Not a military simulation nor an arcade shooter. The weapons are way too accurate at range. Only 20% of rounds fired from soldiers in WW2 actually hit an enemy. This game it feels like this is 90% or more. Just not a game for any player but a vert very small niche. Finding a server that is balanced and fair seems like filling out a tax form. Game play feels tedious at best.
Hell Let Loose is the perfect blend of strategic warfare and absolute chaos.
For example, you’re trying to coordinate with your squad and suddenly someone decides it's a great time to run straight into a tank or an open field because why not? Right!
The maps are massive, the gunfire is intense and the only thing more frequent than explosions is the "Friendly fire? Oops!" moments.
If you're not busy dodging artillery, you're probably lost in a field wondering how you got there. It's like a history class, but with a lot more screaming and very questionable decisions.
10/10, would die for the tenth time in a row.
Fun game if you don't treat it like COD, take your time, play as a team. And don't play as commander until you've got a good grasp on the game.
the game reminds me of squad, all the same mechanics to be honest except for the team work, i will probably be refunding this game, i think its because the game is on xbox gamepass is whats causing the lack of teamwork and cohesion between the players, it just makes the game not enjoyable one bit, there are no squad leaders, and even if there is there is no cohesion between the squads, just makes for an overall not enjoyable experience
I keep being told the player base is friendly but every server I have joined I get spawn killed and flamed by teammates. this turns into a respawn simulator very quickly
Actually so poorly made it is insane. Great internet and average pc can barely get into a game despite how bad the graphics are. If you alt tab while loading you just gotta restart the game. I am baffled it can be so poorly optimized lol.
Honestly when this game is fun, it's incredibly fun. Probably even the best FPS experience that you can have. The graphics are great and the sound design in incredible. This results in the game on a surface level being very immersive. That said, the problem is trying to find a server, team, squad, etc. where this game finally gets good. 90% of your time will be spent playing with people who either don't have mics, refuse to talk, or completely disregard the objective/don't play with their squad. Also, the majority of the time you are going to get shot and killed by something you cant see.
I really want to like this game but I can't. This is the most frustrating game ever made. It favors people with crappy graphics. The lower the settings and crappier graphics card you have the easier the game is for you. If you have any decent or good graphics card don't bother.
The game is suppose to be realistic but fails at that too. I've given this game multiple chances as it has the potential to be an amazing game but each time I give it a chance I'm disappointed at how unrealistic it is. The games tries but fails miserably at it.
no one is talking, dead squads, can't really recommend it. It's just like people bought this game to play like it was COD, which obviously doesn't work out when the game is based on team work.
As someone who often enjoys Milsim/Squad-based shooters for multiplayer, this game makes it extremely accessible and "arcadey" when I'm not feeling as committed to either Squad or Arma. Incredibly fun, balanced, and gorgeous to look at. Plus the WW2 setting is arguably the best feature. Highly recommend!
Not call of duty. If you want to enjoy it, use a microphone and talk with your squad mates. If you want to play solo without a microphone, no where near as fun.
good game shit devs lack of banning and dealing with cheaters bigger problem is the cross platforum console crap and there aim assist pooop shame
One of the best games I've ever played, steep learning curve but and can be extremely frustrating at times, get a good squad with a good officer and a team that communicates and this game is next level. immersion is next level. keep it up guys.
Fun Game. Highly recommend if you played on PC Game Pass and want a better experience. Still wish it ran a bit better.
runs better than all the newer games looks better than the newer games plays great feels great just honestly all around great
This game is pretty much perfect for it being this old. However I'd like to see some cross-platform abilities for PC and Console.
Might be fun for peaple with cheats or those who learned the maps 4 yrs ago
spent $50 for the game because friends wanted to play.
spent enough time in the practice mode to make sure that I knew what I was doing before a game that now I can't refund the game
friends get on
find out crossplay explicitly excludes PC
so I can't play with my console friends, despite advertised crossplay
Really bad, dated graphics, sluggish gameplay
games good but after a update the games 100% unplayable i cant join any servers ive tried everything to fix it and nothing works waste of 50$
refunding because i cant paly the game becuase its so bad (i cant connect to host)
This game has come so far since I was originally gifted it about 3 years ago. It is everything I ever wanted in a large scale tactical FPS. There is an essential aspect of communication between Command and Squad leaders, thoughtful markers and ultimately the game incentives teamwork and punishes Call of Duty-style bravado. I've also noticed the average age is a little higher, as this game probably turns off those looking for a mindless shooter.
Lastly, the game looks absolutely beautiful and runs with absolute stability, compared to titles like PUBG that look and run like they came out in 2008.
I could not recommend HLL enough, it deserves all the praise it gets and more.
So good on PC and on Playstation but why is the server-finding experience STILL terrible after YEARS? Players nowadays are accustomed to immersive match-making experiences that feel like in-world processes to begin playing. This game still requires every player to choose a region, refresh a server list, and then have to click a bunch of arbitrarily-named server lists but always need to hurry without stopping to think which one they'd actually like to choose because there's only 6 waiting queue slots for any servers that are currently full and so since you're always competing with other people trying to join the same extremely full servers, you'll not be able to, so then you scroll down to join less-full servers, but by then, those are all full too because other people are doing the same thing as you.
It's an absolute sack that the developers think this is acceptable for a game that will only survive as long as QoL and User Experience remain part of the development roadmap. And it doesn't look like it, so I recommend the game but not for much longer if the devs are just gonna keep letting it suck in the few ways that it does.
graphics are great, the player base are unintelligent and do not co operate, youre better off playing squad for a good milsim experience.
This game used to be great but now its full of crashes and optimization issues. I cant even change my resolution and the game will randomly throw my window from fullscreen to windowed. honestly unplayable for me.
Finding a match is a pain in the butt. Once a server is full only 6 people can queue to get in at once.
The server list also doesn't update in real time so when you're searching for games with like 70/100 people they're all full with 6 people waiting.
The biggest barrier to entry shouldn't be finding a match.
I'm a sniper, friend is a spotter. Find nice enclosed area over viewing giant open land with minimal coverage. Take up position. Shot in toe, look in direction. MF tank explodes us. Haven't slept due to ptsd. recommended.
Pretty good, could be optimized more, visibility is weird. All around though its a pretty fun WWII experience.
If you use VIP slots then you are actually a sad individual.

I've have been playing HLL on and of again for a couple of years.
I love the game. I hate everything else.
It keeps crashing, or not connecting or no VOIP or whatever. It's like whack a mole with game breaking problems. Sure I will find a fix, eventually, but then something else pops op. I do not understand why this game crashes so many times for so many different reasons.
It's such a shame, a game that is so much fun, gets completely ruined by its instability.
Of to solve the low level pak chunk whatever problem, AGAIN!
The game is really good because it is more realistic than the most of the millitary games. The minuses are only the players. When they dont heva a mic you can not work toghether and that basicly ruins the game a little bit. I recommend it to you if you like millitary, realistic and fps games!!!
its taking me 1.7 house to find a server which i cant connect too any of them, it says connection host lost when every other game i play finding a server is like making breakfast *not hard*
I was skeptical about the game because it's from 2021, but the overall positive reviews made me want to give it a shot. This game is where it's at. If you're sick and tired of playing COD with all the BS, kids, acrobatic maneuvers, and just overall nonsense, HLL is what you need. This game will humble you with its realism and when you finally land a solid team/squad on the battlefield, it gives you that nostalgic FPS feel we all once had when COD and Battlefield were initially released. Buy the game, be patient with the learning curve, and enjoy!!
This is one of the best games ever but it can be even better with crossplay. Please make it crossplay and it could have a setting to enable it or disable it!
Server 1 80/100 players - Sorry, queue is full.
Server 2 83/100 players - Sorry, queue is full.
Server 3 74/100 players - Sorry, queue is full.
Server 4 72/100 players - Sorry, queue is full.
Server 5 66/100 players - Sorry, queue is full.
Server 6 59/100 players - Sorry, queue is full.
Server 7 68/100 players - Sorry, queue is full.
Server 8 40/100 players - Sorry, queue is reserved for paying members.
Get bored and quit. Thus ends todays play session.
Probably one of the best WW2 FPS shooters.
Used to be better, but still playable and enjoyable under new developers especially after recent updates.
BUT please we need to more garries :/
If you ever feel like learning Grandpa's Lore this is the game. Witness first hand the PTSD induced combat of seeing your friends turn into packaged meat from the meat section at Walmart. From the following a tank, grenades, bombing runs, and a lot of artiliory.
So much fun. Look up Youtube videos on how to get good. It's like the "Elden Ring" or "Dark Souls" of FPS games. You die a lot and have to learn quick.
However, it's the fragility of your life in this game that makes it fun. It's hardcore all game.
The community is awesome. People like to role play hard. I was screaming, "Medic" after the first 10 minutes in.
Communication and working as a team is the difference. You won't win otherwise. The veteran players really make this game enjoyable as well. Listen to your officers/commanders. They want you to win have fun.
I love Call of Duty, but its isn't anything like that. It is realism mode.
10/10 - Try it after watching some youtube videos. It makes all the difference.
The game is fun, don't get me wrong, but the amount of small bugs and annoyances is keeping this game from being truly binge-able to the point where you can lose a weekend playing it.
The bi-pod placements don't work well for small cover or for trenches, which limits the MG class a lot in terms of placements, especially since a lot of the objects are at an odd height for proper usage, and open cover that works warrant clean head shots. The hit boxes of static objects are wider than the actual objects, so blocked shots happen quite a lot, and giving your position away like that gets you killed pretty fast; everything from sandbags to trees has this problem. You can't hip-fire any of the machine guns (have to go into a half aim), which completely eliminates panic spray if someone runs up on you and you don't have a pistol out, it's the only class that has this problem.
One only real gripe I have with the game play is the amount of strategy involved in taking out tanks as an AT soldier, specifically when the vehicle teams and team commander are brain dead. Each squad only gets one AT slot, and that one guy has two rockets, and every vehicle in the game dang near takes both rockets in the rear to take it out, which is impossible against any competent team, so unless you have competent vehicle squads and commander, you can get steam rolled pretty easily by a team that uses vehicles well. That's not to say the game play needs to change, because tanks should be a huge asset, but the AT class seems useless a lot of the time unless you are against people that don't maneuver their vehicles well.
Overall Good Game 8/10
One of my great-granduncle's most traumatic memories was having to clear a house of German soldiers by himself.
Iv'e done it 5 times now.
Good game, I have really began to enjoy this game more while streaming it to my communities on Twitch and YouTube. Great time with friends!
It's not too bad I guess I enjoy it somewhat occasionally with friends
As long as you can find a good group of players, the game becomes incredibly fun. However, if you try to play solo in a poorly managed squad, the game becomes practically unplayable. The lack of communication between squad members and ineffective squad leaders completely ruins the immersion.
Since the game was free on the other launcher, the servers are constantly full, and sometimes you can't even find space to join your favorite one.
Apart from some stutters (which I managed to work around for the most part), the game is fairly well-optimized. There are also a few optimization guides on YouTube that I highly recommend checking out.
Feel free to add me if you want ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
As of January 2025, there are still rampant bugs with the voice chat. It completely dies minutes into a match, and neither leaving the match nor restarting the game fixes it. For such a team-based game, this is gamebreaking. I can't recommend this game in its current state.
You're going to die.
a lot.
It's going to feel unfair.
The game might feel very slow at first.
You will learn how to move, carefully from cover to cover.
You will learn to spot the enemy at a greater distance than many other games.
You will figure out which way enemy fire is coming from.
You will recognize the sound of enemy and friendly fire.
You may be able to use that sound to find the location of enemy infantry or tanks.
Give it some time, use a mic and talk to veteran players.
You'll soon be terrorizing the enemy back lines, taking down their spawn points, putting up garrisons, hunting tanks, ambushing artillery and supply trucks.
You will look at the new players running through a giant empty field, shake your head, hug the hedgerow and realize you're the veteran now.
Have a good war!
A great spiritual successor to the likes of Day of Defeat and Day of Infamy (we don't talk about Days of War), combined with a very healthy dose of Red Orchestra/Rising Storm, Hell Let Loose innovates the WW2 online FPS formula with unparalelled realism, massive maps with true to life 50v50 combat and an advancement over DOI's squad/commander tactics, with dynamic respawn outposts, supplies, building barricades and vehicles. A must-play if you enjoy hardcore tactical FPS games, and a great rival to Insurgency Sandstorm.
Used to be ok-ish, but now is flooded with console kids that dont communicate, dont think or cooperate with their team.
It's become a game of who can zerg rush a point botter now :(
Hell Let Loose: An Immersive WWII Experience

Pros
Immersive Atmosphere
- Stunning sound design that puts you right in the middle of the battlefield
- Historically accurate recreations of WWII battlefields
- Intense and unpredictable combat scenarios
Realistic Gameplay
- Death can come from anywhere, at any time
- Snipers, bombing runs, and strafing attacks keep you on your toes
- Emphasizes tactical thinking and situational awareness
Communication is Key
- Microphone is essential for gameplay
- Teamwork and coordination are crucial for success
Cons
Steep Learning Curve
- Can be overwhelming for new players
- Requires research and asking questions to fully understand mechanics
Pacing
- Jokingly referred to as a "walking simulator" by some
- Long periods of tension punctuated by intense bursts of action
Final Verdict
Hell Let Loose is a game that demands respect, patience, and dedication. It's not for everyone, but for those who crave a realistic and immersive WWII experience, it's an absolute must-play. The game's emphasis on communication, teamwork, and tactical thinking sets it apart from other shooters on the market.
If you're willing to invest the time to learn its intricacies and can handle the intense, unforgiving nature of combat, Hell Let Loose will reward you with some of the most memorable and adrenaline-pumping moments in gaming. Just remember: keep your head down, your mic on, and your wits about you. See you on the battlefield, soldier!
Some feedback:
- This is a 'more' realistic shooter. You get shot in the torso or head, you are dead with one round.
- Guns are 'realistic' in that aspect too, shooting an MG from the hip is stupid and you won't hit the side of a barn, let alone a player. There is bullet drop and accuracy for weapons... it takes a second to get your gun up (not instant like most FPS) and varies depending on the size of the gun.
- Similarly, no hit indicator, no clear indication the player is dead (ie: nothing tells you he is dead when you shoot them) no markers for enemy players... I am not good at spotting the enemy
- Camouflage is 'realistic' as well, since one-shot one kill encourages players to find a good spot to hunker down and shoot from
- Vehicles like tanks more or less require a full team, driver, gunner, commander in order to be effective
- Turrets turn extremely slow (compared to games like BF), visibility is difficult, but weapons are extremely deadly. A cannon shell into a building clears the building...
- Collaboration between commanders and the squads makes or breaks many games
- Maps are huge, often this results in long runs across the map only to seemingly randomly be shot and have to do it again
- Think foxhole, but FPS and focused on the front line. There are command channels and local voice chat
- Similar to foxhole (the top-down war game), you can build things, structures, spawn points, etc. Provided you / your team has gathered enough resources.
- Overall, the game difficulty is hard... hard learning curve and coordination challenges. The game is focused on more hard-core players.
- The audio is incredible, arguably the best of any FPS
- The team-based is very good and can be a hell of a lot of fun if you had people to work with
Overall, it is a great game, you should approach it more like you are an actual soldier, not an FPS player. This will help.
killing enemy from a distance that they won't even notice you 10/10
being killed without even seeing enemy 10/10
being killed by friendly bombardment 1000/10
