the stylistic choice of how this game narrate its story as well as the artstyle made this quite an experience. the story could be a little bit slow but it's beautiful and painful story about two different people become friends in war. although the ending gave me a heartbreak (depending on choice i guess).
i love the bit at the bird and the cat and how they symbolizes both two sides of war and the animal that decided to accompany them. its a neat little detail for me
would i recommend this? if you like to listen to story of people at war then i guess its a worth of try. but this is a short game so i suggest to wait for sale. also fair warning, the artstyle of this game might hurt your eye a bit if you have a sensitive eye. this is a great addition to a lot of story telling games out there and i wish a couple of people specially those who like military shooter atlease see this game once in their life
its fine, absolutely horrendous to 100% though
dude i was not expecting to like this game as much as i did.
for everyone curious about the game, it plays smoothly (on a Chromebook btw😆)
the controls weren't great by default but they were very easy to change
i certainly recommend this game for anyone who's into wartime type content
it is a tad emotional though, especially depending on the choices you make
This is an all-round beautiful and artistically sophisticated game in the setting of World War I. 11-11: Memories Retold consists of a variety of well-composed, deeply emotional scenes, underpinned by gorgeous painterly graphics. The art style is the star of the show here. Just looking at a random screenshot taken from the game feels like entering a different world through a piece of art. You can stop at any given moment in the game and I guarantee that wherever you are, the scene will look like an oil painting. The usage of thick strokes, color and light is phenomenal and creates a very unique vibe that looks unlike any other game I've played.
11-11 is not only a beautiful game to look at but also knows how to grab the player with its writing. In the course of the game, you will perceive the events of World War I through the eyes of 2 people who are affected by the war in different ways. What I appreciated here was the fact that not only one specific view of the events of the war is given; it's not your typical "good vs. bad" depiction of this conflict that would betray a very shallow understanding of the socio-political situation that led to this disastrous tragedy. Instead, the horrors and the trauma that this war brought are conveyed through human perspectives on both sides of the frontline.
If you enjoy games like Ubisoft's Valiant Hearts and you want to learn more about the final stage of the first world war while immersing yourself in stunningly beautiful environments, you should give this game a try. Be warned that some of the events and characters depicted here are truly tragic and may break you emotionally more than once. Unfortunately, this is the nature of war. This makes the game all the more important though as 11-11: Memories Retold is a true lesson in humanity.
11-11: Memories Retold is one of those rare games that stays with you long after the credits roll. A deeply emotional narrative adventure set during World War I, it tells the intertwined stories of Harry, a young Canadian photographer, and Kurt, a German technician searching for his lost son. Unlike most war games, 11-11 doesn’t focus on combat or strategy but instead explores the human side of war—loss, hope, and the unexpected connections that form in the most harrowing of circumstances.
What immediately sets this game apart is its breathtaking, hand-painted art style. Every scene looks like a living impressionist painting, full of swirling brushstrokes and soft edges. While I can see how it might not be for everyone—especially those who prefer sharper, more detailed visuals—I found it to be a perfect match for the game’s dreamlike, reflective tone. The watercolor aesthetic makes everything feel distant, like a fading memory, which only enhances the game’s emotional weight.
The storytelling is where 11-11 truly shines. The game’s dual perspectives offer a nuanced look at the war from both sides, with strong voice performances from Elijah Wood (Harry) and Sebastian Koch (Kurt) adding depth to their respective characters. The writing is subtle but powerful, letting small moments carry immense emotional impact. Instead of glorifying war, the game makes you feel the weight of it—the uncertainty, the sorrow, and the brief glimpses of humanity amidst the chaos.
But the part that truly made me love 11-11? The cat. Yes, you can actually play as a cat stuck underground, navigating through the trenches, slipping between soldiers, and experiencing the war from a completely different perspective. It’s such a unique addition, and while it could have just been a gimmick, it ends up being a surprisingly poignant element of the story. The cat doesn’t understand the war; it’s just trying to survive, which in a way mirrors the struggle of the main characters. Playing as this little feline, weaving through danger, adds a layer of emotional depth I wasn’t expecting.
Overall, 11-11: Memories Retold is a masterful experience—one that is more about emotion than action, more about memory than history. It’s a game that doesn’t just tell a story but makes you feel it. Whether you’re drawn in by the narrative, the stunning art, or—like me—the chance to play as a cat, this is a game worth experiencing. Just be prepared for an emotional journey you won’t forget.
⭐️ 9/10 ⭐️
Great story driven game that has multiple pathways, multiple endings. I loved every bit of it, except for the ending. The best ending isn't quite how I thought it would end. I still 100% recommend this game.
Great Game
Interesting game, good for "couch playing". The story gets progressively more personal and grabs you. There are several options that you can make, and you have several endings (more than I thought). I recommend this :).
Lest We Forget
At first I didn't like the art style, but as I played the game it grew on me and I enjoyed the storyline.
The only thing I wish there was, [spoiler] to be able to change or add endings of the already existing ones by being able to save the main german's son. [spoiler]
Decent story. short nut interesting glimpse into world war one. 8 out of 10 anti-war walking sim with a cool art style. Definitely worth it if its on sale.
WHAT THE FUCK IS A HAPPY ENDING!!! I LOVE THIS GAME!!!
This is a beautiful story giving some unreal feeling for its coincidences, yet still very real with all its controversy. To me, there is no good ending, none at all. Acting like a hero, one never gets recognized as one. And vice versa. So sad. War is always sad.
I don't know what the point of this game is. It doesn't teach you about WWI because its presentation of that conflict is plainly unrealistic to the point of going "over the top" in a battle and feeling all the danger of the produce section at the grocery store. It's not to convey some kind of point about morality or loss because it doesn't covey any such thing beyond "it's bad when someone you care about dies, and also killing is bad." And the point is certainly not to tell a good story, because this game only tells an increasingly preposterous and incompetent story that needed any number of rewrites but didn't get them, and even if it had, one of the main characters is completely undermined by a school play-calibre voice performance from Elijah Wood, who must literally have phoned it in because at no point was he ever within 100 miles of a director. I actively hated his character because the actor imbues him with such casualness as to come off as psychopathic; even worse that he is contrasted so totally by the rest of the voice cast, who actually do a proper job despite the idiotic, hot air balloon-filled story they're a part of.
I can only imagine the point of this game is to introduce the horror of WWI to an audience that wouldn't otherwise encounter it, but such is its fatal flaw: in presenting so incompetent a vision of history, it lies to those who don't know any better. If you've never read a history book in your life then maybe this game will seem realistic or impactful, and if so god help you. *Please* read a book instead (or at the very least listen to Dan Carlin's WWI podcast series)-- I know how that sounds, but in this case it is absolutely the best possible advice to anyone considering this game. This game, in its sole artistic achievement, conveys WWI like war itself conveys humanity-- everything at its worst, probably motivated by money on some level, and tragic in how needless it all is.
PS: there *are* actual WWI documents in the game that you could learn something from, but they're locked behind finding dozens and dozens of tiny envelopes during gameplay, the pursuit of which drags you away from the narrative, often to a preposterous extent-- hunting for collectables while someone literally yells "COME ON, THIS WAY" or while under sniper fire, or while the character's loved one is having a medical emergency in the next room. I suppose practically-unrivalled unintentional comedy can be this game's other artistic achievement... (okay, the graphical style was nice too... but for god's sake, when so many people are working on your game, give them an actually good story to tell).
I expected the main story to be realistic, but they went too far in their imaginations and mixed things that do not make sense at all !!!
and the terrible thing is that the real facts that actually happened in ww1 had been hidden from you in the form of collectibles who takes hours and hours to find them !
That was the biggest disappointment.
The game starts out promising, the visuals are fine, and the fact that you do not actually shoot a rifle throughout is not a detriment to the game in itself. But as the game goes on, the more naïve it gets. For example, you find yourself in a trench, in your gas mask while gas is being deployed and the battle is raging around... And the game sends you over the top into no man's land to... find your cat. If you want to know the basics of WWI and dislike violent games, it's fine. If you consider yourself a bit of a history buff, stay away.
8/10
