The description says Overcomplicated tutorial, I say Overcomplicated game as well.. 2 minutes into the game and meh
game instantly crashes with a popup error
Gun-Running War Dogs is an extremely poor quality "gun running" spreadsheet simulator. It's click and grind heavy as you buy and sell weapons, punctuated by RNG heavy events like deals going bad and so on... the premise for the game makes it sound far better than it really is, as the game design and technical implementation here are pure garbage. It really is a spreadsheet simulator as 99% of the gameplay time is spent staring at badly rendered spreadsheets in the game interface.
It's also buggy as hell and generally doesn't work properly, with numerous inevitable gamebreaking crashes and bugs. But then again, the devs here are highly shady, we'll get into their associations later. First let's go into why nobody should touch this game on its own merits.
Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics.
Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the GameMaker Studio construction kit/toolset. This is a very poor quality toolset favoured by amateur developers as it's cheap and requires little in the way of development skill, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. GameMaker Studio is most commonly used to make retro pixel shovelware and cash grabs.
The very poor quality of this game puts it squarely on-par with ancient 1990's Flash/Java games, and given it's 2023 (and this was released not so far back in 2017), gamers and the industry expect and deserve better than this kind of low effort shovelware.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Gun-Running War Dogs didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for playing long enough to buy a "bargain" purchase (trivial to do), and only around 28 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game.
It's also important to note the "developer" here has connections to shady asset flippers (they work very closely with the scammers at Mihai Morosanu) who show an organised pattern to scam and defraud gamers with fake reviews and asset flipping the work of others for profit. While reviews are about the games, gamers should be informed when developers act unethically. Whether these connections are the same developer using multiple accounts, or just working closely with other unethical developers, gamers should be warned about the harm to gamers by this developer and their associates. Buying games from unethical developers/publishers puts your money at risk.
Gun-Running War Dogs is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend.
There's not much depth into it.
It's not really a sim, it's more like a clicker with a few options.
Blackjack, accumulate capital, stock up and sign gun deals.
Poorly done,
game breaking, forced Termination Bug at certain point of end game.
Level Up achievements not working at all.
Don't waste your time on this abandoned Clickfest.

Quite addicitve gameplay. Too bad it doesn't have any form of endgame though. The leaderboards are nice but at some point you can keep making unlimited money without much effort. Good value for £0.39.
A cool "buy-sell-buy more" game.
Easy to get in, hard to get out as soon as the dough starts piling up.
Well worth the half-dollar I've got it for, but I guess even full price would be a fair deal.
However, we all know you can't really value "fun" you get from playing a game since it's a very subjective matter.
Would recommend this one to anyone looking for a cheap casual game to play while waiting for wifey's "come to bed" call.
10/10
Have you ever wanted to start your buy and sell gun business? Gun-Running War Dogs lets you do that. I saw this game on sale for like 0.69 USD and decided to pick it up because it looked interesting. I instantly loved the art style, mechanics and the background music that plays ingame.
You start by signing deals and buying the guns from the black market in order to make profit. You start with deals that earn you 100-500 USD profits and as you progress, you start getting 20000+ USD deals after earning more rating stars, which is basically your reputation in the market.
Managing your office is really cool and I love the variety of items and rewards each level of it offers. You move offices and get new items (hookers and bodyguards/thugs on couches, big as$ 70" TVs, bongs, tables, file cabins and so on) to throw your money on and decorate your office. You also earn weapon and self protection upgrades for your character and bodyguards as you level up your office.
The firefights are fun and balanced imho. It can be either you or the dealer you're buying from who starts it. But sometimes they can be really annoying because you could lose a lot of money if the dealer has no guns and decides to open fire on you in an attempt to rob you.
Overall, the game is really cool, fun and addicting! Even though I got it on sale, it is more than worth its full price. Get it and start your gun dealing empire!
Pros:
+Fun gameplay
+Addictive
+Minigames
+Achievements
+Leveling
Cons:
-Not much other gameplay
-Leveling may cost a bit of money later on
Synopsis: Great game! It was really gun gor the time playing it! I'd definately return to it later when I'm bored one day. Simple yet complex at the same time, it makes for a random but captivating game (not only that, but you can play blackjack). I definately would recommend this game if you're looking for a timekiller!
Pretty addicting sim for profit whores. If you like training your reflexes and stroking your virtual wallet filled with virtual dollars after selling virtual guns to virtual terrorists for virtual war/genocide/revolution then this is virtually made for you.
To me it feels like the older, more ambitious brother of the classic game "Dope Wars" but instead of losing all your PCP on the bus you build and upgrade your gun smuggling empire (Including hired goons!).
My only critique is that the spreadsheet UI doesn't allow you to re-sort the info at all, so looking for a certain gun or price means checking the whole list every time, but this might be a choice by the developers to add a little "Where's Waldo" gameplay or to keep it from being too easy. It doesn't slow the flow at all, it's just feels strange to have a spreadsheet system that doesn't let you organize or optimize the spreadsheet in any way.
If you enjoy mercantile/trading/economic games It's 100% worth the dollar.

TLDR: Thin gameplay relying on grind, chance and patience. Not a fan of spreadsheet management. Would recommend Sheltered for better sidescroll ressource management, survival and questing.

Presents like a sidescroll adventure but beneath the thin visual engine all you have is a trading clicker. There are no hotspots to manage or locations. You just have a list of things you can buy lower and then can sell higher. Along with lottery style mechanics for bartering and dealing on the black market. Aim of game is simply to grind ressources up, decorate your office which levels you up and allows you to hire a larger crew. Within a short time you max the game out and you run out of content. Menus are amateurish. Audio is very limited.
Picked this up after it was mentioned on RPS - good price for a couple hours fun, it's like a clicker game - watch your money go up!
Not sure about the balance of the game though, after a while you can just open fire on any deal and pretty much win. Not sure I'm playing it the right way :P also once you reach the final unlocks there doesn't seem to be much to do except go up in the leaderboard.
You can easily get your moneys worth from this game. It's not complicated, it's not very hard, but there's enough challenge to be interesting for a few hours im sure. It looks great, and murdering any idiot that comes with less bodyguards than you is satisfying.
I hope the dev makes more of these low price, niche games.
This game is worth the dollar or when it's on sale, even cheaper. Easy to get into, easy to play. To me, I find it easier to buy the guns first, then find the guys who want them for a good price. If you get the guns discounted, and find someone who is paying a little more than over, you make a good profit fast. But when you get good bodyguards, sometimes you don't even have to pay for the guns....hehehe
it's exactly what it says it is. a 70 cent spreadsheet simulator. Buy low, make deals. deliver the goods. make profit. with some elements of gameplay thrown in to mix it up and add risk. not a bad game for under a buck.
