good game
Really enjoyed the game. Apple's M1 is not supported and since I upgraded my Mac, the game freezes after five or ten minutes. Based on old comments from the developers, there are no plans to accommodate the M1, which is probably fair, but makes me sad. I wish I could still play the game.
This is quite in depth, with logistics and balancing production being central.
I keep coming back to the game.
very fun and enjoyable game would love to play ROL2 when it comes out.
I like, very neat
Got this thinking lower end machines would have no issue given the low poly look.
The trees are literal triangles & my GPU is maxed out.
- lowest settings
- smallest map
- dropped res to 720p
can't imagine its fun in late game when there's a lot more stuff to render.
Like this game a lot. Wish the dev kept supporting it because lots of simple things could be improved on that would make this a real gem. Maybe RoI2 will be.
a fun logistics game that scratched my strategy itch when i looking for something that's not too time consuming. can take your time to pause and plan and play in small doses or in a whole day. deceptively simple at first but becomes complex mid to late game especially end game prototypes.
learning curve is a bit steep but can be done with the great guides found in steam community. wished the AI was more aggressive in messing with your markets *shrugs*
overall i would recommend it for those who like logistics games and seeing your supply chain from raw resource to final product. it worked for me and reminds me some how of RailRoad Tycoon (the first and imo best one).
Enjoy!
Addictive. Modernized OpenTTD. I am so late to play this gem.
I got it at a 86% discount and I think it is worth that price (Normal price being almost 50 bucks of writing this), however it's usual price is far too much for what is a very basic economic simulator game. The logistics of this game especially so, it feels like it could use more tweaks and depth to them especially if you like having creativity in your logistical designs.
For example roads in this game are very basic, no roundabouts or traffic lights nor customisation of any of the intersections either. Without those features it becomes a lot harder to min max the output of certain buildings, especially logistical hubs like warehouses that I constantly had to struggle with getting the throughput as cost efficient as possible. Once I figured out that maximum it did not really improve all too much in the end game since the upgrades you get are very lacking in any substantial improvements despite the high costs and time invested in getting the high end products.
Another big thing is the lack of a lot of the expected quality of life features that I would expect in a almost 50 buck game like moving your buildings. Which made me rage quit for a couple hours once I figured the only way to move my warehouse because traffic was getting too backed up and it was placed near a city, was to bulldoze it. Then after placing it in a better spot I had to reset all the routes manually not only from it's routes to other places but all the previous routes other places had going to it. Which felt really punishing for me personally especially since I had not been made aware I'd have to basically future proof all my logistics.
On top of that is the constant amount of micromanaging which albeit gives you something to do when u start, it becomes really annoying when u have larger operations. Which wouldn't be too bad of a problem if there wasn't so many things that constantly reset my settings like for example. Setting a higher range for a warehouse reset all the toggled off routes that warehouse so I had to manually toggle them off again. Among other issues when it comes to path finding and the horror that is road traffic.
The business side of things seemed rather lacking, the other company don't do much aside from buy land before you so you can no longer use it, otherwise the interactions are pretty limited. It was relatively easy to keep a good steady cash flow and as long as you are able to buy at least one permit you were pretty much golden for the rest of the game to the point I'd almost forgot that I wasn't alone. That and buying all the stocks in other company don't feel rewarding enough to go for them unless I was in such a lead where I had enough pocket change to just buy em out and then steal their land (afaik u can't use their buildings even after buying them out which felt unrewarding for the effort I went to get them on my first real playthrough)
Lastly my biggest gripe is the lack of a proper tutorial, there is one but it did not do a good job at explaining all the features of the game nor does the game make it really obvious how best to do things. For example I was never told how to take loans, I looked in the financial report, wasn't there, I looked in my budget tab, not there either. I had to look online and find out you had to go to your headquarters to take out a loan which felt convoluted to me. Which wouldn't be a big issue by itself but this game really does not teach you half of the mechanics of the game like zeppelins and docks for example. Nor how to even find customers for some of the high end goods and it did not go into any detail about having to upgrade your towns either. So you end up having to go online for a lot of different things and since this is not a well known franchise you sometimes have to go looking real deep to the point where it starts eating up your playtime.
It is still worth getting at a discount as it does at least attempt to scratch a specific itch I've been having (that old transport tycoon X business/eco sim itch) even if it doesn't really do the job. It does the job well enough to the point where I don't regret my purchase.
Its very fun creating the ugliest rail network of all time
Played for a couple of hours, and this game seems pretty casual and dry. Will play more later.
Really wanted to like it but its just too complex
Decent game a lot to learn, not sure if its worth the original $40 NZD but on special for $6 so totally worth! I look forward to seeing the second instalment of the game.
Good game
Encountered several bugs in 2 hours
Fun and addictive. It has a lot of similarity with Transport Fever 2, but looks simpler. However I like the handling of stock better here. Plenty of tech to work through. I'm busy for the next few months. Now I don't have time to write anymore, because I have to set up more production....
The game doesn't even work on macos. Gets stuck on "Thanks, penguins" screen.
this game is buggy, vary unoptimized also to managing the trains in mid to late game is horrible due to the lack of granularity on how to manage items for the logistics of the game
Meh, I would rather play OpenTTD.
I have a hard time recommending this game. While I will admit that the graphics are cute and the fundamental game play can be very fun, I can only admit that is the case for the first few hours. Let me preface any negatives with the understanding that the creators of this game clearly had love for it, that much is certainly clear, they made a game that they liked. However, it feels like they completely gave up on it after they created it, and while some add ons like the stock market was great and added to the gameplay, it didn't fundamentally change anything about the game to make it fun in the long term.
Lets tackle the worst offenses this game has. The immediate is that it is overly complex and expects you to micromanage everything. This game lacks several quality of life features that many other games in the genre has, such as automation of many of the tasks. When you begin a game, you expect to be micromanaging tasks because it is easy to do, but as your business empire expands, you will still need to be doing all of that. There are features in the game such as warehouses that make this easier, but it never makes it fun or simpler. Additionally, the game has a pretty terrible tutorial. Where in many tycoon games, or city type strategy games like this, they'll let you play the tutorial yourself and either let it transition to the main game or jump across multiple skips of a main game to show you how to handle everything at each stage and how to take advantage of something in the midgame you would never know about otherwise, this game doesn't do that. This game shows you how to place buildings (and doesn't let you deviate from that AT ALL, it MUST go in the exact place they want it exactly how they want it) but it also ends almost immediately and doesn't show you much other than that. Interestingly, the game DOES have an in-game tutorial in their "campaign" (which is essentially just sandbox mode, another mode you can play), I cannot rank it because it bugged out twice and wouldn't let me progress in either of the games I tried playing, you can luckily turn it off because the in-game tutorial also locks fundamental game play features behind it.
Once I got past that, I actually did have a lot of fun with it for a few hours. Setting up supply lanes, expanding my tech tree to allow for more complex things to be made, and even completely buying up one of my competitors on the stock market and inheriting their mess of a company. However, what I quickly learned was that everything I experienced in my first few hours was just the entire game. It didn't get any more interesting or complex, you could aim for the end game "proto-types" but there is little point to doing so. Setting up a chicken farm and selling stuff from that is just as complex as setting up the production of a car, except the car is just more tedious due to the micromanaging. There is a reason on 2% of players have "beaten" the game by creating the car prototype, it is just boring and not worth it to do so. Is it really worth trying to manually set up 15 different supply lines just so you can make 10 million dollars a month compared to 5? I wouldn't say it is.
There is even a very sad story if you look into it behind this game. The developers, Dapper Penguin, and their lead "Alex", tried really hard to provide for their studio and be successes. However, because they didn't put more effort into this game after release and instead jumped into making another over promised and overly complex game, they saw middling reviews and a quick dry up in sales, something that started to kill their studio. My heart broke when I read that Alex took a mortgage out on his house to keep the studio afloat and then still had to sell Rise of Industry's entire IP to Kasedo games, their publisher, just to try and release a new game that never happened. On top of that, he sold the IP for less than $100,000 dollars and doesn't see a penny of it anymore. The studio still closed and the game is not getting further updates. This is a heartbreaking story, and there is more too it, but a sad story around the game doesn't change the feelings I have about how it plays.
Ultimately, this isn't a BAD game, it is just a mid one. It gets old pretty fast, unless you are super into making supply lines all by yourself. If you love tycoon/capitalism games, and this seems up your alley, then get it on a deep sale and I can recommend it. Otherwise, I would say to avoid this one.
I like this game in small doses. I probably play it for a few hours every now and again. Its good but not exceptional. If you can get it on sale then great, try it.
Very attractive visually, and very much within my wheelhouse as a logistics/business/transportation simulation game - sadly, it has tended to crash as the supply chains grow. I can build out one solid network, but going any further slows everything down.
the game breaks so often that its too much sunk cost for time. probably one of the most buggy sim games you could play, and the devs don't seem to have done much with fixing them since the same bugs i get now were the same ones i had years ago when i first played. not worth the money, and definitely not worth the wasted time.
