Feels and looks great, reminds me of my elementary school years.
Excellent iteration of a timeless classic.
tangrams deluxe contains 243 tangram puzzles. the goal is to place 7 shapes within an outline and without overlap to create various bigger shapes resembling animals, buildings, letters, numbers and other things. using the same shapes over and over again might sound repetitive, and while it most definitely is, it's also pretty cool to see how many variations the developers came up with, and the drawings after solved puzzles bring the shapes to life, which is a really nice touch.
controls work very well, hold left click to move pieces, rotate with right click or mouse wheel while holding a piece, or left or right click or mouse wheel while the cursor is above a piece. controller also works, and no need to be 100% precise with placement, close enough is close enough, though pieces not snapping to their place, whether they're in the right place or not, can be a potential issue for some players.
levels are divided into various categories and all of them are available from the get-go, no need to unlock anything. no level numbers, sadly, and while a few puzzles might take a bit longer than others if you can't immediately see what should go where, it's basically the same thing 200+ times without any kind of difficulty curve or variety.
simple but elegant presentation, I really liked the doodles after completing a level, but audio is beyond annoying and repetitive. there are separate volume settings and a toggle for shadows (the light bulb icon, which isn't for hints as I first thought), neither of which gets saved between sessions. volume settings will be where you left them, but after turning down both music and sound after a few minutes, I had to do it again every time I started the game. windowed mode is also available.
it takes about 4-5 hours to solve everything, I enjoyed it and it's a good amount of content, you'll probably have enough of tangrams for a while. not that there are many other options available on steam.
The pieces don't snap in place with the outer edge and the "shadow" is the exact same color as the "guide" so you can never line things up...perfectly. Very distracting.
The concept still works, same as it did when it was sold in person, but the execution got in the way of the fun.
Those plastic triangles you find in christmas crackers sometimes is now a chill puzzle game. Gets the brain going without ever becoming stressful. I count 243 levels in total but they all boil down to getting the two big triangles down first, putting the other triangles down, then swearing at either the purple or green piece for not fitting like you first thought. Audio sounds like I’m building a house in The Sims. Hit the button that looks like a help button to turn of the annoying shadows.
If you're a fan of puzzles, you'll enjoy this game.
I used to love tangrams when I was a kid, and it is still entertaining now.
I like this game for several reasons:
1. Relaxing and Clear - easy to learn
2. There are NO levels - doesn't get harder (which can sometimes be a good thing)
3. There is NO Timer on any level - makes it more relaxing.
4. Great for young kids. After you do a couple, some of the fits become more obvious. Good if you are not looking for a challenge.
Somebody made a comment about the art work. The art work is at a professional level, just quite modern. Check the show shots to see if this goes with your person taste.
Enjoyable puzzle game, not too taxing but still keeps the brain working nicely
There's nothing really wrong with Tangrams Deluxe, it's just a bit too simple. There's 200 tangram puzzles, they are all virtually the same, they don't really increase in complexity or difficulty. There isn't even a change in art style or music or anything. It's relaxing but doesn't do enough to keep the attention going.
