"There was a crooked man,
and he walked a crooked mile.
He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile.
He bought a crooked cat,
which caught a crooked mouse,
and they all lived together
in a little crooked house. "
This is the first title in the series known as The Strange Man, developed by Uri Games.
Experience the myriad horrors awaiting David as he moves into his new house.
In The Crooked Man, you play as David Hoover, who has recently moved to a new apartment during a rather rough time in his life. In the midst of him struggling to deal with his current situation, David starts to experience some odd occurrences in his apartment, and decides its best to ask a little about the former tenant.
However, he learns little.
Strangely compelled to learn more about this man, David sets off in search of him, hoping to find answers to his questions.
In commemoration of the game's Steam release, achievements, and multi-language localization have been added.

Such a strong intro to a great series! The story of this game is truly a gem and deals with complex issues such as identity, depression, and self-acceptance. I fell in love with the central characters of this game as their stories unfurled.
an achievement (rightfully) called me gay
One of the Best Stories told in an RPG Maker game! I was not expected myself to relate to certain parts of the game and the ending really gets you emotional.
I really like this game so far, it’s very unsettling at times and has the good decent but not hard puzzles of survival horror.
The only thing I think I dislike is that the game commits the cardinal sin of an adventure game in not letting you pick up objects before events in the game dictate that you need them. This is not a huge deal but it is one of my pet peeves with certain adventure games.
long, long time ago I remember watching PewDiePie's playthrough of this. long, long time later (now) I remember the game and try it out myself. short, yet quaint and iconic. 8/10
Phenomenal Game! I've always loved these throwback rpg horror games.
yes
This is genuinely a wonderful little game, and one of my favorite games overall. The story is wonderful and there are some interesting aspects of world building (that do get expanded on in the rest of the Strange Men series). The Crooked Man is a very nostalgic game for me, as it was what introduced me to this style of horror game years ago. I absolutely recommend it to anyone who enjoys horror.
That being said, there are also a couple of negatives that I feel people should be aware of. The "boss fights" are fairly basic and feel like they are more there for characterization than anything. The puzzles are also not really puzzles for the most part (it's just key gathering and remembering codes). And also, I feel like the 2nd playthrough exclusive content was a bit too thin to justify a second playthrough on your own, so if you aren't absolutely in love with the game then maybe just look up the little bit of 2nd playthrough stuff. Overall, still a solid 8/10 to me, although nostalgia and a love for the story makes it a 10/10 in my heart.
great little indie game, would recommend
soulless
man I’ve really liked The Strange Man series since I was a kid
good gaem
🥕
Eventhough I liked the game and enjoyed the story some battles were unnecessarily hard and took me FOREVER.
I also didn't really like some parts of the ending...but nevertheless it's a solid game.
A gem in the RPG maker games. Great horror and story.
Masterpiece 10/10
not only is this game fun and challenges your brain in the right way the story is just amazing and beautiful and it would be a shame if you dont give this game the chance it deserves
It's great, buy it.
wow, just wow. its not just the game play, not just the horror and mystery, the story and the characters, it all makes this beautiful and thrilling game like no t=other I've played. this one of those games where i wish i had the ability to wipe my memory of it just so i could experience it multiple times.
A classic masterpiece that still holds up very well today
the story and themes this game conveys hit hard man i think people should play this at least once in their lives
It's a bit weird getting used to using z/x/space/arrow keys but I adore this game! The story and characters are very enjoyable. This definitely stands tall as one of my most favorite horror games.
CLASSIC RPG Horror game. The story is honestly great, even though the gameplay is mid at times, but it has some decent puzzles. It's also quite creepy, so definitely worth a play.
crook erm hooked by this game
pretty neat little game for about 3$
I love this game and will always come back to it. Just like The Sandman and the other two the concept is real and very enticing. I love the art style too and I'm glad the achievements are quite easy to get. Man had me simping over him one minute and crying the next.
cozy game :)
Great story but the final battle is almost impossible to actually beat because the boss's movement speed is too fast. You have to have a literally perfect reaction speed to hit him without getting hit yourself. For a game that's supposed to be a narrative puzzle solver, this is really annoying to have to deal with. Most people would be better off just watching an old letsplay of the game than playing it themselves unless the dev suddenly decided to come back and rework the game a bit
the ending was the complete opposite of what it should have been.
but other than that, the game was great, one of the more entertaining rpg maker games to play - the lore was awesome and i will theorycraft about it until the day i die, the atmosphere was really well-made and the puzzles made me think more than once. it was genuinely really enjoyable to figure this out, and it kept me hooked; i binged the entire game in one go.
Super good game! I've been playing this game for a while now and decided to 100% it. Never fails to entertain.
Great game! Loved the settings and the writing (for the most part). Replaying it was almost as fun as playing it for the first time. Adding more interactions and variety for the inventory use would've been nice.
The instructions were vague at times, definitely had issues with completing the hospital episode, ended up wandering around the place for... quite a while. But the map was good, and I did enjoy looking into every nook and cranny, so it wasn't that big of a deal.
Depicted themes were handled with care, and the endings were definitely worth it if only for the dialogues/monologues we get by completing them. Would've appreciated if we learned more about Duke McGahan from the perspective of someone who wasn't him. After all, the story was revolving around personal bonds and filled with parallels to the brim.
At last, the chasing scene near the end was maddeningly difficult to get over with (to the point where I considered quitting), but that's on me... "Hit and run" is definitely a way to go about it, but I'm not really well-versed in that.
Definitely will play again in the future, if only to refresh my memories. The world-building endeared itself to me, and I'm looking forward to getting familiar with the rest of the series.
it's good, puzzles arent bash my head into a wall hard but they make you think enough to where i enjoyed it and it's pretty spooky
middle of the road 2 dimensional horror game. revisited this game for nostalgic purposes - similarly to misao. better than i remembered. intriguing story line for an indie game. objectives are sometimes difficult to comprehend without any sense of direction.
Very good ^^ the writing surprised me
Short but not sweet. Very creepy, very intriguing. Some parts were a little annoying with how unclear parts of the directions/prompts were, but in a way it added to the horror of them game - a kind of helplessness, I guess. I definitely enjoyed it.
Nice and charming pixel horror game!
There was a jumpscare in this game that made my soul leave my body. It watched over my shoulder as I shot the crooked man fifteen times in the face and nothing phased him. He just kept crip walking towards me and then I shot a child. Then my soul returned to my body just in time to make me punch my best friend in the face before he shot himself. Loved this game.
i like the little puzzles
i remember watching this when pewdiepie played it
crooked man's throat got me feeling some sort of way
the best rpg horror maker game period. one of the best games ever made imo definitely recommend
outdated, can see why it was popular in 2010 but nowadays give it a miss
