If you're a HUGE Bioshock fan, you might find something to take away from this game. It very, very much pulls inspiration from those games, even with the upgrades having 2D cartoon animations. Basically, this game is Soviet Bioshock, for lack of a better descriptor.
If you're just looking for a good game in its own right... You may find yourself wanting. There are definitely glimmers of greatness here, but you have to absolutely dig to find them.
The trailers show you running around inside and out, fighting a variety of robots - that's true after you slog through like 6 hours of corridors, and even then they throw you out into a nest of cameras and endlessly respawning enemies. The map finally becomes something you can use, only to find out it doesn't actually do anything - no legend, no waypoints and no real way to scale it for a way to figure out where you are. I'm honestly not sure why the map is there.
The melee combat in this game is just *bad*. Enemies have unblockable attacks that knock you down that they telegraph with a red circle - except that flash is about half a second, so you just eat shit anyways. Combine that with the respawning cameras that love to flood the zone with enemies and you're gonna be more frustrated than engaged.
This game is also riddled with bugs. Don't pause during dialogue, because the game will just go on without you. Do you have subtitles on? Well, they won't match what's being said. More annoyingly, multiple times now I've done a stealth takedown on a robot, only for them not to die and the takedown SFX to loop infinitely. The only way to fix this is to restart the game... Which wouldn't be an issue if you didn't have to save at designated checkpoints that aren't listed on the freaking map. So, I just spent about 30 minutes desperately trying to find a save station so I could fix the game. Oh, and some of the upgrades don't work as intended. Fuck that.
Finally... The worst offender is the writing. It's bad. Edgy 14 year old bad. Every third word is swearing. Our character is a sarcastic moron. When you've gotten the point of the exchange, there are still 10 more sentences to go and you just start mashing skip. You'll find yourself doing that a lot when you meet the upgrade robot, which is just desperate for your character to have sex with it. It's boorish, it's uncomfortable and it's just plain embarrassing to sit though.
For what it's worth, I keep finding myself booting this sucker up to give it another shot. It's absolutely carried by its art direction, which is great. There are a bunch of systems in place that when they work, it feels awesome... But they rarely work (looking at you, stealth and parkouring...) and often feel at odds with each other.
Get on deep discount if you're looking to try it out.
After putting in ~100 hours on both Xbox and PC combined, I can safely say it is 100% worth it. Would I say it's flawless? No. Would I say it's among by top 3 favorite games of all time? No. It has multiple flaws, like it's open world, the voice acting (English), and infinitely respawning enemies. But at the same time, it has an amazing story, and EXTREMELY good combat, that I can safely say is better than Bioshock. I'd highly recommend going in blind for the best experience. 8/10, would 100% recommend.
8/10[Worth a try]

Yet another game where Steam needs a "meh" response.
Open world and infinitely re-spawning robots ruined a really enjoyable shooter.
The fact that sneak is completely useless makes these open world areas not enjoyable and just a chore to rush through.
I enjoyed the dialogue, I enjoyed my character being a moody git, I enjoyed the creature designs and looting system (basis but fun) but the open world kills any enjoyment.
It's a shame that the open world comes several hours into the game so you can't get a refund.
This is an above average game with some very frustrating mechanics, but overall it's good. One of it's best features is how gorgeous the environment looks (mostly outside), and the optimization is perfect. This is one of the few games I have played that I can run on ultra graphics and I didn't get ANY stutter, I'm also tired of people (and devs) blaming my 2,500$ CPU, it should be able to handle it. Just by the look and feel of it, I can tell the devs put their all into it. This game's story involves an alternate future in which by the year 1955, the USSR had cities in the sky (Bioshock anyone?) as well as robots that do all the work and then the robots start killing everyone. That being said, I feel this is just a video game so I don't really get the politics surrounding it. I didn't feel bad or raw about Fallout 3 smack talking communism, It's just a game and while I don't like annexation in any form, there is little I could do about it and I don't think the devs of this game were in on it. THAT being said, the term comrade is used a lot in this game, but it weirds me out how they say it, sounds like comraid, which makes me think of a bug killing aerosol or a refreshing drink with electrolytes (try a COMR-AID? We swear it doesn't have Olympic winning steroids in it!) Dumb joke, I know. This game has it's frustrations, but I like it enough.
All style, no substance.
Cool setting, but somehow feels empty and hollow. Combat is basic and boring, level progression is just as bad. Please god shut that glove up, no character in any game needs to speak this much.
Put my stalker 2 play through on hold until the game is actually finished so i figured i'd finally give this a go....not disappointed!
This game is just amazing
From blood to the Gore to the Grapichs and the storyline it's just an amazing XP Highly Recommended on Sale
And this game is special as it came out in a year where mostly Junk was made in the Gaming industry So good on this game 10\10
Cool ideas made not cool with excessive voice lines (which have a charm to them, but there is just too much), and a boring combat system. There is no weight to anything that happens in the game, it feels almost soulless. I may try again if it drops below $20 but not an enjoyable buy at $25 when I could buy RE2 for that much.
This is a really good game. It's got a good story (with a ton of attention to detail and beautiful environments), good combat, good weapon upgrade and crafting system (not too complication, but varied enough to try different play styles), and is reasonably open-world.
The ending was a little abrupt, but worth getting and playing all the way through.
Hell yes this game, what can i say about this game. It is not the most unique it is not the most action packed and the story is a convoluted mess, BUT it does everything in gameplay right. Side jump button to doge, all resources refunded when you break down items, ability's that synergies, basic climbing mechanics, puzzle rooms, upgrades you can easily max by the end of the game and a small kind of open world to explore. I can't recommend this enough.
The same ........ as with any other modern shooter.
Endless pointless running and unnecessary fighting with to many enemies just to lengthen the game as it seems.
The story becomes obsolete after so much bla bla bla.
Pros
-Setting, Russian references, Baba Yaga, comedy
Cons
-Looting is extremely tedious (sometimes completely broken with certain containers being either unlootable or spawning behind walls that are never accessible. example is the chest behind a stone wall by the waterfall during the morning express mission), enemies literally never stop spawning/getting repaired giving you no time for looking at the map/looting, lack of power variety, movement is horrible with dashing being your only option for quicker movement, combat gets extremely easy no matter what difficulty, exploration is punished by not explaining that certain areas are locked behind story progression yet other areas get completely locked out by story progression (you never know if you should fully explore or continue story before exploring, constantly having to walk SLOW and giving enemies the L loser symbol so you make sure you didn't miss every little detail/miss a blueprint. This list could continue, but the game is just so tedious to play, that it ruins the story progression and setting.
great game, immersive, if it's on sale I highly recommend getting at least gold edition.
gameplay once you get the hang of it is 8/10
soundtracks are easily 9/10, comparable to doom for sure
story is 8/10, several twists and turns
art direction 10/10
optimization seems fine, max settings, 1440p, no DLSS 100fps on a 3080
The dialog is unbearable and constant.
The combat is awkward and clunky.
Atomic Heart feels like a game that was made in the late 2000s or early 2010s with modern graphics, and that isn't a bad thing. The world that Atomic Heart presents you with is a fantastic science fiction alternate history world that in many ways had me feeling the same way that I did when experiencing Rapture from Bioshock for the first time. Mundfish did an amazing job of creating the world and lore of Atomic Heart, and throughout my multiple playthroughs, I searched for every terminal I could find to learn more about the world and lore. Combat in Atomic Heart is also very reminiscent of Bioshock, where you are equipped with a wide assortment of weapons and powers. The story itself is one of the game's weaker points and doesn't really do anything that hasn't already been done by games before but was still interesting enough that I wanted to see where it would take me, and by the time I finished it, I wasn't disappointed. Overall I would say that Atomic Heart is an 8/10 game and well worth experiencing.
Interesting game with very nice graphics. Worth the money.
Do not include system configuration in cloud sync. Moving between two not-identical systems, the wrong configuration gets applied, creating significant headaches when configuring settings like DLSS FG and RTX, which require game restarts to apply.
Apparently someone at Mundfish needs to hear this -3 confirmations to enable FG is absolute insanity.
- faced lots of bugs
- The script is overloaded with tons of silly jokes
Just not my cup of tea
The combat is extremely janky and doesn't flow very well at all. Also, I played on the easiest difficulty (I like playing games for the story) and was still getting swarmed and killed off super fast like I was in hard mode...
I was excited to play this game when it was released but put off for a while due to some poor reviews, but this is honestly one of the best game I have ever played. Reminds me of Wolfenstein, a game I love, yet i'd recommend this first
I'll start with the good: Great graphics, little to no stuttering (recommend updating graphics driver), bliss to loot, guns are versatile, and the crafting system allows a bunch of play styles.
What was alright: (Slight spoilers?) The story line in certain instances feels rushed and the protagonists "he's meh boss!!" mind sight gets old even with the overwhelming evidence against that thought process. Ending does feels rushed, we deserve more for the good ending.
The combat? Some of those bots are annoying as shit man. Getting rocketed and then have melee charging at you constantly is frustrating. Sometimes you get locked against a wall while you have them all pounding into you and it feels so cheap. You don't really experience this so much in the beginning but once you get to certain "tiers" of the story, they'll throw everything at you.
What was bad: They provide us a huge open world to explore and it feels like we get PUNISHED for exploring it. Countless bots aggro onto you and with the perfect mix of cameras + repair bots, you'll never clear them and even have alarms go off to increase their numbers. I only got through two of the extra polygon testing labs before I stopped because it was so frustrating. Just spend run the story so I wouldn't have to deal with it.
Additionally, when you skip dialogue why do we have to hear the sped up speech? Just do what the button fucking says, SKIP lmfao.
If I had to rate this game, I'd give it a 6.5-7/10. It's worth a playthrough if it's on sale.
Currently I live in a post-Soviet country and Atomic Heart was a really unique experience to me.
The story is immersive, oddly satisfying puzzle-levels design for a FPS game and great voice acting (I'm playing in Russian voice-over with English subtitles). The reason I mentioned the part about living in a post-Soviet country is because the game has a lot of elements that reminded me of those times. Old Russian music, old Russian cars, old Soviet cartoons (Nu Pogodi) Soviet architecture, hell even the voice actors contributed to it.
The environment is absolutely well made to the point where I'd spend the time admiring the surroundings, and even restart the level if I missed something. Usually, when playing games I just rush through the story and be done with it, but as I said, this game is unique.
To conclude, Atomic Heart is a great game and it would probably have even a bigger effect if you ever had the chance to experience the Soviet life. Ignore all of the biased criticism, as they are obviously hate-oriented just because the developers are Russian and apparently they somehow fund the war, quite stupid accusations / prejudgment if you ask me.
Tried it, but its no fun to me. The gameplay seems unreasonable hectic while not providing good feedback in combat.
This is my no means a full review, as I was just able to play for 2 hours.
Will refund it, even tough I got it on sale for 20 bucks.
The whole DLC policy is also not appealing to me.
Even on easy level became too hard very soon. Overal very interesting aestetics.
I tried. Couldn't deal with the cringe writing, and the constant annoying reminders from CHAR-LES about the objectives literally highlighted everywhere... Then I gave up. Gameplay was fun though.
game having no jump action should head right back to the garbage can. Looked so clean and nice when the 1st trailer came out. what a letdown. The Intro was so cheesy and it felt so scripted that I have no intention to go on.

I couldn't deal with the dialogue and voice acting, both are loose stool water tier.
World building/design & the environment is top notch but gameplay is bland and the writing is atrocious. This is the first time I have stopped playing a game partway because the dialogue is that grating and abrasive.
Gameplay and music are outstanding. HOWEVER, the ending felt like the devs gave up towards the end, I felt like I didn't know what was happening until the end of the game, then they make you make a decision which alters the entire ending. Just felt lazy and dumb.
Such a weird cool game, played and finished it on xbox but got it on sale for Steam. Some odd choices in the writing seemed to have put a lot of people off, but I found it humorous and over the top.
Haven't played the DLC but the main game was a solid 8/10. Beautiful graphics and decent performance. The gameplay is like Bioshock lite with an open world patrolled by pretty cool enemies.
The main issue for me was the powers didn't seem to add much and switching them was cumbersome (at least on controller). Also, the open world has a security mechanic for sending bots after you and repairing things you've destroyed and it is a pain to deal with honestly. Even so I would put it up there with some of the other Post-Soviet shooter series; Metro and Stalker.
A great combination between Wolfenstien, Bioshock, and its own twists on the gameplay
Not perfect, but quite good. And great job on capturing the soviet retro futuristic atmosphere.
I find this game to be on repeat through alot of gameplay you are always fighting the same bots over and over and it tends to get boring I actually ended up refunding because the price seems super steep for the gameplay but you could be different than me
I enjoyed it. Definitely get this game at a sale and then it's worth playing.
Amazing game, underrated in my opinion. It's of course not without its flaws, playing with Russian VA and subs is a must. It must also be said that the open world sections suffered from an overabundance of enemies that respawned too quickly, making killing them unsatisfying.
Still these are issues that I could overlook because what really sold me was the game's architecture and the environments. Without a doubt some of the most spectacular I have seen in any game. This game is almost like an interactive exhibit of constructivist and modernist architecture with a deranged atomic age twist.
It was also fun to notice all the nods to ordinary Soviet objects and structures that have been made to be futuristic. Like the laser barriers that are a reference to Soviet window gratings or the flying dacha. I also appreciated the ugly playgrounds, tires in the ground and the amazing modernist bus stops. You can tell the devs are architecture nerds with a deep appreciation of their country's architectural heritage and that really speaks to me.
All in all this is an incredible showing for a studio's first game!
Crispy critters / 10
Honestly, it’s a really good game. I felt like I was in a fever dream the whole time, but it was honestly solid. The graphics are amazing too, with all of the abilities. It’s a very abstract, hard game that can be weird at times, but I love the Russian vibes and how real it can look. Solid 9.2—only because I felt like I got lost a little in some of the puzzles.
Atomic Heart reminds me of the best of Fall Out 4 and Bioshock series. I just recently jumped back in to play and the gameplay is coming back to me slowly but surely. Another good thing is the game doesn't always throw its hardest enemies all the time giving me time to "bust the rust". (still playing)
Love it, storyline is fantastic and attention to detail is just *chefs-kiss*. Would 10/10 recommend
Someone of the best, interesting, most unique world building in all of fiction. Game play is fun with the dodge mechanic allowing for some bullet hell style boss fights while not feeling too difficult, however this means most boss are bullet sponges where having lots of healing is all you really need to beat them. Great since of progression as enemies in the beginning seem unkillable but slowly get more easy as you progress the game. Enemies also have amazing, snappy animation that I haven't seen in any other game and is done in such a way to still feel predictable and fun to fight against. which Story is honesty hard to follow and dialog is laughable most of the time but interesting characters makes up for it. The charm this game has however is just unbeatable, as the vibes and the silly ass catch phrases make this game a joy to play through. Twins are also prime goon material and I will NEVER forgive glove (He is still my best friend). Hope DLC bring story to a nice close and showcases the effect of the robots going crazy had on the world.
A very weird game. Not quite a good shooter, mixed with a shallow imitation of an immersive sim, mixed with some light first person platforming/ melee combat, all buoyed by an admittedly impressive visual language/ world design. I'm kind of hooked, and would definitely recommend for a game very unlike typical games of the genres I mentioned above. Its a really cool world that explores some interesting ideas/ themes, even if the final execution on gameplay & story is a bit clunky. Would also definitely recommend playing in the Russian Dubs, helps make everything more immersive/ serious for me
the concept is cool. the writing is abysmal and dare i say cringe-worthy. the gameplay gets annoying, the boss designs are very cool though. the most satisfying thing is how you collect items from desks etc, it makes a good noise and i like the way they just fly to you. both endings leave much to be desired - if the writing was better maybe they would be more profound but they just fall flat.
I only knew about the game through clips of the hot robot twins. I was pleasantly surprised when I bought the game on sale (including DLCs).
Good:
-Atmosphere/ setting
The Russian futuristic/ dystopian alternative timeline is awesome. The whole AI and technology becoming more a part of our lives is super relevant today. Also, I love the charm that the developers have put into the game. Really good Russian music (classic remixes/ EDM/ Rock) everywhere in the game. Also, the atmosphere and setting of talking corpses, robots doing their jobs, and USSR/ futuristic architecture constantly keeps you immersed.
-Game play
You have a good selection for arsenals throughout the game. You have weapons that use energy (used these a lot to save ammo), normal guns (pistol, AK, shotgun, rocket launcher), and melee weapons. Most of all of them can be upgraded to be pretty relevant and have additional abilities. You also have abilities/ skill trees that you can invest points into to do a bunch of cool stuff. I personally stuck with polymer jet and freeze for the hella CC, and they have really cheap upgrades that carry you throughout the game. The enemies in the over world/ surface respawn, while the enemies underground in the testing facilities/ story missions do not. Overall the combat did not get too stale and you have a good variety of enemies to slaughter and test your gear on.
P.S. there are puzzles sprinkled throughout the game kinda like portal, if you're into that kinda stuff.
Could Use Work:
-Limited replayability
As mentioned above, the story enemies do not respawn, including the bosses. The bosses are probably the most engaging/ rewarding/ new experience you will get when playing the game. There are only a few, with the main story you get an introduction to each of them (they are sick) and in only a small number the testing grounds you get to fight some of them once again with a twist. If each testing ground had a boss encounter at the end, that would brighten my day so much.
Also, the map of Atomic Heart is open world and beautiful but you have no incentive to explore it. The story just carries you from point A to point B. The testing grounds are the only reason for you to revisit past locations or to look deeper at your surroundings. There are also areas blocked off to the player that are visible on the massive map of the overworld. For example, if they opened up areas to the gorgeous giant statue landmarks and had some secret encounters there (bosses are hype) players would be much more willing to explore and keep playing.
-DLC/ Newgame+
Trapped in Limbo is CS surfing with new weapon skins and a continuation of one of the two possible main story endings. Not exactly what i was looking for, but not the worst when the gold edition is on sale.
First off, when you start Newgame+ or the Annihilation Instinct DLC you only keep a portion of what you unlocked during the main game. You always keep all your character abilities/ upgrades which is nice, except in DLC where you're kinda forced into using the new DLC abilities. Also, you keep none of the DLC weapons/ abilities you unlocked to use in the main game (its basically its own separate story/ sub-game). In Newgame+ you keep all your weapons, but basically lose your weapon upgrades making you search for them again.
I played the game on the normal difficulty and got a good challenge (dying my fair share), so i decided to play Newgame+ after visiting all of the testing grounds in normal mode. The hard mode was kinda the same as the normal mode when you're already fully kitted, so I felt no drive and stopped playing after a bit.
I have high hopes for DLC#3 to keep scratching that Atomic Heart Itch! and a few updates so i can keep exploring the base game...
Does it have quirks and issues? Sure. Is it still worth it? Absolutely.
The story is solid, not life-changing, but definitely enjoyable and it’s clearly left open for a sequel. Unfortunately, it’s held back by some clunky dialogue. I played in English, so I can’t speak for the Russian dub, though I’ve heard it’s much better and fixes most of the issues. The English audio suffers from awkward timing, misplaced emphasis, and some odd word choices, which unintentionally undercut serious story moments and diminish the otherwise superb atmosphere. It’s still playable, but I wish I’d taken the time to switch to Russian.
The graphics are among the most beautiful I’ve ever seen, and the environments never get stale. World design is incredibly unique and a delight to explore. Whether you're fighting for survival in an underground lab, wandering through the vast complex, or stuck in limbo, the environment is always stunning, with enemies and characters that fit the world perfectly.
The music is equally amazing, and the overall sound design is fantastic. I won’t spoil much, but the soundtrack really shines when you're up against a horde of enemies charging at you.
Combat is fun and challenging. Gunplay feels solid, and even the melee combat, which you’ll rely on for large portions of the game, is decent for an FPS. Sometimes, however, fighting a lot of enemies at once can cause you to get cornered and even glitched into static objects, making escape impossible.
Enemies are varied, each with specific weaknesses and resistances, and the bosses, while mostly on the easier side, still offer some fun battles. Their difficulty doesn’t always scale consistently, meaning that the first boss you'll encounter is actually harder than most of the other bosses you'll face throughout the game.
As beautiful as the world is, it’s semi-open and doesn’t offer many rewards for exploration. On higher difficulties, you’ll often encounter more enemies than you can scavenge or craft ammo and med-packs for afterward. The main incentive to explore is finding weapon upgrade recipes, but these aren’t essential to progress; most are minor upgrades like sights or magazine extensions that don’t feel worth the extra risk.
The two available DLCs are short but enjoyable. The first DLC is more grounded and offers a continuation of the main game’s strengths. The second, set in the “limbo” world you’ll recognize from the main game, is more experimental. Most players agree that while the first DLC isn’t groundbreaking, it’s much stronger than the second. Both DLCs, priced at $10 each, feel a bit overpriced for only 2-3 hours of content.
TL;DR: 8.5/10. A great game that deserves more praise. Grab the Gold Edition on sale if the third DLC ever arrives.
Very creative, great world and some good boss fights.
Average shooting and story, but creepy unsettling atmosphere makes up for it. Play it only for the environment and unique gameplay. Devs took massive creative risks which payoff. Definitely worth playing once; buy it on sale.
Rating: 5/7
There's a fun game in here, but after 7 hours, I wasn't sure if it was going to be worth the time it would take for me to find it. The combat, for example, feels like one of those 'it really picks up once you get a bunch of upgrades!'
It's definitely an homage to Bioshock and Half-Life (both of which I love), but there's just enough jank to keep me from falling in love with it. The writing (in particular the protagonist) is also cringe-worthy.
I really liked the game; overall, I thought it was a good game. However, the downside is that it's very short. I thought something was going to happen in the final scene, and I ended up feeling quite disappointed
The story is pretty dull and predictable, but the world-building is amazing. The combat is pretty fun. The protagonist is crass, but he grows on you over time.

I was surprised at how much i liked the game, when content on youtube and such really didnt appeal to me, but now i feel myself quite invested and wondering what comes with the next dlc and how the story will progress/end.
You might want to buy this in a sale and try it out, steam has that handy dandy refund feature if you are unhappy with a purchase (remember to use 2 hour timer if you might want to refund)
