this game was supposed to be about a phobia but instead made me really scared and i didnt like the feeling of being scared

The bad things about this game so far.
3 years now, and still their old road map showed "customizable characters" since 2022, Its now 2025. Where is it?

The amount of times they have to remake maps and call it "Major update" for the 3rd? 4th? 5th? time now. Its ridiculous at this rate they can't get it right on the second or third time.

Lacking of new maps since the Lighthouse ever since. Map remakes and splitting sections don't count.
How about a haunted small movie theater? or a motel with one extra floor, making it 5 rooms on the ground floor and 5 on the 1st floor?

Terrible shop UI. It was bad before, but the new one is more worst to navigate around, and to buy anything or a buy all button with the total cost. Always have to set tier to the highest you unlock unless you make a preset every time, and sometimes host can't remove their default tier 1 tools set.

Ghost activity and events been almost the same for the past 4 years. Really stale and not scary.
Go watch more ghost theme movies. games, books, anything to give the game more spine chilling experience please.

Every ghost wearing the same big wooden clog shoes you'll always hear. No shambling limping walking sounds / No wet or muddy feet sounds / No prisoner chain-ball or shackle sounds, and you even have a prison map and miss adding that sound ! C'mon !

Ouija board & summoning ritual candles should be a tool and not a cursed item that randomly spawns.

So instead of hunting ghosts, i accidentally hunted a man and moved him in, Can't complain cos our nights consist of phas together.

If you're looking for a game to prove your bravery, Phasmophobia is not it. This game single-handedly turned me into a quivering mess, convinced that every creak in my own house is a vengeful spirit about to drag me to the Upside Down.

My typical ghost-hunting experience:

Load In: "Okay, we're professionals. We got this. We'll use the crucifix, smudge sticks, walkie-talkies... we're prepared!"
First Foot In The Door: Lights flicker, a distant growl "Nope. Nope, nope, nope. I'm just gonna stand here by the van. Someone else go in first."
Ghost Event: A loud, terrifying scream, a flickering shadow darts past "I'M IN THE VAN! I'M IN THE VAN! LEAVE ME ALONE! DON'T TOUCH ME! I HAVE A FAMILY!"
Mission Complete (or more often, Mission Failed, But At Least I'm Alive): My heart rate slowly returns to normal, only to spike again when my own cat walks past me.

Pros:

Genuinely terrifying. Like, 'sleep with the lights on' terrifying.
Fantastic atmosphere and sound design. Every whisper feels like a personal threat.
Great for playing with friends and hearing them scream like small children.
Teaches you valuable life lessons, like always having a clean pair of underwear on hand.

Cons:

I've learned more about ghost behavior than I ever wanted to know.
My friends now know the true extent of my cowardice.
My in-game sanity often drops faster than my will to live after a particularly nasty hunt.
I'm pretty sure I now have PTSD from the ghost's footsteps getting louder.

Overall: If you enjoy heart-stopping scares, questionable sanity, and the joy of watching your friends wet themselves, Phasmophobia is a must-buy. Just don't blame me when you start hearing things in the dark. You've been warned."

Game really fell off over the years. New interface and progression is pretty bad and the gameplay loop just got repetitive

devs have ruined the game and suck at coding, game breaks its own rules and is aimed for pros not friendly to new people. The game seems to get harder and harder and i get sick of the ghost spawning on top of me killing me not giving me a chance to run every single game, until the devs work on fixing this the games unplayable. I get it its not meant to be easy but COME ON as soon as you go in your hunted and killed, uninstalled for good. I want to love the game and it was better when i started but has gotten worse and worse, you have to be a sweat to play this.

here since the beginning. went from updating the game with new ghosts and gameplay, to only updating to make the party game harder cuz streamers who play this game for thousands of hours were too good. then they added stats tracking as if anyone cares, its not a competitive game. then they wiped everyones progress for their 'prestige' mechanic, where you get to grind the same ol grind, in the same ol maps, but with worse items just to get back to what you had before. oh boy arent you excited to prestige for an ID badge! jeez, at least give reskins of the tools or buy more unity asset characters to unlock. no one would have cared if the now millionaire dev just bought more ghost models. were all aware this was just a goofy slapped together asset game. and we loved it.

but then even more delayed updates to release a console version for an EARLY ACCESS unfinished game. now you get lame holiday events that are just "grind the same gameplay for an ID badge" and going to be recycled every year. the devs hate even the concept of mods, removing discussions and questions about it on their discord and subreddit. maybe because modders would have finished this game years ago.

oh. and today they announced horror 2.0 just reached concept phase! 5 years post release!! you know, the thing players have been begging for since the beginning. players also prefer NEW smaller maps, but devs would rather release reworks OR a single new map once a year. but hey, buy their merch for their unfinished game!

Maybe you will laugh at me but when I first played with this game I shitted myself sometimes XD. But after a few hours of playing this game wont be scary anymore. And after I had 50 hours in the game I didnt really want to play anymore because after that playtime it was boring! If you dont want to play thousands of hours with the game it can be good! 10/6.5

First of a kind for its game, but the slow updates despite massive sales and the inability to mod means there is almost no replayability once you know how the game works. Dev is strictly against modding of any kind and the servers are controlled by the devs instead of running P2P like it should be done. We bought the game, we own it.
This is literally a "players should get used to not owning their games" moment.

I have very much enjoyed this game. I have exclusively played this on Steam Deck. Mostly docked, but a decent amount of time in handheld as well. The performance has always been solid, visuals are good for what the game has to offer. Lots of fun, especially playing with someone. If the game starts to feel routine, just up the difficulty, and it brings back the intensity.

I used to love Phasmophobia back when it first came out. It was simple, spooky, and easy to get into with friends. Navigating the menus, buying equipment, and setting up your loadout was all super straightforward, which made jumping into a game quick and enjoyable.

But over the years, the game has changed a lot and not always for the better. Now, everything feels overly complicated. Just buying gear or managing your loadout is way more tedious than it needs to be. The new interface is clunky, and it takes away from what made the game fun in the first place.

Worse, the gameplay has become predictable. Once you've played enough, you basically just check off a list of ghost behaviors and boom you know what you're dealing with. There's no real tension anymore, just grind.

In contrast, games like Demonologist have stepped up big time. It has a clean, easy-to-use loadout system, genuinely unpredictable ghosts, good jump scares, customizable characters, and maps that actually feel lived-in and thoughtfully designed. It’s refreshing to play a game where the developers clearly listen to their community and put real effort into atmosphere and variety.

I spent a lot of time on Phasmophobia, but it’s uninstalled now. The fun's been replaced with grind, confusion, and repetition. It's disappointing to see a game that started off so strong lose its way.

Genuinely fun game, but the imbalanced progression ruins the incentive to participate, and simultaneously rips the fun part out of the game for the sake of that progression. Could be a 8/10 in the first 10 times you play, but it freefalls to a 5/10 when the reality of progressing sets in.

So, in order to progress you have to guess ghosts correctly, which incentivizes learning each ghost's behavior. The problem is that my objective is to get the cool looking effective gear which is a devastatingly slow process where I gotta correctly ID hundreds of ghosts in repeated environments with minor generated differences. So, its a paradoxical issue, the game gets easier with the cool gear, but to get to that point, you have to become an Ace ghost detective or be the most determined failure on the earth, disincentivizing progressing at all.

You need to be hitting that 'ace ghost detective' level at the same time you are getting these cool gear rewards as an incentive to keep going, but by all rights that doesn’t happen nearly as fast as it should. The game feels like its trying to be a live service, but it just doesn’t feel good enough for the live service stuff to work.

This is an amazing game, the only thing i think would make it perfect is the option when we create a room to choose what we are doing, example EVENT for those who only care about making point to the event or unlocking the ID card, CASUAL GAME for those who just want to play for fun and not into a difficulty level, MERCILESS for those who like to do the X10 games because they have the experience or they just doing it for the money, SOCIAL which is the one for just talk and create new friends more like for kids who like to talk a lot and do whatever.
Because if you get to play with the PROS and if you don't play like them they kick you out because they're playing competitive, and you have to go in to the group to see what they going for and then leave or ass soon you go in if you aren't the level they want they kick you out because you aren't what they looking for. is more intense finding a group than the game itself. that's why i wont play anymore.

I’ve spent a lot of hours in Phasmophobia, and it still manages to keep me on edge. The updates over time have made the game even better—smarter ghosts, scarier hunts, and great variety. Even as a longtime player, it never feels repetitive. If you enjoy co-op horror, this game is a must.

I am not a horror fan, and the game does terrify me, but I love the figure-it-out and hang out with your friends aspects enough to be addicted. Each ghost type has a particular vibe, and each can have overactive or almost not even there personalities to them. Each round feels different, even if you spam the same map. Very fun!

This game is fun, and the first of its kind lets be honest. Only one other game could compare but saying it here would not be fair. This game is delightful, keeping up with the holidays with new events and i can't wait for customizeable characters!

The gameplay loop?
Enter a house, repeat the same three interactions, guess wildly, leave.
Rinse, repeat, fall asleep.
What should have been a chilling, psychological horror experience quickly devolves into a janky scavenger hunt, where 90% of the "terror" comes from tripping over your own teammates and broken collision physics.

The ghosts themselves?
Once you’ve seen them pop out of the floorboards or moonwalk through a door for the fiftieth time, the magic is gone. They aren’t scary — they’re poorly scripted NPCs with the IQ of a toaster, chasing players who spend more time arguing over who forgot the flashlight than actually ghost hunting.

And speaking of the players...
Phasmophobia’s player base might be the loudest collection of amateur ghost hunters and self-appointed “pros” ever assembled.
Half the lobbies are filled with people who treat the game like a roleplay improv session, shrieking into their microphones like it’s a middle school sleepover gone wrong.
The other half?
Dead serious wannabe ghostbusters who think memorizing evidence charts makes them tactical masterminds.
You either get ear-piercing screams over every creaking door or lectures about "optimal EMF reading placement" from someone who still thinks pressing crouch makes them immune to ghosts.

Instead of a creepy, tense experience, Phasmophobia has become a loud, chaotic kindergarten field trip with flashlights, dressed up like horror.

Final Verdict:
Phasmophobia is a shallow, repetitive ghost hunt simulator barely held together by duct tape — endlessly hyped by players who confuse screaming into a headset with actual fun.
If you're looking for real horror, look elsewhere — the only terrifying thing here is how low the bar has dropped.

Phasmophobia is the only game where I can proudly say I died in a haunted house because my best friend screamed “IT’S A REVENANT” and ran out the front door—leaving me alone in the dark with a demon who had beef with my flashlight batteries.

This game turns you into the most underpaid, overconfident ghost hunter in history. You get a thermometer, a spirit box, and a flashlight with the power of a dying candle. Then it’s off to the most cursed real estate listings in the country with your three bravest (or dumbest) friends.

Every match goes like this:

Walk in like you're on Ghost Adventures.

Hear a creak. Panic.

Yell at your friend to stop breathing so loud.

Watch someone get possessed while you hide in a closet whispering, "Nope nope nope."

The ghosts? They don’t play fair. They flicker the lights, whisper your name like a clingy ex, and occasionally just exist too hard and make everyone cry. The jump scares? Chef’s kiss. My soul leaves my body regularly. I should be getting frequent flyer miles to the afterlife.

Still, every time we barely make it out alive, we immediately load into the next house like, “Okay but this time we’ll be professional.” Spoiler: We won’t.

Final Verdict: 5/5 – Would scream and abandon my teammates again.

Quite a fun and silly group game to play with friends. Easy to learn but hard to master I'd say. Main gameplay loop is simple enough but somehow gives out hours of fun. Probably due to playing different maps and enough minor RNG.

UI is clunky and doesn't always respond correctly to inputs but it serves its basic function. Death animation loses its charm after a few deaths. Makes the actual scenario where the ghost catches you lose all its initial horror. Tutorial is also very... primitive. Those are really my only nitpicks about the game.

Overall I'd recommend this for a few sessions per day with a friend or two. Nice timekiller.

If you buy this game, don't expect to see much more than you do now. The devs are basically the most lazy devs in Steam. The game itself is ok and fun at first. But it will get old after a while with the same wash, rinse, repeat thing going on. There are three holiday events and they are all the same, year after year. They just tweak it a bit and it is the same thing from the previous year.
What you will do is go in, use your equipment to fund out where the ghost is and what kind it is. Hunt for a bone and there is a cursed item you can use. Some help, some don't. And that is pretty much it.
Now this game could take off if they ever open it up to modding. That would mean more content and new maps. The last map they made is a waste of time. It is a light house and you spend far more time just climbing stairs than ghost hunting.,
They are changing a few maps, making them look a bit better, however, no new maps, no new equipment, no new ghosts, no NOTHING.
Their discord page however is a toxic waste land. Point out that you would like to see more out of the game and get insulted by the lumps there. If you fire back at them, obviously pals of the devs, you get banned.
I am giving it a thumbs down for one reason, the lazy devs who are so in love with themselves that they won't allow the community to add to the game. The community would probably make far better stuff for the game than the devs. Noticing their obvious lack of interest in their own product.
The gaming community is your typical bunch. You have a few good people that play the game and have fun with it. Then you have the toxic crowd that will just screw you over by trying to get you killed. And naturally, you have the cheaters that couldn't play a game if their lives depended on it. Yea, they suck.
Well, good luck if you buy this. You might like it at first, but it gets old fast. $20 USD isn't too bad for the game however.

The co-op experience is amazing!
I usually play with my boyfriend, and every session feels like a heart-pounding ghost-hunting adventure.
The tension builds slowly, I get nervous after being in the house too long without knowing how high my sanity still is.
Then suddenly the ghost slams the door shut and the real panic kicks in... It’s terrifying in the best way.

What makes it so intense is that every hunt feels different.
There’s a huge variety of ghost types, and figuring out which one you’re dealing with is like solving a really spooky puzzle, except the puzzle might kill you if you take too long.
We’ve had hunts where everything went smooth, others end in chaos, and that unpredictability keeps it exciting.
We’ve gotten better at identifying ghosts over time, but the fear never really goes away especially when one of us gets left alone in a haunted room.

That said, sometimes finding evidence can feel a little slow, especially on the bigger maps where it takes a while just to find the ghost’s room. We’ve also had moments where a DOTS ghost appeared once and then never again, which made it frustrating to confirm.

Even after many hours of playing, Phasmophobia still manages to surprise me. The atmosphere, the sound design, and the way ghosts interact with you, it all feels so intense, unique and immersive. And the fact that we’re actually using our voices to talk to the ghosts? Terrifying. But so cool.

If you’re looking for a co-op game that’s actually scary, with real stakes and tons of replayability, Phasmophobia delivers. Every hunt is a rush, and I can’t wait to see what terrifying updates come next.

This game used to be funny, but the devs misread what made the game fun and now it's just a buggy mess that tries to be a serious game, voicechat hasn't worked for me and my friends for 2 years and the updates/events are mediocre at best.

I will throw hands if I get jumped by another Demon the second I enter the house, and Shades are literally the Chudjak.

Besides that, absolute peak. My favourite of the co-op investigation style games like Content Warning, R.E.P.O. or Lethal Company. Deserves so much more attention than it gets.

Give us more player models though, or customisation, I beg.

I was recently recommended this game by my buddies at work and we played for three hours straight as a team. This game can be terrifying, addictive and fun. Once you start playing you will never want to stop. The atmosphere constantly keeps you on your toes and you never truly know what you're dealing with until the lights start flickering and that's when you know things are about to go down. At the time of writing this there are about 24 real world ghosts with different personalities and traits to give off the illusion that someone actually used to live during that point and time. I also appreciate the attention to detail given to all of the ghost hunting equipment and makes it seem like you're actually apart of one of those ghost hunting TV shows you used to see as a kid back in the day. The threats are constantly unknown, and you will feel the tension in the air, once you fully get used to the horror atmosphere. It becomes addictive, and you will want to spend time earning more equipment as time goes on. My only complaints would be the ghosts constantly looking like Unity Assets when they spawn in during hunts and most of the player death animations are reused for all ghosts. I want to see a little more variety towards death animations and ghost models to an extent so it actually looks like they've arrived from the darkest pits of the unknown. The ghost models do kinda remind me of the Ghosts from Silent Hill 4 except these ones don't float towards you. But rather run towards you like a flickering zombie which I think looks kinda silly. Other than that, I believe this game has potential to be something more and it really shows. This earns a 10/10 rating and the $20 price tag is worth every penny. If you haven't tried this game before, go ahead and give it a try!

Was really fun to play with friends when the game first popped up. HOWEVER after having sold millions none of that sales income is translated into game. No meaningful updates that improve the stale core game play loop have been implemented. Honestly currently the game feels like a unity store asset flip grift which is why I can't really recommend the game in the long term. If you want a similar game that actually moves forward and keeps adding content, try Forewarned.

Incredible game. The progression is always keeping you on your toes, letting you unlock new items and badges. You could be the best in the world and still have things to accomplish. It's really one of the only good ghost-hunting games left these days, and oh my GOD is it good. Absolutely worth the money. If someone is scared of horror games this is the way to start. It brings you in, but the jump scares aren't that bad, and over time you get used to it. 10/10. Get it. Please.

Really fun and scary game to play with friends, sadly over time you will get accustomed to the ghost behavior and desensitized to horror and it will become a trivial task unless you challenge yourself with self imposed rules.

The first year or so of this game was utterly unbelievable in both enjoyment and accessibility, although I feel that has fallen to the wayside unless you enjoy heavy RP and an excessive amount of trial and error in identifying the now almost 25 types of spirits in the game. Not saying it's bad now, just that my friends and I couldn't come back to this and play casually after a certain point.

Its pretty goofy and funny with friends but its also scary when you play alone, its a good time either way tho

Disconnected Client Timeout literally every game for 3 years from different devices: laptop, PC, xbox, VR. Changing your internet provider doesn't change anything. The developers are showing absolute disrespect for players by not fixing this issue for years. Shame. Very disappointing.
