I enjoy the Fantasy Mosaic games so much and they always give me hours of relaxing enjoyment.
ok
I like these kind of games and they are just like the other ones in the series - addictive and time consuming
Good interface, generally good puzzle images. The idea is to never have to guess, even when the image seems to suggest a solution. The game itself tells you only to mark a square once you're logically sure. However, there are still a few puzzles towards the end that leave you with a pair or two of final blocks that could logically go either way. Still, the logic behind the puzzles is usually solid. Difficulty is generally low-medium, with only one puzzle in the whole game that requires higher-level thinking across available colors.
I have to say that the "alien landscape" image that is assembled by your success is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in a game.
If you've played the earlier "Fantasy Mosaics" games, you pretty much know what to expect with "Fantasy Mosaics 17: New Palette." About the only difference is that the palette is now 6 colors and those colors are a bit different. I do have a couple of issues that I noticed, though. First, several of the pictures we build via the nonagrams are re-used across the game. That's not a big problem. However, a bigger issue is that the first puzzle of the last set (25-1) cannot be solved without guessing (several times). It's possible that I'm wrong about that. But, I had to make three tries to complete it. Supposedly, the pickaxe and sun tools prevent that. But, you can't get enough points (or whatever) to activate those tools before having to guess. That's the first time I've seen that in this series. Still, I got 12.8 hours of pretty darn good game play. So, even at its list price, I recommend it (but, of course, buy it on sale).
You're going to tell why I am only reviewing this game now when I've played it a long time ago? Because well, the rest of the series is being released on Steam... well, when I say the rest, I mean everything that is after the 14th game, as apparently, everything before isn't still in the upcoming list, which I repeated is sad because I really want to see from what the series is coming from.
If you read any of my other Fantasy Mosaics reviews, you already know that I've added them to Neoseeker, a gaming site and that well, it's what stimulated my curiosity. Fantasy Mosaics is a series of nonograms (also known as griddlers) games released for iOS and Android before being ported on PC and Mac, though now MatchGems (or Andy Jurko, take your pick) is releasing each version the same day or just a day apart (PC and Mac are released on Big Fish Games before Steam, so, that's how I can say that).
We're now at six colors though with a 17th opus called New Palette, you can imagine that you have now more than six colors available, though the maximum of colors you'll get for a nonogram is six. This is where the challenge is: six colors with sometimes a though decision to make by trying to guess which tile is colored.
Being lazy... or maybe more because the gameplay didn't change from the 16th volume (I'll launch the 21st one soon and I can say that nothing changed in terms of gameplay), I'll paste part of reviews I've done in the past.
You have a series of numbers indicating how many tiles are used for a drawing in the column or in the line. Sometimes, it's easy as the whole line or column is concerned but at other times, it's really a matter of making your brain work: if for example, three tiles are needed and known, you know that the tiles just next to the beginning and the end can't be used for the column or the rest of the line.
You have twenty levels of five nonograms to solve, though it's just to win a new item (or person or animal) for your garden. The plot isn't really the main point here as it's just explained at the beginning but then you get nothing else, not even an ending sequence.
You can finish quickly the game, if you don't take the challenge of no hints and no mistakes seriously, like me.
The drawings aren't really connected to each other but it's still great to discover them and to see if you managed to guess them or not.
In other words, if you love that kind of gameplay, you should buy the game, though the full price can be quite discussed as I think that it should be less, given that apart new colors in the mix, you have quite the same game as in the 16th (and as I've said, at least until the 20th, as I didn't launch the 21st or the others after, who aren't released at the time of the review). Once you're hooked, you're hooked but if you're not fan of the genre, I doubt that the 17th game in the series will change your mind.
I love playing fantasy mosaic games! I have been playing them for years and I love the newer ones with all the colors! Its almost like painting. They also exercise the brain! I actually find the game relaxing until I get stuck.. lol Hope you all enjoy.
This is a nice addition to the picross genre. Relaxing, not overly difficult (I completed all puzzles with no mistakes, though it might have taken a few tries on one or two. I'm blaming that on watching YouTube while playing so I wasn't concentrating fully), and fun with the different colors. I've played Fantasy Mosaics 16, 17, and 18 and all three are worth playing. There's a story of sort with it, but I didn't pay much attention. :) And yes, I left the same review on 3 games because it applies to all of them.
