In the early 1990's, in a time before mobile phones and the Internet, you find yourself travelling to visit your aging father in a remote retirement home. On the way, you find yourself stranded in the strangely abandoned Windy Oaks National Park: a new park founded on land donated by the Samstone Mining Company as an act of goodwill after a catastrophic sinkhole accident. Using your wits and tenacity, you must figure out a way to contact help and escape, before the park consumes you.

Very atmospheric P&C game with well-placed horror elements. I enjoyed the experience and I would love to see the devs making another game like this.
It is very short, but I'm not complaining since it's free.
Despite its short length, Shiver manages to build tension and a bit of lore. This, together with some smart puzzles and nice looking art, makes it worth your while and leaves you wanting for more.
Had a few good jumps to it. Has the potential to be a much longer game.
Fun little horror story for a price of a cup of coffee. Nothing groundbreaking. but pretty relaxing overall. Took me a little over 30 minutes to finish and get all the achievements.
very short game, you need to place it twice to get all the achivements. First playthrough will take you 30-45 mins and second you can do in about 10. so short it feels like a demo. good jump scares tho!
Shiver is a point-and-click adventure game that manages to tick the boxes of what a p&c adventure game should be, but it's just way too short to give it any serious recommendation.
One snowy evening, you manage to drive your car off road into a recently abandoned national park. You're stranded right next to a mine, which comes with a shack that could offer shelter and maybe even some means to call for help. But how do you get in? And didn't you just see someone -or something?- move out of the corner of your eye?
The game's atmosphere is decently creepy, although the word 'horror' in the game's description is not accurate. There are three slight jumpscare-type moments in the game and that's it for 'horror'.
Shiver's graphics are quite beautiful for an indie game this short and simple. There is no background music, but I didn't feel the game needed it: the ambient sound of the howling wind sufficed to set the atmosphere. There are a few lines of voice-over narration, which are rendered decently enough.
Gameplay is typical point-and-click adventuring, meaning you collect items to use on objects in the game world in order to advance in the game. Sometimes, you first have to combine two useless items in your inventory to create a useful item.
Shiver's game world is tiny and there aren't a lot of items to interact with, so it only takes 30 to 45 minutes to complete the game. Weighed against the price tag of €1.99, I cannot recommend this game. It feels like a demo to show people the basic gameplay of a typical point-and-click adventure game, so they can decide whether or not the genre is something they might like and then move on to full-fledged point-and-click adventure games.
If you're familiar with the genre, though, you won't find anything new in Shiver. If you can buy it for a quarter or so, or if it comes in a bundle, I would suggest playing through the game for the hell of it. But recommending everyone to spend two euros on such a basic and short adventure game wouldn't sit right with me, hence the thumbs down.
As a final note, a short word on Steam's extra features. Shiver doesn't come with Steam Trading Cards. There are 11 Steam Achievements to unlock. Seven of those are story-related and can't be missed. The remaining four achievements are missable and some are mutually exclusive, so unlocking all of them requires you to play through the game a second time.
Thank you to the developer and publisher Kowai Sugoi Studios for making a quick and entertaing Point and click Adventure for me to escape and enjoy.
Shiver is a simple piont and click adventure that is brief(1hr) but that hour is enough that will leave you more than satisified at a very acceptable price of admission. The game is set during a blizzard in the the 90's with some brief period references(love the microwave throwback) but for myself some jump scares and sound design are the real payoff. The puzzles are pretty simple and with only 20-30 scenes its easy to decipher even for novices.
Shiver is like a Saturday afternoon feature that doesnt waste the players time. Its a good story driven, P&C game that is more effective in its short play time than most games with triple the amount of content. GG.
Dang! Good game with the initial pacing, but stuff falls off too fast in the later half, as some have mentioned. A little more buildup, and perhaps, illumination on the threat(s) presented in the game would certainly help iron things out.
There were a few things (such as the oak tree) that I feel could have played potentially bigger roles, and of course... The antagonist is actually a case of the absense of 'tell' with little 'show' to back it up. Sure it is good to leave things to the imagination, but there isn't much around to 'fuel' my image for whatever creature may or may not have gone after me.
And, of course as others have mentioned, at least some answers to questions posed throughout the game (such as the presense of the monster, murders, etc), or at least hints at such answers would be nice. Unfortunately, even if some games do benefit from questions remaining unanswered, there is not enough 'food for thought' to allow this kind of thing to work properly.
I played through the game in 30-40 minutes, there was a technical issue that I had to resolve with the unity game engine, and there was not a sense of a complete story. This reminded me of one small part of a larger game, as it teased me about a much wider world that was never explored. There was only a dozen "rooms" to explore, and there were about the same number of interactable objects.
It would be nice if there was a donate button on steam, so developers could make these "proof of concept" games, and we could give them a buck or two for furthering their efforts. Because a game like this just simply cannot be compared to some other point and click games that can be bought for a few dollars more. Even when it is on sale, I feel kind of disappointed with the experience, even though I was ready for a short game after reading the reviews.
I ran this game on ubuntu linux 18.10 with radeon mesa drivers.
Regardless of whether this game is short or not, $2.99 (Atow) is well worth the experience. I am a big fan of both horror/Thriller and Point and click adventure and this game was fun. Overall slightly easy puzzles, short but sweet narrative (not the greatest, not the worst) and visualy interesting.
Graphics: 7/10 mix or photo and drawn assets (worked quite well).
Sound: 7/10 I think most was stock but super good choices and fit the theme/pacing.
Narrative: 8/10 its a bit cliche but the delivery was good, clues and whatnot to infer direction.
Dialogue: 7/10 some written some VO the VO wasnt too bad and the written was just the player (which is good).
Responcivness: 9/10 Super fast scene transitions and really good colliders for interactions .
Shiver is a short but very spooky and atmospheric game; now let’s get into the story.
You play as a guy who is on his way to see his dad, but gets into a car accident on the way so he must find a way to get help.
Okay time for the likes, why’ll this game is sort it very well made no bugs or anything like that, the story was nice and the game did a great job at building tension and a little bit of isolation. The Puzzle were fair and the price for this game is very fair.
Now the dislikes, now the only problem with the game is it’s too short, I mean you can beat it in under an hour I would have liked it if it was a bit longer and added a few more notes. But still the game is good.
So if you want a short but very spooky and atmospheric game this one is definitely for you.
Why? Seriously, what the f.
This started out actually really good, I was hooked, I wanted to know more and play through this. It has a great atmostphere, chilling surroundings, the sound is amazing, even the few jumpscares got me. I really was enjoying myself.
Until literally it just stops.
It's over. And you feel like you just got to smell the amazing dinner everyone is eating but you. And what's more is when you realized you PAID to smell the amazing dinner you're not going to eat. You begin to feel cheated, and angry. And that's exactly what I feel. Any promise the game has, any enjoyment I got out of my short time is destroyed by the fact that the dev dared to charge for a half hour piece of unfinished business. I'm so disappointed.
You can discuss whether this game should be for free like for example Serena or Blameless. But you don't have to. A coffee at Starbucks is probably faster consumed and less entertaining. If you can afford the amazing amount of 3€ to honour the developers' effort, you get a very short but atmospherical and not uneerie game with a few shocking moments - of course not on an Amnesia level. If the game is to blame for anything, than that it's way too easy. I finished it in about 45 minutes without any difficulties, and that was probably even slow. A few more challenges would have been an advantage.
Very short game. The artwork is pretty good, and it's coded in Unity, so it looks nice. I would not pay $3 for less than an hour of fun, but on sale I feel like it's worth it for a short diversion. Pretty easy to navigate without a guide, and the "horror" part genuinely got me the first playthrough, though there is little sense of danger. Would like to see an expansion of the story, including how it connects to the first game, Cozy, and where the story could go from there.
Very short, no real story line and very simple. It was a good concept, not sure of the point though. Would love to see it filled out. It feels like an idea that was never completed.
Point-and-click is my favorite genre of game, so i know i would like this game. Is a really simple point-and-click game, with a few jumpscares, a cool story and realy enjoyable.
This is essentially a NewGrounds game that you can pay for. The game is appx 1 hour.
It was too short but they put effort in, so I gave them a positive reivew.
You can beat it in under an hour, but does the game keep you captivated during that hour? It certainly does! There's a feeling of growing tension because of the setting, which helps build a feeling of isolation. The story kept me captivated, I wanted to see how things played out for our protagonist. Puzzles also kept things interesting. In short I'd recommend. One of the easiest 100% games I ever did. Since I played for an hour and paid $5, that boils down to me paying roughly 83 cents every 10 minutes. In short, there are worse ways to spend your money.
Looked like an interesting recreational point-and-click, but turned out to be almost comical and very, VERY short (15 min). No challenge whatsoever and definitely not a "horror" game, by any stretch. Although only $5, was not worth it at all.
Shiver is a nice and quick point and click experience that does a great job building tension with its music and the enviroment. It definitly leaves you wanting more and I'm sure this isn't the last we have seen of Windy Oaks.
