Amazing game!
This was one of those games where you remember playing it when you were young, but were never quite able to beat or understand everything that goes on in the story. I decided to play this game again just to see how well it holds up nowadays (and to say I finally beat it). Definitely was worth a short campaign trip down nostalgia and old school storytelling from Capcom. Definitely made me remember why I fell in love with mecha games and giant insect monsters!
The game holds up decently, with only a few choppy or laggy visuals with my personal pc setup. Combat feels good, sluggish but impactful, and you learn to get a nice feel for it once you adjust some of the buttons and settings to personal taste (for instance, I played this game with its fixed aim when I was a kid, so I knew when the reticle was all floaty in the first mission I quickly looked to fix it lol). Enemies feel dangerous if you're not careful, and can sometimes be outright brutal if you get caught in an old school stun-lock from the recovery frames. The environments are inspiring, a little rough when you look at the minute details, but definitely serviceable for its time. The story and voice-acting won't win any awards, but it does a decent job of getting you invested in the right moments and paints a picture of what exactly you're doing mission-to-mission.
Overall, a welcome adventure to an older-style of game that I adore and recommend for anyone looking for something a little retro yet unique.
A solid game with fun interesting mechanics when came out back in 2007, I still enjoy playing this game today. The Story and characters are ok, the story isn't anything to special, but it gets the job done. The characters can be over the top and over dramatic, but it feels like that's what they were going for. Honestly the characters feel a little like metal gear with the way some of the bad guys act and the comical dialogue it makes for an enjoyable watch. The cutscenes in this game were awesome for the time they came out and are great to watch. The gun play is and grappling mechanic are fun and straight forward, the levels also use the mechanics to their fullest rewarding players who like to explore. The freezing mechanic was really interesting and was a cool way to add tension in the environment while fighting for your life. The different mechs and their mechanics add even more fun diversity to the game, and they are really cool. Some of the boss fights can be slightly annoying and seem unfair but I find most of them unique and really fun. This game is not perfect and can be difficult because it doesn't hold the players hand, but it was ahead of its time in the ideas it brought to the table and is worth one playthrough.
A beautiful game that has a fun story and enjoyable gameplay! The gameplay takes a bit of getting used to but once you've got it (for me after the first mission I felt fine) it is a fun game. I really, really love the combat, the VS suits (mech suits) and the characters are entertaining. I cannot recommend Lost Planet enough!!
lost planet long lost gem from ps3 era, 10/10 steamdeck must play
Loved this game back then when it was first released in 2007 and i still enjoyed playing it over again 18 years later. Obviously graphics are a bit old but if you can by pass that your in for a pretty dope story. Ive played all of them and i hope they fix the second lost planet so i can replay that one as well!
While I appreciate the story, I find many boss battles to be much harder than expected. On hard mode, this is somewhat normal, but when a boss can easily overpower you, it doesn't feel fair. The energy drain you experience makes things even more challenging, as you need a VS (Vehicle Support) for these bosses, but often run out of power before you can reach them. Overall, if you're interested in an unrefined game that shows how the LP games began, I would say go ahead and play it. However, if you're used to the mechanics in LP 2, you might be very disappointed. The lack of a sprint feature is frustrating, along with various bugs and glitches.
Absolute Classic, Worthy of a remaster its a shame Capcom abandoned the franchise. This and the sequel are GOATED
W GAME
what the fuck is even mission 3?
Less is more. Very enjoyable
Decent.
this isn't a bad game, in fact if I had played this around release I bet I would have had a great time with the game. As of now though when I've played this in 2025 and have experienced earth defense force, helldivers 1 and 2, and honestly the battlefront games as well in some ways all supersede lost planet in so many ways that it does just generally make the game as of this time period seem aged.
I love the art direction, the gimmick with the grappling hook and heat. It's just that these two factors are such negligible fragments of the gameplay that the grapple itself can only really be seen as little more than a jump button and the heat itself substitutes the health bar in a way that I think works well with the design intention of the rest of the game, but it's not something you will be actively thinking about.
As for the gameplay it's little more than earth defense force as a soldier with one weapon and no dodge roll. It tries to intersperse this with being able to swap weapons throughout each mission and introducing a multitude of interesting vehicles, it's just that none of them do anything particularly unique beyond being faster/slower and having bigger guns.
All of this is to say that any other arcadey shooter will serve you better and the element of being on an alien world surrounded by hostile enemy hordes you'll need to fight through in order to accomplish an objective is (as much as it pains me to say it) at it's peak in helldivers 2 even if the heads of development for that game aren't quite used to handling a project of that scale. All of the battlefront games also offer an alternative for a better pvp experience than this game can offer.
I do hope capcom comes back to this franchise, I do think there's a lot that can be done with this series that's been painfully ignored for a long period of time. Ideally now that capcom seems to be nailing it with each release there can hopefully now be an expected reboot or fourth title of some kind that I can put my love into. I'd even take another shot at dark void since I feel similarly with that game.
I've played the first few missions and the game is just about how I remember it. I enjoy the Third Person Shooter elements and the mechs are a joy to pilot and fight in. I hope they port Lost Planet 2 to Steam one day.
Very bad game design.
Your character is slow and clunky to move and easily get knockdown by enemies.
Change weapons your character will pause, land after jump pause.
Enemies have perfect aim.
On level 7 you are in an open field with like 50 human and mechs. Once you fight one of them everybody will fire at you. Bullets, missiles, lasers. All you can do is slowly run to the next area hopefully you can tank enough damage.
And by the way on later level the game just throws hundred of enemies at you at once explosions everywhere and your character is knock locked, basically before he can get up he gets fire at and knockdown again.
You can't see anything of all the particles and explosion in your screen.
Did the devs even test the hundred enemy placement of this game? What were they thinking?
Bad game no wonder it's forgotten by most gamers.
good

MAN I loved this game
The beautiful experience I never got to finish on the Xbox 360
Its an old game but it has some great moments!
Simply put -- just as good as I remember.
Although it's a leap-and-bound 3rd-person shooter at its core, featuring giant monster battles and large bipedal mech fights in-between; LP:EC truly represents the idea that "less is more" when it comes to game design, when its being done right. You're essentially given 6 weapon categories, with their own mech equivalents and told to assault your way forwards through the Story -- and yet, somehow it still manages to be a great game, captivating a great story that's worth playing through at least once, if not a couple of more times.
This planet is lost.
Never played it growing up, but it's cute. It's a game by CapCom. That should be all I have to say about it. If you like goofy CapCom games, you'll like this.
Good old game. Reminded me my childhood.
This is still very fun and holds up. Worth another play through.
LITERAL best game EVER made. If this game were a human it'd be "made" for sure! So fuhgedaboutit! Buy Lost Planet aw ready, get in a vs and kick some AKRID A.S.S.!!! PLUS FUGGIN SNOW...NUFF SAID...............snow...FriGG-IN SNOW!!! GET OUTTA HEA!.... . . .S...NOW.................. . . . . . . .. .!!?
It's gun Monster Hunter Earth Defence Force, in the snow (and sometimes volcano). Good environmental atmosphere and sound/armour/mech designs. Terrible story and final boss. These Pirates have some serious drip! and most of the alien designs are cool. I like the big dust clouds explosions leave behind.
I'll keep this review short and sweet. This game is 18 years old and I'm still playing it so that's saying something. Sure it's dated, some of the game mechanics are downright infuriating but it's one of those XBox 360 titles that I look back fondly on.
It's like comfort food.
good classic gem.
Lost Planet is Lost Planet..
Pros
1. Great character design and animations for it time
2. Destroy Kaiju
Cons
1. Game can be very repetitive at time
2. Story can get boring
3. Control can be tricky sometimes
Overall: It a classic i like to replay every now and then.
A classic game for me. Some gameplay elements may be slightly dated or clunky at times (such as the staggering mechanic) but just generally a very enjoyable sci-fi/mech shooter with a good enough story and fun level designs and (somewhat) challenging boss fights.
6.5/10 IF I HAD TO FIGHT THAT FINAL BOSS ONE MORE TIME I SWEAR TO GOD
Genuinely deserves a remake though come on capcom
Still works on modern consoles and is fun as hell!
haha squiod game
One of my favorite video game series ever. I love Lost Planet 1 and 2 so god damn much.
I have more hours in Lost Planet Colonies and I played the shit out of it on 360.
only played 30 minutes but you can say it is a masterpiece, recommended.
FIX LOST PLANET 2 YOU PACK OF DOLTS!!! THIS IS BS! JUST TAKE MY MONEY YOU FOOLS
Good old 360 game
a wonderful sense of nostalgia
I loved this game as a kid and now I love this game as a kid but turning into an adult feels great.
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is a game with both strengths and shortcomings.
The snowy landscapes and hostile alien creatures create a unique and atmospheric setting.
Combat is engaging, with a variety of weapons and the use of Vital Suits adding a fun mech element.
However, the story feels shallow and fails to leave a lasting impact...
The thermal energy mechanic, while interesting, can feel restrictive and disrupt exploration!
Compared to its sequel, this title lacks the polish and depth that could have elevated it further.
While Lost Planet: Extreme Condition has its moments, it ultimately pales in comparison to the improved experience offered by Lost Planet 2.
An engaging and fun single player adventure that combines on foot action with giant robotic combat. Aliens, Big Aliens, humans or mechs. You'll fight them all. The gameplay can be a little challenging given the quirks of the battle system, but not only do you get used to it but appreciate them as part of the challenge. Story is interesting, but could use better direction.
Played this again after nearly 20 years since release and, boy, does it not hold up. An interesting premise and a handful of cool ideas that are absolutely mired by frankly pointless missions (most of the combat feels gratuitous and, frequently, can be almost entirely run past until the boss fight), dated controls (doubly so their settings), overwhelming knockback that will stunlock you, some miserable boss fights, and a TERRIBLE story. Not even enjoyable bad, just awful to sit through. I finished it for teenage me, but I would never recommend this game.

I never played this when it was originally released in 2007. This game is not high art and that's o.k.. The design from over a decade shows with mission based structure and threadbare plot, which could be forgiven if it wasn't for the lack of direction for the stages. There's a big worm, "do I Kill it?". The final boss gives only parts a new control scheme and no idea how to best approach it. This kind of vaguery was a problem for some games of the era, and it's a trend that I'm glad was mostly done away with. 5/10
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition hearkens back to the Xbox 360/PS3 era of middle market first/third person shooters that you don't really see anymore. Obviously this game has a lot of jank, and I mean a lot of it; on top of that there are some pretty glaring issues with the core mechanics of the game itself, but pushing past everything reveals a pretty neat concept for a world that's begging to be fully fleshed out.
Focusing on the negatives first, you aren't playing this game for the gun play. Shooting feels weightless and there is a lack of variety among the weapons when you're fighting without your mech. Movement itself feels very stiff, especially in some of the more lower tier mechs. I will acknowledge that I understand the lower tier mechs are supposed to be more difficult to utilize as a form of progression so once the player gets to the higher tier mechs it feels like a powerful upgrade. However, to play devil's advocate to that very point, jumping with all forms of these mechs is a struggle as the distance in which they travel is extremely short and you cannot alter anything once the animation is in motion, meaning you could potentially fall off a cliff from a jump since you could not properly plan it out. Circling back to movement, controlling your character reveals he moves super slow and as far as I could tell, there was no dodge button. So, if an enemy was charging you you were essentially going to tank that damage. On top of this issue, multiple times will you get trapped in a knocked back animation because it takes so long to get up that by the time you're on your feet the enemy has fired another missile at you, repeating the whole process. This leads into the health system where it essentially acts on the same system as the Sonic games where you won't really die until your rings (heat in this scenario) fully deplete. I honestly like this concept, but there are two pretty glaring issues when it comes to this. The first is the game still presents a health bar for your player, which completely contradicts the heat system. In my entire play through of this game, my health never reached zero before my heat did, so I was never worrying about my health. This is more so just a little gripe in the grand scheme of things, and this is the same for the second issue as well. Throughout the game, your character is bombarded with missiles, torn to part by aliens, and gunned down by mechs, yet you get right back up each time with no visible damage. From a narrative perspective it doesn't make any sense, and it really takes you out of the game when you watch your player just pop right back up.
Now despite all these criticisms, I do believe there is a hidden gem present here as the story and world building presented was so unique that I've yet to find something scratches that same itch. Having a game set on a foreign planet that is completely covered in snow, where heat is a commodity is so interesting. On top of this, the game has this mechanical/futuristic look to a lot of the mechs and enemies that feels so ahead of it's time. Alot of the enemy designs take note from existing creatures, but transform them into these other-worldly monsters that isn't really seen in any media. Light spoilers for the story as well, but the general concept of trying to essentially heat the planet to melt all the snow presents many interesting story beats that it all culminates to an ending that easily sets up it's sequel and presents a variety of more questions then answers, yet still feeling equally as satisfying.
Overall, I know the negatives sound like they outweigh the positives greatly, but the amount of atmosphere and creativity this game presents is unmatched and is begging to be revisited for a remake or revival.
just fucking buy it. it's $14.99 CAD regular, $3.50 at sale- that's roughly $0.50 and $0.12 USD respectively. classic game, low price. just get it or wait for a sale if you're a broke bitch like me
Solid third person shooter with grappling hook mechanics and basic Armored Core style mech combat.
Very typical Capcom console game. The PC port is actually pretty good and seems to run well with no issues that I've encountered. The story isn't very interesting, but the setting is cool and the bombed out arctic base aesthetics and other locations are nice with good atmosphere.
Multiplayer is still possible via LAN and I'm pleased to find my memories of it being very fun from the demo on the 360 were not something I hallucinated. Mechs and silly ragdoll physics combine well here.I believe the true online multiplayer component has long been discontinued. If you have a few buddies and can get together on the same network, you're going to have a good time.
