The foundation of the game seems promising and potentially even fun. But the game is ridiculously difficult and is evident that the only reason for this difficulty is to push you towards their micro-transaction system. At which point, this game is essentially pay to win. Or if you're trying to avoid contributing to this ponzi scheme, you instead have to pay with endless amount of hours. This is ridiculous.

No cloud saves for a game that you can spend money on is actually crazy, say goodbye to your money if you ever uninstall the game

The frustrations of playing NBA Playgrounds 2 outweigh the joys. I tried to enjoy this game and believed it could be a continuation (on some level) of NBA Jam and Hangtime, but this game has some problems and the overall experience tends to be distressing. The main issue, among the many that I could mention, is that the game is not well-balanced in terms of difficulty level.

Some internet forums make the same comments, because this is very clear. The difficulty level is extremely unfair and in situations, final moments, in decisive matches, the opponents acquire higher levels of skill (difficulty) and it becomes impossible to have a moment of fun in the game. This happens even on the lowest difficulties, giving a feeling of artificial difficulty, which completely ruins the experience of a game that could be fun.

As frustrações ao jogar NBA Playgrounds 2 superam as alegrias. Tentei gostar desse jogo e acreditei que poderia ser uma continuidade (em algum nível) a NBA Jam e Hangtime, mas esse jogo tem alguns problemas e a experiência geral tende a ser angustiante. A principal questão, dentre as várias que eu poderia citar, é que o jogo não é bem dosado em relação ao nível de dificuldade.

Alguns fóruns da internet fazem os mesmos comentários, porque é muito claro isso. O nível de dificuldade é extremamente injusto e em situações, momentos finais, nas partidas de decisão, os adversários adquirem níveis mais elevados de habilidade (dificuldade) e se torna impossível ter um momento de diversão no jogo. Isso acontece mesmo nas dificuldades mais baixas, passando uma sensação de uma dificuldade artificial, e que atrapalha completamente a experiência de um jogo que poderia ser divertido.

Its good but my online servers will not work, it says that i have to agree with the policy even though i have already done that.

I paid 7 dollars for this game, and honestly, it feels like a complete waste of money—definitely not worth even a single dollar. The game operates in a way reminiscent of a casino, intentionally designed to frustrate players and entice them to spend real money on in-game currency. This currency is necessary to unlock significant portions of the game’s content, which is frustratingly restricted.

If you choose not to spend additional money, you’re faced with the gruelling task of grinding through endless hours of gameplay, and even then, you might only manage to unlock about 20% of the total game content. This lack of accessibility and enjoyment makes the entire experience feel unbalanced and exploitative. Ultimately, I would strongly advise against investing in this game, as it simply isn’t worth the time or money.

FYI, I played this game on the Nintendo Switch several years ago and logged many hours of gameplay. Unfortunately, I was unable to unlock most of the characters. It was incredibly frustrating, especially since I had paid full price for the game, only to find that most of it was locked. You start with only about 10 players available.

For some reason, I decided to download it on Steam so I could play it on my ROG Ally X.
I completely forgot how annoying it was that the game focuses heavily on microtransactions. Eventually, I gave up on this game because of that. We all must stop paying for these types of games once and for all, I will ask for a refund even for that 7 dollars.

this is a modern take on the NBA Jam formula.
yes, the game is grindy, but unlocking the characters is a foundation for a progression feeling.
the biggest issue with the game is a lack of cloud saves.

Probably better with a controller but very mid on mouse and keyboard.

Do not support games like this one who want to charge you micro-transactions for single player content. Refund requested immediately upon finding out.

Online play is gone, but its just a simply addictive time-waster. Easy mechanics to learn, tough to master. Fast paced and local play is smooth. Worth a couple bucks on sale. Grin out a season and 3-point contest to unlock cards pretty quickly.

Fun game, fun modes and maps, fun to level up different players, but gets boring after a while.

+ Graphics, animations are very nice
+ Players have distinctive caricatural faces

- Play by play commentary is repetitive
- Gameplay is boring, soulless and devoid of any flair or personality
- You start the game by opening a couple of players packs.... and those are the only available players for quite some time...
- ....and you'll need to grind the rest (or pay)
- Unlocking some legends (like Jordan) appears to require ungodly amounts of extra grinding.


Expected a modern time recreation of NBA Jam, got a lousy P2W soulless grindfest that could only come from 2K.

SO UNREALISTIC! And I love it. Good, chill arcade style basketball. Its a real fat bummer that you cant complete any of the daily changes now that the game is pretty much sidelined. So, if you want to unlock any of the swag or court editor pieces, you are going to have to pay... probably a lot. Luckily you can still unlock all of the players.

Obnoxious grinding for a game where the devs didn't care enough to implement cloud saves? Yes, it's a modern take on NBA Jam and gameplay wise it's fine, but the grind to unlock players is really obnoxious, and paying to unlock the roster in a game I already paid for... is very much a summary of gaming nowadays, but still doesn't make it OK. Now I want to follow the season I started on a Deck on my desktop and the only way is to faff about copying save files manually... The game feels very player-hostile in so many aspects and I don't want to reward that by encouraging others to play it.

Bottom line, if you really want your NBA Jam in 2024 and you get it dirt-cheap you could do worse, but know what you are getting into.
