What a terrible, buggy, awful mess of a game. I'm not even complaining about the combat here. This game was shipped with so many bugs and just plain terrible design choices I cannot fathom how this had such a good reception.
I love this game. I've played turn-based games for a very long time and I have to say the combat system is one of the best I've ever played. Normal level is pretty easy. Next time I play, it will have to be on the hardest setting.
The story is not quite right for role-playing. There are choices which are non-Rangerish.
You start off with two non-Ranger members of your squad - stay with those two for the best ending.
Toasters lead to more than toast.
Lockpicking, explosives, weird science, nerd, armor and weapon mods are very handy. Big guns if you want to use the BIG gun.
There are problems with the game. Several known bugs and a few issues with the UI that could have been better. Nothing I know of that would make it unplayable.
Read the book and boards. The mechanics of the game are a bit different from the norm in games. Not bad stuff, but the screen pup-ups when assigning points aren't always what you actually get.
It's basically an XCOM-y crpg with a dialogue and text rich story, lots of satire, camp, and a very explorable world.
My only gripes are 1.) that this game--and least in my experience--takes several tries before it really starts to shine. But once you understand the game's DNA the mechanics feel really intuitive, and the survival economy is fun to navigate. 2.) While choices matter and it's generally fun, this game can be kinda weird about giving you pretty binary choices for decisions that feel like they warrant more complexity.
It would have been nice to have more tooltips and things like that, because I often learn from the loading screen tips way too late into a save. Beyond that? Fantastic game. Hands down a blast.
Some minor complaints is that the game's performance can suddenly degrade and requires restarting the game, and the UI can be finicky in small but annoying ways.
I suspect there's a lot of replayability but I have yet to finish this game once. Highly recommend getting it on sale, but I think it's def worth full price, too!
overall i like the game, would be nice to have full controller support for ps4/ps5 controller given the game is released on those platform.
can still play with ps4/ps5 controller but need to use cable, which beat the whole purpose of wireless gig, can also use it wireless but then need to use steam controller input which use different command on screen (we use ps4 controller but on screen it shows A,B,X,Y prompt)
Solid turn-based game, but you have to get used to the specific humor inspired by '80s movies.
Detailed game play, lots of different choices in every play through. Im still finding new things every level of play.
If Fallout and Baldur's Gate had a love child, that prodigy would be Wasteland 3. This game is a great mix of role playing, character development, and tactical turn-based combat. The compelling story, voice acting, and music all help to create the virtual world of post-apocalyptic Colorado. Choices have real consequences which impact the outcome of the game and allow for a variety of replayability options.
Wasteland 3 is a classic. One of the most enjoyable games in this genera in recent years.
What can i say look at my hours played and it'll continue going up as i have been doing everything.
If you like post apoc, fallout, goofy humor, great mechanics, grinding, and just having a solid turn based experience then this is your game.
All Hail Brian Fargo the post apoc mastermind!
Game is fun but they need more ways to make money, and the barter system is not good.
Wasteland 3 is really enjoyable, offering a big variety of story choices that have serious consequences. The tactical, turn-based combat is exciting and makes you plan each move carefully. On top of that, the co-op integration works really well, making the game especially fun when playing with a friend. The deep story and great characters keep you interested from start to finish. If you enjoy challenging RPGs with plenty of ways to strategize, Wasteland 3 is definitely worth checking out.
As a fan of the original Wasteland who enjoyed the 2nd, I had picked the 3rd up on a Steam sale a few years back. Now that I'm retired I'm catching up on my Steam backlog and decided to start with an old favorite, besides I love post-apoc games like this. After 77 hours playing I'm at about level 14 (yes, I'm very slow) and just making some headway in the larger game world. The best news is unlike Wasteland 2, which had several significant bugs which was surprising since I had played it years after release, I haven't run into any game breaking bugs so far in the 3rd installment. I enjoy the turn based combat, and the game does a good job of making early decisions impactful on later gameplay., although game occasionally takes actions which don't quite make sense.
Spoiler alert: I decided to help the Gippers against the God-seekers, and go against the desires of both them and the Robot Commune by taking Ronnie back to the Ranger base. After I had nabbed Ronnie away, and disabled his defenses in the process, I was surprised when his giant statue began lasering enemies to death during the God-seekers attempted over-run of the Gipper base which shouldn't really have happened all things considered.
Anyways, the help was actually welcome as one feature I don't care for is the enemies in this game have far more hit points at every level than my team does, even those which have some higer con values. I'm battling level 7 God seekers with 700+ hitpoints while most of my team has under 200. This means I fight at range, and regret not leveling a 2nd sniper character as for some reason snipers do far more damage in their single shot than my heavy gunner does with equal skills.
Oh well, minor quibbles, I'm enjoying the game and hoping their one day will be a Wasteland 4 coming down the road.
Wasteland is a great game to play, but definitely lacking as an RPG experience.
The tone gives itself whiplash with the WACKY WILD WHOAOAOAOAA as a poor form of levity against the post-apocalyptic grim. Really wish it was a more focused and restrained itself with the comedy.
A truly amazing game and one of my all time favorites. Between gameplay, references, and hilarious dialogue Wasteland 3 is an absolute masterpiece.
While game itself is great and reminds me of classic Fallouts (music, characters, dialogues, easter eggs, etc), I can't recommend buying it on Steam because of the way DLC activation is implemented, it's simply horrible.
If your Internet connection is interrupted during gameplay - DLC quests will just silently disappear, costing you hours of progress and it breaks your save, not carrying over your DLC desicions to the main game, and questlines get restarted without the ability to actually complete it again. While looking up solutions I found threads dating back to 2021, it's 2025 now and the issue is still present and unfixed.
Avoid Steam version and buy it DRM-free on GOG if you have unstable internet connection.
Developers need to state on the store page that internet connection is a hard requirement for playing the DLCs, because otherwise your saves will get broken.
I love CRPG's but despite trying several times, I just couldn't get into this one and sadly had to take it off of my massive backlog.
Maybe it just has a slow start but I wasn't super interested in the story. The humor is kind of cringe most of the time. The graphics and UI in general are kind of ugly. The camera perspective makes me claustrophobic. The angle that the camera is at means you can't really see much in the environment. I know this is a CRPG style camera but something about this one feels very limited and restricting. Isometric camera has never bothered me in any other game like this.
The combat is sincerely lacking and simplistic. It feels like if you took X Com combat and paired it down to its absolute barest of bones. The Inventory system is just bad and also again pretty ugly to look at.
Everything about it feels very "budget".
I really did want to love this game which is why I gave it several attempts and if i ever run through all the other CRPGs that I want to get through I would consider giving it another chance several years down the road from now but as it stands I'm done with this one.
LOS does not apply to the NPC. No matter where you stand, they can hit you all the time. Back of a huge rock? Hiding behind a barrier where you have higher ground, it does not matter. They can hit you when you can't because of you got "Target is blocked"
I was initially skeptical about this game due to its steep learning curve and the numerous stats to manage. Unlike XCOM 2, the tactical gameplay here is less forgiving, as you can’t just rely on reloading autosaves. However, once I got past the learning curve, I thoroughly enjoyed the role-playing and tactical elements. If you’re a fan of RPGs and tactical turn-based games, I highly recommend picking this up, especially when it's on sale.
Great game. Got into it late and played with all DLCs and had a great time. The Story is Wonderful and equal or better to any of the main Fallout series. The combat is simple but fun. This is a solid game and wonderful experience to play. Highly recommend if you are a fan of cRPGs, Fallout, or just fun story.
It’s a good game. Mainly the RPG aspect of the game. Stories and decisions you need to make are really good. Compared to W2, where the first half was not the best, this game is more matured. Also there is one major improvement - unlimited inventory. No weight, endless inventory space. Now that is improving game immersion very much. Just imagine how much less time you spent with barter rounds and dropping stuff in objects. It allows for total focus on more important parts. At the same time the game is still balanced, misuse not included. But there are so many reviews writing about positive aspects.
Instead let me express my disappointments.
I start with the combat, let's call it mediocre. The AI is toasted, so much it hurts. You are thrown into various playgrounds of death. Where the game tries to taunt you into pressing on. Like in a horror movie, come into this room… what could go wrong? Then combat starts and all the various types of enemies like melee chargers, smg/ar stormers, heavy gunners and snipers will do you from all sides. So the game forces you to battle in unfavorable situations. That makes the most of the difficulty. All it takes is to not take the bait. Then you will smoothly dance thru all the battles and laugh at the clumsy AI. Like moths to a flame all enemies will come into your funnel of death. Your sniper will take out all the long range threats. One at a time (per turn) as usually there are 2, max 3 of them. Just like that, battles turn to a walk in the park. I played on Hard and only a few battles were hard.
Now let's talk about some blunders that are eating me from inside since games like Fallout 1,2 and F Tactics are not chic anymore. And that is the range. Why in the world, pistols, SMG or shotguns only shoot so far as one can spit? Why? So that you must make battle in some strange playgrounds of death? Just because it is easier to make games challenging in this way? Since when or why a sniper rifle that can shoot one KM away can barely shoot the distance of ¾ of screen? Why are modern games clipping our wings in this horrendous way? Also grenades. Can anyone recall how great they were in F Tactics against super mutants. I can still recall the beautiful trench battles against supermutants. You could lob grenades till you saw meat flying out. A sure way to know the enemy was dead. And when you opened a grenade box or looted said carcass you found 10 and more. Somehow here they seem like a waste of AP, ergo time. The HP of enemies is scaling up. But the DMG of grenades does not. They could rather do a percentage of your main weapon DMG. Even with bonus perks they are weak.
As you progress sellers will refresh only a few items from the shop's inventory. I did run out of lvl 6 armor modifications at the end. Why was this not covered in some tests and fixed? And I was driving around the map to stumble on traders, but they had only high lvl mods which I disliked. Why did the lvl 7-10 mods have such harsh negative effects?
And quests - too few of them. There were a lot of places for more quests. Why was it not used? What a shame.
Now to some praise intertwined with criticism.
Same harsh Wasteland is back. What I like about the game is the reality and cruelty of the world. The weight of your decisions. Compared to other games it's like comparing tabletop D&D to Warhammer FRP. So expect that almost everyone will try to manipulate the rangers on some score or another.
It starts right at the beginning with a choice between kicking out refugees squatting in your new HQ or not. Follows with real world scenario, where time is linear and you have time only for one of two things as saving Power Armor shipment vs saving one big family from retribution of a sociopath. And it went - as they call it nowadays - woke.
Somehow the way most NPCs view the situation and refer to it goes against the entire setup of the game. Obviously the correct choice to battle powerful gangs that go slaughtering innocent in hundreds per day is to obtain that shipment of power armors. So that you can later save hundreds of such families. Just imagine if those gangs would get hold of those armors. How hard would Rangers or Marshalls have their job saving such families afterwards?
Fortunately I didn’t have many of such immersion breaking moments. You will uncover how inefficient, corrupt and lazy the Patriarch is. Then make a choice to support or not to support him. Angela Deth makes a strong case. But having only two ways to get oil for power generators feels like an underdeveloped plot. At least there could have been another way to get power. Like those solar generators. At beginning it felt like they figured out how to increase Solar power output. Why for example the Machine commune couldn't improve that. Or to send another party to drill oil. Gippers were lunatics. Only way to have access to this oil during in game scenario is to have either Valor brain replaced with Regan AI. Or to transfer Regan AI to Ranger HQ to blackmail Gippers. That is very limiting in an otherwise rich world.
Power struggle. Ranger command wants to have a sure deal. It feels like an old general going into politics and getting his moral compass compromised. Then you will find out you are not the first one sent there to seal the deal. Good old Red Death came back. Saying no to pre-electional calculations and pointing on the moral compass and talking about living up to those Ranger values, not just talk about them. And again hard choices are before you. What will you choose? I think this idea is really good. Perhaps if there would have been a third party to really mix the cards and more possible scenarios for you to take, to favor a future leader and perhaps build strong ties. Still the outcome if you go either of two main ways is pretty satisfactory.
I like many things in the game. For example the Bizzare. The story about Monster army, their old base with cinema and old movies and their obsession with monsters and running around in monster masks sounds really believable to me. Other factions are done well as well. Machine commune. Dorsies. Brygo. Hundred families. Godfishers, Scar collectors, Los payasos.
Now allow me to express my disbelief about the map. Why is it so empty? Also why can't it be more like Fallout games. A flat map where you are going in all 4 directions. Where you have a list of destinations. That you can just click to go and you go. Instead you are driving your car around like in some minigame. From the start it was fun, at the end it was tedious. You are going near a few locations that couldn’t be explored until you have a quest for that location. This is another way to clip our wings? Or did designers have problems with us having different lvl than what was expected? In older games you could arrive at a destination that was way above your abilities and there you just poke around, bought something, perhaps did a quest or two and moved away. Knowing you will return later on. But you had the possibility to go there and experience it. You had the possibility of making a mistake.
And I like the mods, but I do not like that you can not take a mod down from a weapon. I understand that you can not take something down from an armor. It could be woven into it, or could be damaged so it can’t be removed. Because unlike weapons in the real world the armor will not last. It gets destroyed instead of your body. Atom RPG was better at this.
Apart from that I have enjoyed this nice game. I wonder if in this world full of compromise and chasing money, where games are tailored for the broad public with younger gamers wanting to have easy fun, will games be more and more easy in a strange way?
There are almost no words for how happy this game has made me, and how often it happens. That's coming from your average jaded millennial, so it means a lot.
The writing, sound track, pacing. It's all good. Worth the money.
Great game play and really in-depth role playing elements. Ultimately, there are too many bugs to recommend this game.
The game's like a Jim Carrey version of Fallout - over the top and wears out its welcome quite fast (whereas Fallouts can be funny and wacky, but they don't rub your face in it). If the game took itself a bit more seriously, it might be different, but the constant wackiness, the attempt to be funny and humorous, gets really grating quite fast - and fails. The game isn't funny, the humor is sophomoric - it's like an extended fart joke (there aren't any fart jokes in the game, but you kind of expect them all the time). I liked Wasteland 2, but this was almost painful to play - I did persevere almost to the end, but ended up quitting and uninstalling because I just couldn't be bothered anymore; I knew I could finish the game if I wanted to, but just didn't want to play it anymore.
Wasteland 3 is a solid 9/10. The story is gripping (and gory), with choices that actually matter, and the voice acting brings the characters to life. The combat is fast-paced and tactical, which struck a great balance between challenge and fun. The whole package kept me engaged without ever feeling repetitive. The snowy Colorado setting is very well-designed and immersive. The game runs smoothly with very few bugs.
Overall, it’s a great title that's worth your time and money if you’re into story-driven games with strong combat mechanics.
Wasteland 3 is a party-based RPG with turn-based combat and classless character development system in a post-apocalyptic (satirical) setting.
The story follows a group of the Desert Rangers from Arizona trying to secure the support of the leader of Colorado, Saul Buchanan, also known as the Patriarch. There are several factions, numerous roleplay options, and meaningful choices. It is also possible to murder most, if not all, NPCs manually.
The player’s characters (there are two) are fully customizable - from name and appearance to abilities and equipment. All non-combat skills are used during exploration and some are used in dialogues and combat. There are companions to recruit and pets to find, while it is also possible to create the whole team yourself.
The combat is turn-based. Combat encounters are reasonably challenging and engaging, the loot is satisfying and meaningful, despite light randomness for non-unique items. The inventory is limitless, though there are no options for manual sorting, by default the equipment is sorted by type and level.
The locations are of reasonable size and accessed via the world map, which is open shortly after starting the game and becomes easier to explore as the party’s vehicle is upgraded.
The controls are rebindable and comfortable. The game lacks the option to pause without quitting the game.
The campaign is possible to play in co-op via LAN, with the other player controlling several characters. It is very well implemented, from dialogues to combat, the experience is very comfortable, while the progress is saved on both players’ systems.
The graphics are pleasant to look at, while the system requirements remain adequate. The save files are very small and located in Documents/My Games. As far as I can tell, there is no limit for the number of save files. The game itself takes about 26GB of space, and runs smoothly. I have encountered FPS drops only in one area and it did not affect the game much. The DLCs on Steam require internet connection in order to work, so if one is interested in them (even if they were not exactly enjoyable for me), purchasing from a DRM-free platform is preferable.
The soundtrack and voice acting are excellent and the former is possible to purchase separately.
Highly recommended.
Good (and Funny) Story, memorable characters, good RPG mechanics.
I was a bit unsatisfied with Wasteland 2, mainly because of how some of the mechanics were at the same time under-cooked and also way too convoluted. I was pleasantly surprised with the fact InExile acknowledged that and then delivered a very well balanced and well crafted mechanics and systems in W3. Great game. in fact, dare I say, my favorite post-apocalypse genre RPG.
Bugged beyond redemption in multiplayer.
If you are thinking multiplayer playthroughs, please skip this game and save yourself the headache and frustration that come with game breaking bugs on a game that hasn't been updated since October 2021.
We tried three times to run a campaign and within 10 hours we'd always find some unfixed UI, scripting, or input bug that would prevent all progress. No workarounds that will save your campaign can be found online. I consider this game as abandoned in an unfinished state from our experience in multiplayer.
We loved this game. The gameplay and everything about it like the story line. Was very excited about finishing the game... HOWEVER
We made it to the Steele-Trap mission and encountered a bug where Steele-Trap would not allow progression of teaming up to kill Buchannon. Specifically the "Are you ready, now?" question from Steele trap. The only answer was 'Not now' so we could not progress. As a result, we attempted a work around to kill the gangs outside of Buchannon's hide out and the game consistently would not progress through the enemy turns...
VERY FRUSTRATING. These bugs occurred at the end of the game. We tried other saves and to no avail.
If I were you, I wouldn't waste your time. We had 10s of hours in the game before this happened and now we're stuck. We uninstalled and that's THAT.
Wasteland 3 is a game that nails down my every checkmark for an awesome RPG. It has absolutely explosive combat, a strong narrative, multiple ways to approach situations and multiple endings. Those aspects only being topped by its amazing soundtrack, its stunning visuals, and its balanced gameplay.
I was really doubtful when I first received it, but it truly kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole experience. I really felt like I was roaming through a snowstorm infested mountain range, and there was no real frustration to be met.
Had a great time playing this game. It's not super dense where you have to min max every character build, and the story and humor kept me engaged. I've never encountered bugs on my gaming laptop, so I'm lucky, I guess?
Very good RPG. The choices have weight, balance is OK, one gripe I had is that the enemies are bullet-spongey and lower-level weapons quickly become obsolete. BTW, you can skip DLCs if you want, they are more of a nuisance.
Mission log bug where all main quests become empty. Forums and posts all say a full restart is required to fix. Fuck off.
This was a pleasant surprise to me - I really, really enjoyed it. Turn based strategy is my greatest gaming love, and I'd been feeling the itch in the aeons since XCOM 2, and it having been a while since I played the death out of the hidden, unpolished, gem that is Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children. So when I saw this on offer randomly, I decided to give it a go. Very glad I did. I'm tempted to go back and replay some of the greats of the late 90s it scratched the nostalgia itch so much, in fact.
There are the occasional bugs, and the AI isn't always the most smart but neither to the extent that they actively harm the product and stop it being fun. If you like good old fashioned TB combat, an irreverent - at times macabre - sense of humour, and the chance to bring some order, justice, and compassion to a desolate nuclear hellscape then this is for you! And if you want to sink to the depths of depravity instead... this is probably for you too - I just can't play games that way, too much of a goody-two-shoes, sadly.
I don't know how to describe this game it's a masterpiece.I enjoyed every moment playing it.
I've finished this game twice first time on steam
Second time on game pass started from scratch with dlc (not recommended)
I would like to thank the developers for bringing this masterpiece and can't wait for wasteland 4
it's fun. i wish however that you healed in between combats. because you don't heal a lot of times you have to run away from an area, go to a doctor, then run back to the encounter you were at, because you couldn't beat it with damaged characters. aside from that, the story is pretty entertaining and the combat is for the most part fun. this game is turn based combat done correctly. in my opinion it's done even better than baldurs gate 3, because you don't have to wait forever for enemies to make their moves on their turn. they made enemy turns go by rather quickly. i haven't finished the game yet but i'm knee deep in the middle of it and having a lot of fun. so far i'd rate it an 8/10. ammo and resources are very scarce in the beginning of the game, so you have to be crafty with how you use up your resources. the game is pretty challenging yet rewarding. i hope more games like this are made.
Excelente, buena historia y jugabilidad. El final depende de tus decisiones. Recomendado
Very immersive and enjoyable. Melee a slightly bit underwhelming (even though they make for good tanks), some weapon types are completely trash compared to their counterparts (Assault Rifles vs SMGs).
Story is cool and engaging with actual choices and consequences.
It is not as polished as Baldur's Gate 3 (massive budget difference) but it is still very much a fun experience. Ton of funny sequences aswell, the voice actors really sell it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The story is fun, the gameplay is fun, I mean all of it. If you like turn based tactical, then this one will definitely take the cake.
With Wasteland 2, I had a lot of fun. So it was a no-brainer to buy Wasteland 3. Now I installed it and the first impression is really bad. Graphics look very outdated. English audio dialogues are pathetic. You are tossed right into action without much explanation. I suppose the developers thought that most people just finished Wasteland 2 and just continue with Wasteland 3. Uninstalled the game and added it to my Steam Crap list.
Kick ass post apocolyptic adventure! you get lost in the story!
Good game overall, but full of shit bugs didn't finish the game because of it and prolly never will, and i read on net that devs know about the bugs but didn't want to fix them so i guess shit devs what to do
Good game. Some technical component of the game didn't finished and work normally. But this game was funny and interesting.
Pretty fun, great setting and some crazy and/or funny scenarios every now and then. gets a little over whelming with a lot of companions, keeping everyone healthy and the different loadouts/abilities.
The story of this game is nice and I like the leveling and crafting and the other play through aspects; however, it is incredibly linear and other than making different choices and thereby fighting or pissing off anew group of people, it isn't very expansive. I played it for about a week and now I'm done. There's nothing else to do. I like to be able to explore a bit more but it entertained me for a bit.
Dang. What a great game. 134 hours just on my first playthrough.
You get to the end and literally every choice you made has some kind of impact on the finale. Really cool stuff.
Wasteland 3 is a great intro to CRPGs, especially if you’re a Fallout fan.
The story is solid, with meaningful decisions, fun random encounters, and plenty of replayability. The combat is simple but fun, and it works surprisingly well with a controller, which makes it easy to dive into even if you’re new to this type of game.
The DLC is okay—it’s basically more Wasteland 3. I’d recommend playing the base game first to see if you’re into it. If you really enjoy it and want a reason to replay, then grab the DLC.
This was the first CRPG I played, and it was the perfect way to get into the genre. Definitely worth a try!
What a bummer. I waited years to wait for this game to be bug free, but it still crashes. What a bummer devs. Really, what a bummer.
games been out for 4 years and still has all of its bugs from lauch, i just bought it and cant even progress bc every 5 minutes its stuck on enemy turn or the game hard crashes, great game fr just bad devs and team who didnt fix it
I got this game to play in coop, but there is a bug that half the time we play my partner cant move or do anything, We have to reload the game multiple times sometimes taking 30 mins before it works. Thats why the negative review
I told some guy in a scrapyard his bear suit was shitty and he started crying. Later, I recruited him as an animal companion. He just cries during fights and sometimes throws snowballs full of piss at the enemy.
Pretty damn good game.
