Developed by Probe Entertainment and Iguana Entertainment and first released in 1998 for PlayStation, PC and Nintendo 64, Forsaken was a vision of a dystopian future where science has gone out of control. Scavengers from all over the known worlds have come to Earth to loot the remains of the technology that can found in underground tunnels. But beware! You must fight your way past automated defenses and the scum of the universe to find the treasures hidden on each level.
Forsaken is a 3D first-person shooter in which the player has complete 360-degree range of freedom. In a far-off future you play as a scavenger searching through the underground tunnels for weapons and treasures. But you face dangers from automated defense systems and other scavengers.

This game is so sick! Of course I'm biased because I never played Descent or others but it really is a blast. I love the 6D0F movement which to me is the evolution in FPS after Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament. Lots of characters, stages, extra stages, secrets galore, tough, banging Drum n Bass/Techno/Industrial, extras and whatnot.
The only negatives are that Nightdive abandoned the game where it needed patching. I had some crashes and there were issues with the crystals in a few stages. Sometimes the crystal was supposed to appear but didn't. Other times I got it but it didn't register. Check the discussions page. The big nono here is that there aren't any bots in multiplayer. Hugh missed opportunity but overall I'm happy with the package.
This game owns. I never played the original, so the free-flying FPS gameplay feels fresh to me. The ship has that little bit of momentum that makes movement a joy and artform. It's a fun challenge trying to shoot at the moving enemies and getting behind cover to avoid rocket tank attacks. The level design is very fun! At times the objectives can be a bit arcane (c'mon, bank vault!!!) but overall they hold up quite well. The music is super sick too.
In 2025 this game feels fresh and unique.
i played Forsaken years ago on a Windows XP Machine, with the Classic Disk. I Made it all the way to the end on EASY, I'm not that good to have done it any other way!! I Realized there was a Remastered Version and Got interested in playing again on a Windows 10 Machine. Works and Looks Great!! Very Entertaining!! I enjoy running in all the places the game has to offer!! Thanks to Steam too!!
No, deathmatch with bots and unlockable drivers like the original. sad!
Nostalgia bait. Runs well. Gameplay loop still holds up. Keyboard and mouse controls work perfectly right out the gate.
Classic early in FPS genre. I love it.
have you remastered your foresken yet?
A Blast from the past <3

I remember playing this gem back in 1998 and how wonderful it was.
Nightdive studios did a great job with remastering this game so I can play it on my 4K TV and using Xbox controller, the soundtrack , the motions and everything is really smooth and refreshing.
honestly i kinda like this more than descent
I enjoy it because nostalgia. Nightdive is very good at remastering old games.
I would not recommend it to anyone normally though.
No one plays multiplayer, there are no discount multipacks to get your friends into it; and single player is literally a "Where the **** do I go" but with a time limit.
Short of nostalgia; the only reason to actually play this game in the modern day is maybe if you can coerce a bunch of people to play together for a couple of evenings and it's on super sale.
Crashes whenever I tried to change any options and randomly crashed when in levels. Completely unplayable
Always loved this game since I was very young. Had it on the PS1 years ago.
Nice to see it's been polished up and taken care of.
I would like to see the option to manually change which music track is playing per level though, as some are different from the PS1 version.
Still one of the best 6DoF games on the planet. If you want to test your first person shooter skills this is the game that will do it.
A fun 6DOF shooter from the good ol’ days of the PS1 generation, remastered and polished up by Nightdive for modern computers to work flawlessly. I don’t know if you’ve ever had the misfortune in recent times to purchase a game on Steam designed for Windows 95/98 and try to get it to run on a modern system with Windows 10/11, but usually the games won’t even launch at all without installing some kind of fan-made patch or mod. Honestly, Steam shouldn’t sell those old games without a huge warning mentioning that the game doesn’t run without tweaks. There’s quite a few people who have switched to PC from console in the last few years and they may not be aware of this issue.
This game is a fun flying shooter that is reminiscent of Descent, although I would say that this has better graphics (even before it was remastered). There’s not much of a narrative going on in this game, but it does have some environmental storytelling and is worth playing regardless. It also runs well on the Steam Deck, right out of the box. If you’re getting older like me and you remember this game from the 90s, you should enjoy experiencing it again in the best version available and experiencing the nostalgia of playing something that is heavy with those 1990s vibes that make the game look and feel so different from any game released in modern times. Pick it up on sale, I got it for less than $10 during one of the big seasonal sales.
Best dam game I've ever played
This game is exactly how I remembered it. Everything runs fine. Turns are smooth and very easy to control. Controls are fine. Enemy spawning is exactly the same all the old sounds are spot on.
I guess I'd recommend it cause its pretty cool on PC and seeing how much stuff was on the PS version that wasnt in the N64v is crazy how much different of a game it is. Literally everything is different, every level, every weapon, every menu and character and all the missiles are slow af. But I am EXTREMELY disappointed that there is no AI in Multiplayer and its not popular enough to have more than 1 friend to play it with.
takes me back to the 64 version. not quite the same but thats a good thing. you only start off with 3 characters unlocked but youll eventually unlock more as you play. very fun, but my only complaint would be the lack of graphical settings. every once in a while the game will stutter, usually whenever im too close to an enemy exploding and id like to be able to tweak the settings a little bit to try and eliminate it. all in all, very worth. too bad not too many play it online, would be interested in playing some of the multiplayer modes. still worth the price and if you can catch it on sale, seriously consider picking it up if you like old school games like this.
Descent who? A childhood dream come true. I had a demo CD with a gameplay video of Forsaken back in 1998 (I think it was "Stealth II") and since then, getting my hands on Forsaken was a mission I didn't know I had. i remember putting together Lego imitations of the bikers in Forsaken and pretending I was picking up powerups and blasting stuff. Now that I finally have access to the game, I am treated to a retro and delightful 6DOF shooter that is a blast to play - even on Linux.
