You are the provider. The glue that holds this little family together. Unfortunately winter has come and you have no way of weathering it. Instead of hunkering down and riding it out. You must now go out into the woods and find what survival you can. You play as a fox, Mr. Fox. You are a predator and as such you hunt smaller animals and inside your burrow you need to keep your family warm. Hunt for food and gather wood for the fire. Keep an eye on the time of day and weather. The forest is full of opportunity. Your family is counting on you. Good luck.
This is my first finished project. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I loved building it. I am working on a update for this "Short Story" of a game. Thanks again for checking it out!

I really like the atmosphere and artstyle, but the controls are very bad and my hands hurt so much after playing for just a bit that I had to give up. It's arrow keys and then A and S for certain actions, not remappable and no controller support, arrow keys is always very painful (for me at least).
The other thing is how finding supplies can be far too difficult, my first playthrough for several days I had no wood or sticks spawn anywhere at all, so I tried resetting and that fixed it, but after my second day I would run around the whole map and struggle to find even a single little bird.
I don't like writing negative reviews, so please take this as a recommendation on how the game could be improved and not as complaining or anything of that kind ❤
This is so sad... The game itself has so much potential. But it got 0 updates after release.
Dear Dev, if you read this, just know, there's a bunch of people, who like your game... And we do wait for any future improovements :D!
Well, anyway, Thanks for the expirience I got, while playing this game.
Foxfolk is a case study for indie game dev time eficiancy. The amount of time that probalby went into this vs the amount of time and enjoyment someone can get out of it is amazing. This is what you need to do for a first game in the indie scene. There is no fullscreen function, no controller functionality. The main menu is very barebones, Its done in a lowres pixelart style, and the main character has a very limited spriteset There isnt even an up or down sprite even though you spend about half the time going north or south. All of this saves devtime which is what you want when you are putting out your first game. That being said it was an enjoyable expirence. The pixelart graphics were A strong point. The trees look very realistic. These arent your normal lollypop every tree is the same type things no. They actually look like they were modeled off of real trees in wintertime and there are many different types. As the day goes on there are various lighting effects that happen with the snow and trees that look like they must have been done by hand instead of some particle shader. In foxfolk you are a fox just trying to survive the winter mostly by looking for sticks and hunting animals. Wood can be a hastle to find. You dont know how many times I wished my fox could use an axe. They have a fireplace and a stove you would think they would be smart enough to use an axe. So many times the wifefox and kidfoxes are freezing in the burrow because I cant find any wood while Im surrounded by trees. In order to win in this game I had to constantly jump to go faster. Its a cheat you know well if you have played games like skyrim. I dont know if its possible to win without spam-jumping.
Sweet little game about fox doing fox thing. I think what makes this work so well is that the player is never disclosed how many days winter lasts, it makes the chore feel a lot more unconditional and selfless. I wish there was more interaction within the house, dialogues repeat and the family is always doing the same things. Sometimes you hoard enough resources to take a day off and you wish you could get a cutscene or something of you playing with your kids or something like that as a reward. Anyways, play this.
Charming and fun. Beautiful pixel art, delightfully animated.
Fun, but kind of a shame that you cant leave the game and come back from where you left off.
fun tho

For a game that is only 7 MB's it's a grand experiance. The basic and repetative gameplay may not seem like much, but it's simplisity breeds enjoyment.
A really good and simple, short game to pass the time. You must keep your eye peeled a lot for food and firewood as you traverse the barren landscape in order to find the resources that your family needs to survive. One session, you may have very few and sparse items over a run or another session, you could have all the luck in the world and have a ton of items in your storage at the very end of the game. Even if you feel like you have plenty of stock, you always worry or wonder if there'll be a lot of blizzards or very few to no items. For what little it cost, it was definitely worth it to play.
It's very bland. It's not bad, it's just there's not much depth there and not much to talk about. Is it worth a dollar or two? Sure I guess. But it being worth your time is another matter.
It's not offensive, it's just there's so many other games to play that would be worth your time. Cute pixel art though, maybe the developer will release something else with a bit more to actually do.
A game where you forgot to store supplies for the winter.
A game where two variables could lead to your end.
A game where supplies could be bountiful or slim.
A Game About Family.
This game is very much a simple casual game that you can beat in a very small amount of time.
It features some very cutesy, and simple pixelated graphics and music that do not offend the eyes and ears.
Sporting simple controls and a 30 day survival scenario, for $3 you can definately enjoy this game.
I think the game would've been better with more family interaction to make it seem like a real connection. The only thing you can do is collect wood and food. I think you should be able to do some activities with your kids or wife (hunting, making stuff for them, etc.). If these were in the game, the game would be a lot more enjoyable for me.

The game is simple, but in a good way.
It's very cheap, which is already a large selling point.
It provides a couple good hours of entertainment with charming art and a decent soundtrack.
It's very straight forward, provide food and wood for your family so they don't freeze or starve.
I highly reccomend this game, it is one of the better products on steam with an extremely
friendly and helpful developer.
Very cute simple game. I enjoyed it all the way through.
For a single person's first project, I think it turned out nicely. It's short and simple, but I felt the drive to keep going for as long as I could - made it to 11 days, but then my family inevitably starved.
It's essentially a desperate struggle to feed your family at home, in a snowy area where the resources are incredibly scarce. I think the game would be better if the resource density was slightly increased - I feel like some days, I spam-hopped around the entire map without finding anything, or pretty much nothing. When the update with some crafting elements comes out, it will definitely be good for the game because I feel like I simply can't find enough to possibly make it sometimes, even though there's a lot of trees and twigs which you can't pick up or cut down.
Still, the game's cosy but despondent atmosphere, which is supported by its single music track, accomplishes enough to hold my interest despite its repetitive gameplay, and the fact that you're fighting for your family's survival instead of your own was enough drive for me to keep pushing on until the harsh winter claimed their lives.
To end on a more upbeat note: good job with the game man, I hope you get some sales and learn from it to make better games in the future! I liked it.
This is a cute little game. You spend your days collecting food and wood to keep your family going through the winter. Cute pixel art and nice music. After playing this for a couple of hours I realised how ungrateful my family are for all the hard work I do. I love them anyway. It's a good feeling to throw more logs on the fire.
Look forward to the next game, keep it up!
Even though it's a pretty short and a simple game, I liked it a lot. I bought and finished it today, which is kind of sad though. I'm still going to keep this game for updates, which I hope are coming soon !
