A classic work that many games will likely reference.
The protagonist's limited combat abilities give off a horror atmosphere.
The balance of the puzzles is just right, not too difficult.
The game was originally released for the 3DS, so dual-screen display is unthinkable in games these days, but it's a good game.
Mom can we have clock tower ?
No there is clock tower at home
Clock tower at home :
I really enjoy my time with this game actually, it's a short game with exploration and multiple ending. Sadly the port is really bare bones, they don't even bother change how the screen look.
Women who are scared of and scream over everything? Check
Men who feel no fear and their Asian fetishization is seen as just a 'wacky endearing' trait? Check
Ew.
This game is a nice throwback to the original Clock Tower game, from the multiple endings, vague plot, hiding mechanic, although it fell short in catching up to all the former's aspects, but in the general essence it's done a mostly good job.
When comparing to the original Clock Tower, which has a lot of creative usages in the hiding mechanic where you could actually fend off the villain, the game's hiding mechanic is extremely barebone, with an even lazier single frame hiding animation, but for the other aspects the game did a competence job for a very low budget title, the sounds design and especially the musics are greats, and create a capable tension, the graphic style for a side-scroller is well-done and charming to look at even if simplistic.
The plot is barebone, with nothing really explained but you did get some bit and pieces to pierce together an interpretation, though when compared to Clock Tower is pretty uninteresting and uninspiring, though at least it does its job for a simple horror game.
Overall, this is a decent love-letter to the original Clock Tower game, that I'm confident that anyone that is a fan of would be able to get enjoyment out of it, and for the already low price especially when on sale, it definitely worth getting.
This is not a BAD 3DS port, it's just WEIRD. The developers haven't been able to adapt the interface to the PC, so the game looks the way it looks (you can go through the game without any problems, even on the big screen). This is a VERY casual «Clock Tower» and takes only 3 hours to complete (on one of the four endings). The locations are pretty small, like the events themselves, so subsequent playthroughs are unlikely to take longer. This modest survival horror is an expected low-budget game, but with a pleasant stylization and not that bad atmosphere. Don't expect something ultra epic and you'll have fun.
I like the game so far, everything is fine when I shifted to control the character with the D-Pad and using the Analog to select items in the menu, the UI for the items and the lower menu is a tad jank as every time I pick up and item it just shifts to whatever section of the item I pick (consumable, doc, keys) and I have to navigate back to the map to keep the map on, I recommend the game for clock tower hard core players like my self, Bob is a chad, but creepy, still a chad...but creepy.
its a great succesor to Clock Tower ish game but just go play it on the 3DS or a 3ds emulator, the game literally isnt made to be played on a PC, this is literally a BAD PORT, i really want people to support this game i really do but i really cant recommended it on Steam
On 3DS 8.5/10
On PC 2/10
Creeping Terror is an okay horror, clock tower like game, so what is the story.
Arisa, Emily, Bob and Ken, four good friends wanting to explore an old abandoned mansion and shoot a video about the sighting of a monster around there area get more then they bargain for when Arisa gets separated from the group.
Now it's up to her to not just find her friends and escape, she and the rest of them must stay alive, but she is not alone as her and her friends find out the truth about the mysterious monster.
So let’s talk about the likes, well the art style was nice and the levels were fun to explore. The atmosphere in the game was nice and spooky. The story was okay even if it was kind of predictable; the four endings you can get were nice.
The stalkers were pretty good, the shovel monster probably being the best in looks and intimidation.
But the two best things were, one: The music was very good especially the music when facing the shovel monster for the last time and the ending song. Two: The notes in the game were good and interesting.
So let’s talk about the dislikes, well to start you see this game was a Nintendo 3DS game and well when you play the game in full screen the game acts like its being played on a 3DS, sorry if I am not explaining it right, you will get it if you play the game or see a walkthrough.
The game is all so very short, you can probably beat the game in 2 or 3 hours if you're not going after achievements. And there was also this weird bug in the game where I started the game up only for no sound to appear, I checked on my connections but they were all working.
So when I closed the game and started it up again it worked. And lastly the game was not really that scary, I mean the first time it was a little bit scary, but after playing it again it wasn't all that scary.
So with all out of the way, Creeping Terror is an okay horror, clock tower like game. With a nice and spooky atmosphere, nice levels and very good music and good and interesting notes. So if you’re looking for a clock tower like game this maybe for you.
Its not a bad game but has a very SNES feel to it. It isn't scary for anyone that regularly plays horror games and the mechanics of the game get old. The story isn't anything special but this game killed a few hours during the covid-19 quarantine so eh, it did its job.
Bad port for an average game. The game itself is just a generic "survival" horror in which you can't hurt enemies but only avoid them. The fact is, outrunning enemies is just way too easy, even if they grab you you can just mash the A button to avoid getting killed and keep running. There's a room always restoring your health fully and your cell phone battery (which is pretty much useless considering the purpose of the light is just to avoid falling to the ground thanks to some rocks which can slow you down, but even if you fall you can still outrun any enemy), there are healing items every two steps, the game itself is very linear, lacking any kind of puzzle (you just need to explore, finding some keys to use on some doors and repeat).
What is really bad about the game is the port itself, which was released with zero effort on it. You have two small screens, the upper one showing the game, the lower one your inventory...which was ok for a Nintendo DS game, but it's totally useless on PC, the image is always so small, the resolution is bad and no proper work was done to do an HD port of the game.
Finally, the whole thing is very short, it took me a couple of hours to do a full, first run of the game, I got the B ending along with all files and I'm simply not interested in the other three endings.
Creeping Terror is a 2D survival horror game made for 3DS which explains the two seperated screen when you play it on windows. The game is very casual geared with basic game features like hiding and running. It is overall pretty generic, but it looks and sounds pretty decent. Some voice acting would make this game more immersive imo. The best thing is the skip feature when you want to unlock the other endings :)
The good:
-Its cheap, really cheap when on sale
-Multiple endings
-Lots of files to collect
-Only a few hours long so doesn't overstay its welcome
The bad:
-Controls can be a little slow to respond at times
-The story is only really fleshed out through the files so its quite important to try to actively collect them all
I played using an Xbox One controller and didn't have any issues with controls and the second screen like others did,
It's definitely worth playing if you're a fan of clocktower / RPG maker horror games.
While i enjoyed the roughly 30 Minutes of Gameplay i had, in the end i requested my Refund for this Game.
Mainly because it felt like playing a 3DS Game on an Emulator. Which in the End was just exactly that.
For myself i figured i get a better experience by playing it on the Console it was intented to: the 3DS.
The Game itself gives of a good creepy atmoshphere and im looking forward to it playing it when my Copy arrives.
I for myself cant recommend the Game as it is for PC.
Yikes, no. There's a persistent 2nd screen that takes up half the screen real estate and does nothing and never changes. It's filled with 18 tons of visual-novel-style "characterization" that is just horribly-written inane babbling. The game is supposed to be spooky but the dialogue box is constantly making beeping and booping noises at you, completely killing any possibility of creepiness. I got this for half price and am returning it.
You play the role of a school girl turned electrician while fumbling around in the dark and barely looking up from your map screen, except to count which exit you're taking, in this water downed Clock tower clone.
Sometimes, a dog, robed man or a tentacle rid shovel wielding miner chases you and you either chuck shit at them, hide or blatantly run into them then slam the A button because they're blocking your path and you can't be fucked backtracking.
Multiple endings exist that do nothing to help the clichéd and unclear narrative.
But I love this shit, so will keep playing in 30 min stints until I can figure out how to unlock 100% notes achievement. (After clocking this game I'd recommend using a walkthrough to unlock the addditional endings as it was ridiculously bu££$hit and unfair to find.)
Not a bad port, but not a good one. Slight jarring and freezing at times on my PC. The invetory is awkward as fu(k to use, obviously intended for the Nintendo DS stylus. Five twelths of the screen is used for map, inventory (so on and so forht), five twelths of the screen for navigating your character through the maze and two twelths of the screen is reserved for black bars that hold no purpose.
Why the fuck does anyone need to crouch or sneak in this game ever?
i have emulators on my raspberry pi that emulate DS games better than this shit payed version of a game.
So where is the point in paying for it? Really, there was no effort put into it at all.
Then now to the game. It's bullshit.
When constantly running away from the "monsters" becomes annoying instead of frightening you missed the point.
And the end is just a bullshit marathon trial and error party.
I stopped and simply watched the ending on Youtube instead of wasting my time with this crap.
It's telling when you finish a game and the first thing you think after beating it is: "Ahh Finally!" A thought that I couldn't help having after crossing the metaphorical finish line of Creeping Terror's story, and honestly I don't even know why I bought this game looking now at the screenshots. What is CLEARLY a 3DS port, Creeping Terror is also a mediocre at best survival horror game that does nothing new and nothing well.
I take most issue with the port job here, a 3DS title lazily adapted to "run" on a PC at the resolution of a 3DS. What was even the point of porting it to PC if PC players can expect the same visuals that a handheld system can render? There is a point at the end when you and your friends are escaping and a cutscene is playing, and since the bottom screen isn't needed anymore it disappears and makes room for the top screen, the top screen then almost fills my monitor and I'm left thinking: "Why couldn't it have been like this the whole game?" You push "C" to open your inventory and that pauses the action, the inventory screen could just take over until you exit out. But no, instead we get a tiny resolution screen of the characters and exploration bits up top. and the inventory that can't be manipulated until it's "opened" on an even smaller resolution screen on the bottom. The moment to moment gameplay is also underwhelming, as, after the first 20 minutes or so, you have played the whole game. Walk around and find where the next story part is, run away and hide while being chased sometimes, turn your flashlight on while running to avoid falling over, find keys to open doors, and mash "enter" when caught to not die. Do that for 2 hours and you win! A kiddy pool is shallow, Creeping Terror is paper thin.
I won't rag on the visuals of this game too much as it appears to have been done on a budget, but the characters look like they've been animated in flash and move very stilted. I do enjoy making Arisa, our protagonist, trip on rocks over and over again. Mostly because she lands face first and doesn't brace herself with her arms at all, I also take no damage if I'm not being chased, Maybe I'm a sadist but I found it stupid funny. The story could best be described as "standard" as far as survival horror goes, some cues seem to have been taken from the old Clocktower games but this doesn't have anything I could get invested in.
If you really want to play this buy it for 3DS, the Steam port is pointless don't play it here.
Enter the world of boredom
Survival horror shouldn't be that hard to replicate: item management, clever map design, challenging enemies, scary stuff. Creeping Terror fails at all of that. Controlling protagonist Arisa you explore a creepy mansion and an adjacent abandoned hospital while discovering their backstory, and also being chased by a guy with a shovel, a woman with a chandelier, and a dog. Where do I start... how about that every map is composed of straight lines? How about that all characters (including the villains) have zero development, resulting in zero empathy for them? How about that the enemy encounters are boring and just pad out the game's hour and a half of actual progress into 3 fucking hours of running around and cheesing enemies by hiding right in front of their noses? How about that all of the documents you find are your standard "I'm scared/I discovered this 101"? How about that the game has no puzzles whatsoever, having you run around just to find keys and more keys? And you'd be forgiven for thinking the devs just compiled emulated 3DS code and passed it for a PC version (at least it runs fine).
The game even has the gull to have 4 endings. But guess what, the game doesn't make it clear when you have to make the branching choices that lead to the different endings (there are 3), because when the moment comes the objective text on the screen funnels you towards ending A (the happy ending).
Mediocrity is hard to appreciate, but Creeping Terror almost makes a compelling case for it: there's nothing inherently wrong with it. It works. And you should stay the fuck away from it.
The game is decent, I enjoy my time playing it. The game doesn't contain any real puzzle or complex hiding mechanics, and the plot itself is kind of like a B-Movie horror, if that turns you off then I say stay away. But if you want to enjoy something short, and a horror game kinda similar to Clock Tower then maybe you'll enjoy it too.... maybe.
I'm really enjoying the game so far. It's a side scrolling, horror game, with clock toweresque hiding mechanics. Its a port from a 3DS game, so you will have a whole window showcasing both your image screen and the bottom options/inv screens. But I could easily get past all that, simply because i didnt wanna play on my 3DS. You will have to expand your window size, to fit your screen, but for those who are use to pixel horror games, or pixel games in general on steam, this will be no problem to do. I picked up this game, bc i love everything to do with surivival horror and so far, its great! Will edit my review again, once completed, if I find anything glaring. \o/
