This is my favorite VR rhythm game on psvr1, so, of course I love the better-looking PC VR version. I put 100 hours into the psvr1 version. I definitely enjoyed it more than Synth Riders, OhShape, and Audica. I liked Beat Saber more at first, but after putting +200 hours into beat saber, I felt burned out of it and stopped playing it. I don't think I ever got tired of Dance Collider though. Highly recommended, especially for the ridiculously low price that it has nowadays in all platforms! I bought the psvr1 version for $20 years ago and never regretted it. $5 for this VR rhythm game on pc is a steal. Have fun!! My favorite song was Yuri's 4th song, but I love the soundtrack in this game. It has my favorite style of songs out of all the rhythm games in VR (and I tried and completed almost all the popular ones). If you like techno or electronic dance music, Dance Collider has superb songs that you won't find in other vr rhythm games.
I've played a lot of rhythm games and while others have their own advantages, this is definitely one of my absolute favorites. The music tracks are mostly great (I haven't even tried using my own music yet, but I plan to do so) and I am very fond of the game's lore and holograms of various opponents shown during the dance battle. It gives the game character and charm.
Its a lot like Synth Riders but worse. I would definitely recommend picking that game up instead of this one. This game has less songs, all of them by one artist with some songs that feel like slight variations of the previous one. It has frustrating gameplay with some of the levels and particle effects making it challenging to see the notes to hit. The mapping on some of the songs is pretty bad as well, and there is hardly any user created songs. The entire time I was playing I just kept wishing I was playing Synth Riders or Beat Saber.
whoa this game is baaad... graphics are horrible. music is dull. pro difficulty isn't even hard. no fucking exit button from the game. it isn't worth even on 75% sale....
aight, so the game is alright, but not the best. a better (in my opinion) option would be beat saber. hits feel a bit delayed from the beat, or notes, the hits don't feel like the slap, they just sort of feel like (meh). does it have potential? VERY. does it have it? currently, no. needless to say, this has my attention, and I am interested to see it's future.
Really good game - minor glitches like can't find exit and have to end app on computer. I didn't spend much time in the music editor, but it seems difficult to use. This provides a great aerobics workout for those that really move and dance.
I am really enjoying this game. I admit at first I was 'ok this is boring' and quit the game, just having finished playing beat saber. I thought I would give it another go a few days later (before asking for a refund). The second attempt I decided to get into a dance/workout mode, instead of saber mode, and I really enjoyed it.
If you regularly play rhythm & dance games you might want to skip the easy (and probably normal) levels you will most likely be bored. I am not saying they are boring but just like if you play beat saber on expert mode and then go back and play it on easy mode.
Each dancer has their own style and beat and different levels of difficulty.
The graphics are top notch.
The music is great and there is an option where you can create custom songs and dances
The dancers (opponents) show up as giant holograms and are beautifully designed.
So far I have only played Uriel (the boss) once and I was totally caught off guard by the level. It was a workout.
What I do not like much about the game is that the dancers stay giant in the background while the orbs are coming at you. I like having them in the background, even though their movement don't really match what's coming at you, you can still get a sense of the movements and style of dancing. They just really should be much smaller.
also the background lights flashing at times are the same colors as the orb and you really can't tell if something is coming at you from left or right or straight ahead.
To be honest I got the game on sale for under $5 I think it was a great deal.
at regular +$10 more If you like dance and workout (& beatsaber) games this is worth it.
Very cool game. Forces you to move a lot, sweat and bend your joints. Shows me how unused to moving in 3D space I am. In a way it feels like dancing~~~
The easy difficulty aimed everything at your face which I disliked but that disappeared on higher difficulties.
Only problem I faced is while using Oculus Air Link the tutorial/How to Play section of the game doesn't work right. It doesn't allow you to hit the targets.
I didn't expect much of this game, but it was on discount, and it's a lot of fun. It's basically Synth Riders, but cheaper, honestly, there's very little difference except for the graphics, and the music is not by famous artists, but it's still decent (very much like 90s dance music/videogame music) but it works really well. I've only tried a couple of characters on normal and Pro and I was dripping with sweat after a few games. Great as a workout, great as a game.
Pretty decent rythm game.
Each hand has a color, boxes of those colors come at you, and you have to punch them to get points and pass the level.
The way the boxes come at you kinda "forces" you to dance, which is pretty cool... and exhausing lol, at least on pro i cant do over 2-3 songs in a row, so great workout.
The music is perfect, but as a rock guy i wish some of that was included, havent tried the custom songs but as far as i know there are only ~30 songs on the discord.
Still there are plenty of songs in the main game, it runs perfectly with no hiccups (3600 with a 1080), graphics are simple but polished, storyline is... i mean, theres a storyline! so it adds a little extra to the characters you are dance fighting against, and i got it on sale!
The only issue i can think of is that sometimes the notes come from "weird" angles and suddenly you have a double note that couldnt be seen until the last second... i mean most times it makes sense rythmatibly lol, but still i got caught me by surprise a lot, also its nice to play on an Index as the notes sometimes come from your side and that extra FOV is a life saver i think.
Recommended to anyone that wants a fun polished dance workout game set to fun music.
Whilst it doesn't have the library that Beat Sabre does this game is far more energetic. It also doesn't have as big a modding community so custom songs aren't as easy to obtain but you're still able to through their discord channel.
However just due to how frantic it can get I'd rate this game as needed if you want to use your VR for exercise
Yes it is another music based VR game and yes it has two colours, one for each hand. However with that being said the music is excellent and varied which really gets you immersed. Recommend for anyone that likes the sorts of beat saber but wish it was more music based and 'dancer' like where you need to flow with the music and not just wave some sticks around.
Nice esthetics and graphics, good controller hapic responses, music i just ok, however what most important - gameplay is boring. I was playing on pro difficulty or whichever is one before the hardest - it aint that hard or interesting. I don't feel maps corresponds with music beat well nor they ecnourage to dance.
The game is really good. The music is nice and you have to punch the balls in the rhythm. The graphics are very good and it also has a little story to it.
This game is sick. You'll enjoy it even if you're not normally into dance/rhythm games or EDM. It's kind of like an arcade game in that you can pick it up, understand it and start playing immediately, and within minutes I was having fun. The levels actually force you to move your body in comparison with other games like Beat Saber which focus more on precision swings. Really well polished and from reading some old reviews I can tell a lot has been updated to make it better. Can't wait to see the custom levels people put together.
Great buy at 15 dollars, I got it for 6 which is a steal.
Great game for what it is...A VR Rhythm Game.
The music has an Euro Electronica flavor.
Graphics wise it seems a bit retro...like PS3 retro...lol
The game play is well done. The patterns are fed to you in a logical way.
It's by no means easy...It'll have you breaking a sweat in a hurry.
The Idea is that you're "dance battling"...lol But that's as silly as it sounds.
This is very much a first impression but i bought the game on sale and it already was definitely worth it.
There's plenty of fun to be had, it's a good rhythm game alternative to Beat Saber that actually feels refined unlike some other ones that popped up quickly.
Now that there are custom Songs even more of a reason to stick around, even for the full 12,50 i would say the game is 100% worth it for the standard content itself.
If you are into rhythm games and most importantly electronic music, not much need to hesitate. There's some depth to optimize scores, the new difficulty is really challenging (Pro is very much doable on good scores for me as a newbie to the game, so having something to work towards is great in form of extreme difficulty.)
It's a no bs rhythm game, videos show you what you can expect.
It runs perfect for me on the Oculus Rift S so i'm looking forward to plenty of more time with this one!
This is easily the best game i own on VR, and i luckily got it on sale at just over 5 euro.
I've found it really makes you move around to reach all the nodes. The movement seems fluid and the holograms moves can even be mimicked during the tracks in places.
Its a very good game for a calorie burn workout. I have more endurance than you can shake a stick at and after 3 hours in this i could barely stand.
The only issue i'm having isnt game related its my headset.
I've owned an orignal vive and the psvr previously but I bought a Vive Cosmos for its hot swapable face-plate and portability this time.
This headset looses track of the controllers very quickly if they arent somewhat infront of you the hole time, greatly limiting the dance movements you can do.
Until they make the lighthouse face-plate available I wont be able to fix it either.
For headsets that already use the lighthouse design this wont be an issue.
edit: thanks to one of the devs for responding: i checked the game out again and height calibration is definitely not doing it's job for me. i'm only 5'5" all the movements are overly big (max reach) and catching notes about a foot above the floor is not comfortable. definitely consider in-game height calibration and a calibration grid to bring things in. if i have to take a score hit to make things playable, so be it. i care more about fun and comfort so i can play for 1-2 hours.
Currently not recommending the game because of a few key issues. I think they have a great base here, it's an interesting game but ultimately falls a bit short. The game is apparently still in alpha so should these issues change i will update my review.
Height, Reach or in-game grid calibration: there doesn't seem to be any which makes some of the maps extremely unforgiving or even painful. 'Jumps' from max reach to below knees are not fun. Some of the held notes start just above the floor, some of the notes go have large horizontal jumps so you're putting a lot of stress on your shoulders. I can play expert plus Beat Saber for two hours, Synth Riders for about an hour but Dance Collider is uncomfortable within 15 minutes.
Health System is very punishing - all of the rhythm games i play let you recover health steadily from a miss - this takes ages to recover one point (10 misses fails on expert). Consecutive misses should be more punishing than cumulative misses, ie. if i miss a bunch in a row i should fail, i deserve to fail, but missing a few over the course of a map and failing feels bad man.
Custom Colours: the colours of the notes often blend into the background for me and there doesn't seem to be an option to change them, which makes my next point even harder.
Out of FOV notes: lots of maps have notes that make you turn to the side of the playspace to be able to hit them, there's no warning that the next section will be coming from a direction you're not currently looking at.
Maps: some of the maps are slightly off-time, most of the maps have note placement in areas that either block vision or are in awkward uncomfortable places. You're supposed to punch the regular notes but often there isn't a long enough gap after the end of a held note so you just end up catching it.
Tutorial soft locks the game.
Voice sound option doesn't seem to do much?
VR Editor: it's very confusing. there is no easily accessible way to scroll through the timeline? The 'tutorial' text explains the controls for Vive wands. Click to place while listening to the song is very nice, however everything ends up slightly off time. There is a noticeable delay for the held notes which means they are even more off time. The virtual keyboard doesn't work most of the time and spawns inside the File (save load name) menu. I think they could really benefit from a desktop editor (a 3D one) that has all of these things easily accessible, as making good maps requires you to be able to tweak, time and place notes precisely. Tap placing in VR is nice but having to edit them one by one in VR is tedious.
Things I liked:
- the concept of the game - ie. fighting people and each of them have their own category of music. it's really cool.
- the environments are fantastic, the giant hologram people are also designed very well, each one feels unique.
- the way the orbs spawn in and come at you in an arc really keeps you on your toes, and makes it feel like you're dance fighting (at the same time the way the spawn can be hard to sight read where they're going to end up)
- the songs are really well done, i enjoy the soundtrack of the game a lot.
Hopefully some of these things will be added, changed or addressed over the course of development, it could be an even better game. If that happens I will readily change my review. Please consider making a 3D desktop editor.
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
So this is another VR music rhythm dance (with hands) game. It's very polished. There's a total of 8 characters to battle against either in easy, normal, or hard mode. Each character has a total of 3 songs to do battle against (so 24 total songs). At the end of the dance, you get scored (prepare to get some As finally) and your score is tallied against global leaderboards. There's a tutorial to start off with.
Each character has their own subgenre of music to dance against with just a hint of a backstory and personality. The graphics are well done. You see the notes clearly, they are easy to follow along of well. Categories of music range from Pop to Trance to Dubstep to Hip hop. However, in this game, they are all just subcategories of electronic music. It's stuff you probably have never heard of before and probably will never hear outside this game.
That's not to say the music is bad ... it just really depends on your taste. If you hate EDM, you will hate everything here. I personally liked the Dubstep, Breakbeat, and Drums & Bass categories. I think those really nailed syncing the music to the hand movements. Hand movements generally coincide well with the music in this game, but those categories just seemed natural fits. I didn't like the Pop or the Chillout categories though.
My main gripes with the game is that (at least on Oculus) you see your hand controllers in your hand with little colored rings around them. It just doesn't look good. I would prefer colored gloves. My other request is for them to have YouTube integration or at least let us use our own music or create our own beatmaps to the music.
Rate 7/10. Really well done, one of the better dance music rhythm games .... just doesn't bring anything new to the table that we haven't seen before and the music could be better
THIS IS IT! I can't describe how much fun this is. The graphics are top notch, it's a pleasure to just stand still in this game. The music is great and your opponents have some humor. There are way more movements as in other rhythm games and they feel very smooth. You should buy a vr headset just for this game. I absolutely LOVE it!
Update 23/8/2019. Latest update ruined the game. It's not bad but nothing special either. All magic has been removed. No more feeling special, no more just looking around and enjoy the surrounding. Just one of the many rhythm games available, boring very fast. I can't say if the game got more stable as I never had any problems before. Don't bother with this, go back to the rhythm games you already own this was a good game.
Update 24/8/2019. The dev behind this deserves your support! He put the previous version of this game back on. I'm sooo happy as this is my favorite rhythm game ever. It's great to have options. So now everyone can be happy. If you like the previous version or the current one, it's up to you.
Great aesthetics, good tracks, and easy to jump in and jump out gameplay make Dance Collider a good bit of fun. Anyone that enjoyed games like Audio Shield or Beat Saber will find this pretty familiar, and similarly enjoyable. It's difficulty progression is also far more sensical than the aforementioned, and gives the feel of being the right stepping stones to improving your skills.
My main few bits of feedback: The lack of rumble or audio feedback when hitting a note damages the experience and makes it harder to feel when you've hit something or missed something. With all the notes flying, it's easy to miss the visual cue.
On the Oculus, having the pause button be attached to the Y/B buttons has proved aggravating, particularly when bringing hands together for yellow notes.
Lastly, I had a fair few controller desyncs. This might be game related, but it could also be to do with some bugs in SteamVR that have been posted recently.
Naturally, I recommend giving Dance Collider a try. It's at a good price point, has plenty of content
