I loved this, I found it very touching, poignant and there's no fat on this game at all. Get it half price if you can ($3 or something)
Well now, that wasn't what I was expecting, I'm thoroughly pleased though. That was a solid and emotional trip of a VR experience. This is not really a game mind you, it's more of like an interactive movie. It's worth the 5 dollar price tag, try to get it on sale if you can, but even then 5 bucks ain't bad for a 20 minute interactive story. It's amazing how much they could unpack in such a short amount of time. 10/10. Sit back and enjoy the story of Manifest 99
Make sure to wave.
It is an experience, not a game. And an excellent one. If you read the negative reviews saying you can't move, no dialogs, no gameplay etc, either these are children expecting for an actual game, or adults which completely missed the point. Also. those who claim there is no story, obviously need to open up a lot. There is one, told in a very special way.
If you ever wanted to explain why video gaming is art, this is a good example.
a friend had told me about this game and how it was quite good for only 15 minutes, and that it was a "test for how well your headset could deal with tears" and i completly doubted him but was still curious thanks to the art style.
it %100 stands up to the standard it was put, i was in a call with said friend and another and i thought that would impead the emotional impact of it but they watched quietly as i enjoyed this 15 minute masterpiece and took in everything (as you should with VR) and like expected i cried. This game is so emotionally impactful and just generally a must have for such a short game.
Lovely made short bitter-sweet animated experience with hidden object elements.
And those eyes...
Amazing short cinematic experience with gaze-controlled pacing. Stylish visuals aged very well and the story is simple yet touching. It's artistic and exciting at the same time, truly a hidden VR gem.
Works perfectly fine with Reverb G2, despite not having official WMR support on the Store page.
A nice and short (25 minutes) VR experience full of emotion. The soundtrack was fantastic and really set the tone for the whole thing. At first, you're not sure what's going on in the story, but after a bit it all comes together.
This isn't really a game. It's more of a short interactive movie
[PROS]
A nice short movie. VR is the future of movies.
I like the art style and the lighting
The audio is nice as well.
[CONS]
It would be nice to be able to go to the main menu at any time, especially after you finish seeing the movie for the 1st time
[MISC]
The only thing weird about this movie is that it has so many managers that they outnumbered the artists and engineers.
[VERDICT]
Get it on sale if you like art house movies.
If you have a limited budget for VR, (like I do) and have to save up to get experiences, then I would skip this one. I waited a year to try this out. I had even been looking forward to trying it, but kept hoping it would go on sale at some point. After a year of waiting for a sale, I just bit the bullet and bought it. I wish I had saved my money. In 2020 I cannot suggest this experience at THIS price point. This should be no more than $1.99 at this point (if that) At $1.99 or under, I could give it some praise, but not $5.99. It could have gotten away with this price tag in 2017 when it came out, when there still wasn't much out there for VR, but there are far better experiences that are cheaper or even FREE on Steam at this point.
I did not expect, to find a little masterpiece, in this rather short game but i am very happy now, that i bought it.
Expect around 30 minutes of playtime, you don´t really act, it´s rather you follow a story, that you slowly gather the pieces of, while you follow the path, that the environment shows to you. You collect some items by looking at them, throughout the playthrough and they give a little additonal info about the passengers backstories. Be aware, the replay factor is quite low here, besides if you want to gather all the mentioned items (there are no achivements or anything) or just replay cause you liked the story. But other than that, basically, all the game is, you can see in the first playthrough.
Don´t be fooled by some of the negative reviews, i feel like some people, had very off expectations, when they got the game. This here is rather to relax, enjoy, experience and smile afterwards. I can definitely recommend the game and in my opinion it is worth the price, if it´s on sale even more so.
Have a nice day!

READ THIS if you don't want to waste money:
I can't believe I've paid a single dime for that. There are tons of free games a thousand times better than this.
It's only a very short VR video with cartoon-ish animals. There's no dialogue, you can't move. You just teletransport from place to place inside a train by looking at crows and taking their places.
There is no story, it's very badly optimized (you'll often find yourself inside walls), it's insanely short.
If you pay any cent for this horrible "game" you'll feel robbed, believe me.
I was really torn if I should recommend this one. It's a really cool short story but you have the emphasize the "short" part. Did you see the screenshots on Steams product page? You just saw the whole game!
The artstyle is also great but sometimes executed a bit clumsy - not really a problem tho.
An lastly there is the stare mechanic which is nice but could have been muche more I think.
So all in all if you are really interested in such short projects and have the money to spare go ahead. But while it's only 6 dollars (for me here) you can get movies and thousands other indie games for that price. With 20 minutes of "play" time this is a bit of a hard sale for me.
Manifest 99 isnt really much of a game as its much more of an interactive experience and therefore i'll refer to the storepages description as it sums it up well without spoling too much.
It took me 0.4 hours to finish it and besides of interacting with a few different characters and things scattered around theres really not much to do in Manifest 99 execept to behold the visually appealing spectacle. For that reason gameplay is pretty much non existant but as i previously said this is more an experienece than a game.
I bought the game at full price at 4,79€ and personally think its overpriced for what you get so i believe for most people pondering about buying it, getting it at atleast a 50% discount would make the most sense. I did shortly contemplate on requesting a refund just for the sake of buying it later on a reduced price but frankly i doesnt really mind supporting devs who tries to make some original works and in this case visually they really succeeded.
Played on a HTC Vive
Gameplay 2/10
Graphics/Style 8.5/10
Sound 8/10
Price 3/10
Overall though i think Manifest 99 piqued my interest but at the same time it would have been nice with a more fleshed out product than what is essentially a demo length game/interactive cartoon experience.
5.5/10
Interesting storytelling!!!
Probably made so it works in any VR headset including phones one.
Quite short, I still find it weird to pay for short films or experiences in VR.
I understand how much work it is but we got used to free apps on our phones, maybe this is the problem...
A short (~25 mins) , unsettling at first, but beautiful as a whole, short story with an excellent score and an interesting story. Worth the $6 I paid for. Great job Flight School!
I would have liked to see more done with the outside of the train. The first area was great to look around at but the others were rather bland/reptitive. Still a great job!
(There are a couple parts that may make you jump.)
I got this game for my girlfriend. She loves point-and-click story games, so this seemed right up her alley. She doesn't like to play VR games at all, and was quiet while she played the game, but afterwards said it was the best VR game she's played or seen. There was no dialogue, so it can be played by speakers of any language, and the themes can be understood by most people. My girlfriend really enjoyed the story, and described it as a short story in VR format. I timed her playthrough, and it took her 25 minutes. I personally felt that it should have been cheaper due to short playtime, but my girlfriend adamantly opposed, and said she would have paid that easily.
A great quirky little experience. Loved the art very much and the gaze mechanic with the crows really worked well. Some of the crows were a little too anxious to gaze at me, so had to be careful looking around your environment without triggering them too soon. Sound and music were perfect. As others have said this is more an experience than a game. Lovely little 'arty' creation. There's not enough of these experiences tbh. Nice to see something on steam that's different from the norm.
This is an experience rather than an actual game that can be finished in a short amount of time, so please do not bother if you're just going to refund it afterwards.
With that said, this was a thought provoking little short story, though could be just as impactful if it weren't in VR. Though it wasn't what i thought it was going to be, i still enjoyed my 20 minutes with this. Also The music was phenominal!
Will not be for those who are looking for gameplay or wanting the most bang for their buck. But if you're into these short VR experiences, you'll want to check this one out.
Even better than I hoped. The gazing technique works very well. Excellent music and of course beautiful art!
Thank you for creating this wonderful VR story.
I mean it's very visually appealing from the screenshots, however the way the pacing and story take off leave's you no time to connect with any of the characters in any meaningful way. The way the gaze mechanism with the other crow's work's is pretty neat, but once again there isn't any reason given as to why
I feel like this should have been the water train from Spirited Away and is perhaps where the inspiration was drawn from, but it conflates storylines into a somewhat confusing web of very nice looking visuals and character insight moments
Everything is otherwise fine besides the player camera anchor points, so during some moments you'll find yourself clipping through a nearby poly
