Rocket Star Corporation DLC
In a near future ravaged by wars, corrupt regimes and devastating pollution, influential corporations have created the Genesis program in a last-ditch attempt to save humanity.
As the Captain of a Genesis starship, you journey into uncharted space on the ultimate mission. Build and manage a space vessel, farm resources, deal with terrifying alien infestations, clone creatures and explore a vast, randomly generated universe.
Go Rogue
Huge, randomised galaxies ensure every run in Genesis Alpha One is unique. Choose one of three difficulties or tailor the game to your playstyle with the Custom Game Mode. Discover new planets, circumvent asteroid fields and survive encounters with the Mechanics and Framen, space pirates who will board your ship to destroy your ship and all its inhabitants. Death is the end and once all your clones are dead, the mission is over. However, you will carry through artefacts unearthed into your next playthrough as well as unlock new corporations, making you more powerful with each attempt.
Build, Upgrade, Explore
Starting with a small vessel, you’ll have to build and maintain an intergalactic ark by combining dozens of upgradable spaceship modules including crew quarters, workshops, hangars, clone labs and greenhouses.
Using an intuitive building menu, easily snap together the pieces of your ship to tailor it to your playstyle. Develop your vessel and then explore your creation in first person.
Battle Alien Infestations
Alien infestations can spread quickly, contaminating the ship and crew. It’s imperative to wipe them out before you become overwhelmed and your ship is destroyed. An arsenal of weapons and defences can be researched to help you fight the alien threat. Unleash an array of powerful weaponry, research alien diseases to heal your crew, equip new abilities and deploy warbots to devastate the alien hordes.
Clone and Create New Lifeforms
As your ship grows, so must your crew. Using ground-breaking cloning technology, your crew will expand to meet the needs of the ship.
Loot DNA samples from the aliens you encounter across the galaxy and splice them with members of your crew to give humanity a chance to prosper with abilities far beyond what was previously imagined.
Delve Deep Into Vastness of Space For Valuable Resources
In order to expand your ship and sustain your crew, you must explore planets fraught with danger. Gather elements such as Copper and Uranium and harvest plants to sustain life aboard your vessel. You may also find alien artefacts and intel from those explorers that have gone before, and not lived to tell the tale.

I played this game awhile ago on Xbox and its still great! I love the visuals and the theme. Very similar to Alien. I totally wish this had steam mod support. Amazing game and concept. It is somewhat a hidden gem for station builders/scifi rpg horror!
game is fun and pretty cool. havent played it in a while but i wish there were more updates on it. it needs a couple of tweaks still as cool as it is.
Yes
This game is A Plus material they need to make a part two with mulit-player where you can have your crew and clones maybe maybe not but highly recommend this game.
would you be surprised if I told you this game is rubbish
This combines a first person shooter game with a SIM Space Ship simulation where you can build your own Ship AND colonize several planets, fantastic !
Very few bugs, the missions are repetive, but in my oppinion one of the best games I've played.
Its a shame there isn't more DLC or a new release.
And again an good idea made in a not very good game, but for 5 USD is worth it.
I know this is game is old but it still holds up today. Also it has been so much fun! I wish they would make more games like this one.
Great game. No issues running it on steam deck
Top tier rouguelike space sim, me and a buddy lost many a hour to this.
They could have implemented more but I guess they ran out of resources
ive played this alot on psn (completed 3 colonies) and plan on more here. this game is seriously insanely underrated. its so different. funner than competitors (ive tried NMS and didnt like that as much as this) once you get to know it, its easy to understand and has a very sweet balance to it (remember to make your after-tutorial-success galaxy easy with extra nodes and no invasions cuz the harvester, refinery & tractor beam infections are enough trouble!)
I love this game soooo much…👍🏾
It's got a flow that's crazy addicting. I love the 80's retro style the music and graphics.
I spent an hour in it and looked at a couple videos. It was not very intuitive. It looks like you add modules to your ship, keep them tweaked, and grow/advance your crew clones. There is also a shuttle that brings you to a planet landing site (not sure how big this is. I only saw a small area of a planet). You extract material from rocks then hurry back to your ship before aliens take you out. Aliens seem to hitchhike back to your ship and need to be dealt with. You then look around a mapped area for a new home for man. I am sure there is more, but I did not feel drawn to the game to continue.
Has Game-breaking bug (stuck robots) that can end up throwing away hours and hours of progression. Can't recommend until fixed.
- Really dev, just quickly patch them to be non-colliding - at least until you can figure out the fix.
- Can't even store the save and play a new run while I wait because of how the (lack of) save system is implemented.
- Or how about a console, or 'bot stuck' command, or ANYTHING. This isn't complicated.
Feels more like a 'tech demo' or 'portfolio piece' than a polished game.
The "FPS" is more hindrance than feature, creating problems without providing any real benefit fun-wise.
- The 'levels' are tiny, mostly flat areas with 'features' (rocks, plants, etc.) whose only purpose is to make it harder for the player to spot enemies and move about as needed. It's nearly 100% 'gotchya' stuff that makes it hard to see some incoming attaks, aim effectively, and move without getting stuck. In short, the 'terrain' adds no value to the player (it's not even visually appealing imo), while simultaneously creating problems with UI/gameplay.
- On the 'ship' the terrain features have clearly been similarly carefully crafted to hide enemies and camoflage features/interactions. Again, it just clutters the player's ability to efficiently identify and interact with their environment.
- In the end, most 'FPS' encounters boil down to either 'run backwards while shooting' (often at your feet right in front of ou), hiding in some area where you can shoot the enemy with impunity (ie, cheese - and not clever cheese, more like 'oh, I can sort of shoot through this floor' or 'ok, got on top of this rock they can't path up, now to shoot that mob o melee bugs...), or being rapidly (and I do mean RAPIDLY) swarmed to death.
The 'ship-building' is marginally interesting, but again with more completely unnecessary 'gotchya' elements that can basically end your run because you pushed the wrong button, or didn't realize the mechanics worked a certain way - and now you're boned and having to start over, etc.
- Most of these 'gotchya' issues feel like they could be easily solved, but the dev couldn't figure out (or didn't have time) to create a 'real' (or polished) solution and just went 'meh, oh well, got somethign to work, moving on')
I could go on, but really, it's just moe of the above, and I don't have the enegy to continue. So I'll just end with 'buyer beware'.
Good Game
An absolutely stunning game, one of a kind. Genesis Alpha One is very unique both in gameplay and lore. An interesting combination of roguelike RTS/FPS.
You are the captain of a ship that you can fully customize and build and your mission is nothing else than initiating a Genesis (finding and colonizing a habitable planet). At the start of the game you pick a corporation that you want to play as, some start with little content, others with tons of crew and resources (but these need to be unlocked via achievements first). After you picked a corporation and created your ship, you begin the game.
During your search, you will encounter many alien lifeforms and even some rogue captains and their crews that WILL try to kill you. In fact, almost everything in Genesis Alpha One tries to kill you. There are many modules to build, and many blueprints to find. Everyone in your crew, including you, is a clone. You can clone more crew by gathering biomass. You can even merge clones with alien DNA to create new unique clones, that breathe different atmosphere, which allows you to colonize a planet humans normally couldn't ! Awesome !
There is some grind, but everything feels great. Even the graphics look very good, and don't even get me started with the soundtrack. Oh and the retro-like UI ? The 80s looking tech and interface ? Absolutely beautiful ! And in the deluxe edition you even get an art book and the sountrack included ! Very nice !
The devs absolutely nailed the game atmosphere and game design, I LOVE this game, even tho it can get a little grindy.
One can only imagine what the devs could achieve in this game. It feels kinda rushed, but it delivers what it promised and they even released a new corporation and ship invasion update ! Both great additions to an already awesome game.
A solid 9/10 because the game has POTENTIAL, there could be way more content, but what we've got is awesome.
Do yourself a favor and do your research on how to play this game. Completing the tutorial is recommended. You should be very cautious when playing, because things can go wrong VERY quickly, but that is part of the fun !
Honestly, thank you Team17 and Radiation Blue for this gem. One of a kind.
This game is trial and error with punishing consequences. Good but hard
This game would be perfect if it was coop. Sadly there is no plans or mods for that.
Ya know, I got it on sale for $4 and for that amount, it's worth it just to peep in the mind of the developers. There's a LOT of really interesting ideas here. Unfortunately they don't really work to make a cohesive whole. This is a "the whole is less than the sum of its parts" type of scenario. Which is a bummer, because it's definitely unique. This game could be amazing, it's just... not.
This is a lot of tedium, with systems that were obviously meant to be more robust than they are. The game telegraphs very little information to you (seriously, I lost the tutorial the first time I played and had to Google why). Everything is just so rudimentary despite it seeming to be otherwise. That makes this way more an exercise in tedium than a game.
I'll echo others in that this REALLY feels like the publisher (Team17) demanded a product be shipped despite it not being done. Which, if that's the case, is a shame. Because they were on to something great and they ruined it.
Gameplay wise it's a bit of resource management, a bit of ship building, and a bit of FPS. But none of them are compelling. Which is unfortunate, because I *really* like what's being attempted here. There just isn't enough accomplished, and not enough publisher support, to make it worthwhile.
I don't recommend this, but I would absolutely buy a sequel.
Just barely scratched the surface of this game but so far I love it. Especially because I can play it in VR using UEVR. The graphics look amazing in my headset. It runs smooth as silk maxed out. The mechanics and ship building is fun. You can tell the devs put a lot into it. I'm still in the tutorial phase. Landed on a planet and was looking at my PDA when I was attacked by 6 or 7 alien creatures and died sadly lol. Though I'd hop on here and post this. Got the game on sale and I consider it a bargain.
SPECS: Ryzen 9, 32gb, 3060ti, ssd, Pico 4-Virtual Desktop-UEVR
It's kinda hard. 10 minutes in and the station explodes in every scenario.
played this game to clear my mind its fun and addictive
i wish it was multiplayer...
great game would be nice if they kept on updating the game adding new stuff and adding multiplayer/co-op
A neat little game. It has some flaws but once you understand the gameplay loop they're not so bad.
The tutorial does not really prepare you for how punishing the infestation mechanic is, or how important it is to isolate the possible infestation vectors and surround them with turrets and energy shields. The tutorial doesn't even mention that there is an extensive network of "belowdecks" maintenance tunnels that serve absolutely no purpose other than to let alien infestations spread unchecked through the ship. They're certainly not used for actual maintenance -- I live on the ship, and I know for a fact nobody ever goes down there for any reason other than killing aliens.
Also, the tutorial gives the impression that this is primarily a crew assigning, resource-gathering, crafting game. It teaches you how to assign crew to stations, as if it's something you're regularly going to be doing. It doesn't sufficiently warn you that your crew are idiots who will allow alien infestations to run rampant while happily continuing to teleport more aliens on board, causing more infestations.
All of these things can be managed, but only by using mechanics you are not really informed exist.
I'm still recommending this game, but mainly because it is so cheap it is well worth the money spent. At the very least you'll get an entertaining few hours out of it.
one of the best games i've ever played, the atmosphere, the music, the sound, the small details... the depths of this game is unbelievable + strong replay value
Good loop. Good UI. Great game.
7/10
Honestly I find the game to be pretty fun. Could it use some work? Absolutely. Considering its a 4 almost 5 year old game I dont see anything changing with it but I just found this game today and wish I had found it sooner.
The ship building is a lot of fun. You have to manage resources and be smart about what you build and how and be strategic with placing things so you can easily keep an eye on infestations.
The infestations get kind of annoying as I cant figure out if they just randomly pop up when you hyperjump to other areas, in general, or if they just spread from missing one bug when harvesting resources. Everytime you use the tractor beam to harvest something or every time you return from a planet and the robots unload your resources there is a chance of an alien spawning that can cause an infestation. that much i found out, but how to keep it under control if you miss one is a lot of work and can get kind of annoying.
The planet exploring isnt really exploring. Its a really small area that will have a handful of resources around your landing site and a potential crash site/satelite of some sort you stand by until it reaches 100% and during the entire time youre on land you are fighting off random waves of whatever alien spawns there so its essentially a PVE extraction run. get (the lander can only hold 5 resources a trip) as much of a resource as you can and return back to the ship. This whole process could be WAY more fun. Like explore a planet, maybe run down labs and misc resources around the planet, build little habitats or something on these bases. etc
Im assuming theres a game over if you run out of crew. It seems when you die the captain title transfers to another crew member and you become that person.
Theres honestly still so much potential to this game but considering the age of it take it for what it is. If this company is still actively devloping id love to see them make another game like this but with A LOT more to it because there is so much more they can do to expand this game and make it incredible.
