The game has been abandoned by the developer for several years now. Currently it's just a demo with a bunch of bugs. Sorry, but I can't recommend it, the game had a lot of potential, but alas.....
_______________
Игра заброшена разработчиком уже как несколько лет, сейчас это просто демка с кучей багов. Жаль, но я не могу это рекомендовать, у игры был большой потенциал, но увы.....
kinda weird game to be honest. even though I chose english it mixes sentences with russian. as a non-russian speaker this fact makes the game pretty hard to play because you dont get all the dialogues (meaning you cant do the right choices which is pretty much the main goal of the game) i hope this gets fixed soon so i can actually finish the game :/
This is a short, atmospheric rpg that is mostly text based. It is dark fantasy, as far as I can see without the fantasy. That said I enjoyed it. It is a bit of a psychological thrill ride and extremly gritty, which is pretty much as advertised. Really all I would change is how long it is-at $9.99 I think you actually do get your money worth, though it seemed like the game was just starting when it ended. I'm not sure of the state of the creator or company that made this game, but I think they really need to add on to it with a sequel or second chapter or something. Regardless, I hope the creators keep doing high caliber work of this sort. In conclusion, if your looking for a macabe, merry romp through the axe slice of an executioner's life this is the game for you-enjoy!
Somehow the game is legitimately terrifying, could do with more visuals/animations and the translations mess up but very rarely. If you take the time to read and pay attention the game can really immerse you into it's world, it's a trip.
the handful of bugs (including having to switch to russian and back to english on EVERY RELOAD) aren't enough to pull down the awesome writing quality.
if only the next chapters were a thing...
This could have been an interesting game. I actually looked forward to playing it for some time, and the first impression was good -- but then it sorta stumbled and never recovered.
Game is plagued by bugs, from disappearing saves to being stuck on the map. Some of the options are unclear and not explained -- eg, I did not find a way to use half the powerups I've bought.
And the worst of all, the promise of an expansive plot is cut short when you suddenly see the credits after a few in-game days.
Overall, would not recommend at all, unless you like being disappointed.
The content that is currently there is very good, the story and characters are great. However, the game isn't finished. It ends abrubtly after finishing the first chapter and I can't find any news if there is any more content coming anytime soon.
The idea is very interesting. My biggest problem is that I haven't been able to save and quit the game. I played from the start a few times but in this day and age you should be allowed to save at some point, especially in what's basically a visual novel.
5/10 It´s more of a story than a game. The story itself isn´t bad but the game is very short and you will spend most of your time reading it like a book. There are lots of bugs, e.g. you have to set up russian language and then switch back to english again or you will end up with a weird mix of russian/english. There are also many bugs that cause crashes, which is bad because you cannot save and if it happens at the end of the day you will have to pass all the dice rolls of that day again.
In my opinion, this is an unfinished game that needs bug fixing and much more content. They shouldn´t ask for money for this and finish the game first. I resolved 3 or 4 tortures and the game ended. Maybe get it on a sale or wait until they finish this.
***Turns out it doesn't eat your saves. You just have to start an entirely new game and then load from within that new game to access your old games save files.
As much as I hate to leave the game a negative review as it has some great descriptive language with a brutally gritty and somber atmosphere, in the end I can't leave a positive review of a game that has ***eaten my saves twice now, has had a habit of double posting text, has some pretty glaring English grammar/typo problems, and finally there is also the case of the game producing screens with no text resulting in a forced reload(which requires you to start a new game sometimes)
If the bugs were ironed out I would happily give the game a thumbs up as a pretty eye opening and disturbing look into a very taboo job from a previous era in history.
This game is difficult to recommend. The visuals are great, sound and voice acting good, and the overall concept is unique and grim. However, the game has some fatal flaws that stop me from finishing or recommending it.
First, the game prevents you from manually saving and forces you to wait till a 'scene' ends. It will *force* you, as in you are unable to leave the game, which can take up to 30 mins for a scene to come to an end. If you force an exit than all your progress is lost and you must start over (i've tortured the same guy like 10 times). For a game heavy on text this flaw is a deal breaker for me. It discourages you from experimenting as a bad decision cannot be reversed unless you want to go back and repeat the last 30 minutes.
Second, while well-written the game has occasional grammatical errors and even straight up code slipping into the text. Some of the text will be in Russian and then you click on the button and it turns into English. Before this discovery I spent 5 minutes just staring at the opening screen with no clue what to do next.
Overall, the story and concept is great. You torture people (innocent or not), encounter some moral choices, and must keep yourself sane. But, the technical execution sadly fell short on a game full of story and life that many others would be envious for.
TLDR:
Pros; Great story both historical and philosophical
High replay value
Thought out choices and consequences
Cons; No save/load system making replay and roleplay annoying
One mistake/ bad RNG causes too much damage to repair a play through
Not all translation to English appear
Excellent story telling but requires quality of life improvements such as a save/load option otherwise the game results in you exiting out of the game completely and having to accomplish a day from the beginning because of a small miscalculation, though from an artistic point of view that makes sense forcing you to live with the consequences of your actions from a RPG point of view it’s just annoying. The game has a lot of replay value depending on how you combine items and what choices you make early on but the RNG and the before mentioned problem of the lack of a save/load option makes different play throughs time consuming. The choices also do come back to haunt you I can genuinely say that I never felt the consequences weren’t there or that it was just a trick. I look forward to the next chapter with anticipation.
[NEW: EDITED] As by my mistake I didn't know having English and Russian at the same time is a bug, An is fixed by: [Simply go to Settings and change localisation to Russian and then back to English, Under options within the game]
[OLD] The main missions "Dairy" are in russian, everything else is in English just the missions are in russian so I haven't been able to proceed at all..? It's an interesting game I think dunno haven't been able to actually play it..
As a scholar working on medieval society I am very pleased with the concept and moral conundrums that this game presents.
It does need a better English translation. Already in the first few paragraphs there are obvious translation errors and odd word choices.
Maybe it is a good idea to have a team of volunteers go through the English text? I would be happy to do a couple of dozen of pages.
As many other people are saying. This is a no. I want it to be a yes, I really really do.
But ... I've encountered at least 17 or so screens with XML tags, and untranslated Russian in it.
Or my favorite page, that literally just says "NO TRANSLATION."
It's not early access. It's a full reason. I will be returning this.
This Is one of those moments where a "Wait" Option for recommendation would be great.
To put it simply, this game is unfinished, Much Much more so if you are playing in english, Russian It probably wouldn't
be TOO bad.
For starters a good portion of the text in the game when playing in english is either missing or in russian, it took away from the great atmosphere and story this game has, and beyond that made certain choices impossible to comprehend making it feel terrible
when an outcome was beyond my actions
Beyond that the interface is wonky at best, the battle system feels pretty good for what it is, but it's hard to understand and the
"raise the stakes" options seems to not do anything at all, but even in the text options glitches are aplenty and incredibly noticeable, the funny thing is the what I'm going to assume is the "report a bug" option suffers from this and I couldn't understand
what the russian was trying to tell me on how to submit a bug report, going into it fully is impossible, I had experiences with events clearly not leading to what they should, Experiences with events showing no or broken dialogue, and the thing that made me put down the game was a softlock via moving to the "old graveyard" and being able to select literally nothing, not even an option to go back or home.
There are more bugs than this, The torture section is riddled with small issues mostly lending themselves from the tutorial seemingly not ending properly, items not appearing when they should, and the ability to sell rope at the shop endlessly and with no downside.
So why give this game a positive review? Because when the game ""DID"" work right, It was one of the most intriguing and story rich, imaginative, and downright unique games I've ever played. All of the mechanics """"WHEN"""" they function properly add to this game being a great Thriller experience, a "horror" game that doesn't stoop to cheap tricks but also doesn't stoop to tropes either (Mainly from having such a unique Premise) And the sheer amount of content probably rivals The Most open ended RPG's out there, My only real complaint as far as the gameplay itself goes is that especially in a story related game where all of my choices are crucial, having a random luck generated outcome for battle takes a way a bit from the feeling of having my choices mean something, when even the most likely option for success ended up in failure.
This game has potential absolutely dripping from every crevice of it, However I'm going to be honest here, after looking through the game's news and reading up on it, I genuinely believe the developers simply didn't want their eager fans to have to wait any longer for their game and didn't want to delay it again, and they probably wanted to share their great creation with them too, However in my opinion they absolutely should of delayed it again, as this amazing game goes from a 9/10 to a 5/10 REAL quick
due to it's bugs. So If you are looking for reviews of this game, maybe not get it quite yet but keep a SHARP eye on it and wait for the devs to patch it, since when they do I absolutely will be coming back to this game, and I hope you do too as even when I can finish this game I probably will be filled with excitement for what Lesser Evil Games can do next.
3 hours into this game and am enjoying it! The story is engaging, and really makes you think about the consequences behind your decisions. The few bits of voice acting I've come across are decently done, and the gravity of the narration reminds me of Darkest Dungeon, which is a great thing to be reminded of.
My qualms are few. I've seen more than a couple instances where some or all of the text is not in my default language (english). So there were a few bits of exposition that I missed out on, which is important for a largely exposition-driven game. The combat system was not tutorialized at all, but that could have been due to me missing something, and I actually KIND of like having to figure it out on my own. My number one concern is that quite frequently there are typos and grammar issues that break immersion for me. I'll be really getting into the story, reading along in my head, fully immersed - which this game is REALLY GOOD AT - and then have to decipher bits of broken English. When the writing is good, it's really good - to be sure. The sheer detail of the social interactions, the atrocities you must commit as your profession, and the political intrigue... It is very compelling, and if it were a book, I'd call it a real "page-turner." I only wish some parts had been a bit more thoroughly edited.
This all being said, I can see myself playing through this a few times and enjoying each one. Definitely a lot of replayability, and I'm excited to see how each "path" plays out. Can't wait to keep making heads roll, thanks for the great content! :)
I dont review many games and as much as i want to give this game a good rating i cant, within the first 30 minutes of this game, randomly the text would change to different languages from english. This is a big thing because its a full text game apart from cutscences and even then the subtitles are all over the place. I really want to like this game but half the time i dont know whats going on because the languages changes. If they can fix this bug then id say try this game out, it has a really good idea and it is done really well in my opinion. From what i played of this game and keep in mind its not that much but this game is really dark, Not a lot of stuff gets to me but this game from the 30 minutes ive played it was hard doing one of the torturing scenes, im sure if you played this you know what im on about. This game is a good game but theres way too many small bugs that needs to be fixed.
The English translation for this game is absolutely abhorrent. It's painful to read; every scene has multiple spelling and grammar errors. I can say for certain that it was not translated by a fluent speaker. And while the game itself seems good, the childish and poorly articulated text (and there is a LOT of text you have to read in order to play the game properly) ruined the experience for me to the point that I couldn't keep playing it.
XML tags in tutorial dialogues, untranslated russian text in English version...
That would be acceptable in early access, but it's a full release. They really should hire some QAs. If they didn't bother to even proofread the tutorial , it doesn't leave a good first impression.
I may change the review if it gets fixed
The game I have been waiting for 2 years. participated in tests, and waited, waited, waited. A lot of things changed in it, it got better harder and I can’t believe that today it has already loaded and you can play it in its entirety. It is filled with difficult moral choices, difficult characters and opportunities to ask yourself questions that in real life will be scary to ask.
I look forward to a complete immersion in a dark, scary, mysterious world. buy play, and join discussions
