There are 14 unique skills to upgrade with skill points, ranging from agility to firearms, hacking, hardware, voodoo. Unlock up to 80 special abilities that allow you to do things such as throw your weapon, upgrade your guns, and control the weather.
Dangers include rival tribes fighting for fertile land, mutated ghouls that emerge from their caverns at night, vicious demons that hunger for your flesh, a flooded and irradiated coastline that eats away at civilization, as well as disease, insanity, and hunger.
You will die often, and you will like it.

- Branching story with dynamic characters, dialogue trees, teammates, and multiple endings
- Total freedom of movement and action: jump from roof to roof, steal things, blow things up, or murder friendly characters (if that's your thing)
- Extensive character customization with 14 skills to upgrade and over 80 abilities to unlock, ranging from firearms to crafting, hacking, and voodoo
- Crafting system largely based on the Anarchist's Cookbook: make various grenades from empty beer cans and the proper chems, etc.
- Explore a vast region of Oaxaca, taking you from a banana plantation, into toxic caverns, bustling cities, disease-ridden jungles, a flooded coastline, and more
- Completely versatile world editor, allowing you to edit the story for fun, or make a completely new story with new skills, scripts, and imported assets
Modding Permissions:
You can sell your own mods for Brigand on any site you want and keep all the profit, as long as you include a link to the Brigand store page and do not include the EXE files in your download. Itch.io is a good place to sell mods. Let me know if you make one (you don't have to).
Linux/Deck Compatibility:
To run on most Linux systems, enable the Steam Proton 8.0-5 in the "compatibility" tab.

Black screen on startup; game doesn't work.
Edit: Dev response is about the Steam Deck; I'm having this issue on desktop. Cursor shows but nothing else.
Janky, ugly, load screens drive me crazy... but irresistibly fun.
I have mainly played this on GOG. But wanted to give a review here. This is one of my favorite indie games of all time. Deus ex/system shock type game. The graphics are great if you remember playing games like this growing up. It also works flawlessly on the steam deck
It's one of those hidden gems I'd like to recommend to everyone, the kind of delight that reminds me why I love video games. Sure, it looks a bit dated in graphics and controls, but don't let that stop you. The game is full of charm and has an identity all of its own. It's full of weird ideas all over the place, and that's great. A true work of authorship. Ty so much B. Lancaster ♡
(P.S. : Some parts of the game are so hard it makes you want to cry, it's absolutely horrifying. 10/10)
This is definitely one of the games ever. Learning curve is steep, but so is the fun factor.
Fascinatingly complex immersive sim that's beautifully jank, just like it's contemporaries. If you have any interest in the genre I definitely recommend
