Fun little platformer, a bit challenging to get all achievements, but a good game.
I feel bad I never reviewed this. This is a very cheap, well maintained/improved little 2d platformer. Nothing mind blowing but it has some clever level designs and is a quite pleasant speedrun.
Just some kind of horror, collision is very broken, the control is disgusting, some levels are unrealistically difficult and some have broken finishes and you have to start over, how do you need to hate the players to create this, free browser platformers are many times better
Hoo-Boy is a classic platforming game that looks very casual, but gradually becomes very, very hard in the later levels. There is a lot of timing and precision jumping in the later levels of this game.
If you're an achievement hunter looking for an easy 100%, or you get frustrated easily from difficult games, this isn't for you. Otherwise, keep reading:
The gameplay isn't anything to write home about: You jump on platforms and springs, avoid obstacles(including moving ones), and collect coins. There are no special moves, just left/right and regular jump. You also have full control of your horizontal movement while in the air, which is something I found the game actually took into consideration in a couple of levels, in how they designed the challenges.
Can be played with either keyboard or controller. I played with keyboard for 5/6 of the game, but did switch to controller for the final part(mainly because I just got one), and I found it to be slightly easier to control, but not a world of difference. The gameplay is responsive, even if the controls and movement set are both very minimalistic.
It's possible to unlock a couple of different characters, and even some cosmetics, though I feel most of that comes so late in the game that you won't actually get to experience those a lot before the game is done anyway. One of the extra characters is necessary to get all of the coins, if you're a completionist or achievement hunter.
This feels sort of like "baby's first game", but for that it's rather polished and good. I definitely enjoyed myself most of the time(though I found one particular level to be a bit over the top in difficulty). I could find absolutely nothing special or unique about this game, but that doesn't mean it's a bad game either. It's a bit rinse and repeat - and a lot of games are.
All in all, it's decent enough game that it's worth paying for(at least on sale) and playing, if you enjoy 2D platformers with a bit of a challenge.
100% in 5 hours. (Someone better at platformers could probably get through it faster.)
Hoo-Booy this game was a fun one. Really enjoyed the super mario bros feel to this game's atmosphere. 10/10 for a short, but delightful experience.
It's a pretty standard platformer with an annoying sliding mechanic that slides you off the edge, which makes the game a lot harder than it should be, especially at the later levels. The game has multiple soundtracks which is nice as the music doesn't get boring, although it would be been great if I were able to switch the music or not having the music reset whenever you die as this gets irritating pretty quickly when you have died as much as I have.
I've spent more than twice the amount of time on the last five levels than the first twenty which took what little fun I had out of the game. While it's not a bad game, it's not something I enjoyed, especially the last few levels.
Terrible platformer with sluggish controls and unfair level designs where sometimes you can't see where you're supposed to land until you take a leap of faith. Game starts fine, but the difficulty spikes at the last few levels (around 20) with non-intuitive level designs that require pixel-perfect jumps and accurate movements around moving death traps. Character slides off the edge of platforms (developer is unaware of basic game designs required to create a good platformer such as removing round collisions when your rectangular platforms have rounding edges), character movement stutters at any set frame rate (30, 60, 144, or unlimited fps) and offers uninteresting visuals.
Is it worth the money? Nah, not really at full price.
This is a very basic, straight forward little game. A bit of jumping is all that is needed really. No bosses, puzzles or tricky spots. Its a relaxing little game with emphasis on little. I think it took me about 20 mins to 100% complete with all achievements.
I still recommend this game since there is nothing wrong with a straight forward, cute little game as long as you don't expect too much when buying.
A cute 2D platformer that offers a decent challenge in the later levels. This game has some good level design in my opinion and I had a lot of fun trying to beat it.
I really liked the bees, and the sticker on my face. That part was really good.
I didn't like the falling down and sliding around
ITS elegant short tipped with a fuse going off in bombing solutions but frontward its tell wide arranged i'd say it gets a 8.1/10 love the pipple squeak fusion burrito master
Hoo-Boy is a Jump n Run which has 25 levels. Its optional to collect 3 coins each level.
It has some nice jumpy, calm and Retrotracks.
This game is ok for its price
It's a very frustrating game because the mechanics are broken. You can't even control jump height. If you somehow enjoy, and even justify the broken mechanics as "challenging" this is for you.
People in the reviews point out that there were only 15 levels. As of 2020, I suffered through 25 levels. It's good that the developer took the time and added more stuff but unfortunately the game itself is still very dull and broken.
For $0.50, I had my fun. However If I had paid full price I would have been very disappointed.
Woo, boy where do I begin. First off I love this game. It's a simplistic and fun platformer where you play as a piece of candy collecting coins and then getting to the finish line of each level. The first few levels are super easy and each gets progressively harder.
Some levels have some unique obstacles and some even have secret collectibles to unlock hats for your candy.
You can even unlock different candies and even a pot of coffee to play as with enough coins collected.
The best thing to do is unlock the smaller blue candy and then play as it, since it's smaller size can avoid saws and obstacles a little better and the blue candy can fit into smaller areas the others can not. And plus... it's blue!
For seasoned platform gamers like myself, this is a bit easy at points but also can be very challenging. It shouldn't take you too long to beat this game for the most part.
That being said... screw up the butt with a red hot fire iron whoever designed freaking level 22. -.- I HATE level 22... I spent at least 2 to 2 1/2 hours of my total play time just trying to beat that damn stage. IDK why but 22 is the hardest out of the 25 levels. I was so relieved when I finally beat 22. with that damn perfect timing jump between two damn fish and a saw after the first coin.
Regardless, this game is well worth the full price of $1.99. I got it on sale at 49 cents however and it's amazing.
If you're into retro style 2D platformer games, then this is a great addition to your library.
And so long as you don't get stuck on level 22 for as long as I did, it should only take you about an hour or two to complete this game fully with all achievements and unlockables.
Def give this one a go!
Imagine if a person had only ever seen someone play Mario or Sonic (maybe Super Meat Boy) for an hour or two, then decided that making video games is not very difficult, and then made a game. This is that game. I wasn't going to bother reviewing this, but I feel like a few things should be said.
Pros
+ Competently made. No crashes, the Unity engine this is running on runs the game at a blistering 900fps. Why is this game made in Unity?! I honestly have no idea. There's sound effects and music, and the buttons work. There appears to be a level of polish that makes me unable to tell if this is an elaborate prank or an honest effort. I'm going to assume the latter.
+ Platforming is generally good, until it gets awful.
+ You can get 100% achievements if you're a masochist.
Cons
- There is music. It's some generic and forgettable strings/piano and the tracks will frequently last shorter than the level. When you die, the track starts playing from the beginning. Incredibly annoying.
- The controls work, but there is very little actual platforming control. There is no inertia (a running start will not change how far you jump) and you cannot control jump height. The game is designed with this in mind, so I don't think it's unintentional, but when things get difficult, you will notice this immediately. You can't do a short jump to dodge hazards, you will always do a full jump every time, which will often take you into other hazards.
- The edges of platforms are rounded, and if the center of your character is over the edge, you will begin sliding off. I thought this may have been an oversight, where the developer made the platforms round to make them look better and the physics engine simply did the sensible thing. No, this is in fact intentional because the last level includes several parts where you absolutely have to jump while sliding off the edge of the platform. The timing for this is incredibly narrow, and the jump is very difficult.
- The timing of hazards is not fixed to anything except when they are first drawn in the game engine. This leads to some interesting situations where certain hazards can be either difficult or extremely difficult, or situations where the hazards are essentially a random chaos engine. Ever seen two out-of-sync horizontal saw-blades just going at it? Now add a vertical hazard on a third timing, and imagine that you have to jump through them all. If you fail and die, next time the timing of these hazards will be completely different!
- Faith drops. Jump down to a place you can't see! Where are you jumping to? I don't know! Good luck landing on the platform that you don't know where it is!
Meh
? Adds nothing new or innovative. Yeah, not all games need to, but I want to point out that there's nothing interesting here.
Verdict
I would have said "meh get it for the 100% achievement if you want" before the latest update, but hoo boy are you going to have to work for that now (the developer has pointed out that you can simply cheat ,by editing your registry). If this game was inoffensively mediocre before, the extreme difficulty spike in the new levels has made me rethink the fundamentals of what makes good level design. While playing I was thinking to myself that perhaps the developer has simply never paid any mind to level design, but now I think that there was attention paid to it, but only in the sense of making the levels passable only if you abuse the game engine. Not recommended, go play a NES-era platformer instead.
Dear Hoo-Boy
I hate you. I hate your candy land, your stupid insects, your fish on meth, and especially your godforsaken buzzsaws. You are a menace to all things dressed as cute platformers.
In my hours playing you I felt great pain. WHY DO FISH LIVE IN A FROZEN WORLD WITH BUZZ SAWS! Who traumatized you as a child to make this game?!?
In saying that, it was very fun. My friends enjoyed watching me rip my hair out.
It is fun, makes you think, and isn't THAT difficult, save for a few PAINFUL levels. Well worth the price.
DO NOT PLAY WHILE UNDER ANY OTHER INFLUENCE, IT BECOMES HARDER!.
Not the worse game given the asking price.
Too bad the dev keeps adding achievements. Too bad :(
Got it for a cupon, wished i didnt even paid the little cash I did, reason being is that the game is like a flash game that you should of just got for free, you will beat the game in no less than 10 minutes. I feel asleep while playing. Dispite its cute style and stuff I would not recomend it to a friend or some random person in the world because of just how short and lazy said game was made. It is the eqivilant of a flash game. Also if you know every unitiy glitch in the book, this game does not have it patched. Go nuts on it. In full rating:
Gameplay;
7/10
Simple yet time wasting, the factor that there is just a minor platforming game with no checkpoints, cute artstyle and the fact that it was easily to glitch the game out made it to the point where you would have to know every unity glitch that can not be fixed unless manually patched by the dev's of the game. There is just not much to do but to just get to one end to the other. The other factor of this would be in flash games just like it which are free and most likely more enjoyable if you don't have a steam cupon taking this thing for 99% of its price.
Patches/Glitches balance:
1/10
This game only had a minor patch for an achivement, but the problem with that is the achivement is rare to get due to the fact that it is littered with glitches between falling out of the map, to crashing the game. The only thing I found not glitch worthy was the platform and the surfaces were solid.
Replayability:
1/10
The fact that you can fly through levels as fast as you started them once you got to understand the game would make it come to the point on asking yourself why am I playing this, unless you are achivement hunting/glitching out the game then there is no replay value.
Story:
X/10
There is no story, you are just a peice of candy, with arms, legs, and just jumping on a platformer. NO RATING
Overall
3/10
Reason being is the fact that it is littered with more bugs than I can report to the DEV's and the fact that you will most likely have more fun playing a flash game to this I wouldn't reccomending plaing this game unless it was truely free. The fact that it costs money for a half-worked game makes you start to wonder why am I on this and not on some flash/javascript type game. I personally like the art style but the gameplay just gets annoying over time between falling through floors the wrong way, to straight out crashing. Again would not reccomend the game to anyone but this game has potenial for those whom love glitch hunting as I am writing this review.
Hoo-boy is a game where you play as the dreamcast swirl, all what you gotta to is walk and jump, that's it, the game is ok, but c'mon where is the checkpoints? wheres the monsters? wheres the final boss, the final boss should have been a kid who is trying to eat you and you have to jump on his fingers to hurt him, but no the developer is too lasy to do that, i'll give this game a 6/10, that's anatoly's first game, so nice try
Quite easy and simply designed platformer with 15 levels
+ cute graphics and animations
+ relaxing soundtrack
Really okay for the price.
