More than a century after the bombs fell, you’re fighting a losing battle to keep your beloved Arizona alive. Then the self-proclaimed Patriarch of Colorado radios, promising aid if you'll do a job he can only entrust to an outsider—rescue his land from the ambitions of his three bloodthirsty children.

Killed some kids, fucked a goat, all in the first couple of hours of gameplay. 10/10
This game rocks! I loved the writing, the sense of humor, the plot, the style...so much about this game is great. Probably the best turn-based tactical game I've played in a long while.
While there were some bugs, it should not deter anybody from playing this game.
Please, please, please...make a Wasteland 4.
I like the Wasteland series. And I have enjoyed Wasteland 3 for 50 hours now and I still seem to be far away from the end of the main quest. HOWEVER, I realized that the game does not seem to be supported anymore, even though there are bugs that affect the gameplay (e.g. random encounters). So far, the bugs limit the experience, but are not game breaking. Bur, it is a shame that inXile has abandoned the support for a fun game although there are known bugs and, nevertheless, continues selling it for 33.99€ (!). So, you can buy it during a sale and have fun with it, but with certain limitations.
This game is almost great. I like the mood and the style, but the game just isn't done. I had to re-load and re-do several missions because of some quest bug, or softlock. Today I encountered yet another, and with that my, my time with this game is over.
it's such a shame. At its core, it's a good game. So if you're willing to accept the bugs or research workarounds: go for it. But I cannot in good faith reccomend it.
This game is now an event for me that I cherish and vibe out to like a movie you could watch again and again. I come back every few years and take my time to really explore every inch in a new way and I always see something new. And damn the music is good as the game play!
Absolutely amazing game. Good combat, interesting characters, and the greatest game soundtrack ever. My only real issue is the lack of fast travel and the many glitches in the game.
This game is fun, story is good, the game play is great, choice making maters, overall a good experience.
The wintery stormy setting gets old, much prefer the Cali/Arizona region. But game is gud.
This is my favorite turn based game of all time. The fun surprises throughout are perfect. I keep coming back to this game.
Game breaking bug that completely emptied mission log - appears to be an issue for others as well
This game is fucking infuriating! About 20 hours into this game the mission log cleared and is now completely empty, as if I made no progress. The NPCs who have given me missions are acting like they’ve never seen me, and if I’ve completed the quests they are trying to give me them again. And apparently my game can’t be fixed. This is unbelievable! Uninstalling because fuck this!
This game is much like the earlier Fallout classics, but with a more fleshed out and satisfying combat. It can be buggy at times but generally speaking it works well on pretty much any machine I played it on. The humor is a highlight of this game.
The characters in the game are fleshed out and feel real, with their quirks and stances. The story is satisfying and had me second guessing my choices consistently till the very end. The focus on combat can be somewhat daunting and the battles in the beginning can drag on for way too long, but even on the hard difficulty, 90% of the ending fights are just total wipes.
The progression system is nice, but the game gives you too much loot which you can sell, you will never be out of money or out of bullets. You can build good min-maxing characters which will be useful almost all of the time, the trick is to build a well rounded team, where each character specializes in a combat skill and 2 non-combat skills.
All in all, a decently fun experience. Would run through it again on the hardest difficulty and different party members.
Love that game, really. It reminds me of Fallout Tactics, with better graphics.
Great Story, Great combat, Great Choices. Cant ask for much more then that.
So, overall I recommend the guy (on sale). About a 6.5 out of 10.
But it's a buggy mess at times.
I played the second to hardest difficulty and this is my first real Wasteland game. I've played tactical games like XCOM and XCOM 2, as well as RPGs like Baldur's Gate 3 and Tyranny.
Wasteland 3's RPG aspects were pretty good. I enjoyed the story missions, though it felt weird some of the companions had important quests, but others didn't (unless I somehow missed them). It also felt a bit anti-climatic that you can end the whole final fight with two skill checks you've already likely gotten to max much earlier in the game. I did feel like I just wanted to finish the run about 30 hours in (the hours are likely inflated by me having to leave suddenly with the game open sometimes). The dialogue didn't censor stuff or take itself too seriously, sometimes to its detriment. Some interesting 4th wall breaking though. I'm sure some of the throwback references to Wasteland 1 and 2 were lost on me.
The DLC has two stories; Holy Detonation and Steeltown. I much preferred Steeltown's premise and mechanics, as well as its story over that of Holy Detonation. Steeltown's robots and union vs. bosses vs. safety was an interesting premise. Holy Detonation's story just didn't really do much for me, and the mechanic was very annoying.
Both DLCs have endless spawns in some battles (which you can and probably should use, at least a bit) where you can keep killing the enemy and get experience. The Steeltown ones were good as they'd spawn two robots per spawn, which were able to be shut down as well as hacked as well as killed easily with an energy weapon brawler. Holy Detonation's spawns were numerous and couldn't be shut off until the end of the fight and the enemies were quite tanky + powerful. As mentioned later, I literally don't think I could have finished them without my army of pets and companions.
The combat felt like a slog or just way overtuned. I tried amassing armor to prevent damage, but honestly it felt like a toss up as to whether my guys would get downed from one attack or not. Enemy gunners seemed to ignore cover more than I'd expect based off games like XCOM, and later gunners had elemental weapons, which ignore armor 100%. Some scripted fights I'd have to reload and have 5 of my 6 rangers outside behind walls because the enemy was guaranteed to start first.
Melee units were also weird. The brawler Ranger really pops off if you get Brawling 10 and find a good 2 AP fist. Enemy melee units seemed to attack a million times and have unlimited movement speed, even if I slowed them.
With the enemies being so strong, and rangers somewhat being glass cannons (but not as powerful as cannons), honestly the only way I could finish the game was grabbing a menagerie of animals. It slows down the turns tremendously, but wow they had double to 5 times the hp of my rangers, plus more damage, and more attacks, as well as always having movement range to attack at least once.
I was disappointed there weren't more CC methods. Slow didn't do much, and stun seemed rare. The precision strike on assault rifles, snipers, and pistols was interesting to adapt your attacks to the situation, but felt more of a tacked-on feature, than a main one.
Combat overall didn't feel as tactical as other games, just heads up.
Modding weapons and armor was nice to help fit your builds, but the mods you could craft required a base mod that you could only buy. For example, to create "quick-action mag," I'd need some mags I could create, but those mags required a "long mag" which could only randomly be found, either through shops stocking them or praying for a field strip item to spawn one (breaking weapons down).
Speaking of inventory, while there are some ways to sort it, I really wish there was a search function or a more detailed sorting. There's no sorting by "most recent," or by specific weapons/armor. Mostly for weapons, I just wanted to find a sniper rifle, but I'd have to scroll until I found the sniper section. Just some annoying, but not life-ending issues.
A more critical aspect of inventory management, "sell junk" (selling unwanted stuff labeled as "junk") was really nice! Until I learned that some of the "mystery items" (more just novelty items, but tied to an achievement) were tagged as junk, so I accidentally sold them. And they can be limited, like pig skin. If you've killed all the pigs before realizing this, you can't build that item for this run.
Also, despite being out for years, this game still has quite a few bugs.
1. Hacking a robot creates a field of energy that damages "enemies" around them. For some reason, this counts your pets/companions as enemies! And the pets/companions can't be controlled, so sometimes they do weird things like running back and forth. I've had goats (the best pet) run back and forth through a field, killing themselves. And unlike rangers, dead pets don't respawn/can't be revived.
2. Sometimes items disappeared from my inventory/weapons. I used my precious "quick-action mag," which I only got 2 of in the entire run on a unique heavy gun. The guy using it left the party due to story shenanigans, giving me back everything. But the mod was gone and not in my inventory. Instead of attacking twice per turn, he could now only attack once.
3. A couple of chest bugs which would require me to restart the game (not just reload) because I couldn't select anything.
4. Some of the quests are wonky where despite having completed the requirements, it doesn't let you choose the right option.
I think those were the main ones, but any reddit checks can find many posts complaining about bugs and cut content.
Final criticisms - I really felt annoyed at the overworld travelling. It was interesting at first, but the car was so slow until you could find upgrades, and there's no fast travel besides back to Ranger HQ. Based off the descriptions, I was expecting the car to be the HQ or the HQ and car being highly and meaningfully customizable, but they were not really. The ranger HQ actually didn't matter much in the end, in my opinion.
I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff as I rushed to finish the game, but overall I'd give it a 6.5. It was enjoyable story-wise, the combat could be fun (though unreliable), and the graphics were nice. The choices in the story really made the bulk of the game, where it was rarely "good guy ending." I normally play the full 100% Good Guy runs because Bad Guy runs feel bad, but there were some consequences to that in this game.
There are quite a few endings from my understanding, but I don't think I'll play them anytime soon.
I recommend waiting for a sale to buy the full edition.
This game is sooooo much fun early on. There is a part at the beginning where you have to run by a enemy, that literally made me quit for over a year. But, after I figured that part out, it became addicting. It has tons of personality, and the adult feeling isn't cheezy at all. Surprised they haven't made sequels recently. If they do, I hope it stays overhead 2D. There is enough 3D shooters out there already.
Get the game WITHOUT DLC's
Base game is great, but the DLCs are actually 'fun-breakers'. I bought entire package of game and all DLCs, in game, they are not 'shown' as DLC - they show like every other side quest. I wish i knew what i was getting in before i started.
Both DLCs are just annoying choires - their stories are amazing and great, but they try to forcefully push in new mechanics that DO NOT improve the game. The opposite really. I managed to push through - accent on push through - Cult of the atom, then started dooing steeltown, and it was actually what 'broke me' - i alt-f4 game mid doing it. I might drop game here, maybe delete save and return to the game with fresh head in few days, possible from new save. Deleting my level 25 team 'hurts', but this game's DLCs hurt much more.
Wasteland 3 is solid 8.5-9.5/10 game
DLCs are 4/10 each, and only becuase of leading story, which was still burried 6 feed under 'everything else' that those DLCs offered
RPG elements are breathtakingly good. Game is hard; do not expect a forgiving experience especially if you challenge yourself with the hardest difficulty. You need to calculate everything; from resources to survivability. From combat power to utilities and sustaining your HQ. Amazing lore and gamer friendly script. Just buy it.
Its a pretty good game with x-com style combat then why didnt i recommend it. its because of the bugs, from not being able to save to enemy models disappearing to skill points disappearing and much more. i can still recommend the game if you get it at an heavy discount
What I love about the game:
- Music! In certain battles you'll get to enjoy some of the best songs in a game.
- Graphics is decent
- Battle is usually challenging
- I love the Attributes-Skills-Perk system.
- The various factions of maniacs... Godfishers, Scar Collectors, etc. They certainly add a lot of colors to the game.
- Weapons and Armors... Looks great and feel even better on the battlefield.
What I'd like to see improvements on:
- Rangers HQ. It is designed in a way that I never felt I "own" the place. Random generic rangers just keep joining my HQ after certain story advancements and they don't do no shite whatsoever. And don't get me started at the refugees.
- Still Ranger HQ. So much space available and yet not put into good use. You can't decided what the areas are for, etc. Overall it is fair to say you can play the whole game without your HQ and it will have little impact to the game as a whole.
- Both Squad and Unique NPCs. For unique NPCs, there ain't enough depth for those who join your squad. Would love to see more storyline specifically created for them.
- Reputation system with various "factions". Didn't really have much impact on the game and there aren't really much you could do to improve/deteriorate it.
- Pets... You can't arm them so....
Overall:
- I like the game but it left me feeling it could have been so much more after finishing the game first time.
- There's certainly replay value and I have no doubt I will come back to it again in a few months or perhaps years.
- I never love the game as much as I did with the early Fallout series, or FFT, Tactics Ogre or Fell Seal.
- Overall it is easily 30-50 hours of fun with a good story and you should get it with or without sale.
Genuinely one of the best games I've ever played. (Keep in mind I haven't played Wasteland 1 or 2) and I would've never expected me to actually play a top down turn based and fully play it through let alone more than once. The storytelling, lore and world building, unique twist on post-apocalyptic America was interesting. The soundtrack is phenomenal, I immediately went to Apple Music to put "Blood of the Lamb" the second that first boss battle is over. Everything top to bottom about this game was awesome, and I couldn't have spent a better 85+ hours of my life playing anything else. THANK YOU FOR THIS GAME INXILE!!! <3
Wasteland 1 was one of the inspirations for Fallout, but in spite of that its revivals feel a lot like "Fallout, but with fewer ideas." That's Wasteland 3's biggest problem: weak identity. It's all good from there, however. This is an extremely solid CRPG with interesting combat, good systems, and a ton of reactivity. If it had a more solid 'hook' it could stand with the classics of the genre. Instead it will have to settle for being very good but not particularly memorable.
I LOVE this game. Hits my many needs in a game. Customizable characters. Choices that impact story and characters. Base improvement. Character improvement. Animal companions. XCOM-style tactics. Open World resource collection and interesting side quests. Unique story that has made me ask myself questions about my beliefs. Huge Fan. Going to buy and play the first two now that I'm hooked on Wasteland 3!
Had a ton of fun, it has 2 timed quests at the start don't ever do that again but 9/10 had a lot of fun lol.
More buggy than i remember, but other than that, one of the best rpgs ever created.
Very few games can keep me so consistently hooked for over 50 hours as Wasteland 3 can. Many other titles start to dwindle in the latter portion of games but the progression and loot systems mean that I am continually well equipped at the right time for those harder fights. Great game.
i think i would play as many wasteland as they possibly will produce, i wish any triple A comp would know how to male Tbased games like this, amazing game good story hard choices what actually matters, amazing music great VA, and ofc god bless president Ronald Reagan(amen)
Great game but currently bugged with robot encounters in the world map. Can kill the robots but wont start the fight. Very buggy
This game is so good my friend! The customization of characters and the choices portrayed in the game are top notch. The story line is good and combat feels smooth, and it definitely goes in my top 15 games of all time. Relax and enjoy a master piece well worth buying if you have time to play!
Played this game a when it came out on gamepass, decided why not replay it since so many patches and DLCs came out. Game is a masterpiece. If you liked Baldurs Gate 3 but got bored of fantasy and overly complicated D&D elements, play this game, you'll love it.
I'll admit I started Wasteland 2 but never got around to finishing it what did it for me was the fact I played Wasteland 3 with a friend and it was a blast.
Sure the story at times is clunky and really outcomes here and there are really binary esp. if you're trying to do your best for both Colorado and Arizon but we enjoyed it.
I'd love another game with coop options, better polish.
Why I mention polish is because I had issues that running on 4090 at 4K after being long enough in inventory my game would start lagging out like crazy, only way to clear it would be tabbing out but even that would be a temp fix and get cumulatively worse.
Anyway TL;DR solid RPG Story Game, especillay great when you can play it with a friend. I think by now it's fairly well priced too so just grab it.
Great game. Took me a while to get into it, as I'm not usually into playing this kind of games, but ended up loving it. The soundtrack and characters are great, and there's some funny, random encounters you see whilst travelling around Colorado. One of those games I don't actually mind achievement hunting or maybe completing 100%, even if it's a bit lengthy process.
Great turn based game with lots of options on how to resolve the problem/missions.
I like how each outcome has lasting consequences in the world, this is always a plus for me. It makes me want play the game again and again to try different options.
Plenty of different type of weapons and skills. I didnt play the previous games in the series, yet had lots of fun!
One of the best CRPG's ever made. This is a game that has a sense of humour, isn't politically correct, knows exactly what it is and has carved it's own unique place in gaming history. Clearly a labour of love, the developers have managed to create something special here, the depth and detail in almost every aspect of this game is remarkable, of note is the voice acting which is outstanding across the board and really helps to give this game it's character. From the environmental story telling, to the crazy characters you meet, to the decisions you make (which have actual weight in the game) to the strategy and the unique quirkiness of it all. What's most impressive though is the replay-ability and mind numbing options you have to carve out your own unique game, if you can't eek out some fun here I don't know what to tell ya. This is a game for adults, if you have a snowflake disposition, go back to minecraft. Wasteland 3 is an epic game that doesn't hold it's punches, if you're a crpg fan don't be put off by it's greying hairline, you will love this, if you're not a crpg fan this might be the one to get you over the line.
I wish there was a mixed score. Parts are better than wasteland 2 and I love all the skill checks, but the game's major flaw is the combat. At first you think it is fun, before you realise there is something very wrong: It is turn based, but one team all has a go then the other team all has a go. This ruins any sense of tactics - you just kill everyone before they have a go. Game starts hard and quickly gets easy because of this. Plus the balance is wrong too, you level too fast really and thus you just kill people much faster. The game tries to answer this with bullet sponges, the typical answer of lazy devs. The rpg element is great, dialogue, skill checks etc, but the combat is lacking. If this had wasteland 2's combat, individual turn based, it would be great. It doesn't really deserve a negative score, but it is less than what came before in such an important area, dumbed down for "mass appeal" I guess. Pity. Would be great if someone modded out these flaws, but it hasn't happened yet.
Good game overall, worked as a great introduction to CRPG's with turn-based combat, and was more aesthetically pleasing than expected. The companions aren't as fleshed out as they could be and the combat tends to get tedious after a while, although it feels good initially. Also had a very barebones, uninspired depiction of Native American stand-in characters that doesn't deviate from the tired established "Wild West" adjacent setting, with the usual people in power that can't truly be changed in the game. Despite this I'd still recommend it as it's fun overall, especially as a simpler modern CRPG offering nice combat, a decent story, and a bit of decision making.
Great music, wacky shit going on, fun vehicle mechanics, giant golden robot raegan and tons of 80s cultural references. It's like they made the game with modern technology for an audience from 30 years ago.
For over a year now there has been a bug that makes it so you are soft locked in random encounters, and it has only been getting worse. Random encounters are a major source of experience and resources, this is making the game unplayable.
If you drop support for a game, at least make sure it is in a playable state.
It took me quite a while to finally finish this game, I've been playing it on and off for 2-3 years now. At no fault to the game, mind you. I just have too many games I want to play and occasionally when a new game I'm interested in comes out, I'll pause others I'm playing.
I had a lot of fun playing this game, I liked it so much more than Wasteland 2. I enjoyed WL2 also, but there was something about it that made me not really want to play it again. I honestly can't say why exactly, but this game made many improvements on it.
I've never really liked games that have you create a full custom party, I generally prefer to create one character for me to roleplay as, and then I like to have interesting companions that I can interact with. However, Wasteland 2 & 3 kinda' mitigates that issue by allowing you to recruit two unique companions outside the 4 Rangers you create, which is nice.
The story was fully voice acted, only lacking voices for the narrator. Which is nice, as sometime reading all the time can become cumbersome.
The last section of the game became a little rough at the end there, it felt like it had less reactivity and kinda' had a particular way you were supposed to go about finishing the area, but I apparently went out of sequence a little towards the end. Finding mission critical items and talking to characters saying things like I was looking for something specific when I didn't even have any clue yet as I hadn't interacted with the necessary NPC.
But all in all I really did like this game, the combat was fun and I ended up beating it on normal difficulty, which I never really do due to wanting to play on easy/story mode to make it go quicker. I guess I fancied a change. I did regret going for the normal difficulty towards the end there as enemies became more bullet spongy having 1000+ HP while the highest one of my Rangers had was around 500, and it felt like my armour meant nothing as they were one-two shooting some of my guys. Sometimes when enemies go first, I would have my entire squad wipe before even getting a turn, it could be quite frustrating.
I honestly don't know how you're supposed to win without having animal whisperer or gaining some of the unique animal and other companions via dialogue. They saved my bacon more than once. I had everyone in my party apart from one ranger have an animal companions and it was awesome seeing a group of like 12+ people moving around. It made me really want more games where if you have X amount of companions available, let them all be in the party at once.
A really enjoyable turned based RPG, with lots of freedom of choice and some really enjoyable combat. If you're a fan of games in the style of Rogue Trader or Baldur's Gate 3 then there's a good chance you'll enjoy this too.
Based on how buggy WL 2 is im just going to categorically thumbs down this game just to be a shit.
Travelling and trying to figure what to do next is a pain. I'd rather spend more time thinking about tactics and combat.
But, when all enemies have too many HPs for no reason it's just no fun to me.
you cant save the game no matter what you do
i bought the game and created my charcter. took me about 10 minutes.
then i played for 20 or so minutesw and opned the game to relload a save.
i couldnt
ok thats happen just open a guide and try to fix it
didnt work
tried a fresh save(you need to do the first fight each time before you could save)
didnt work
tried it again
nope
the game is excellent i played it before the update that messed up the saves and i love it but why do i need to pay to have a game with probles with SAVES?
There were some significant changes from Wasteland 2, most of which were needed. Didn't like that they got rid of initiative though, it made encounter outcomes VERY dependant on who went first. The story is pretty good, and its full of wacky NPCs that prevent the game from ever getting dull. Overall an excellent sequel and standalone game.
Extremely fun game. The combat is so addicting. The weapons are varied and the hidden ones are fun to find. However, brawling feels sluggish and shotguns don't hit has hard as pistols do. Snipers and melee weapons are insane. This game reminds me of X-COM but post-apocalyptic. The decisions you make in the game actually matter. Crafting is a nice touch. I like making more ammo or medical supplies. The issue I have is with crafting weapon attachments or armor mods. It feels disorganized. It takes me a while to figure out which one I should craft. The voice acting is superb. Every character feels unique. I kind of wish the custom characters had a little more personality. Overall, great game. Had a blast.
I would have liked a better end game and larger map. But overall, just a very nice game. We need a Wasteland 4...
In Wasteland, humor must come with horror in equal measure, and vice versa. The story never lets up on its commitment to showing you the personhood within an endless winter, the tough and wild souls who perservere despite the end of the world. Life is unbelievably brutal, and the only way to survive is to have a sense of humor.
The plot doesn't lore or exposition dump you, with 30 minute cut scenes to "immerse" you in a deep fantasy. You have three targets to grab, and you're expected to keep the peace. You can choose whatever way you wish to fulfull that mission. Or not, the game really doesn't care. Instead the fun is in the exploration. What kind of bizarre life will you find at the next site, what team configuration do you need to accomplish this task, what will you potentially not be able to do until later? The game trusts that you're an adult and can make your own decisions.
The turn based combat ups the stakes, you cant shoot blindly and hope the AI is dumb. It's like a game of chess; even late into the game if I get a one hit sniper kill I still punch the air. And it feels like there are still things I havent tried (after beating the game twice on a different system). An entirely weird science build. Robot followers. Cyborg build. I tend towards a heavy contingent of big machine gun toting women, but that's just me. I can't recommend this game enough, highly underrated.
I really liked this, i have not played any of the previous wastelands but i enjoyed it. Perks are a little bit annoying to allocate as 4 party members seems like a perfect balance and adding more makes them feel useless. The story is kinda cool but it has some pacing issues, a lot of the quests have moral dilemmas which typically look like they only have bad and worse outcomes. Companions are annoying outside of maybe one or two. I liked the x-com feel to the combat. The ending was anti-climactic but i overall enjoyed it and it has a fun world.
Wasteland 3 is an overall enjoyable experience, with its turn based tactical combat standing out as incredibly fun, However, it’s not without its flaws.
The game suffers from persistent technical issues during co-op, with frequent crashes and freezes. Be sure to save often if you plan to play multiplayer. I haven’t tried solo mode, so I can’t comment on that side of things.
The narrative is entertaining and straightforward, but it often underdelivers on its stakes. The game builds up characters only to offer minimal rewards. This tendency can diminish the impact of its storytelling. Additionally, the humor is hit or miss; some jokes work well while others drag on too long.
On the DLC front, Steeltown stands out as a well integrated and essential part of the story, while The Holy Glow should be skipped due to its unengaging plot and reliance on gimmicks, which break the momentum of the main game. It’s just bad, really save your money.
In summary, Wasteland 3 is a good game that delivers a fun, co-op combat experience, despite its technical issues and lack of fixes. Save often and enjoy the ride!
I loved this game more than I anticipated. Mind you, it was my first Wasteland, but typically I'd only played CRPGs like Baldur's Gate, you know, fantasy stuff with romance and deep NPC storyarchs (which I love), so I wasn't sure about this post-apocalyptic world, but it was a hoot! Loved Lucia Wesson and Kwon, loved the wackiness of things like the Bizare. I fucked up so many of my choices and had real consequences, and that was awesome. When's 4 coming out?
