About the Game
Formerly known as Post Scriptum, Squad 44 is the most authentic WW2 first-person shooter, featuring 20 large-scale battlefields, upwards of 150 realistic WW2 weapons, and over 120 true-to-life vehicles. You must prioritize communication, coordination, and teamwork to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
Experience real WW2 campaigns, such as the liberation of the Netherlands and the Battle of Normandy. The war stretched across farms, villages, and cities, and whether you’re jumping out of a plane, arriving by sea, or storming the battlefield in a tank, you’ll need to group up with your squad before taking on the enemy.
Factions
Fight as historic WW2 factions like the British 1st Airborne Division, the US 4th Infantry Division, and the French Army to take on the German Wehrmacht, the Waffen SS, and Fallschirmjägers. Other factions include the Australian Army, the Greek Royal Hellenic Army, the New Zealand Military Forces, the British Army, and the Polish Airborne Forces.
Teamwork
In Squad 44, teamwork is paramount to achieving victory. Enroll as a commander and order gun runs or artillery to support your team. Join the frontline as one of the many infantry roles. Run logistics and shape the battlefield with fortifications and emplacements. And keep everyone on the battlefield updated with our in-game voice chat. Talk directly with your entire squad or use the local proximity chat to talk to players nearby and help the flow of battle.
Armored Combat
Be the scourge of the battlefield in one of the most feared monsters of WW2: the armored tank. Join a battalion with three other players and crew realistic steel beasts as the driver, gunner, or commander. Every vehicle in Squad 44 has been painstakingly created to represent the real tanks that roamed the battlefields of 1940s Europe. Each one features authentic functionality and armaments, meaning one thing: complete devastation to the enemy’s frontlines.
Tactical, Immersive, & Authentic
Experience the authentic reproduction of an incoming Stuka siren or artillery cannons firing from afar. The piercing sound of an incoming heavy round cutting through the air past you. The cracks of bullets and shrapnel. Squad 44 was designed with every little detail created with the utmost authenticity to the real-life weapons, vehicles, and battlefields used at the time. Don’t just play a game; experience the intense WW2 tactical military action of Squad 44.

Well if you are good at shooters this is the game for you if you are okei or bad DONT BUY ONLY IF YOU WANT TO LOSE YOUR SOUL.
the spirit of this game is unmatched. unfortunately it suffers from the exact same things that squad suffers from. lack of a current player base. clunky interface and player model interactions with the map. Controls are not refined. Player sensitivity is always off from what it should feel like.
Squad 44 is a great World War II shooter for players who love teamwork and realism. The battles feel intense and real, with historical weapons and big, detailed maps. Winning isn’t about running and shooting, it’s about mostly working with your team. The game can be hard to learn at first, and matchmaking isn’t perfect, but it’s worth the effort. The sounds, visuals, and gameplay make you feel like you’re really in a WWII battle. I need to warn you all this game gave me a literal PTSD...
Squad with WW2 assets. If you liked that you would probably like this. You would be in the minority though. Check steamchart play count before purchasing.
I come from Squad and Hell Let Loose.
The game is overall enjoyable, not sure if I'm going to commit to it as my main milsim though. It has a lot of work left to be done to resolve many bugs and animation errors, and sometimes unfair glitching animations, for example mounting a turret with your your body concealed underground somehow. Overall graphics are very nice, animations are ok.
It is much slower paced than HLL, but faster than Squad imo. I think for the size of the maps, Offworld should investigate larger player counts than the 100 we have now.
Give it a go, you may love it.
The Best Milsim Right Now!
Every match feels unique and unforgettable! Each accurate shot feels like a true achievement and a small victory. The most immersive and atmospheric simulator I’ve experienced.
Squad 44 vs. Other Top Games in the Milsim Genre
First off, I want to say that I genuinely enjoy all the games I’ll compare Squad 44 to below, but for me, Squad 44 is undoubtedly the best. That said, for casual fun with friends, I still consider HLL ideal.
Squad. Squad 44 shines because it places less emphasis on building and logistics. The focus here is on coordination, accuracy, and discipline.
Hell Let Loose. Squad 44 offers richer gameplay mechanics, realistic ballistics, and a greater attention to detail overall. In HLL, the lack of meaningful respawn penalties often leads to a devaluation of risk, turning matches into endless waves of infantry. The primary strategy becomes finding and destroying spawn points, which feels less rewarding.
Arma Reforger. Squad 44 doesn’t feel like a sandbox that requires tons of mods to enjoy. Everything works great "out of the box."
Other Features of Squad 44:
Graphics. While not overly detailed, the visuals are pleasing. The explosions, smoke, and fire effects are exceptional—exactly what you need in a game like this, directly enhancing gameplay and immersion.
Sound. Probably some of the best audio I’ve ever heard in a game. The explosions, the distinct sounds of weapons and vehicles—it all creates an incredible soundscape, far superior to anything I’ve experienced before.
Maps. The maps are diverse and engaging. While not exact replicas of real battlefields, they strike a perfect balance between historical accuracy and gameplay design. The fact that almost every building is accessible for combat opens up countless tactical opportunities, making every battle feel unique.
Cons of Squad 44:
Small Player Base. This naturally means fewer servers. I hope this is a temporary issue. On the upside, I’ve yet to encounter "randoms" or people who play just to ruin the experience for others. The same goes for leadership and squad-level interactions. In my experience, this is the best game for communication and teamwork, thanks to its amazing community. While I’d be happy to see the player base grow, I’m also wary that it could impact the current level of in-game cooperation.
Optimization. Despite its minimalist visuals, the game runs at around 70–100 FPS on my setup, which isn’t weak. Lowering the graphics settings doesn’t improve performance much, likely because the CPU takes the brunt of rendering the highly detailed explosions, smoke, and fire effects. I hope the developers optimize this aspect in the future.
Interface. It’s essentially carried over from Squad, which might help seasoned players transition smoothly, but it’s not the most user-friendly. While it’s not worse than HLL’s, many elements lack intuitiveness and convenience.
Minor Bugs. Occasionally, my mouse cursor disappears, but this is easily fixed by re-entering the menu. Ping values for servers are sometimes displayed incorrectly during the first search. Also, there’s no option to change the main menu background. Honestly, I’m tired of looking at those guys leaning over the map while a train passes and explosions go off. Please let us select a static image or something else!
Give this game a chance, and you definitely won’t regret it if you’re a fan of this genre!

Very realistic and hard game. This is not a game for amateurs. If you're impatient, can't follow commands, this game is definitely not for you!
This is way better than Hell Let Loose. HLL is more or less running around like COD, while this game you have to move with the team if you dont want to die all the time. Use tactics and supoort other squads to win the battle. Game is worth full price.
Generally good game. It has engaging gun play, a now active dev team since OWI's takeover, and serviceable graphics. It is not too too taxing to run. I have seen people playing on potatoes. I would still check the minimum specs. The game can also be very cinematic. Charging up Utah Beach into an mg-42 while your squad leaders head gets ripped off and the guy next to you gets atomized by a grenade.
The community can be a bit difficult at times. Though I challenge you to find a game where that isn't the case. There is a lot this game doesn't teach you from the start. Old guard players can sometimes get frustrated with new players. Ignore them. Just keep your ears open, be willing to learn, and have fun.
This game never gets boring, even hundreds of hours in. Yes, the learning curve can be steep. But all my time in gaming has
taught me that patience is rewarded. The infantry gameplay is solid, although dependent on an effective Squad Lead. This part is similar to Squad. The armor gameplay is really stellar in this game and makes other shooters look like a joke. When an effective infantry squad and armor play together...this game is as good as it gets.
Oh, and if you like guns, this game models weapons better than 99% of shooters out there.
More tactical compared to HLL. Slightly slower pace but great selection of vehicles and support for all squads. Pity there is no progression for each rank or guns.
300 players in the entire server list and only 3-4 servers with people with a 5-10 minute queue. gameplay doesn't match the trailer at all.
Review of Squad 44
Squad 44 is an outstanding game that, in every aspect, surpasses Hell Let Loose. The only drawback is its relatively small player base. However, this may improve in the future as more Hell Let Loose players transition to Squad 44.
Pros:
• Stunning graphics
• Authenticity
• Immersive gameplay
• Accurate depiction of WWII
• Incredible fun and engagement
• Opportunity to truly experience WWII
• Exceptional sound design
• Cinematic effects
• Strong support from developers
• Low system requirements
Cons:
• Limited player base
• Time flies by too quickly when playing ;)
I highly recommend this game. While Hell Let Loose is great for those looking to “play” WWII, Squad 44 is for those who want to truly feel WWII.
Glory to the heroes who gave their lives for us 🕯️
This game is the jewel of Historic FPS. Way underrated since the new team has taken over, and since have given us such an updated masterpiece. This game alone before it was squad 44 was better than others like Hell Let loose. For simple realistic features such a penetration values with high caliber arms. This game continues to be slept on. With the continuous updates and love it is receiving from its new team. I would choose playing this over HLL ANY DAY. Don't sleep on this gem ladies and gents. Give it a go and see for yourself. This one is 100% worth the price and time.
i have a shameful 800+ hours in hell let loose and many from red orchestra 2 and rising storm back in the day.
the first few matches were rough, but after watching a 10 minute youtube video explaining all the mechanics, it was easy. hell let loose is a little bit more polished (it has its bugs too), but squad 44 is leagues more realistic and historical. most immersive ww2 game i've played. it has a lot of content (maps, factions, game modes--including parachute and beach landings). the armor combat is more realistic relative to other FPS. the mechanics are great and offer much more flexibility and replayability (on massive maps) than HLL. i still like HLL, but will probably switch over to this if the they keep improving it and players stick around with the pacific update.
as for the community, every online game has douchebags. i actually found that there were far fewer of them in this game. most people were willing to teach and answer any questions i had about how to play. if you ignore the people on your team trying to win (who need your help to do so--its a very teamwork/coordination heavy game) who are asking you to help and don't do your part to learn the game, you might be flamed. and you'd deserve it. nothing worse than the noob who hops in a critical role slot and just refuses to communicate or learn the role to help the team properly. be communicative and be nice and you'll usually get nice back! that was my experience anyway.
Foosball and Flanking's Reviews are trolls. 0.1 hour reviews with nothing good to say only to promote Shit Let Loose.
Squad44 Has Superior Tanking, Communication and Tactics are actually needed to perform well in the team.
Optimization isnt great but it has sure gotten better with the last update.
Tanking is very detailed and there are a lot of tanks. It ranges all the way from Light to Heavy tanks with a wide selection of ammo like AP, APCBC, APCR etc. All shells have their realistic penetration values and well as tanks being modeled with interior ammo racks, all different modules like engine, tracks (both left and right) being modeled for their own damage model.
Bye.
Underrated gem. Great welcoming community, there are some things that needs work, but the new devs are great and actually listens to the community. I always feel at home even when playing with strangers.
Feel the need to post since the free weekend means a good amount of people without a full hour ingame leaving negative reviews, here's a counterpoint from someone with almost 100 hours.
Pros: In my opinion, far and away the best WWII milsim in terms of accuracy, sound design, and community. Variety of weapons and vehicles available far surpasses anything else like it. Maps aren't as well-structured or well-lit as in HLL, so the game overall can look worse, but the graphics definitely aren't as poor as people make them out to be, textures in this game are significantly better IMO, especially after a series of graphical overhauls. Deeply passionate core community that will help out new players. Not every game will click, but the ones that do, with a good squad that uses their mics, are some of the most fun I've had in any modern FPS.
Cons: Still poorly optimized. Unless you have a powerful rig you will have issues running this. Due to certain maps being especially badly optimized, servers tend to mostly run older maps that look and play worse IMO. Most major bugs that have come with the most recent update got hotfixed within a day but jank is inescapable. The fun of games rides on your team being able to execute their roles competently, and the game lacking any sort of official tutorial for new players means it's easy for new players to get confused and overwhelmed.
More importantly than any of this, this game has a very active devteam that is in constant communication with the playerbase and works astonishingly fast for being all-volunteer. They've managed to turn this game around from being almost dead a year ago to having its alltime peak right now. If you are interested in the period at all, and willing to adjust to a different game, there is no better time to pick up Squad 44.
How is this a $42 game but looks and plays worse than Enlisted?
Get something like Hell let Loose not this thing
Admittedly, this game will not be for everyone. Your first matches will probably consist of getting shot in the face from nowhere, getting frustrated by the lack of a tutorial, and running around aimlessly for literal kilometers because you nor your team knows how to build spawns.
The game gets its shine from the people you play with. If you cannot use a microphone at least try to use text chat. There will always be somebody in the server passionate enough about the game to help newbies. If it wasn't for the teamplay based core and the community this fairly buggy game would not have survived to this day. It helps create pathways for people to gain enjoyment in a multitude of ways: shooting krauts, commanding tanks, driving around trucks while rarely seeing the enemy, and so on. The game will also continue to get better and more polished now that it has a proper game studio supporting its development.
However, if you just want a ww2 skin of a twitch shooter this is not the game for you. It's a soft milsim after all.
They need fix the lagging issue first or this game is literally unplayable at the current state
Dont waste your time buy hell let loose or squad but this game is garbage full of dude sucking each other dick trying to make themself believe that the game is good, not full of hacker and alive. The server staff are inactive just dont deserve any good review the gameplay is good just everything else is not
Needs more players but is literally 10000 times better then he’ll let loose
Squad 44 Review: I bought it on sale 12/13/24
As someone with over 150 hours in Hell Let Loose, I consider myself pretty well-versed in large-scale tactical shooters. But after spending significant time with Squad 44, I have to say that it has earned its place as a worthy rival. While both games share similar concepts, Squad 44 offers a level of immersion that feels more refined and intense. The gameplay is undoubtedly more challenging, which makes every engagement feel significant.
Immersion and Gameplay:
Squad 44 does a fantastic job of drawing you into its world. The attention to detail in the environment, sound design, and realistic combat mechanics creates a more immersive experience than Hell Let Loose in certain ways. The action feels a bit different, and there's something about the pacing and dynamics that makes the game feel more tense and rewarding. The gunplay is satisfying, the tactical decision-making matters, and communication with your squad feels crucial to success.
Challenge and Strategy:
The game is certainly more challenging than most shooters out there. The difficulty curve is steep, but it's this sense of danger and unpredictability that keeps me coming back. Every firefight feels like it could go either way, and the game doesn’t hold your hand — it’s all about strategy, teamwork, and timing.
The Not-So-Great:
While Squad 44 excels in many areas, it does have a few frustrating issues that can take you out of the experience at times. Bugs are the biggest downside, particularly when it comes to grenade throws. Sometimes, grenades will clip onto tree branches and bounce back at you it's happened a few time to me RIP. Another annoying issue is when you’re not seated in a moving vehicle, and you suddenly fall off, only to be left behind.
Another aspect that can be frustrating is the lack of squad coordination. In most matches, I found that very few players bothered to put down outposts for respawn points. This means that, more often than not, you’ll be spending 10-15 minutes walking across the map just to get back into the action (very annoying).
Final Thoughts:
Despite its few bugs and frustrating moments, Squad 44 stands out as a compelling tactical shooter that improves on the immersion and challenge found in Hell Let Loose. With some tweaks to its mechanics and more consistent squad play, this game has the potential to be a must-play for fans of the genre. The attention to detail, the strategic depth, and the intense firefights all make Squad 44 a game I’d recommend to anyone who loves immersive, team-based combat.
just bc u couldnt master a tactical game in .3 hours u give it a bad review. interesting. imo this is as close to actual ww2 combat as ur getting. you even have to manualy rack ur bolt. no hud. insane tank combat. but it isnt easy. if u run and gun like HLL U WILL DIE. think squad. bc this is basically a reskin of squad. but it does need work. they literally just started back on it so give it time, potential is there. no players, no dev work.
kiss me goodnight sergeant major tuck me in my little wooden bed we all love you sergeant major. dont forget to wake me in the morningggggg and bring me round a nice hot cuppa tea. kiss me goodnight mergeant sajor sergeant major be a mother to meeeee.
Just bought the game a couple days ago and I mean, the game is good and all, graphics are alright(Hell let loose looks better). Only 2 servers that are keeping the game going and its nearly impossible to play anything other then rifleman. So yeah, if you are expecting to play as a sniper or shoot a MG or anything, good luck. It's to bad, if more people played it, probably would solve that issue. More servers etc but it is what it is. Maybe the Pacific update will fix some things and bring more people. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now.
Really thought it would be better, very disappointing. Don't even try the game if you enjoy good armor mechanics.
Its a great game, lots of fun to play, but as of now I cannot recommend it as the player base is too low. you can get on at 8pm on a Friday and there are only two, maybe three active servers. Because of this the two servers that are active are full and have a massive queue, the other active server is a training server and is full of griefers and trolls.
If you want a realistic shooter with vehicles, good combat mechanics, and plenty of player classes try Squad. Nearly identical play style as Squad44 but with a much more active player base.
Good game, there isnt much detail but enough. More realistic than Hell Let Loose, yet very similar games.
Fabulous game. Started without error's runs great on a Victus Laptop. Has most notable screen effects i have seen for any shooter being realistic in all ways. Good work Devs.
The game is beyond busted and plays like garbage, the only reason it still has an avid player base is because there isn't much competition out there that isn't also pretty busted in different ways.
This was my first tactical shooter i used to play it alot when it was still Post Scriptum but then over the years i kinda lost interest and the game died out (also because of Squad) but now since OWI bought it ITS BACK BABY and its going to get better with the inclusion of the Pacific Front plus there are some good mods out there which add other scenarios (Spanish Civil War, Eastern Front, the African Campaign). Would absolutely recommended also to further boost the player base since OWI deserves it!
This game is not for the faint of heart, but has some of the best multiplayer, team-based FPS moments I've ever experienced. It's to be noted though that your experience will take some time to grow into as this is a hardcore FPS where you often won't see where you were killed from. Your squad leader will also really have a major impact on how each round goes for you, whether they're communicating and leading well or not so much. I often try to play with squad leaders that I've played under before because you know you'll have a fun experience no matter whether you're winning the round or losing it!
poorly optimized and there are either servers with 100/100 players or 10/100 and really bad ping on all of them
This game is a what Hell Let Loose wants to be. Teamwork is more important, gun play is more difficult but also more satisfying, and the deployment methods of parachuting out of planes or taking boats in on D-Day adds so much to the immersion of the game.
I bought this in anticipation for the pacific update. OWI needs to do more to expand the playerbase, there is a lot of potential here.
It has unique mechanics, more content in terms of maps and vehicles than Hell Let Loose. But besides that it still has all the problems of Hell Let Loose, but with worse graphics, worse performance, more game-breaking bugs that cause hard crashes, 1/10th of the playerbase, etc. Needs more time to be polished.
The community that plays is great. The game is being improved regularly. Mod community is also always working on quality additions. Far better than HLL when it comes to WWII realism.
Game was good, then got bad cause Chapter 3, died, game picked up years later, game good, now game stagnant until Pacific
My first Milsim game that's set in WW2, great gameplay and audio design. Can be frustrating at times when you can't see where you're being shot from but that's the fun and thrill about it, can tell the devs care a lot about the game with hotfixes and the new update coming soon. Downside is player retention, a new update will bring many back but who knows if many of those players will stay. But despite the small amount of players, the community in this game is great and are willing to communicate to each other in game, the player base that is built around this game is one of the reasons it will never die, as long Squad 44 players exist, the game is still on.
If you are a big World War 2 history buff this game is for you especially after Offworld picked up development again and polished allot of fundamental things and the performance issues on allot of older ( Then Post Scriptum ) maps. We are getting the Pacific theater soon. The modding community is also very active for this game bringing new maps and vehicles to the game.
better than HLL
its a great game sometimes, can use some more first person shooter changes. like scopes and stuff to change. also rework the movement physics, it feels really bulky and buggy when climbing over things. Also redo the mortar put on the ground thing. most of the time it bugs. So u cant put it down even when on flat ground. And sometimes u can put it down but the meters are very different from each other.
This game should be above Hell Let Loose in any regard. More vehicle choices for tankers and logistics, better audio for gun mechanics and explosions, feels more realistic in game during battle, smoke grenades work the way they should with wind, tanks are not just hit point based for damage, strategic points feel important and you actually fight harder for them, and fortifications feel organic when built. Overall 10 out of 10.
Highly recommend you get the game if your into 1st person realism shooters based around WWII. The game does currently have a smaller niche community compared to other WWII game's like Hell Let Loose but, I would honestly say this is a far better game for those looking for a more realistic WWII shooter. I would also say that the armour/tank game play is easily the best your going to get from a WWII realism game. If all this dosent already sound good then the soon to be released Pacific front (Iwo Jima) should be the icing on the top.
I've played Hell Let Loose and Enlisted, and this is by far my favorite. The overall feel of the game is more immersive, the gunplay is harsh and intense, and the team effort is much more involved than other titles.
The training grounds are super cool and helpful for new players, and I would say the ability to jump in and learn is user friendly for players of all skill level.
highly recommend this game, and crossing my fingers for the future development, as I see this game easily overtaking HHL if the game keeps on getting the care and attention it deserves.
Good milsim with plenty of potential left. Looks, runs and sounds considerably better than Hell Let Loose. Wish the devs would put more work into it and maybe it can capture some of HLL's momentum.
Great game other than the fact you cant cancel animations even though i need to pull out my knife RIGHT FUCKING NOW or im dead
