I find this game to be on repeat through alot of gameplay you are always fighting the same bots over and over and it tends to get boring I actually ended up refunding because the price seems super steep for the gameplay but you could be different than me
I enjoyed it. Definitely get this game at a sale and then it's worth playing.
Amazing game, underrated in my opinion. It's of course not without its flaws, playing with Russian VA and subs is a must. It must also be said that the open world sections suffered from an overabundance of enemies that respawned too quickly, making killing them unsatisfying.
Still these are issues that I could overlook because what really sold me was the game's architecture and the environments. Without a doubt some of the most spectacular I have seen in any game. This game is almost like an interactive exhibit of constructivist and modernist architecture with a deranged atomic age twist.
It was also fun to notice all the nods to ordinary Soviet objects and structures that have been made to be futuristic. Like the laser barriers that are a reference to Soviet window gratings or the flying dacha. I also appreciated the ugly playgrounds, tires in the ground and the amazing modernist bus stops. You can tell the devs are architecture nerds with a deep appreciation of their country's architectural heritage and that really speaks to me.
All in all this is an incredible showing for a studio's first game!
Crispy critters / 10
Honestly, it’s a really good game. I felt like I was in a fever dream the whole time, but it was honestly solid. The graphics are amazing too, with all of the abilities. It’s a very abstract, hard game that can be weird at times, but I love the Russian vibes and how real it can look. Solid 9.2—only because I felt like I got lost a little in some of the puzzles.
Atomic Heart reminds me of the best of Fall Out 4 and Bioshock series. I just recently jumped back in to play and the gameplay is coming back to me slowly but surely. Another good thing is the game doesn't always throw its hardest enemies all the time giving me time to "bust the rust". (still playing)
Love it, storyline is fantastic and attention to detail is just *chefs-kiss*. Would 10/10 recommend
Someone of the best, interesting, most unique world building in all of fiction. Game play is fun with the dodge mechanic allowing for some bullet hell style boss fights while not feeling too difficult, however this means most boss are bullet sponges where having lots of healing is all you really need to beat them. Great since of progression as enemies in the beginning seem unkillable but slowly get more easy as you progress the game. Enemies also have amazing, snappy animation that I haven't seen in any other game and is done in such a way to still feel predictable and fun to fight against. which Story is honesty hard to follow and dialog is laughable most of the time but interesting characters makes up for it. The charm this game has however is just unbeatable, as the vibes and the silly ass catch phrases make this game a joy to play through. Twins are also prime goon material and I will NEVER forgive glove (He is still my best friend). Hope DLC bring story to a nice close and showcases the effect of the robots going crazy had on the world.
A very weird game. Not quite a good shooter, mixed with a shallow imitation of an immersive sim, mixed with some light first person platforming/ melee combat, all buoyed by an admittedly impressive visual language/ world design. I'm kind of hooked, and would definitely recommend for a game very unlike typical games of the genres I mentioned above. Its a really cool world that explores some interesting ideas/ themes, even if the final execution on gameplay & story is a bit clunky. Would also definitely recommend playing in the Russian Dubs, helps make everything more immersive/ serious for me
the concept is cool. the writing is abysmal and dare i say cringe-worthy. the gameplay gets annoying, the boss designs are very cool though. the most satisfying thing is how you collect items from desks etc, it makes a good noise and i like the way they just fly to you. both endings leave much to be desired - if the writing was better maybe they would be more profound but they just fall flat.
I only knew about the game through clips of the hot robot twins. I was pleasantly surprised when I bought the game on sale (including DLCs).
Good:
-Atmosphere/ setting
The Russian futuristic/ dystopian alternative timeline is awesome. The whole AI and technology becoming more a part of our lives is super relevant today. Also, I love the charm that the developers have put into the game. Really good Russian music (classic remixes/ EDM/ Rock) everywhere in the game. Also, the atmosphere and setting of talking corpses, robots doing their jobs, and USSR/ futuristic architecture constantly keeps you immersed.
-Game play
You have a good selection for arsenals throughout the game. You have weapons that use energy (used these a lot to save ammo), normal guns (pistol, AK, shotgun, rocket launcher), and melee weapons. Most of all of them can be upgraded to be pretty relevant and have additional abilities. You also have abilities/ skill trees that you can invest points into to do a bunch of cool stuff. I personally stuck with polymer jet and freeze for the hella CC, and they have really cheap upgrades that carry you throughout the game. The enemies in the over world/ surface respawn, while the enemies underground in the testing facilities/ story missions do not. Overall the combat did not get too stale and you have a good variety of enemies to slaughter and test your gear on.
P.S. there are puzzles sprinkled throughout the game kinda like portal, if you're into that kinda stuff.
Could Use Work:
-Limited replayability
As mentioned above, the story enemies do not respawn, including the bosses. The bosses are probably the most engaging/ rewarding/ new experience you will get when playing the game. There are only a few, with the main story you get an introduction to each of them (they are sick) and in only a small number the testing grounds you get to fight some of them once again with a twist. If each testing ground had a boss encounter at the end, that would brighten my day so much.
Also, the map of Atomic Heart is open world and beautiful but you have no incentive to explore it. The story just carries you from point A to point B. The testing grounds are the only reason for you to revisit past locations or to look deeper at your surroundings. There are also areas blocked off to the player that are visible on the massive map of the overworld. For example, if they opened up areas to the gorgeous giant statue landmarks and had some secret encounters there (bosses are hype) players would be much more willing to explore and keep playing.
-DLC/ Newgame+
Trapped in Limbo is CS surfing with new weapon skins and a continuation of one of the two possible main story endings. Not exactly what i was looking for, but not the worst when the gold edition is on sale.
First off, when you start Newgame+ or the Annihilation Instinct DLC you only keep a portion of what you unlocked during the main game. You always keep all your character abilities/ upgrades which is nice, except in DLC where you're kinda forced into using the new DLC abilities. Also, you keep none of the DLC weapons/ abilities you unlocked to use in the main game (its basically its own separate story/ sub-game). In Newgame+ you keep all your weapons, but basically lose your weapon upgrades making you search for them again.
I played the game on the normal difficulty and got a good challenge (dying my fair share), so i decided to play Newgame+ after visiting all of the testing grounds in normal mode. The hard mode was kinda the same as the normal mode when you're already fully kitted, so I felt no drive and stopped playing after a bit.
I have high hopes for DLC#3 to keep scratching that Atomic Heart Itch! and a few updates so i can keep exploring the base game...
Does it have quirks and issues? Sure. Is it still worth it? Absolutely.
The story is solid, not life-changing, but definitely enjoyable and it’s clearly left open for a sequel. Unfortunately, it’s held back by some clunky dialogue. I played in English, so I can’t speak for the Russian dub, though I’ve heard it’s much better and fixes most of the issues. The English audio suffers from awkward timing, misplaced emphasis, and some odd word choices, which unintentionally undercut serious story moments and diminish the otherwise superb atmosphere. It’s still playable, but I wish I’d taken the time to switch to Russian.
The graphics are among the most beautiful I’ve ever seen, and the environments never get stale. World design is incredibly unique and a delight to explore. Whether you're fighting for survival in an underground lab, wandering through the vast complex, or stuck in limbo, the environment is always stunning, with enemies and characters that fit the world perfectly.
The music is equally amazing, and the overall sound design is fantastic. I won’t spoil much, but the soundtrack really shines when you're up against a horde of enemies charging at you.
Combat is fun and challenging. Gunplay feels solid, and even the melee combat, which you’ll rely on for large portions of the game, is decent for an FPS. Sometimes, however, fighting a lot of enemies at once can cause you to get cornered and even glitched into static objects, making escape impossible.
Enemies are varied, each with specific weaknesses and resistances, and the bosses, while mostly on the easier side, still offer some fun battles. Their difficulty doesn’t always scale consistently, meaning that the first boss you'll encounter is actually harder than most of the other bosses you'll face throughout the game.
As beautiful as the world is, it’s semi-open and doesn’t offer many rewards for exploration. On higher difficulties, you’ll often encounter more enemies than you can scavenge or craft ammo and med-packs for afterward. The main incentive to explore is finding weapon upgrade recipes, but these aren’t essential to progress; most are minor upgrades like sights or magazine extensions that don’t feel worth the extra risk.
The two available DLCs are short but enjoyable. The first DLC is more grounded and offers a continuation of the main game’s strengths. The second, set in the “limbo” world you’ll recognize from the main game, is more experimental. Most players agree that while the first DLC isn’t groundbreaking, it’s much stronger than the second. Both DLCs, priced at $10 each, feel a bit overpriced for only 2-3 hours of content.
TL;DR: 8.5/10. A great game that deserves more praise. Grab the Gold Edition on sale if the third DLC ever arrives.
There's a fun game in here, but after 7 hours, I wasn't sure if it was going to be worth the time it would take for me to find it. The combat, for example, feels like one of those 'it really picks up once you get a bunch of upgrades!'
It's definitely an homage to Bioshock and Half-Life (both of which I love), but there's just enough jank to keep me from falling in love with it. The writing (in particular the protagonist) is also cringe-worthy.
I really liked the game; overall, I thought it was a good game. However, the downside is that it's very short. I thought something was going to happen in the final scene, and I ended up feeling quite disappointed
The story is pretty dull and predictable, but the world-building is amazing. The combat is pretty fun. The protagonist is crass, but he grows on you over time.

I was surprised at how much i liked the game, when content on youtube and such really didnt appeal to me, but now i feel myself quite invested and wondering what comes with the next dlc and how the story will progress/end.
You might want to buy this in a sale and try it out, steam has that handy dandy refund feature if you are unhappy with a purchase (remember to use 2 hour timer if you might want to refund)
Surpassed my expectation, even though my expectation was already high for this game. It is very detailed!
The devs did a very good job on world building, animations, arts, and gameplay. Very polished! Sure it has Bioshock vibes but they really do have their own unique stuffs going on. The gore in this game reminds me of wolfenstein a little bit, loved it. Some people complained about the dialogue of the protagonist, saying he talks too much but honestly it doesn't brother me, I have company as a glove and protagonist talking in the background so the game doesn't feel dry, it is kinda balanced things out for me. With a lot of upgrades and weapons, skills, things to explore, this game is truly worth its price!
My experiences
-at first the game threw a lot of stuff at me and I didn't know what to do with the looting and stuffs but after 1-3 hours in I got a hung of it, it wasn't too complicated as I thought
-I have to mention bioshock again lol, this game got me very immersed and invested, sometimes I got creeps from the robots like bioshock freaks when I first played, it brought back so much memories.
Average game and mechanics. You can feel a big inspiration from Bioshock. But overall it's not that bad. 6/10.
I loved this game so much!!!
Definetly going to be one of my favourite. It has everything, great story (that also works as a conspirecy in real life). Many plot twists thats makes you question every extra piece of information.
Also weapon and skill upgrade options are great, it has semi open word which works really well.
And i loved this weird dystopian vibe, kinda like bioshock infinite or we happy few.
Wish the ending was dragged out a bit longer. Also the meele weapon Zvezdochka is way too strong.
Atomic Heart is a good game with brilliant visuals and runs well too.
Its a semi open world game with Bioshock vibes set in a Soviet style.
This game has mechanics that are inconsistent. It has puzzles that don't respect your time as a player and have no purpose other than to extend the amount of time that you play. The setting of the story is a neat idea, but I couldn't care less about the story.
It was an okayish expierence to me storywise. Nothing groundbreaking to tale about a conflict with a state-run facility.
Astheticly it is low science-fiction about atom and molecule science along with socialist classism.
The characters in the game are doing their part of being social with you and giving you short briefs about the current story on what to do next.
The npcs in the game have a historicizism doctrine view of the world (do your own research, what that would mean).
Absolutely surprised by this game! Fantastic feeling movement and combat with beautiful graphics! I got mine on sale and was very happy with the purchase.
Alright, now that I've finished the main storyline it's probably the best time to give a review. This game is (frustratingly) almost great. The early marketing material, the art design, the actual gameplay, are all amazing in their own right. The setting of a robot-run society in an alternate soviet union is just great and the weapons are fun, unique, and satisfying to use.
That is, when you get to use them. There are enough (unskippable) cutscenes, extented dialog, and head-bangingly-repetitive fetch quests in this game that I would guess 30-50% of the gameplay is actually what you would expect from a first-person RPG shooter like this one. Some of the cutscenes are so unbelievably long for no other reason than, what I can only guess, to clock out the hours you'll spend in here. This isn't a joke, the first 1.5-2 hours of gameplay is a walking simulator....bookended by a similar 1.5 hrs of walking simulator between the second to last, and then final boss fights. The game even introduces TWO unique and interesting new areas between these boss events but you don't do anything more than sit back and watch the dialogue between characters. Not sure if this got rushed out at the last minute and we lost that content but what a waste of good environments. Maybe they are included in the DLC but it doesn't feel worth it.
There's a new game+ option that would be interesting but I can't even bring myself to think about walking through the whole bullshit start again...followed by all the other absurdly-long story moments. Cut that shit down or give an option to skip and I'd be happy. Between that, there are 8-12 hrs of actual fun gameplay but once you figure out any waypoint could mean settling in for a half-hour look at the scenery, it sort of sucks the fun out of it.
Don't buy this, I know it looks cool and the ideas are great, but don't make the same mistake I made. This felt like being teased for 22 hours with the promise of actual gameplay just to get repeatably slapped in the face with nonsense.
Honestly one of the best games I've played in awhile!!! And I've played some great games!!! Wish it was a little longer...
"Finally" a game that actually feels polished. If you liked Bioshock, Portal, Half life, Darkwood, Wolfenstein, or Doom (possibly We Happy Few) you'll likely enjoy this.
There's a very large tutorial area in the beginning, but once you find yourself in a town with cameras and bots everywhere, that's really when the game starts.
Excellent!
Only buy at 60% off. Great Story, feel, visually the game is a masterpiece. Poor implementation of what could be a really cool game. Repedative gameplay where you just shoot a bullet sponges, elevators that take forever. Way to many puzzle rooms and mini games. its like they had to many conflicting opinions of what the game should be and it just gotta kinda weirdly streeched,
This game was pretty fun. It kept me engaged with the story and unique combat. As a father of kids, it was great too because it's single player and I could pause at anytime. I had to becareful with the language of the game but other then that it was straightforward with a good story. The pacing was pretty good too mixing it up from indoor and outdoor and the varaity of enemies.
Atomic Heart is an enjoyable game that stands out with its carefully crafted visual style and world design inspired by retro-futuristic Soviet themes, adorned with artistic graphics that present an impressive dystopian atmosphere. However, its tendency to fall into repetition at times may detract from your enjoyment. Although it may not be a perfect game, it offers enjoyable hours that are above average.
basic game play but the boss fights are extremely fun and the world is interesting.
I'll start off by saying that I really like the setting and lore of this soviet-bioshock theme game, but I can't recommend it. The dialogue can be funny with the bantering but wow is there a lot of it and like others have said the MC complains a lot and some of it you can't even skip which causes you to walk at a very slow pace. Speaking of dialogue whoever thought that having to follow a slow as a snail robot down this long stairwell with it commenting on every single thing, and you HAVE to follow it, I hope they got fired as that was a big a waste of time to me.
Combat isn't very fun like others have said and its a chore enough said.
The semi-open world nature of the game is something I like but for how slow you move makes crossing several hundred meters at one point in the game tedious. Then once you get to the hub area everything is just so spread apart that I had no interest in even going to those areas.
As you can tell by the hours I've played I didn't finish the game and I can't refund the game either, which is sad because I was looking forward to playing this game. I enjoyed the demo and then everyone here with the positive reviews influenced my decision to purchase this game albeit on sale, which leaves me disappointed in my purchase as again I love the setting. So I'm probably just going to watch the rest of the game on youtube to see how the rest of the story unfolds.
Good game to play once but honestly it was a bit repetitive and once you got the fat boy launcher most of the bosses were too easy. The difficultiy scaling was a bit off. The enemies didnt do much damage and didnt have high hp but the bosses had too much hp (without the fat boy launcher) and also did really low damage. But if the game is on sale you should buy it
This is a 9/10 game, like an open-world Bioshock. I preordered, then waited to play until the ray tracing support was finally released. The results exceeded my expectations:
1. This game's visual design is perhaps the industry's greatest achievement since Half Life 2
2. Highly immersive with tight cohesion between game lore, character/robot/creature design, voice actors, sound design, and level design
3. Greatest level of artistic originality, representative of authentic culture, yet within budget limits
4. Challenging to play, well-balanced, rewarding, and memorable
My critiques are minimal, given the dev team's overall accomplishment:
1. Some defects, but could always find a workaround so not really a problem
2. Limited number of save slots - don't save too often - you might need to go back a ways and try again
3. Lack of transparency/communications to customers around the ray tracing debacle
this game influenced me to join the communist party, atomic heart is the result if bioshock and far cry had a baby,it has a big open world like segments type of maps like metro exodus and the gameplay is really fun shooting robots and mutants with a shotgun that actually feels like a shotgun has never felt better you can cut people in half so that says alot, not to forget sexy droid deadly balarinas and a nice story definently a 10/10 ( the latest dlc not so much)
Great atmosphere, innovative leveldesign, good musik
this game has character and charm. Idk i love it. definitely get some bioshock vibes but at least it doesnt rely on being a carbon copy of that game.
An unapologetic love letter to Bioshock.
Wolfenstein/Half-Life/Boneworks are the vibes I got during my play-through.
Overall I enjoyed the art style, world building, and story of the game. It is pretty open world with endless enemies to shoot and loot if that is something that interests you. There are plenty of different weapons and abilities you can craft and upgrade with your loot--and it is all refundable so it gives you the freedom to change play-styles or try out different combinations at any time.
The weapons can feel a little underwhelming at times, unless you are using a fully upgraded Zvezdochka (Spoiler: which you can use to easily defeat every boss battle with ease). And there are plenty of puzzles that break up the combat.
It is definitely a bit glitchy, so I recommend saving often. There were multiple times I had to reload saves because my character got stuck. The games tries to do a lot; semi-open world FPS narrative with aspects of stealth, driving, puzzle solving, parkour, elemental left hand abilities.
At the time of writing this I have played the Annihilation Instinct DLC, which continues the story based off the ending I did not get. However, it was still a fun 5 add'l hours with some new weapons, abilities, and enemies.
I highly suggests waiting for the game to go on sale.
I rarely write reviews but this one deserves it.
I'm glad to see this game has mostly positive reviews. But whenever I read some of the negative ones saying the story is bad or "meh", I ask "wtf did these people play?" Then I ask, "do they have the reflexes of a Galapagos tortoise?" when they say the combat was trash. Spoiler alert: I'm going to disagree in fine detail.
Atomic Heart is probably one of the best new original IPs in terms of story and world building. Before I got it, I regarded it as a Russian Bioshock. After playing it and the DLCs (I can understand the critique of the 2nd one) I think it's a disservice to the game to think of it as a Bioshock clone. This game definitely has it's own identity, which is obvious from the art direction, soundtrack, and the world it brings to life.
It's well written, set in an alternate history timeline around the 1950's were the USSR became a near Utopian futuristic society. This game's story broaches topics like the communism (duh) and how political ambitions will always challenge the intended ideals, the need to be critical of governments, science's impact on human evolution, retro-futurism, and the concept of consciousness itself (various characters in this game could be argued to not be 'alive', but yet they're participating in the story). The 2 ending choices can be argued to be underwhelming, I can grant that. But the journey itself, was worthwhile. The dialogue between the protagonist, P-3, and his AI companion was great, with an almost comedic dynamic between the two. Getting to know the world itself, through some of most novel and creatively designed environments I've seen in a while was great. Also through the chirper (audio) logs and the lore docs, which were super interesting. As you would expect in a world where science has reached a level where people can speak to you even after they've already died. The game's weird too. Oh and get ready to be sexually harassed by a fridge.
English VO: Okay everyone, but myself, hates P-3's voice in English. They say he's whiny, he curses too much, and sounds immature...I can't deny it. But that pretty much describes me and how I'd react to everything around me if I was in his position after a murderous robot uprising, so I rolled with it. So maybe don't listen to me and set the language to Russian, idk.
Combat: I read complaints about your character being too slow.
You can upgrade to have 2 dodges, as well as character speed upgrades in the skill tree, and consumables can boost your movement even further. I've also read complaints about none of your loadout feeling powerful.
I felt overpowered half way through the game. Some of those reviews had like 5 hours on file. Leads me to believe they simply didn't realize the skill tree starts to expand your abilities like crazy when you really hone in on a play style. Or that the weapons were upgradable. The game allows for free respec'ing of your skill points, which is great and let's you really mix up and experiment with your power glove's abilities. There's an elemental aspect to combat as well. Your abilities and the weapons, which are all upgradable with different mods, can be boosted with elemental damage, which also can cause things like being lit on fire or being stunned via electrocution. If you think this game's combat system is lacking, it's actually your creativity. I've had such a blast fighting in the different scenarios the game puts you in. The game includes a pretty nice diverse amount of enemy types, which makes some of the fights really crazy when they all jump you at the same time. You'll have like 2 humanoid androids hitting you with a 2 piece combo and and ax kick, respectively, while a laborer model launches a buzz saw at you, with robo-butler about to spear you, all the while a flying drone tries to cut you in half with a laser beam from the air. This was the best kind of first person shooter and that's coming from someone who prefers 3rd person. Kinda felt like discount store Russian Doomguy at times lol.
The boss fights were pretty fun imo, a lot of them having a fun sense of scale usually involving some towering mech or biological abomination trying to liquefy P-3.
The weapons upgrades were solid. The PM with the revolver mod comes to mind, the handgun becomes a handCANNON, with an extended clip and thermal sight making like a mid range rifle for robot headshots. Another example is upgrading your AK to allow for elemental shots, then combining it with cryo rounds to unload a clip on an enemy and watch it freeze solid.
One critique is that the game lacks in reasons to traverse the world map other than advancing the story. The one exception is locating weapons mods, so the weapons add a little more game content in that way as well. But honestly, I don't care for this game to have enemy checkpoints to "clear" or whatever other pointless crap studios like Ubisoft pad their open worlds with so, do with that what you will.
The skills could've had a little more variety, but handful there is were fun to mess around with. There's a shield, that by end game literally protects you from just about anything, while regenerating you. Telekinesis as a lone skill could get you out of most jams and give you time to think and reposition. Using consumables like condensed milk or dynamos would boost P-3's performance by huge margins in combat (health / energy regeneration, etc.) I could go on but I'll save it.
My only critiques of combat is, I know they meant P-3 to be a badass, but by the time I was at the end I felt like an OP god. Fights would be anticlimatic cause the music would just be starting up by the time I wiped out the mobs lol.
I loved the first DLC. A lot for story reasons, but also cause it locked some skills out while adding a new one and a new weapon. It really forced you to change your fighting style depending what skills you had equipped and got used to in the main game. I played it on the hardest difficulty. It kicked my ass, think FromSoftware amount of retries lol...and it was all the more rewarding for it.
The 2nd DLC was weird and not what I expected. I played through it since I really like the storyline but it was strange. I wouldn't call it bad per se, but it wasn't particularly good either. Still amped for the 3rd one coming up, hoping it'll be a lot more like the 1st.
Stealth is kinda weird and not consistent in the game. But keep in mind I didn't fully understand the alarm system, but it wasn't really a concern cause I pretty much played the game 100% aggro all the time (unless a camera was really easy to sneak by). So it might be bad / might not. Not sure.
Oh and the F*CKING SOUNDTRACK. Haven't replayed a game's soundtrack like this since the Hotline Miamis.
Chef's kiss 🤌👌
In conclusion, my pp hard. 9/10
If you're curious about this game, and can actually appreciate decent world building with a little (no, a lot of) weirdness, and have the comprehension to understand that skill trees need to progress in order to improve your character's abilities, give this one a shot. I think it was one of more awesome surprise releases of 2023, even though I played it in 2024.
this game is great while being very wierd, the wierdness makes more sense as the story goes but its still wierd af, but for the complaints about the endless robots 2 points A you can disable the spawning for like 20-30mins and B your not supposed to fight every single robot. this game is great def buy on sale though
An incredibly stylish RPG that will feel familiar to anyone who has played any of the Bio Shock games. It has a unique take on the classic future dystopia image. The graphics are beautiful and the world is like a fever dream of some creative genius. I took a chance and bought this based on the trailer, and I am very happy I did so.
If you like new worlds and a good narrative, this is your game. I really enjoyed it.
Awesome game. Story, graphics, gameplay all is top notch!
The beginning is so so slow, and when you get to the actual game, it's frustrating. All I got to see was "Go from place A to B. But to get to place B you need to get MacGuffin, and therefore do a huge detour." I gave up when I had to get two items to open a door, but turns out I had to get even more items to make those items work.
I really wanted to like the game, but as soon as you leave the underground facility the game takes a steep dive into being a boring chore. I love the environment and enemies, but overall the game just feels lacking.
This is a unique but somewhat flawed game. It feels very much like a cross between Bioshock and Soviet Wolfenstein The New Collosus, and that's really cool. The overall world building of the game is incredibly novel, and the presentation is very well done. Where this game excells, it feels like game of the year material. Unfortunately, there are elements in the game which are a lot less brilliant, and these aspects pull the whole experience down from glowing greatness to just good.
One major flaw in the game is the writing. While the world building itself is great, and the overall story is pretty good, the dialogue that carries the story often feels annoying, mostly because of the protagonist, who is a huge whiner. Throughout the game, he doesn't stop complaining about how everything sucks, and that clashes with your own experience of being pretty impressed with the world and wanting to enjoy it. To be fair, the Russian version of the dialogue is better, so it is definitely a fault of translation. Russian cursing has a lot of subtleties in tone and context which the English language doesn’t have (I sometimes like to joke that a true master of the Russian language knows how to curse politely), and all of those nuances are homogenized into a unidimensional tone that often sounds whiny in English. Since most people will probably play this in English, the issue stands, even though the original script is obviously not this flawed.
For the same reason of cultural tone lost in translation, some of the attempts at humor end up being quite obnoxious, like that horny upgrades machine that is a lot more tame in Russian, but goes full cringe in the English version.
Another major problem that spoils the game is the combat, which feels a bit like a chore. The weapons feel underpowered, the reload animations are long, and the enemies constantly knock you down. Overall, the combat is actually reasonably balanced, it's just annoying that the balanced experience is one of you fighting big waves of enemies while constantly being held back by the shooting mechanics, where nothing feels powerful, and things like getting up from a knockdown or reloading feel slow. I played it on the medium difficulty, thinking it's the "regular" difficulty, and it actually feels like the hard difficulty. Playing it on easy is such a better experience, and feels like most other shooters.
There were times when I was hoping to avoid battle using some stealth, but there's pretty much no stealth mechanics in this game. Aside from crawl-sneaking behind an enemy when they are not looking, or keeping a large enough distance, there's no way to pass enemies unnoticed. If you try to hide behind bushes, they'll see you anyway.
In conclusion, the game has great world building and pretty cool level design, as well as fantastic graphics, and a lot of Russian charm, but is dragged down by annoying dialogue and tedious combat. Both are fixable if you play on easy and use the Russian voice acting.
Bioshock, but Soviet style. Semi open-world, which is a slight detraction in my book, as I would have preferred a more linear story experience, but I enjoyed the world and storytelling nonetheless.
Enemies respawn after clearing an area, which is annoying as they tend to be very powerful. The best way I can describe it is that it has a wonderful Eastern-Bloc jank that you feel in games like Stalker that encapsulates a certain vibe to me. Overall, I'd recommend it due to the story, atmosphere, and vibe. I loved the Bioshock games, so I'd recommend it to fans of that series, but with the stipulation that this will be more difficult and obtuse.
Well better enough game after Detroit: Become Human and under 2k its totally worth it. the only down side without any dlc's the game has only 8 hr's worth of content why can't it be as long as final fantasy remake!
ahhhu bammer any ways (still comes with good visuals , while fighting the robots give the feeling u are watching will smith's movie i robot , decent enough puzzel's and top tear maps, and had average sex jocks with the female robot's thats an addition) (this game needs a story expention with a girlfriend for our mc)
The game is quite cool!
It literally manages to keep you on the edge of your seat to find what's gonna happen next.
The only thing that annoyed me was getting stuck here and there due to bad collisions setup, so had to load my last save a couple of times to get unstuck. Aside from that, the story, graphics, and game-play was really satisfying.
Crispy critters, trust no body!
Great plot and idea. When i was finishing the main game there was few bus left and it was annoing but it still was worth to play and feel specific game climate witch is great.
Just finished the game after starting it over 3 different times, got busy or life happened. Was mesmerized with the unique art and creative styles and woah moments when going into twisted rooms. Loved the game the combat curve was a bit sharp till you get used to it and earn a second dodge. Weapons are unique and fun to play, combo with. Been a while since a game has got me this interested just for being different and creative than whats been put out there. no bugs for me lots of fun!
Im not at all mad playing through the game, it was fun. yes Russia's invasion wasnt good but this has nothing to do with politics, its a video game. no rights, no wrongs. just a fun video game.
Игры похожие на Atomic Heart
