The quality of this game is just not good. It is not addictive at all.
I'll begin saying i don't think this game is still updated or actively developed so keep that in mind first and foremost before buying.
It's a solo project and it's quite outstanding as such but as a game and a racing game at that it's not very excellent.
First the controls, if you ever played "Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity" the drifting in this game feels like gravity boosting; that is you turn around, press your drift button and you begin to lose all speed drastically only to be sling into a sharp angle with some degree of boosting. Problem is that it's not very good. Then you have the controls, they are responsive but you never truly feel like you are in complete control of your cat and you tend to struggle a lot with curves.
Second goes for the "speed" of the game, the game is too fast even at easiest difficulty and that's not a good thing. The game tries to make up for this with wide and long, very long tracks but it's the little maneuvers that completely ruin the flow: you are going top speed for a long stretch then you find a ramp or a curve and you find out you are going too fast to correctly approach it. As for ramps, they do nothing afaik, you don't get more speed or do tricks in midair to justify them, more often than not you just jump and hope you end up somehow inside the track again.
Finally i guess, the visuals and audio: The boosting visuals, this air ripple effect is annoying, disorientating and nauseating and it's way more common than you think. Then the contrast of the game is absurdly bright, even if you adjust it in your settings chances are everything will still blend together in a single palette of washed out, bright colors.
The audio is completely broken, absolutely broken, you'll hear the screeching noise of your brakes or someone else's brakes the entire race from start to finish, it never goes away. Being inside the pack of racers is super annoying, you only hear stock cat mews and it's very off putting, since they are mood neutral and do not indicate whether something is happening or not to the racers.
Its cute but so shallow, handling is completely off, visibility of pickups is zero, couldve been great
Buy this game.
Supersonic Tank Cats is definitely a game that has some good content. It has a good gimmick, it's feels like it would be great for multiplayer, and it has more than just the average indie racing game. I haven't been able to explore a lot of it, but it definitely feels like it should be worth more than $10. There's not a ton you can do in terms of story for a party racing game, seeing as it should be something you should be able to jump right into without knowing anything about it, and this game feels like it went beyond that in it's content. So why the disapproving red thumb? I explain at the end of the cons. I do want to talk about it's highlights though.
Pros
The visuals! I turned them to the highest setting and the only problem I have with it visually is that the ground starts to flicker the layers under at the part you're currently on... but who focuses on that instead of looking ahead? It makes it look like you're breaking the concrete while you're driving on it. Not an issue. The face cam in the bottom right is a nice touch as well. It runs very smooth while you're playing (If you have the appropriate specs).
Having missions is one of the best ideas in racing games.
Weapons don't really stop you, they cut your momentum, which I think is a great concept especially when it comes to having different accelerations.
The boost pads on the courses are great! They shoot you in the direction they're facing, so you can slide into it at almost any angle and it would still boost you in the right direction.
The levels vary as you're progressing so you're not looking at the same thing over and over. The course themes are done well even though they don't match the previous courses.
Cons
Giving the individual characters specific pickups makes some feel too unbalanced, especially since they already have different stats.
Jumping over weapons doesn't make them miss you. I don't understand how I completely clear a mine, but still peel out midair...
The layouts of the levels are very straightforward. What I mean is that there's only one path (going out of bounds on parts where you could make it a shortcut rewards you with a hefty spawn time, placing you where you exited the course, followed by spinning out and losing all momentum upon reloading), and I didn't see any shortcuts that were off the beaten path. When a round lasts over three minutes a race, it's a bit much to not have any exploration.
The drift boost builds waaaay too fast. I can boost several times on a straightaway that I'd only be on for five seconds. As long as you're turning while drifting, you can boost, and you can immediately do it again without a loss of momentum.
I play games by turning off the in game music and playing my own while leaving the sound effects on. I do this wearing a headset. Now... I understand they're cat tanks, but the engine/tire squealing sounds throughout the ENTIRE game is just awful! It's overpowering the other sounds in the game. It overpowers my music, and it completely ruined everything I enjoyed about this game. Why? Why make it so loud and last the entire time the characters are moving? It's not like there's separate settings to individually change the volume of specific sounds, so in order to play this, I would have to turn all sounds off. This means no cats meowing when the race starts or they get hit, boost sounds, pickup indication, drift, ability use, lap indicators... NOTHING! That's a deal breaker in a racing game, and it's honestly the only reason I thumbs downed this game. The other cons aren't that big of a big deal, and it brings variety to a genre controlled by big name game companies. Is there a way to fix this? PLEASE TONE IT DOWN!!!
Supersonic Tank Cats is a steam racing videogame featuring sort of specific rush of relief track designs that compact a furthermore detail punch...a thrilling gaze that sincerity takes from itas a tightened kitty leash beats a fast speedway to checkmate hell...some wrinkle additional options that contentedly devour the whole plump of litter mess!!!
This game has a total of 12 tracks not bad for the casual spike thin layer price but overall i give this game a 10/10 a hungry kindling drag lighting the way out of darkness valleys and mineral china walls drilling a sensational feeling to the cuteness spark of a kitty chamber heart love the burrito master
This game is a great cheap version of mario kart but unique and creative in its own way. Please Play and Support. Much time and effort has gone into it.
Review 3: The Wholesome Update
Also known as Don't Jet Boost Jump (TM), still
I'm going to preface this how much I love this game.
This review is going to look like I don't by the end, but that's only because if my few issues get solved, this would be an incredible game.
That being said
The Good
- The speed you can get in this game is addicting, and it's only gotten better since the items were adjusted in this update to be slightly less devastating.
- The soundtrack, I need more of it.
- Every track feels nothing like another, they are all incredibly unique.
- Every character is unique as well. They each have their own pool of items they can get, changing their play style entirely.
Previous Complaints, Fixed
- There was an issue with drifting where, on rare occasions, trying to hold the other direction to do a longer drift would just make you go the other direction randomly. I could not seem to replicate it since the update.
- I no longer have navigation issues with some of the later tracks. Which seems to suggest one of two things, neither I can verify. Either I've just gotten better at noticing it, or said tracks were updated with much needed arrows and walls. I'm not entirely sure at this point :/
However
- This game has a motion-blur type effect at high speeds. It really doesn't look good on Pawns Road specifically, with it's checkboard patterned road.
- Bakeneko's Mansion still has this mean turn into the house that lands you in a dead end if you don't know it's coming.
- It is basically impossible to jump on the bridged of Misty Peaks
- Rockit, and maybe others, have problems using ramps with the Rainbow Paw item on Catactus Desert
- On Cloudscraper Highway, you can reach buildings in the background using the Jet Boost item and get stuck.
And speaking of Jet Boost.
Using Rockit's speed, a well timed jump at the start of a downward slope or end up a jump ramp, and Jet Boost, it is possible to skip over many invisible checkpoints (Rockit is all I really tested it with, though other cat's with this item may be able to pull this off)
Skipping these invisible checkpoints will cause the game to tell you that you're going the wrong way until you go back and touch the invisible zone you skipped
For example, I found a bunch of skips on the following maps
- Cloudscraper Highway, one on the downward ramp before the flag, one on the 90 degree fall just before that ramp (despite being able to jump off of that normally and being fine), and one after a yellow ramp midway through the track
- Thunder heights, pretty much after every jump ramp, but also there's this small u-turn the game wants you to do before the flag, you can jump over the gap between that normally without jet boost and it will still complain
- Iceberg Base, ramp midway through the track
- Bakeneko's Mansion, ramp out of the house
But if you're not insane enough to Jet Boost Jump off of every ramp, or don't actually play a character with Jet Boost, you probably wont run into this issue, Jet Boost just happens to send you vertically in the air, fast enough to allow you to jump over checkpoints that you would normally have no ability to jump over
For an indie title, this game holds up fairly good. While it may not have the polish compared to a triple A studio, the fact that its this well put together by an individual is an amazing achievement.
All the art assets being hand made really adds to the graphical style of the game. While it can be overwhelming to the eye (especially with the blindingly bright bloom, seriously might want to set it to off when you first play), it has its own personality. It doesn't take itself seriously, and that's something I can enjoy for a game just being genuine fun.
The mechanics consist of a typical cart racer - accelerate, drift, power-up, with the occasional jump.
AI opponents can provide a good challenge when set to the higher difficulty.
The selection of characters is varied enough for players to find their favorite. [Though, if it were reasonable, tailored sounds to make each own their own would have gone a ways to make them memorable. Just an opinion] (Not to mention the mode to meet each one in a little playground is just the cutest touch.)
Venues for races each have their own fun theme to them. However, they can come across as messy with their hazard placement and some choppy set pieces, but nothing overbearing (apart from one track on the third cup.) Some stretches of ground can drag on a little longer than desired, but slope momentum mechanics make the speed at times quite thrilling.
To supplement the racing, the game also features a mission mode for those wanting specified challenges to play.
Overall, if you like cats and could go for another indie racer in your library. Go for it!
PLEASE Read,
I love every single detail of this simple, yet addicting racing game. However, I wish that the pictures of the characters were a little more accurate to the way the characters look in-game. Overall, I do recommend this game. Thank you for reading this.
Although I have only played a short while on this game it is very cute and like loads of other people have said it has potential, though having a drifting system like Sonic and All-stars Racing Transformed would be cool, other than that I have only found 1 real bug n that is that Xbox360 controller controls are abit buggy, the only visual disadvantages is the game does not currently support 4K (2160P) resolution, other than those, it is a thoroughly enjoyable game and very cute, kitty cat 🐈 cute and Free Roam, could be a suggestion but they could in the future make a large map with a city and country side and places to explore and hidden Scout mice to find and missile doggies, so yes recommend this game 😎
great game so far, has a lot of potential
Awesome Game, make many profit, many nice
My kids loving this game with its super cuteness, keep up the great work !!!!
I've been following the developement of this game since the creator first started posting about it, I felt like it had great potential and I couldn't wait to see what it would become. Now after playing the game a bit for myself, it was even better then I could have hoped for, smooth animations and easy controls. The music that comes with it is fast paced, just like a race games music should be. All the race tracks and battle arenas are beautifually designed, while maintaining the cute cartoony feel that they all have.
For anyone who like the Mario cart games, I suggest giving this game a try, it is honestly amazing.

Pros:
Lots of pawtential
Great background mewsic
Purrfect art style
Cons:
Not called "2 Fast 2 Furry"
This is a super cute kart racer and a real labour of love from the developer. Supersonic Tank Cats just got better and better through early access with the developer adding loads of content to the game. It's very different to how it started out - the game has come a long way.
There is LOADS of content to keep you busy for a while - battle modes with local multiplayer, challenges and races.. plenty of different characters and powerups to try out. It's awesome.
It's colourful and fun but challenging in all the right places. Gameplay is awesome and it's solid technically, too. It supports controller perfectly and wide screen resolutions.
If you love racing games, kart racers or supersonic tank cats, get it. Just buy it now already, it's great and we should be 100% supporting developers like Molegato who are making games with real heart <3
It's like Mariokart except with cats that are tanks. What's not to love?
