About the Game
Welcome to the fantastical world of Alamyth where you can recruit all new legendary heroes and fight the terrifying forces of evil. Visit all new landscapes of Alamyth such as the Firelands and fight the likes of The Leprechaun Henchmen and the evil villain, Ernak The Lethal. Just beware, if the Mastermind, Terriskai: Terror Of The Skies completes his evil scheme, everyone loses. The bestselling Legendary® Deck Building Game is here. Experience Legendary with your friends like never before; same great game, a brand new fantasy. Over the course of the game, players will recruit powerful hero cards to add to their deck in order to build a stronger and more resourceful deck. Players need to build both their recruitment powers (to enlist more heroes) and their fighting ability (to combat the villains who keep popping up to cause trouble). Players recruit heroes from an array of six cards, with empty slots refilled as needed. At the start of a player's turn a villain card is revealed and added to the row of villains. This row has a limited number of spaces, and if it fills up, villains start to escape. The villain deck also contains "master strike" cards, and whenever one of these shows up, the mastermind villain (controlled by the game) takes a bonus action. As players fight and defeat villains, they collect those cards, which will be worth points at game's end. Players can also fight the mastermind; if a player has enough fighting power, he claims one of the attack cards beneath the mastermind, which has a particular effect on the game. If all of these cards are claimed, the game ends and players tally their victory points to see who wins. If the mastermind completes his scheme, however – having a certain number of villains escape, for example, or imposing a certain number of wounds on the heroes – then the players all lose. You will never play the same game twice as the game changes each time you play. Team up with other players and fight to the end but make sure you have collected enough victory points along the way to be victorious.
Features:
- Multiple Game Modes - Solo, Quick Match, VS Friends, Gauntlet, Raids
- Collections - Rare Cards, Gameplay Mats, Avatars and Emotes (Collect them all!)
- Gauntlet - Tournament style competitive play

If you enjoy the Legendary System, this is right up your alley. Get to know entirely new characters/villains/scenarios and fall in love with each one. Thoroughly enjoy playing this game.
The lack of actuall expansions for last 2 years, and lack luster quallity of recent updates, and focus on paid random gatcha nature of visual items show how little to no attention dev gave this game. I'll stick to playing Marvel Legendary on TTS, than waste time on game long since abandoned.
This game is mechanically similar to the "Legendary: Marvel" game, however it is made up heroes. I personally with Upper Deck got the rights to use Marvel IPs, but that is the least of my gripes.
The first major gripe, is the freezing that goes on in the game (you have to refresh the game a lot, and rarely, to your detriment).
Second major gripe, is the fact that in order for a player to participate in anything that isn't single player, (Raids, etc) they have to use energy bars, and if they run out, you can't participate. This is a silly pay-for-convenience mechanic that should not be available in a game which you had to pay 12 bucks for.
I would not recommend this game to anyone who wants the true experience of the Legendary Marvel game, but would rather point them to alternate platforms, because at this point, the only benefit of this game is a calculator.
I love Marvel Legendary and this is mostly just a digital reskin of that. However this looks like someone made it in a few days and is just not that great to play on the PC.
I have never written a review for a game before, but this game is so offensive I had too. Do not play this game until they fix it or change some of the features. First of all I bought this way back when it cost money and it was ok the UI was a little clunky and animations dragged a bit, but it allowed you to play solo matches fine. I tried matchmaking then and unfortunatley could never find a match.
Fast forward to now and I decided to play some legendary DXP and nocited they added a bunch of features, a campaign, challanges, ai companions, different matchmaking modes, and more cards. Wow this is great I thought I can't wait to play more. So I mostly play solo and decided to play with the AI, first of all the AI is terrible, you are better off playing two handed and rolling a dice to make the decisions. Now this would be more acceptable if we had the option to play multiple hands, because certain schemes and villians don't work great with the solo rules. Although the biggest issue is that I tried to play four matches and only completed 2, the other two timed out, and every single match had to reconnect to the server at least once, because OF COURSE IN ORDER TO PLAY SOLO YOU NEED TO BE CONNECTED TO THE DAMN SERVERS. Of course makes perfect sense when I want to play the solo version of a digital board game I need to be connected to the internet. Not only that the net code seems to have been written by a early 2000s chat bot because it is almost impossible to go 3 or 4 turns before there is a connection issue and possible the game just gets stuck in an infinite loop trying to connect to the servers. I would literally be better off taking my hard copy of legendary to starbucks and just randomly staring at people until somebody would join me and play.
Then I thought ok lets try the campaign, well guess what THE DAMN CAMPAIGN IS STUCK TO A HORRIBLE ENERGY SYSTEM! I haven't seen an energy system on a free to play game since candy crush let alone a game I payed full price for before and bought the expansions. Wow well done you guys have literally made a digit al version that is more cumbersome and difficult to play then setting up the physical version. It would be like if someone made a calculator so terrible that people decided to just ocunt on their fingers instead, BECAUSE THE DAMN CALCULATOR JUST KEPT GETTING STUCK TRYING TO CONNECT TO THE SERVERS. Do not download this game, I believe this game will in the future be used a torture device in order to interrogate criminals, similar to stress positions and water boarding. Do yourself a favour buy the hard copy set it up play with yourself or play with some friends and if you really want to play this version you could easily simulate it by trying to play your hard copy during a hurricane with your hands tied behind your back. At least then you'd be able to play a match.
Devs if you see this please add a offline mode where you can still level up and earn points for packs if you play by yourself like you had before! And remove this stupid energy system and just have some sort of fee trial of the campaign up to a certain point and maybe pay for the rest. Until then I will uninstall this garbage and go play the hard copy.
Do you enjoy deck-building board games? Cooperative Play? Take That Mechanics? Variable Rule Sets?
If you have no idea what I am talking about... This is a card game, each player has the same small starting deck of cards. Over the course of a game you will purchase cards to add to your deck and eliminate cards from your deck, to help you (hopefully) draw better hands as the game progresses. Your objective is to defeat the Mastermind, or boss, of the instance you are playing. Each instance, or game session, that you play may have a different Mastermind, as well as a differing Scheme. The Scheme dictates the win condition for the Mastermind, as well as the rules for that particular session. This is a simplification of the overall game, it would be easier for you to check out the game and run through the tutorial (it's free!)
If so this is a fantastic digital implementation and one you should check out.
However, be aware that the community is still growing and multiplayer games are not always going to be available. I would highly recommend anyone interested in this game, looking for cooperative or competitive modes, to join the discord channel to remedy this in the short term.
If you know nothing about deck-building games there is a great tutorial and single player campaign which will get you up to speed. Deck-builders are quick, fun and challenging, and a growing segment of the board gaming hobby as a whole.
I wantted really badly to love this game-- I love playing Marvel Legendary (tabletop) and this is pretty much the same but without Marvel attached.
However, Legendary DXP carries some pretty major flaws, before even considering the abrupt change to F2P that leaves me feeling screwed over.
Negatives:
-UI just makes it feel bloated.
Everything feels slow. I don't tend to be impatiant, but when I play this I feel irritated waiting for things to happen-- not when other players play mind you, but when the computer needs to do something.
-Buggy as all get out
I tend to not get too hung up on bugs because they can be fixed. But some bugs are obvious and huge and even a single playtest would seem to catch. Every version has had some like that, most recently, every scheme twist card drawn would also KO a hero from HQ. I played three different set-ups to see if it was some hidden mechanic i wasn't understanding (which isn't uncommon in this version!), it wasn't.
-The 'shuffling' seems bad.
Legendary is a card game and this is a digitilized version of that. Even in the tabletop game, sometimes it feels you may have just been shuffling then unshuffling so this may be user expierence, not a game issue, but it just seemed things were always grouped together. First few games I played I lost very quickly as every draw was scheme twist or master strike.
-- Not enough cards in the villian deck?
Main reason I've lost games is decks running out, and far too quickly feeling. I've not compared rulesets to see if that should be normal, but when I have played the tabletop version it never felt like a majorly urgent thing until several rounds have passed. In this version, the decks deplete so fast even before i can do anything it's a concern, then when coupled with three scheme twists in a row, its over before it really began.
-- Complete lack of deck rules/custimization
Assuming, as I did that the last point is mostly my own issue, there should be an option SOMEWHERE to start a match with an extra deck shuffled. In the tabletop game, the instrustions encourage altering mechanics to tweek difficulty. When I've played with new players, this sometimes has meant throwing in an extra hero or villian into the decks. As far as I can tell, there are no such options.
-No AI CO-OP
I bought this to scratch an itch for legendary because it isn't exactly easy around me to find other players and do a game, and I'm not always interested in playing with strangers online. Ascension (another deck builder) lets you play with AI players, at least of last time i tried it, there was no way to do so here. You play by yourself or with people online. Something is missing when you are the only one vieing for cards, and playing heroes.
--F2P?
I bought this game because of my love for Legendary. It has always sortof felt like a free2play game in the unlocks and lack of game custimization options, but suddenly it became f2p (supposedly because of players request?) and in return for my purchase price, I got some free unlocks and a brief respite from the unruly 'energy' requirements of the campaign. So exciting! I don't feel ripped off at all!
Positives--
It's legendary...?
The games are pretty short-- mostly because the decks run out so fast.
I'm not going to spend hundreds of dollars on expansions for this...?
Sorry, all reaches. I really just can't reccommend this game for the foreseeable future.
I don't often write reviews because often the games I play are pretty straight forward.
My recommendation is mainly focused on the single player campaign.
The game is build as pay-to-win and as you advance in the campaign you play or 1 game a day or spend money on playing more.
Unlike the real paper game the randomness seems to be designed against you.
The interface works but could be so much more intuative and optimized, it feels old fashion if you look at other card games these days.
Personally I kind of regret buying it, I'll keep playing if from time to time in the hope I can get past certain points in the campaign that I would consider in other games to be "very hard"
TLDR: If you fail a single player campaign level you have to wait 6 hours to try again.
Legendary DXP has the potential to be a really fun deck building game but it's let down by a below average UI and a brutal energy system that has no place in a paid game. Each campaign level costs energy to play from a starting bank of 6. The initial levels are 1 energy each but later levels can cost 6 energy meaning if you fail the level there is a 6 hour wait while your energy fully replenishes. Of course you could pay real money to buy in game gold which can then be used to buy energy.
I have other thoughts about the game but honestly they don't matter. The energy system is such a problem it outweighs any positives the game has.
EDIT: I have been informed that my experience with everything not having been unlocked may or may not have been a bug. Regardless, the play I did during the 2H prior to refunding was choked out by the "energy" system, which I needed gold to purchase more energy, and gold was purchasable with real money. IMO this is a horrible structure for a purchased game.
A dev also responded to my complaints about the game on their discord saying "We'll make the features and in-app purchases more clear on Steam." That was nice for them to respond, and I hope they do so, as well as revamp the current 90's UI.
Original Review:
This game is advertised as having many features, masterminds, etc to play. It costs $10.
HOWEVER, there is no way to unlock the full game's functionality through "free" play (that's actually not free since I bought the game.
Everything except Solo game mode (with only one mastermind and one scheme, with the same villains and henchmen) is behind a convoluted paywall of microtransactions.
I am extremely dissapointed. The concept of the game is brilliant, and Upper Deck is doing themselves a disservice by using the microtransaction model. At least they should be upfront and disclose the "F2P" and paywall content in the games store description.
I do not recommend this game in its current form:
The amount of time on this game is entirely based on the Energy Bar
Some minor microtransactions,
lack of communication between players during pvp or co-op
EDIT: Game has gone free to play.
But I still would to see a normal chat box for normal conversations instead of using emojis.
Do yourself a favour and ignore this and buy the physical game.
This is a rubbish mobile port of a FTP game with a rubbish UI that wants you to purchase it for money but doesn't remove the FTP elements like limiting how much you can play through an "energy" system that refills slowly over time or if you pay using premium currency. This is a cheap tactic in FTP games to try and get mugs to pay out, but is inexcusable in a game you have to purchase to play.
I purchased this game because I'm a fan of the table top game. That said after opening the game I was fine with logging in to play, but then my opinion of the game took a nose dive. This was brought on by the fact that paying customers have to use energy to play the campaign mode of the game. Fo those unfamiliar energy is used for certain game modes. Once all bars are depleted you can wait it out or shell out more money to speed up the proccess. This is unacceptable in paid game. Sell extra items, card, ect., but don't hold the campaign to ransom behind a timer.
As a huge fan of the board game this is a nice adaptation with a friendly community that is still growing. They have added Paint the Town Red from the board game and have announced a improved single player and competetive update. If you do pick the game up the developers are active on Discord and do weekly streams.
Update: I recommend the game now. The Dev fixed the issue from my previous update. So if you bought the game before it went free to play you no longer have to spend money to buy energy to play. As far as I know, it's still there in the free to play version. Everything else I said about the game still stands so buyer beware. faults aside it's a fun game when it works, and right now its the only way to play a legendary game online.
Update: Changed my review to a thumbs down because the dev just put in a crap update. You now have to spend energy to play the game, you buy the energy with game coins, you get the game coins by using real money. This game should be a free to play since it feels like a mobile app game and not a game I paid for.
The Good: If you're a fan of the Legendary Marvel Deck Building Game or you wanted to play it; this is the game for you. It's pretty much the basest from the Marvel Deck Building Game with a different skin. The game works as far as I can tell, I haven't come across any card glitches yet. You can also unlock a lot of customization for your account by playing the game and doing leader board challenge stuff. It feels like the devs want to build a fun community for the players.
The Bad: If you've never played the Marvel Deck Building Game this game can frustrate you because you have no idea what the cards do and how they work together unless you play the game 100s of times; the reason this is, is because the devs left out a option to view all the decks before you play. When I get a new card game I like to look at the cards and think of ways they work with each other and what cards are best for different situations, but yo can't do that in this game so far because there is no way to check the cards, you just have to play for a very long period of time to see how the cards work together.
The Ugly: As far as I can tell (I could be wrong) this game requires you to login with a account to play it, which means you can't play this game offline, there's also a in game store to buy card packs; from what I can tell the packs are just cosmetic, it's not pay to win, but there is a expansion you an buy in the store.
So I recommend this game because it's the only way to play Legendary online right now, but it's not perfect.
One of the best deckbuilding game ever made in digital version. There are 3 different ways to play online (2-5 players) amd solo mode. If you buy base game you get all the cards, id you pay in game gold you can purchase expansions and you get all the expantion cards. This game is oposite to PTW! Sure you can buy boosters, but there are only card sleeves, playmats, emoticons and... phisical Upper D.E.C.K. games (they send games to US and Canada only).
If you're a fan of the physical Legendary games by Upper Deck, you'll almost certainly like this. At the time of this review, I've put in 17 hours and haven't come across any bugs or unexpected behavior. The in-game booster packs are just cosmetic (card sleeves, foil or animated versions of cards that you already have access to, playmats, etc.). It's worth noting that the booster packs don't give you (or anyone else) any sort of advantage when playing the game.
TL;DR - if you like physical Legendary you'll like digital Legendary, Upper Deck implemented digital booster packs the *correct* way
Legendary is a Small game where you and your companions / other players must cooperate to defeat a mastermind, and prevent Evil from winning the game! At the same time you are competing with your friends to get as many points as possible before the game ends, either by the players or by evil.
This is identical to Upper Decks other physical game, Marvel: Legenedary. The only difference between the two is one is licensed by Marvel and takes a very long time to set up. This version, set in a fantasy world, is quicker and runs well, when it wants too. There are various bugs withing the game, however, that stop the game almost completely for one player. Thankfully this game is young, and bug patches have already come by the time this review comes out. FYI, there is a "reset game" button in the options menu that allows you to stay in game, and fix the bugs.
Marvel: Legendary has been one of the best game I have ever played, and a online game is simply icing to that feeling. Legendary: DXP has once again shown how good it is, but how bad at programming Upper Deck is.
Recommend, I'm a fan of the Legendary card game, this partially fulfills that enjoyment. A bit mysified by why Upper Deck didn't bust out the gates with a solid hit, such as Alien or Marvel, and with this weird fantasy take. I guess rights issues, don't know. Anyway, it pretty much plays the same. But further play may reveal balance issues. I felt I kept getting a hand full of the same basic cards, not enough random mix of the ones I bought as I played. Speaking of buying, not a fan of micropurchases and I had a confusing time staying away from being in a real purchase situation when all I was doing was finding my way around the system. That smacks of sneaky tricks for an accidental purchase. I'd also prefer NOT to have to create and account and just offline play.
i recommend the game. It very much settles on the marvel legendary format and you don't need to go through setting up the board. the only thing lacking about this is word of mouth. there are not enough people playing it yet . once the user base jumps up on steam it will be a great game.
