After The Collapse is a base-building game set in a post-apocalyptic world featuring both urban and country-side environments. It features Z levels (ability to dig down to explore caverns and sewers) and the ability to manage multiple dozens of survivors in real-time. It also gives you the choice between playing as technology-minded humans, combat-focused mutants, or even a tribe of cannibals.
Your task is to manage a band of survivors and protect them against raiders, mutants, monsters, and other environmental threats. To do so, you'll have to build a base, discover new technologies, and scavenge for resources. As the game progresses, you'll send expeditions to explore a dynamic world map to find other survivors, repair resource production centers, deal with other factions, uncover hidden secrets, and retrieve lost technologies.
After The Collapse, on top of being a free-form base-building game with light 4X elements, also includes multiple scenarios and a very expansive Story Mode with an optional tutorial for newcomers.
- Build a colony in procedurally generated environments featuring many biomes, weather patterns, multiple underground layers with resources, and dangerous foes.
- Manage a population ranging from a few survivors to hundreds of them and defend them against bandits and other creatures with automated turrets, traps, and other defensive structures.
- Multiple game modes, a full story mode, and several scenarios with specific challenges, goals, and quests.
- Launch expeditions to find more survivors, loot, and technologies in a dynamic world map where other factions are competing for control of the various resource production centers. Deal with them as you see fit.
- Explore forgotten bunkers through an interactive story system to uncover lost technologies, like the ability to build your own customizable robotic army.
- Use captured enemies as a workforce or as commodities and tame giant creatures to use them as pets, cattle, or even a way to defend yourself.
- Deal with dozens of special events: sicknesses, fires during heat waves, mental breakdown, enemy raiders, requests for help from civilians, and many more.
- Full modding and Steam Workshop support.
After The Collapse features a long campaign that also serves as a tutorial in its early stages. It follows the adventures of a group of survivors since their arrival in the bunker which kept them alive during the Collapse. It also sets the game's official lore through cutscenes and interactive quests.
While Story Mode is played as a group of standard humans, in all other game modes and most scenarios, you can play as one of three archetypes:
- The weak but technologically-minded humans who sure die easily in a fight, but they can unlock the ability to build modern gear, weapons, and automated turrets to defend themselves.
- The strong mutants, immune to most sicknesses and weather effects, but have a tendency to fight amongst themselves and are very technology limited. They rely on map exploration and scavenging to find and use the more powerful weapons.
- The nasty cannibals who have no issue converting bandits and other hostiles into food, but who have forgotten their pre-war skills.
As the game progresses, the world around you will change. Plants will grow, wither and die. Weather will change, impacting your crops. Creatures will start roaming the countryside and may enter your base when you don't expect it. Other factions will compete for the control of the critical resource production centers.
After the Collapse is under active development and will continue to receive free content updates regularly.

After The Collapse is a very easy game to mod. Mod creators will enjoy its very robust engine and that all the game's data (from items to mobs or game events) is written in a simple, text-driven, format. More advanced modders will appreciate the ability to use LUA.
Of course, the Steam Workshop is fully supported.

A very positive surprise, its a complex labor of love with excellent developer support.
Originally I looked for some Rimworld "light" game... post apocalyptics sci-fi setting, I gave a swing... at first glance it looked like a simple base builder, but as I progressed and spent more and more time - and got questions asnswered by the dev himself on the official discord, it turned out this game has much-much more than it looks at the beginning, basically have everything what we need in such game:
- good storyline and other unique game modes
- perfectly working colonists - base management works well and stable
- optional manual combat - if you are not satisfied what the colonists do or want to micromanage a bit, it is possible
- lots of QoL features
- the strategic map is an important and well integrated feature
- looting is key :)
Im really looking forward to the DLC coming out soon.
Sorry flat play, just not me after 30 mins gave up more of a poor mobile game. Graphics boring.
Really good so far. Haven't progressed much yet but this title is a well fleshed out colony sim with good controls, UI, tutorial, and even a built in wiki. The setting is really interesting and it has z-levels unlike Rimworld. Recommended!
Very fun game. After I finished it i just wished there was more. Hit my rimworld itch hard.
I really like this game. If you like Rimworld, then give After the Collapse a chance.
This is Rimworld for people who think Rimworld is too easy.
Very unforgiving but enjoyable. Mostly.
I have played the "Story Mode" of this game several times in the past several months; it's always an enjoyable experience, and after several play-throughs I am finally learning the fine points of how to survive while progressing towards a goal. I have played some of the scenarios also, and the free-form sandbox mode a couple of times, but find the "Story Mode" to be the most enjoyable -- even though a couple of the scenarios are extremely challenging.
It is a bit of a low budget rimworld, more focused on moving and rebuilding.
I wanted to like this game, it has z levels, some good economic depth but it's flawed in many cases.
Some things i observed
Combat is abit lackluster, there is no cover or ai intelligence for your pawns, they just stand and shoot or melee attack.
Majority of animals seem to be on the same side.
According to this game wheat is only useful for animals.. last i checked wheat makes flour and great bread.
Traders appear in a vehicle but have no personality, they don't get out or check the area, just static.
Making mashed potato from potatos literally produces 1 meal despite alot of time to do so, i guess the developer needs to make mash in real life to see that's not the case.
Cows apparently don't produce milk, go figure.
No medical system, just health, which is very disappointing.
Pawns simply feel like they have no persona or real intelligence, something we've all come to expect from games like rimworld.
Things i do like?
Diverse creature roster
Z levels for underground ( something rimworld should have added )
i love the story mode, the gameplay is gripping. one can easily lose track of time playing it. theres a few criticisms i have but they are minor. like not being able to wipe an enemy HQ (that is spread too thin) out when they hold territory, despite them being able to attack yours direct when you have territory, and a few other UI/gameplay things that are very minor. they are easy to work around or adapt to. its like rimworld without all the wackiness for wackiness sake. overall i give it 8/10.
Fun colony sim with a fair amount of variety and customizability. It has a completed story that includes VA! Noice
