I want this guy to finish the visual novel he's on so he can hurry up and get to the next chapter! I wanna know what the answers to the unanswered questions are!
I will recommend this game with a caveat. The last puzzle is ridiculously convoluted, incorporating things you have no reason to suspect are linked. Even after giving up and using a guide to find out what to do and seeing the method for solving I just took the answer and used it to end the game. It was frustrating since almost everything to that point was fairly challenging but enjoyably so.
The concept is great, the controls smooth and intuitive, the puzzles are (usually) fun-challenging and require logic. There was one that I thought I had figured out but didn't work, then when I used the guide I did have the right idea but something appeared to be switched on the over all map. I suppose this puzzle could have been solved through trial and error though. Another was a puzzle involving a date that used a format never seen in actual date formulating so I didn't even consider it as a possibility
I might go back and replay some day but the last puzzle just took all the fun out of it for me.
Well, on the one hand the game is fun enough if you like figuring out puzzles. Nothing crazy challenging in what I had played so far. I was even enjoying the sub-plot that the game had going between the different characters. However, there are a number of things about the game that are just... not polished and sometimes quite annoying. The sound the text makes is loud seemingly no matter how you configure audio options, but the kicker is that if you click "disable typing sound" in the menu, the typing sound will simply come back a few moments later. At which point you have to "enable" and then re-disable it to make the sound go away again. You also can't skip dialogue that you've already been through if you're just trying to interact with the NPC's to see if they give any helpful hints.
But here's the bug that made me put the game down: I was in a maze in which a few chests require the inputting of a code, the second of which requires a code comprised of characters (letters, numbers, and even special characters are allowed as input). I do not yet have the code, so to get the dialog box to close, I simply enter "++++++" since that character is close to the "ok" button, which the game allows me to do. The game then brings up a screen that says "Syntax Error: Invalid Regular Expression" or something to that effect. A regex error! Wow! The game would not close this error box and would not let me proceed, causing me to lose a lot of progress (which is partially my fault for not saving in a while).
Again, enjoyable enough puzzles to solve if that's your jam though.
This is the first game I will enjoy replaying - with a few more endings and paths to discover, thats bonus time to play through really clever puzzles - {do make more games Dev}
Unlike general PnCs, replay for Achievements can be repetitive, this game has engaging and atmospheric storylines with enough slave slots.
Controls I used were keyboard < Z for 'enter' X for 'menu/back' & Right Hand Arrow Movement Keys >
My preference only as it felt balanced personally, using my left and right hand on keys -
Have read some find its awkward - Return/Esc can sub for Z/X and have used mouse to move for a second or two and seen mention of controllers on game's discussion page.
After the puzzles, my next fave thing is the easy access walkthrough link on the main menu.
Not only is there one - it has a spoiler filter, and so far, the ones i saw, i cd glance at it, seeing only a hint and i can try things out. Theres an NPC companion that guides/hints every now and then, without any missed achievement penalty.
Overall
Fab discovery
Puzzle Addicts - you should love this
Looking forward to more
P.S. have a notepad handy.
This game seemed like it would be fun, but even so it was better than I expected - less straightforward than it first appeared! I would absolutely recommend this title.
I need more RPGmaker games like this!!!
As an escape room aficionado in real life, I figured I'd try this one out. I have to say that the quality of the puzzles in this game rivals that of some real escape rooms I've done.
Some rooms were really easy for me, but as I advanced through the game, I started to struggle a bit. Some of the puzzles are cryptic, which might cause some frustration, but talking with your companions often leads to helpful clues. I did have to resort to a guide at a few points when I got stuck, and the answers all make logical sense, which makes me appreciate the amount of thought that went into the puzzles. Bravo.
The story offers multiple endings, but I won't say anything about them, other than that I still have questions about some of the characters. Being that the game is primarily puzzle-based, I'm not particularly turned off by not getting all of the answers in this regard.
Is it perfect? No - but it's a quality game that I enjoyed. I am happy to be amongst its initial supporters, and I hope it finds success!
EDIT: The developer has been vigilant in responding to questions, bugs, and requests. Mine was resolved within less than a day. Impressive customer service!
very fun and challenging puzzel game
Enjoyed the game very much. Not usually fond of puzzle games but I did try the real escape rooms before and really enjoyed that.
The story is interesting, especially after about halfway through. There are 2 different routes and after doing all the endings my favorite has to be the Escaped route and makes me think there will be more coming. Am I right?
The puzzles are mostly ok. There are hints that help you, and also a guide when you're stuck so it's really good since you will never be stuck.
I actually quite enjoyed the game.
It`s an RPG maker game (yes, i know. No shit sherlock) and it was developed by an indie developer... Additionally I am a big fan of puzzle games and such stuff which caused me to try this game.
I had no problems solving the puzzles in the early game. Some puzzles are innovative and interesting. Not every puzzle is though (i speak to you: Lights Puzzle), but most of them are. Every game has some weak puzzles. Every puzzle can be figured out logically which makes it fun to progress and proceed through the rooms. The game also has different paths you can take and different endings you can get. Saving, loading and such stuff is no problem, you can do that anytime before important choices.
I have finished the game, completed all secrets and hidden puzzles. The puzzles in the late-game were really difficult and i had a hard-time figuring them out. The puzzles are great and i definitely would buy this game again for them.
The big downside is the story though. It`s pretty... weeeird. The story concept is actually not that bad... but come on, the typical Secret Agent plot twist ^^ thus making the story really mediocre. The dialogue is skippable, which is important for those kind of games (you don`t want to play twice through story sections to reach different endings without being able to skip :p)
Another thing i like are the hidden puzzles. It`s a good way of including secrets in your game. Some of them are hidden very uncreatively though (at the walls, really?). All in all it`s pretty fun to find them though (some are hidden pretty good!)
Yes, due to that i believe I can reccommend the game especially because of the puzzles. The story and dialogue aren`t that good, but it`s not like it`s disturbing the gameplay. The price tag is 6,99 and you get about 10 hours gameplay (yes, i needed that long. Maybe you`re faster... but that`s how long i needed for all endings!). I don`t see anything unfair there, so it`s fine.
The puzzles are the best reasons why to buy this game. The story is - unfortunately - not that strong.
You know, If i ever would have made a game, it would have had a similar concept puzzle-wise like this one ;)
I've been a bit on the fence about this game throughout yesterday and today. On sale the game costs £3.5 and I have 3.5 hours so far so I have my money's worth.
The game presents itself as an RPGMaker styled locked room/escape the room mystery. I've done a couple of these puzzles in real life and thought I'd give it a shot.
The gameplay is pretty much what you'd expect; hunt around the room for clues to solve the puzzles to find keys to open the door. That's all great, fun and challenging.
I came across a few issues while playing. The developer (in the comments below) has been great in responding to them and promising to work on some quality of life improvements. I'll leave these issues at the bottom as a reference.
However, overall my review is to recommend this game - this game has an active, engaged developer who is passionate about their game, who talks to the playerbase and tries to improve the experience for the players.
The experience is fun, quirky and as far as I know, unique. There are different endings dependent on your choices, the story is decent and the puzzles are intricate and challenging on the whole (various difficulty across the game of course). With some of the issues I describe below being sorted, and being informed that you need to manually save I have no major problems with the game. For the price you can definitely get your money's worth from the game, and a lot of enjoyment at the same time!
PREVIOUS REVIEW ISSUES - DEV COMMENTS BELOW ABOUT IMPROVEMENTS:
First of all the dialogue is frustrating in the sense that talking to one of the other people there requires a lot of clicking to progress through it. You'll find yourself talking to or interacting with the same items multiple times and seeing the same dialgoue, but without a way to skip it.
Secondly, I'm currently stuck in one room, where I've been left on my own in a dark maze. Usually when you get stuck the others will offer you clues and assistance. This room, being alone, I have no assistance. I solved the first part and then was presented with a 2nd section which seemingly has no solution - a 6 character and numeric code with only two sets of 4 numbers as options. No doubt it's my issue not figuring it out, but my issue is that there's no assistance to help you out when you're stuck. This could just halt my progress and enjoyment through the game.
There are also hidden puzzles to solve, but no real way to interact with them. You find a piece of paper for example with a riddle on it alluring to one of the people you're with being phoney/dodgy. It ends with "I wonder who it is?". I could guess, but there's no where to input your guess and see if you're right/wrong etc... so "completing" these for the clues seems impossible. Maybe you just have to find multiple hidden clues first.
The achievements seem very specific. I believe there's 5 rooms in any play through (of 7 total) and I'm on room 4 but have had no achievements yet. I'm guessing there's some extra hidden clues or alternative progressions to find in extra play throughs.
My biggest issue occurred when I reloaded the game. Despite the game appearing to save at every "checkpoint" save screen between rooms... I reload the game and it saved nothing of my progress.
