in terms of gameplay its not really living up
not really a game more of a simulator
its fun and is a slice of silly pie
i am pretty sure it will bore and tire too soon than rather be later than liked

why does the mouse attack key keep getting jammed any one know how to fix this glitch?
i do not care about the graphics low budget just could have been a bigger more sound proof low budget wiget
download if you a bored and want 2 to 3 hours of novelty slash pie zombie based stupidity
if you are looking for a more realistic modern simulator then maybe this is not a good choice of purchase

i do have some positives
can be a time killer before it bores
funny that John looks like Zach Efron and all in all an R the zombie gaming parody
It's alright. Repetitive and mostly fetch quests but it can serve for a few minutes of fun from time to time.
well i love the game i just wish the people had allot of emotion on there. make it a bit gory like guts falling out or intestants coming out or half a head (like the walking dead) besides that though it was a great game ;)
When it first released, John The Zombie was a pretty neat game. The developers were responsive and friendly. The community was nice. But then they updated it, and it all went to hell. The developers? I don't think they're there along with it, but they've definitely bailed.
JTZ in its current state is riddled with bugs and in large sections barely playable. Falling through the map during the horse races is common...provided you can even start them in the first place. Some vehicles can no longer be driven. The campaign is a pain to finish due to frequent issues with invisible walls in one corner of the map. Fully expect to become stuck inside houses frequently while you're free-roaming.
Achievement hunters take note that although you can complete the achievements listed I would strongly suggest not bothering, were this game properly functional they'd come fairly quick but due to multiple CTDs it takes ages to earn a few of them thanks to repeatedly losing progress.
I would avoid anything published by Minimal Lab due to my experiences with this title, before JTZ was abandoned they released a second game on here under a different studio name and proceeded to temp ban from that hub anyone who called them out over it. There's something fishy here and it isn't the fish.
I appreciate this. We need more creative zombie games like this, Stubbs the Zombie and Dead Rising. It is really ROUGH though so only get it if you love this concept or are looking for a quick, trashy novelty to mess around in for a couple hours.
Don't waste your time nor money, it's simply not worth it. An unfinished game, plaged with bugs that make playing it a chore.
I wanted to like this, I really did.
But the bugs people are mentioning minor little things that can be amusing.
They are things such as the save menu vanishing, the HuD shifting left and half off screen as well as the attack command locking up.
Perhaps with some TLC but currently, it's unplayable.
So.. Despite the low price and campy theme.. The game.. Is really boring.
Maybe if you play music behind it.
It's like.. Something you're roleplaying in the 90s version of a chat.
I saw this game and hoped it would be a good replacement for Stubbs the Zombie, since at the time I had no idea it was being remade. This game, however, is legitimately NOT GOOD. Not only did the dev team not run a spell checker over their text (There are so many spelling and grammar errors it was frustrating to play) but they didn't think about how people would act. PEople just run back and forth on the same path until they give up and crouch. And if they don't do that, they run into the road and get hit by a car. This game was very disappointing to me. I'm very glad Stubbs the Zombie got a rerelease!
The game was pretty fun. The concept is interesting but unfortunately, it lacks so many features and i felt like it's an incomplete game. It needs more polished like add more NPC. The NPC are so lacking in fact. Also, the AI is stupid. There are some bugs that needs to be fixed.
Picked this game up in a sale. I like zombie games, and liked the idea of playing as a zombie. Reminded me of Stubbs the Zombie. Saw a lot of reviews mentioned a lot of bugs. Saw that the developer acknowledges the bugs, even jokes that some of them add to the fun of the game.
I'm glad I took the risk. I'm not having game breaking problems with bugs. The camera can be awkward at times, zooming up close and then away again, or fixing behind walls. And there are no options to invert the y-axis, which I personally prefer.
I haven't seen many people compare this to Postal 2. It reminds me of that game for several reasons. The open world feel, the sense of humour. The NPCs as well are a big part of the fun. You can watch them go about their lives until they see you, and then panic. NPCs that die don't vanish or leave persistent corpses. They come back to life. It seems all the ones I've killed are now wandering around as zombies. Nice touch.
If you like some senseless violence, zombies, eating peoples brains, and aren't put off by a fun game with some rough edges, I'd recommend it. Definitely worth a shot when it's on sale.
The concept is good, but the final product is not. The game is boring, there is not much to do and the map is confusing. I wasn't able to stand a full hour of this.
John, The Zombie is a lot of fun until the controls quit working and your controller gets stuck in vibration. Riding a bike has never been so terrible! It goes from side to side like John is falling over and can't ride up certain hills. The camera gets all jacked up when riding a horse. While riding the horse or the bike the wonky camera gave me a headache. Driving cars is a little better, but not by much. It's real easy to learn all the skills by eating peoples brains, it's probably the only fun part of the game. The "missions" are fetch quests, the story is lame and the controls totally suck! Buttons quit working on both the controller and m&k. At first it reminded me a little of Goat Simulator, but it's nothing like it. Goat Simulator is fun, has responsive controls and doesn't give me a headache. Not recommended
Fun game but needs to fix the following
• Camera going through walls and you can’t see John
• The cars NPC’s turn around back to the same street
• More NPC’s
• Lower Settings
• Some NPC’s look bigger
• A glitch when you pause the game while decoding the HUD comes back
• Smooth some of the terrain more
• Lower the Contrast
Overall fun game to mess around with and I recommend it but it’s just some bugs that needs to be fixed
Cheap Stubbs the Zombie mixed with Goat Simulator
John, The Zombie is a cheap but fun game about being a recently turned Zombie called John. You can play two modes, Story mode where you can start to find a cure for your zombification. Or Chaos Mode where you free roam and cause chaos by eating peoples brains and turning them into zombie allies who follow you around or unleash their own chaos. The map of the game is pretty big and has alot of cool environments. This game and it's mechanics are very much reminisent of Stubbs the Zombie: Rebel without a Pulse. But being that game was sadly removed from steam years ago. This isn't a bad substitute.
Pros:
- Nice graphics
- Large world
- Funny brain eating animations
- Skills in riding cars, riding horses, crafting, climbing, or even basketball
- Very cheap price
Cons:
- Glitchy as hell
- World popping issues especially if you're driving
- generic soundtrack
- You can't really do anything other than just eating peoples brains and climbing, only the zombies you make can attack
My Rating: 6/10
This game first reminded me of Stubbs the Zombie. I loved Stubbs the Zombie and seeing this, I wanted to grab this game. I picked it up, and I had more fun than I expected. It's got quite the comedic value to it as well. If you've played Stubbs the Zombie, you won't be disappointed. Even if you didn't play, grab this game still.
a relly good game
zombie survival games are so overused it good to see a sandbox style game where you play from the perspective of the undead i have no criticism for the game only something i hope will one day be in the game such as citizens you kill you can watch them resurrect as a undead zombie and attack other citizens and as the city starts to fall into chaos seeing some sort of malltry response such as soldiers in biohazard suits or something like that congrats to the developers grate work worth the money
Has Potential but still has a lot of things that needs to be fixed like the people running through walls, cars spin at random, and a lot of other bugs so sadly I can't recommend this game yet until the bugs are fixed but nice idea reminds me of Stubbs the zombie
This is a interesting concept. Playing patient zero and starting the end of the world. The core concept is great but it needs more to really make it great. Some of the zombie kill animations were very funny. More interaction like being able to fight would be nice and watching other zombies and townfolk fight would be another added touch. The skill system is fine (eating brains to learn new ablities) just need more of them. The only thing negative is the fetch missions are always across the map as far away as possible. Not a fun/great design choice unless the design was to pad the game. Still was very fun and recommend.

No, it's not a regular zombie game, in this game, you are the zombie and you learn how to do things, yeah exactly, you gain new abilities from brains that you just ate, and it was a pretty good catch actually. You have to eat them even if you are not willing to do it, but don't worry about that, it's for the best, it's for John and John's cat. I know you, like me, will have a lot of fun playing this game and will help John on it.

Definitely a great game to shut off your brain and eat others' brains instead.
I have only one gripe wherein the options menu is rather minimal, offering only graphics adjustments and no keybind or volume adjustments available.
