying having to remap everything over and over again.
Still, pretty great games to play through.
Loved playing over winter break + amazing soundtrack
AUUGHHH NO THIS ISN'T HAPPENING, THERE IS NO REASON FOR ME TO GO ON, what- WHAT AM I FIGHTING FORRRRR!!!
X1 and X4 are some of my favorite games of all time. But X2 and X3 are also cool. God, play X4, the movement is insanely fun!!!
Pretty fun ngl
BEST GAME!
All these games are damn fun, expect 3, it's design is backwards as all hell.
X1, X2, and X4 are genuinely some of the best Capcom has ever produced IMO, short but replayable
I feel so sigma
so classic, it was made in to a legacy collection, what mare coudl you want
there's a really hot robot in this game highly recommend
oh yeah and the games are fun too i guess
Loved Mega Man X as a kid. Now its even better than it was then. Love having this in my collection
Still haven't fixed the input delay on the SNES games.
X4 works perfectly fine though?
Megman X 1-3 have no modern save system, so you are forced write down " Passwords " to save progress which is cumbersome. X4 does have a modern save feature, but lacks setting to Auto charge your X buster. Auto charging the X bust was a feature from the PS1 system when this game launched 28 years ago. The publisher of this title should be embarrassed that they dropped support for a critical feature that was available nearly three decades ago. The game is much harder to play / enjoy without this feature.
Update* The developers also dropped support for the ability to crouch in X4 which breaks the game. You can not progress past certain enemies without crouching, so the game becomes unplayable. Do not purchase this lazy cash grab.
Bad port, using others way to play old classic is much much much more better than this piece of shit.
childhood in a game
good game thanks
control rebinds don't save after closing, X4's FMVs all freeze a couple seconds in and don't resume (+ there's no subtitles...) and rookie hunter mode, the only assist feature available, is a total joke - it doesn't give any info about what it does in-game and as far as i can tell seems to only inconsistently reduce the amount of damage taken to a ridiculous amount where you basically take no damage in some titles. the ZX collection's checkpoints are SORELY missed here - i don't want all challenge removed from the combat, but like... at the same time, i don't have the patience to play through SNES-era life systems. anyway the only positive part of this collection (and presumably MMXLC2, though i'm yet to play it) is that it has all the games in one place, which is convenient since they're scattered across various platforms...
