Voxel Interceptor is a very unusual beast, it's a blend of tower defense meets SpaceWar! ripoff. What impressed me is there's a reasonable and welcome level of depth to the game design, from different ships, different movement models, different guns and so on. Unfortunately all of this effort seems to have been wasted on a very poor quality technical implementation and some of the most frustrating vehicle handling I've been offended by in a game.
One important note is that even though this is an amateur project, it does seem to be sincerely and genuinely made. I couldn't find any flipped assets, plagiarism or any other kind of insincere actions from the developer, but unfortunately genuine intentions alone are not enough to produce a brilliant PC gaming experience.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
The game features lazy low-polygon voxel "Minecraft"-like "art", making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. A lot of amateur developers see Minecraft's success and assume it's because it looks bad, not because it had unique and appealing game mechanics, and they try to emulate the success without understanding it. It also happens to be easy, and doesn't need any proper talent in terms of game development/graphic artists etc. That's why reviewers are faced with so many of these terrible games with confrontingly bad graphics. Developers must learn that Minecraft succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
Voxel Interceptor is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 14,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
this game is simple, neat, and fun. It's only .99 cents, that makes it one of the best deals you can find on Steam. Why do you not own this title already?
You notice i've only put in one hour did you?
yeah ok, so what can you spend .99 cents on and have a whole hours worth of fun with?
I mean besides this game of course.
It needs some bug fixes. it's not horrible. maybe worth 1 dollar.
I had my eye on this one a while ago, and I was convinced to buy when I was impressed with how positively the developer responded to feedback.
This is a fun game I like to play in short bursts. It's a straightforward concept - your carrier has a handful of hardpoints on which you can build turrets; meanwhile, you are the active defense in your personal ship. You'll fight a few standard waves of increasing difficulty, followed by a "heavy ship" (boss or mini-boss equivalent). Rinse and repeat. Along the way, you'll upgrade the turrets, unlock new personal ships to use, and upgrade some limited stats on those ships. You can choose from different weapon types on some of the ships you'll unlock - some better against hull, others against shields. All this makes for a gameplay loop that is simple and grindy, but not brain-dead.
Bottom line - it's an inexpensive game that's quite fun.
Fun little game, wish i could build a fleet!
Steam has no Middle Thumb, else it would be middle not Down dear readers.

As wrote on other massage, too hard to play for me this way. Reverse Thrusters are for me a must.
Else a vry nice game for Masochist gamers :) (I am not Maso)
I hold watch on it, to see how it developes.
Maybe I come back.
I have amended my review after the dev made most of the changes I requested, you can see my original review below
Pause Menu added
Quicker Hanger
More resources
This is what the game needed, and it is much better for it. For the price I can now recommend it!

This game seemed interesting however no reviews and not many players so thought I would pick it up in the sale!
It’s basically a tower defense game mixed with a space shoot em up, and I was impressed with the number of updates the developer is doing as well! Shows he cares
However, there is only a decent core game here it needs some work to take it above that level and get people playing.
The main screen has spelling mistakes which is never a good start, however these are things which can be changed easily.
The gameplay isn't bad, with some nice graphics and pumping music. I also quite like the progression system however it is permadeath.
However, the list of things I feel need to change are:
The game needs a pause title as when you load up you are presented with a ship screen then you are instantly attacked, I think once you enter the hanger the game should pause. Also the hanger has about 6 doors which need to close, you get a few seconds between waves and you just don't get the time to repair and upgrade. The Auto dock is terrible the area needs to be bigger to dock too or something too, the auto docking procedure takes AGES!!! It should be a quick fly by and land and back into the battle.
Pause menu for building defenses too as you have to awkwardly fly over the area which is difficult and again in battle just silly.
The controls are a little fiddly, with S being the slow down button but it doesn't reverse so most the time you just have to plow into enemies.
Difficultly and costs of items need lowered, like you destroy a "Boss" and get a few materials like the amount of time it takes you should get something better! So, either lowered or the enemies drop more loot.
