Medieval Shopkeeper Simulator is a medieval management, exploration and adventure game currently under development by Breakfast Studio.
Create, manage and expand your merchant empire, explore the borders of the world and properly manage your stores to become the most important trader in the kingdom.
Manage your stores, organize your workers, deliver orders, exchange and create unique items, unlock new skills and advantages, hire warriors for adventures, explore the world, resist global events like a plague or a war, plan your financial strategy supporting or confronting the crown and the church, alter the economy of the kingdom and its laws and face consequences of your decisions.
Depending on the king or queen that governs, there will be laws that will suit you more or less depending on your way of playing. The world of MSS reacts to every decision and even prices in stores, punishing mistakes with your reputation. Be careful and make wise decisions, visit the seer to reveal future events and prepare yourself to them.
KNOWN ISSUES:
There are some problems you might experience in the Alpha version of the game:
- bugs
- freezing
- loss of saved games
If the essential game mechanics is attractive and you want to give your support to Medieval Shopkeeper Simulator while you are in early access, we would love to have you. Otherwise, we recommend waiting until MSS exceeds the alpha stage when the game is more stable, and the game mechanics are more developed. I am committed to converting Medieval Shopkeeper Simulator into the best possible game, and your help during this early phase of development is crucial for us to achieve our goal.
If it intrigues you to know where we will take Medieval Shopkeeper Simulator, consult our roadmap and the development vlogs that I publish several times per month.

Good Concept. Good Game. i just dont know what i am looking at. i cannot make out items or objects and the like. struggle to enjoy it on that retro animation of the items. They need to be redone so you can see what it is your buying selling looking at.
ill come back to it them and change my comments. cheers GG
game is dead.

This game was abandoned along time ago. Developer is a fraud and this game should be taken of steam. I only just remembered about it while looking for a older game i had to play
Okay, I haven't even gotten into the game to give it a fully appreciated review. The reason this game is a getting a thumbs down from me, your not given any information on how to play. Like at all. You have to rely on a guide in the community tab. The devs seriously need to put control guide in the game. You can't even look at the key binds. Very very frustrating.
This game has been abandoned by the solo dev. When it first came out it seemed like it had promise, but in its current state it's not really playable, as save files get messed up meaning anything you do won't be there if you leave and come back. I hope to see the dev return to this game in the future to fullfill it's potential, but for now I would warn you to not waste your money on an unfinished/unplayable game
I received this game for free a year ago. I wish I could refund the 8 hrs (not in one sitting and over several saves) I spent on it. once you hit a point in the game there is no reason to keep going. The game has some serious issues. Please don't waste your time and money on this game.
dont get me wrong the idea behind this game and the gameplay itself is really good but the Devs have completely abandoned it over a year ago. no more updates for this unfinished game. they more or less scammed everyone who spent cash on this game without any chance of getting it back. so if you dont mind the fact its abandoned. and if u see this game on sale for a good % off. then maybe give it a try but personaly. there is not enough content to know that its abandoned and justify that i spent the full money on this game. devs like this are the reason people steer clear away from early access and the reason some early access games that are infact really good and wont be abandoned just dont have enough people buying the game to make the funding to continue. look into each game you buy and the devs the run the game. it lets you have an insite of if its going to be abandoned, pay to win, toxic or just a bad game/rip off of another game.
I've been really looking forwards to this game and I hadn't read any reviews that made me rethink it, so I grabbed it on sale.
unfortunately, there's some clear bugs, and the dev seems to have become overwhelmed by the game, so it's no longer being updated, and it's likely that item duplication/etc will be there indefinitely. If they do show up I will try to update this review, though!
I have a lot of sympathy and affection for indy devs, but please if you are considering purchasing this game, know that it's more of a toy than a game presently! There are plenty of fun mechanics to play around with and gameplay to learn, but it's not exactly the full, polished game it would like to be, and it's not exactly priced for the current content either. Best of luck to the dev despite everything.
A good game that is similar (as it seems to me) stylistically to teraria. The style is pleasant. Interesting business development simulator. And as for a cheap game it was amazing that there is still an open world
Loads of bugs.
Every now and again the stall outside your house will be replaced with a random stall, generally when you log out and log back in. New stall has no levels and no upgrades that previously purchased and no way to swap your old stall back into it's original position.
Also due to the fact that items never de-spawn they tend to get lost in random locations from time to time. This wouldn't be an issue, but each item spinning on the ground that gets lost takes up processing power and eventually you end up having 2fps and having to restart the game because you can't pick up items that have been lost behind walls.
Going to give this another go tonight because I love the game, very chilled and relaxing... Until the game bends you over and rides you to brown town.
This game has a lot of potential... buried very deep.
Please find a UI/UX designer, because right now, as it is, it couldn't be less intuitive
The game feels like an iteration of "The price is right".
I have no clue why half of the UI buttons are disabled for me e.g. report a bug, which I found btw.
In general, it feels like a chore to play this game, because even the simplest things are done horribly wrong. e.g. if you press Esc, it doesn't close your current window, it opens a menu, which can only be closed by pressing "Resume"
This game has a great base with a great idea, graphics are decent, there are many items to acquire, gameplay is generally good.
However due to some bugs, the game is very unpleasant to play right now, for example my save doesn't save my pets and many items from my warehouse, which leads you to significant loss in progress, so ideally you'd want to play at least 4 hours in a row to get decent progress.
If major bugs are fixed, I'll definitely recommend.
I'm getting a lot of enjoyment out of this game. The visuals are stylishly appealing, the concept is solid, and the idea is strong.
You start out living in your poor peasant uncle's house selling things you find laying on the ground around town (worms, rocks, herbs etc.) and work your way to royalty.
Relaxing and entertaining, just needs some more content, the dev seems very passionate so I'm excited to see how this game evolves.
Wow. So I basically played non-stop for a couple of hours and saved my game here and there. I unlocked a hell of a lot of recipes, ordered A LOT of materials, placed so many work benches, and overall earned a lot of money. I saved my game at day 8 and continued as usual. I logged in the next day and almost everything is GONE. My money is the same, the day is still day 8, but all the new work benches I placed disappeared and all of my recipes, sandwhiches and expensive items TOO. This happened already THREE TIMES but i chose to ignore it at first. If this glitch isnt fixed then the entire game is essentially dead!
This game taught me to be an expert trader, so I refunded the game for a profit!
The game has a nice concept but it's got too many problems to be even remotely fun.
Here are the dealbreakers
The UI is messy in an interface heavy game.
The controls are needlessly complex. Why doesn't escape back out of a menu? Why don't number keys change inventory?
Everything is "drifty", when you stop holding a directional key your character keeps moving a bit. The inventory GUI tab slides after you drag it making it very hard to position.
The world is colorful but completely minimum effort when examined. Characters aren't animated with even ONE extra frame, they just wiggle.
The world is low-poly which seems alright at first but seems inconsistent since it has no texture.
When it comes to selling things to customers? Yet more unintuitive UI plagues every interaction.
You can set down important items (like the key to a house) and it will despawn leaving said house locked forever.
The one music track the plays outside will drive you mad.
I can't reccomend this game because I could barely play it. It's confusing, frustrating, buggy, and just feels bad to play.
On the plus side, I did enjoy being given a pet at the start.

The game mentioned being made by one person I think, if you read this review I have one massive piece of advice for you.
Focus.
Cut out all the UI showing "planned" content and all the extra incomplete features and polish the core of the game so that standing behind a stall while selling things to people is EASY and FUN to do.
Abandoned and buggy! it's really a shame, cause this game had great potential.
Edit:
Ok, the developer has returned. Lets see how much love he pours into his project!
Menus are bugged, I have high hopes for the game in the future and will follow this game, but in it's current state I can not recommend it as I can't get past the tutorial in most playthroughs. Might rebuy if this issue is fixed, but for now the money is going towards something I can enjoy playing.
I'll try it again later, but at this stage it's practically unplayable. The tutorial turned itself off partway through with no way to get it back, which locked me out of doing basic things.
very fun, tutorial is a little confusing,
also the saving mechanism needs to have an upgrade, i had to restart twice now because i safed quit the game and when i got back to it all my items or half my items where just gone.
also i wouldn't show up as discovered anymore either.
if that is fixed, a great game.
Great game so far, took a minute to figure out how everything works, I accidentally closed the tutorial. Graphics are pretty interesting, controls are good. Sound effects are good, I like how everybody grunts as you pass by them. Looking forward to seeing future updates.
Game is so much fun and has a ton of potential!
Definitely hope the dev will be able to keep up the great work he did so far.
About the game
Gameplay: The concept is pretty straightforward, you are a merchant and you gotta expand and grow your shop.
The core loop is very simple yet fun! You gather, craft, trade, order items and then sell stuff in your shop to get money, with the money you expand your shop, buy item, pay taxes etc.
The hunger mechanic controls your interactions with customers, if you wanna haggle, keep them waiting, try to convince them to buy more or to buy another thing you will consume hunger. You will first find yourself telling a single customer you don't have the item he wants, then having he wait to check if you have the new item, then asking if he wants more and then haggling all together, just to realized you burned 50% of your hunger on a single customer, maybe just to sell him some rocks :D
It's a lot of fun to discover the nuances of the mechanics, the game explains how it plays out in a simple and clear way in the tutorial but then you still have the chance to dig around and really understands how to use the diferent mechanics.
The energy is another pool that you consume to craft items, this is pretty straightforward.
Art wise:
I love the mix of 3D lowpoly and pixel art for characters/Items, has a very unique character to it.
The game is a really early alpha stage so obviously it will get more content and more polish. I definitely look forward to future updates
Alright. First to review... woohoo!
UPDATED REVIEW!
Alright so the developer actually gave an extremely speedy response to my earlier cries of desparation and despair, saving me from the torments of having no mouse wheel because I'm a filthy casual and I play on a laptop with a mouse! Theater and drama aside, that was cool as liquid nitrogen Dev. Huge shoutout to you. Sorry I didn't see it sooner.
So the game progressed for me and (WARNING! THIS GAME IS VERY EARLY ALPHA! TAKE CAUTION IF THAT'S NOT YOUR THING!) I managed to get almost all the way through the tutorial!
It appears to me that this game is a work in progress and very much so. Currently, due to either a bug or perhaps missing content ('missing' meaning not added to the game yet) I am unable to complete step 10/11 of the tutorial. We still haven't gotten far with this however, as stated in an earlier review, this game shows a massive amount of potential.
Pros:
You have the name your price gun. Not a literal object but you actually set your own prices for your merchandise. I can only assume that this means you will need to respond to supply and demand for your in-game product. This is a massive innovation in games such as these (as far as I am aware, this is the -only- game that does it). Normal supply and demand comes down to 'they buy this for this set price and if you don't sell something else, you're boned'. Innovation and risk taking: Check.
You have the ability to craft items and sell them. I'm not sure how this will affect the gameplay yet however, I can assume (based on the premise) that this means you'll be able to sell high dollar items rather than just sort of collecting them.
The controls are pretty damn smooth. Switching items is a thing that a few people are complaining about from what I can see as most games use a 1-9 hotbar switch. Personally, I don't mind using the comma or period key on my keyboard to switch items that way though I can see the appeal in the other system.
Neutral:
For those of you who get really hyped on graphics being uber realistic, this is not the game for you. This game has a certain... rustic charm that can be appreciated by an older gamer like myself. Though my little brother (we are twenty years apart) refuses to play merely because of the graphics. This isn't a con to everyone. But it is a preference that can be hard to get over. Personally, I enjoy the graphics.
Cons:
This game is certainly unfinished. I'm not sure if this is a bug or not but I have tried to use the 'Report a Bug' button on the in-game menu and for whatever reason this button doesn't seem to work. This could also just be a bug and the irony of that statement isn't lost on me.
Certain menu buttons seem either missing or bugged. For example, in step 10/11 of the tutorial there is no green checkbox to complete this step; making it impossible to proceed as far as I am aware (if this is not a bug and I'm just dumb, please leave a comment for me and help me out. Respect your elders ya'll.).
Some of the tutorial steps are somewhat vague. I believe step 6/11 or maybe 7/11 asks the user to use a furnace crafting kit in their inventory. This seems straight forwards to most but for some, like myself, we'll spend twenty minutes trying to figure this out (this is an exageration internet, don't impale me yet).
Overall, I would personally rate the game as such:
Potential: 11/10, light this shit up again!
Current content: 6/10 though I fully expect this to rapidly improve just based on what I've seen so far.
Controls: 9/10 as there is a little to be desired though the game is still very early alpha and this is subject to change, I'm sure.
Dev Support: 11/10 Dev, you are awesome as all hell. If you need a player to review your work, offer suggestions, play-test or kiss babies on the forehead for your election to President, let me know.
Player base: 9/10 because the player base does matter. It's why I don't play COD. You guys are a step above everyone else.
SIDE NOTE: I know this may not matter to the lot of you but I only very rarely write reviews. Rarely meaning despite how many games are in my account, I believe I've written three. And this includes many non-steam games. For me to write a positive review is even rarer. This Dev knows what the fuck he's doing.
That said....
I cannot reccomend buying the game YET especially for those of you whom do not take kindly to Alpha builds. There is little content FOR NOW and thusly it makes it difficult to enjoy the game for many people; my brother being a great example. However, I actually like this game well enough that not only am I writing a review but I am considering streaming this game JUST to advertise its presence and developers.
Guys, treat this Dev with the utmost respect and support them. Do not follow blindly and do not cater to their every whim and throw money at them. That never solves anything. But this Dev? He's got a great head on his shoulders and by God, he's gonna go far.
Dev, keep treating your player base like this and we won't have a problem in the world. Mind you, this isn't a call to say the customer is always right. We aren't. Half the time we have no idea what we're talking about. But suggestions to the UI are important and the control scheme should always be familiar and friendly to players with all walks of life and hardware. It is exceptional the minute amount of time that brought about an update for this game. I am thoroughly impressed not by only the product but by the customer service.
NOW LET'S GO SELL SOME DAMN LOGS!
