Night Call — нелинейная игра-расследование с захватывающим сюжетом в жанре нуар. Вы не следователь и не полицейский, но у вас есть дар: в салоне вашего такси люди расслабляются. Начинают говорить. Делятся с вами мыслями, эмоциями, рассказывают истории своей жизни — и свои секреты. Для пассажиров вы больше, чем просто водитель: на время вы становитесь их другом, доверенным лицом, помощником — или молчаливым наблюдателем, что способен разглядеть истину за любой маской. Чтобы поймать убийцу, вам предстоит в полной мере воспользоваться своим даром.

Got this game out of curiosity and what a pleasant surprise ! The story of each character and the overall mood are very immersive. I had a hard time managing the amount of taxi runs per night at the beginning but that's easily compensated by the fact that you can redo the levels/stories as many times as you want (which is needed if you want to unlock every character). I completely lost track of time playing it because it builds up the suspense really well. Glad I stumbled upon this game !

I had different expectations before playing, which ended up being a letdown.
The good side:
I really love the artstyle and the animations that come with it. The cutaways from passengers to scenery really add to the mood. The music fits well with the passengers and the mood of whatever the passenger is sharing. It's an interesting concept and I love diving into the diverse and intriguing problems of the different characters.
The bad side:
There is really no investigating, at all, which is a massive letdown. In reality, this is more like a visual novel with the illusion of choice. It didn't bother me much on the first run, but the more I played the more I was letdown. Clues are randomly gathered with the player not really investigating anything, let alone being able to actually read reports or analyze crime scene pictures. Those clues are then put on a board in keywords, which doesn't really explain much about the killer, their motives, how the suspects are related to the case and who is actually guilty.
Thankfully with the difficulty I played on the cop would just either say "are you sure" or she would agree, which made it easy to just guess. It's a shame because I love investigative games, this one just wasn't one.
Spoilers:
For me personally, the endings ended up being incredibly depressing. I was hoping that there would be good endings, so I tried replaying a case and also tried reloading old saves and picking different options when confronting the killer. I always ended up either getting myself killed or the killer ended up dying. It kind of made it feel hopeless, like you're doomed to fail from the start despite the effort you put in. That's not a great feeling.
Recommending it anyway for the fun noir vibes, chill music, fun animations and interesting stories. Just forget about the murder mystery and play freeroam, haha.
Show, don't tell. Where this game can only tell through their conversations, they write extremely well. The most beautiful part of this blank slate protagonist is the way they decorate his dialogue, his grammar, and his demeanor. I don't believe I'll ever witness such beautiful writing as they display in this game. The subject matter is super heavy and political and divisive and so many other things but whenever it is brought we keep being reminded through how the subject matter is presented that it is a character driven story, and every single character except for one is impermanent, and thus the 20 slides of dialogue mean everything to them, and it shows. Every line these characters deliver is packed with tact, meaning, and adds so much to the atmosphere. This game's structure adds so much to every single conversation, and the overall story as well. Like I said earlier, the little time each character has both lends to the power every line needs, but also as soon as you get enraptured by every single conversation, the door opens, they pay the fare, and they struggle with the door to their building, at least a couple times. Sometimes between the moment that we put our foot on the accelerator, and us pushing the brake for the last time, I forget that sometime in the night, there is absolutely a murderer on the loose, and that I am aiming to identify them. I would absolutely recommend this game to anyone who loves the art of writing, who loves the art of creating, who loves the art of visual arts. More people deserve to experience this crazy, wonderful, uncomfortable, weird and interesting masterpiece of media.
剧情好真，玩得停不下来
This game has 2 faces.
One face is you the investigator. And this is total crap. There are no clues to gather. The game automaticaly gatthers them if there are any but some can be false clues. How it works is very illogical. Perhaps is better to just stick to the photos provided and try to pick those as clients as priority. At the end you are being asked to provide a name and that is a leap of faith there as you really have no real clue.
So the investigative part is 1/10
The taxi driver part is more well done but the outrageous thing is that even if you try to work like a dog everyday you are at a loss. And we talking you are at a huge loss. It could be in fact more convenient not work at all. I don't know if the programmers of this game were also drivers in taxis and they have made this game as a form of political protest for their conditions of work. But to me as customer of a game feels like a bad joke. So the taxi driver part although better it's still below average. So it gets a 4/10.
All in all it's a thumbs down. Stay away .
A rather intriguing experience if I'm being honest. A bought it a while ago and left it rot on my library, not giving it much attention until yesterday. I tought, "oh, there's this indie game that I bought and only played 4 minutes, maybe I should give it a try", at that point I didn't even remembered what it was supposed to be about, maybe the only info I retained was that it's kind of a visual novel sort of game.
While entering the game, I felt interested, this game has this noir thing that's very well done, in a place that's totally expected to be set, Paris, and pretending to be a taxi driver solving mysteries sounded like a valid choice for a boring thursday that I spent half the day with a headache before a holiday, so no plans whatsoever to hang out. The interface is simple and well done, inviting you to play the game, or choose which experience you wanna follow, if you wanna go through the story and decipher a case (which isn't that hard, I played it on medium), or you wanna be a common taxi driver and just talk with your clients? You have a possibility either way.
Chose a case and Houssine, the main character, woke up in a hospital bed, rather common ocurrence in games, right? But still, fitting. There I progressed to the tutorial and it went just as any other visual novel, going through loads of dialogues until I faced what it went to be what the game was about, the map and the non linearity of it. Many visual novels go on this path of dialogue after dialogue, a choice here, there, and paths, some with many paths, some with none, but paths. This game is not about paths and branches, but maybe clusters of information that you decide or not to follow through, there's loads of characters, or passengers, to interact and you decide which story you wanna hear, you are the taxi driver and you lead the story to where you wanna go, so if there's a boring interaction, maybe just pick someone else, we have no obligations on this game apart from solving the mystery, and in helping solving it, more than half of the interactions don't really help in it... I'm not saying they aren't worth, because they are.
Anyways, I solved two cases (dead on the first one tho, had to retry) and in all honesty, those weren't the thing that kept me focused, again, the interactions, as a taxi driver, there's loads of interactions and in ways that you really don't expect, characters that are weird in their own unique way, and it maybe feel like filling a void of interaction that I wanted, or even needed after a rough day, some of them uplifting, funny or unexpected, some intriguing, political wise or other themes, and some sad, that makes you reflect on what life is all about. There's loads of information on it and giving yourself the benefit of hearing, like a taxi driver, to every bit of information is fun, feels like a living being insted of a game, maybe even some stories were taken out of a taxi trip, recorded and put in the game, who knows? I guess this game makes me wanna spend a month working as uber just to experience interactions with people and hearing people's life. But maybe that's a tad to much, as we almost always end the day with a negative balance... Is that a reality of being a taxi driver?
Nice character development on the citizen fare of nighttime Paris. Well-written dialogue without any discernible mistakes. Art is fantastic, great style. Enjoyable game. Got a really good feel for the primary character.
pretty fun
This is not the type of thing I usually play. But I had an itch for a dark noir style detective game and after asking ChatGPT for some recommendations it mentioned this. I would never have heard of it otherwise but I'm really glad that I caught it on sale and gave it a try. It's deeply immersive and has almost the exact atmosphere I was looking for. I love the end of day cutscene where your character is lying on his back in bed smoking a cigarette before falling asleep. It perfectly captures the feeling of exhaustion and effort that it takes to get through each night. Learning about the other citizens of the city is interesting and there are some great interactions. I'm glad I gave this a try.
This game has it's own vibe, you'll be immersed into this game and the night life of a cab driver and you won't even realize until you check the time on your phone IRL. And don't even get me started on the soundtracks, next level. 10/10.
