Metal as Phuck
Very neat little game, nice attention to detail and quite funny. Could be longer, but just so the goodness could last a little longer. Recommend.
This game is absolutely hilarious and filled to the brim with Easter eggs for your favorite games and to metal in general. The dialogue is absolutely perfect and the characters are to die for. This is an absolute 10/10 for as cheap as it is and getting a solid few hours worth of gameplay if you decide to adventure around and collect all the hidden items!
This game was hilarious and fun! As a metal head, I enjoyed all the references. Also as an RPG fan, I enjoyed the gameplay! This game was really fun and I encourage ANY RPG fan to play it, metal head or not. It has a good battle system, an awesome but funny story and I beat it in 8 hours my first playthrough. I hope there can be more games like this. :D Thank you to the people who made this. Much appreciated.
A bloody good game to play while taking a break from all those AAA titles. The dialogues got me laughing hard, rewarding grinding and combat, and of course, the length of the game is good enough; not too short not too draggy. Glad I purchased this game.
Metal as Phuk clearly rises to the top of the $5 Indie Game list. It's short, but priced to match its length. It looks and sounds great. The humor is about what you'd expect given the title, so that should be a serious consideration when you decide whether you want to play the game. It is somewhat difficult, which is only reasonable given its length; you are expected to use the tools at your disposal. My only complaint is that I didn't find an inn during the first half of the game, so leveling up was the only significant source of MP restoration (and thus, also the primary source of healing). This felt pretty bad, and it seems like a little bit of bad luck early on could force you to restart the game.
So here's the deal; if you like weed, dick jokes, and metal references this game is probably a fine way to kill some time. It's not expensive and the graphics are decent.
HOWEVER, I picked this game up thinking it would be something of substance, given the "very positive" reviews on Steam and the six hour playtime. Not so. For me, that playtime works against the central conceit of the game being a goofy collection of funny lines. If it was only an hour or two long I could see myself playing through it and being more or less satisfied. But with every joke that didn't land for me a chorus of "six hours to beat, six hours to beat" rang through my head.
This game is obviously for some people. It's not for me, and a negative review would've given me perspective on that before I bought it, so here we are.
This game is a real diamond in the rough. Great story telling, through the lens of sarcastic humor glazed with a sugary coating of debauchery. If that alone doesn't get you wanting to play this game, it has great characters. Level up system is great, even rewards you for exploration. Combat is classic turn based RPG, nothing too fancy, which is exactly as these games should be. It's like old school Final Fantasy game play paired with Conker's Bad Fur Day style humor. 10/10 will play again.
So, I was bored at an evening, and was too tired for any game that needs effort. I looked at my library and remembered i bought this, i insatalled it and clicked it.
I non-stoppingly played this. For 4 hours. Until i finished it.
No regrets. It has a huge amount of original humor in it, and i don't regret i spent my exam night on this too. Not. One. Bit.
This game, my friends, is METAL. AS. PHUK!
go buy it and play, if you're a metal fan specially, you won't regret. The humor is perfect, it's a little bit challenging and you might even end up symphatizing the characters. Ahem.
+5 hours of solid indie rpg fun.
Pretty straighforward, grasping storyline with a few twists, and a lot of tongue in the cheek humour and metal as phuk references :)
Not much re-playability, but very well worth the few $ it costs on steam. Thumbs up recommendation from me.
So far this game is a great throwback with great humor, but twice now I've gotten annoyed and quit, not because it's difficult, but because the screenshot key closes the game with no warning, forcing you back to your last save. That is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen with a games functionality. Will update review as I play more, but if you are into metal, you'll get a kick out of this game.
Just finished the game, and I really enjoyed it. Was entertaining the whole way through, and kept me glued into the story. The game play and combat was great aswell, with awesome music, witty banter, and lots of content.
The only downside is that it could have been a little bit longer. I was definitely left with wanting more, and will be keeping tabs for the next game!
I have only just begun this gaming adventure, recording it on youtube, and I have to admit, although I have not gotten very far into the game, EVERYTHING about it is what I look for in an RPG. The combat is one of my favorite styles, all be it old school, it is still the type of strategy a person can take in, absorb, and rebuttle against the enemies without being rushed. The story had me laugh more times then I can count, and just because of the sheer amount of exploration, 1-liners, and all in all character developement, this game is 100% worth the purchase and support!
An enjoyable RPG-Maker title, this game was quite an amusing experience. The writing was very memorable for a comedy-adventure approach. It sets itself apart from other RPG-Maker games by how quirky the character personalities are, using mature themes. The party interaction throughout the journey was hilarious most of the time, with Pontius being a personal favorite. There was one scene in particular about looting a particular shelf that Chael felt morally opposed to looting and that had me laughing a lot. Besides the peculiar ending, the game doesn’t do anything too special game mechanics wise. Fights were in a typical turn-based set-up like in other RPG-Maker games. What makes it stand out was the engaging interaction with bosses with down-to-earth entertaining exchanges. The mature nature of the interactions with the characters helped convey a more realistic amusing tale. I did not feel compelled to grind, and the game really rewards you with exploration. All in all, I thoroughly had a great time with this. I’m also very glad to see an active developer that genuinely cares about their community and their feedback. I look forward to trying out their other titles, they have a real knack for making comedic adventure games.
Well, after reading all the praise in comments/reviews I expected much more..
So, here what you get: pretty basic yet sufficient game mechanics, lively characters, not mind-blowing but pretty entertaining dialogues, about 4-6 hours of gameplay.
Conclusion: decent game for its price, just don't expect an epiphany from it, like I did. :)
So here I am, sitting and wondering whether this game is any good. RPGMaker is a useful tool which you can use to create interesting games, but the Steam store is flooded with cookie-cutter save-the-world RPGs. I've enjoyed many RPGMaker games, though pretty much all of them were horror games that had little do with actual fighting.
My initial misgivings, understandable as they were, were quickly dashed with clever, witty writing. This is no Shakespeare, don't get me wrong, but any game that gets me to laugh for a minute straight as a result of a well-delivered joke is fine in my book.
This isn't to say the experience is all about going from one joke to another. It's more like a mission to stop evil interspersed with enjoyable banter and serious moments, bolstered by an interesting selection of metal music.
I liked the fact that exploring the world was a reward in itself, not just a way to accrue experience points. I have to admit I've never played a game where the heroes remarked on the stuff they were finding. All too often you find strange objects in other games and no one even bats an eye. This game has spoiled me in this regard.
The battles were ok. They weren't frustrating or anything, and there was a large variety of mooks to defeat, but at the same time it all flew by really fast. Maybe I'm just too used to this. I did, however, like the in-battle dialogues, they spiced things up during the big encounters.
All in all, this game was a pleasant surprise and I've enjoyed every minute of it. I'll be keeping tabs on what the dev cooks up in the future. Perhaps a sequel? The game's lore offers a lot of options.
This was a short, but great game. I really like those classic finfal fantasy 6 like RPGS. The humour, music (whats not to love about a good portion of heavy metal?!) and the style was cool.
Most of all I enjoyed the dialogue between the characters. It made me burst out in laughter several times.
There were no real flaws in the game, except maybe the endboss. I battled him to zero health just to find out that I cannot defeat him by myself. This maybe would have been a chance for a second ending sequence. That was a bit dissapointing. Nontheless I enjoyed myself really much.
Absolutely can recommend this game!
Every so often, there's an itch that only a retro-style turn-based RPG can scratch, and Metal as Phuk scratches better than one of those hands-on-a-stick things that all our grandmothers have in their house.
Reminiscent of games such as Dragon Quest, Legend of Zelda, and Final Fantasy, Metal as Phuk puts you front and centre as Chael, the last paladin of the Metal Order, on an epic quest to stop three evil bards from summoning A'marthius into the world.
Meet up with some badass compadres to rip evil a dozen new holes, and most importantly, be METAL AS PHUK!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Metal as Phuk offers a solid 6 hours of playthrough provided you aren't smashing the skip dialogue key, and upon completing the game, you aren't left feeling cheated because frankly it's extremely wallet-friendly. Its world is full of small details, such as funny notes and Easter eggs. Each character you encounter has their own dialogue, much of it being absolutely hilarious.
My one criticism of the game is in that some of the dialogue feels a little forced when attempting to be dramatic, similar to an epic B movie from the 80's. While this is a criticism, it's not actually a detracting factor and actually seems to enhance the experience. While playing Metal as Phuk, you might experience a feeling similar to, say, watching the original Evil Dead; there is comedy, there is drama, there is an element of horror, but most of all there is a feeling of "god dammit, this kicks ass".
If you are looking for a difficult game, this isn't it (nor is it intended to be). Metal as Phuk is intended, as the creator notes, to make you laugh.
On a technical note, due to the engine used to develop the game, you cannot change resolution so when you first launch the game it will come up in a small window. To fix this, hit ALT+Enter, and you're off living the Fullscreen-Fantasy^TM. You may also want to adjust your volume prior to starting the game, as the music is as loud as it is rockin'.
Overall, this game is a must have. Buy it now, and thank me when you are sitting back enjoying this bad ass adventure. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing more from this developer in the future.
Metal as Phuk was quite the fun little RPG Maker game. It randomly caught my eye during one of the recent sales and I bought it on a whim.
I think it took me somewhere around 4-5 hours to complete, and I definitely had quite a few chuckles and laughs throughout. You really need to be a fan of various metal bands and the genre in general to pick up on a lot of the jokes, but yeah, it was pretty cool. Depending on how you look at things, the overall lack of difficulty might be a negative, but for me, it was actually ideal, as I wasn't really looking for a challenge with this one. I simply wanted to experience the story, which was fun and irreverent.
In my opinion, Metal as Phuk is one of the better RPG Maker titles you will find on Steam. Try it out (but make sure you know at least a little about metal music or the game won't hold the same level of charm for you most likely).
8 out of 10.

I read the name and you had my attention, I saw the trailer and I was sold!
Gotta admit, I've always loved Rock/Metal (and getting stoned) so I was a little biased coming into this. Even if it sucked I probably wouldn't of down thumbed it. Fortunately, it doesn't suck. It can be cringey here and there between some of the funny moments, and it's pretty short, but it's still a fun little RPG with tons of metal and stoner references. Two of my favorite things! It's not gonna blow you away with the graphics or gameplay, but it's still fun enough to warrant a thumbs up!
Shortest Version:
TL;DR - BUY THIS PHUKING GAME!
Not So Shortest Version:
I'm a HUGE fan of old school RPGs, so I was SUPER excited to give this game a try!
My first impressions upon starting this game? The music choices were SOLID, the dialogue was freaking HILARIOUS, and exploration was DEFINTELY encouraged.
As I am a huge explorer in games, I LOVED the fact I was granted bonus experience by uncovering every nook and cranny.
The characters all had unique and loveable personalities, and I ABSOLUTELY enjoyed the interactions they shared together!
On top of all the AMAZING things I've already touched base on, the game is filled with so many easter eggs, and great references that will give you a good chuckle. You can REALLY tell the developers put their heart and soul into this game.
Believe me when I tell you this game is unlike ANY OTHER RPG you may have played! And it's available at an INCREDIBLE price! It's LITERALLY a steal for the experience.
I'm already thinking of starting my second play through, just in case I missed any awesomeness the first time around!
As I stated in the beginning, BUT THIS PHUKING GAME! You will NOT be disappointed.
