I loved this game as a kid and now I love this game as a kid but turning into an adult feels great.
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is a game with both strengths and shortcomings.
The snowy landscapes and hostile alien creatures create a unique and atmospheric setting.
Combat is engaging, with a variety of weapons and the use of Vital Suits adding a fun mech element.
However, the story feels shallow and fails to leave a lasting impact...
The thermal energy mechanic, while interesting, can feel restrictive and disrupt exploration!
Compared to its sequel, this title lacks the polish and depth that could have elevated it further.
While Lost Planet: Extreme Condition has its moments, it ultimately pales in comparison to the improved experience offered by Lost Planet 2.
An engaging and fun single player adventure that combines on foot action with giant robotic combat. Aliens, Big Aliens, humans or mechs. You'll fight them all. The gameplay can be a little challenging given the quirks of the battle system, but not only do you get used to it but appreciate them as part of the challenge. Story is interesting, but could use better direction.
Played this again after nearly 20 years since release and, boy, does it not hold up. An interesting premise and a handful of cool ideas that are absolutely mired by frankly pointless missions (most of the combat feels gratuitous and, frequently, can be almost entirely run past until the boss fight), dated controls (doubly so their settings), overwhelming knockback that will stunlock you, some miserable boss fights, and a TERRIBLE story. Not even enjoyable bad, just awful to sit through. I finished it for teenage me, but I would never recommend this game.

I never played this when it was originally released in 2007. This game is not high art and that's o.k.. The design from over a decade shows with mission based structure and threadbare plot, which could be forgiven if it wasn't for the lack of direction for the stages. There's a big worm, "do I Kill it?". The final boss gives only parts a new control scheme and no idea how to best approach it. This kind of vaguery was a problem for some games of the era, and it's a trend that I'm glad was mostly done away with. 5/10
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition hearkens back to the Xbox 360/PS3 era of middle market first/third person shooters that you don't really see anymore. Obviously this game has a lot of jank, and I mean a lot of it; on top of that there are some pretty glaring issues with the core mechanics of the game itself, but pushing past everything reveals a pretty neat concept for a world that's begging to be fully fleshed out.
Focusing on the negatives first, you aren't playing this game for the gun play. Shooting feels weightless and there is a lack of variety among the weapons when you're fighting without your mech. Movement itself feels very stiff, especially in some of the more lower tier mechs. I will acknowledge that I understand the lower tier mechs are supposed to be more difficult to utilize as a form of progression so once the player gets to the higher tier mechs it feels like a powerful upgrade. However, to play devil's advocate to that very point, jumping with all forms of these mechs is a struggle as the distance in which they travel is extremely short and you cannot alter anything once the animation is in motion, meaning you could potentially fall off a cliff from a jump since you could not properly plan it out. Circling back to movement, controlling your character reveals he moves super slow and as far as I could tell, there was no dodge button. So, if an enemy was charging you you were essentially going to tank that damage. On top of this issue, multiple times will you get trapped in a knocked back animation because it takes so long to get up that by the time you're on your feet the enemy has fired another missile at you, repeating the whole process. This leads into the health system where it essentially acts on the same system as the Sonic games where you won't really die until your rings (heat in this scenario) fully deplete. I honestly like this concept, but there are two pretty glaring issues when it comes to this. The first is the game still presents a health bar for your player, which completely contradicts the heat system. In my entire play through of this game, my health never reached zero before my heat did, so I was never worrying about my health. This is more so just a little gripe in the grand scheme of things, and this is the same for the second issue as well. Throughout the game, your character is bombarded with missiles, torn to part by aliens, and gunned down by mechs, yet you get right back up each time with no visible damage. From a narrative perspective it doesn't make any sense, and it really takes you out of the game when you watch your player just pop right back up.
Now despite all these criticisms, I do believe there is a hidden gem present here as the story and world building presented was so unique that I've yet to find something scratches that same itch. Having a game set on a foreign planet that is completely covered in snow, where heat is a commodity is so interesting. On top of this, the game has this mechanical/futuristic look to a lot of the mechs and enemies that feels so ahead of it's time. Alot of the enemy designs take note from existing creatures, but transform them into these other-worldly monsters that isn't really seen in any media. Light spoilers for the story as well, but the general concept of trying to essentially heat the planet to melt all the snow presents many interesting story beats that it all culminates to an ending that easily sets up it's sequel and presents a variety of more questions then answers, yet still feeling equally as satisfying.
Overall, I know the negatives sound like they outweigh the positives greatly, but the amount of atmosphere and creativity this game presents is unmatched and is begging to be revisited for a remake or revival.
just fucking buy it. it's $14.99 CAD regular, $3.50 at sale- that's roughly $0.50 and $0.12 USD respectively. classic game, low price. just get it or wait for a sale if you're a broke bitch like me
Solid third person shooter with grappling hook mechanics and basic Armored Core style mech combat.
Very typical Capcom console game. The PC port is actually pretty good and seems to run well with no issues that I've encountered. The story isn't very interesting, but the setting is cool and the bombed out arctic base aesthetics and other locations are nice with good atmosphere.
Multiplayer is still possible via LAN and I'm pleased to find my memories of it being very fun from the demo on the 360 were not something I hallucinated. Mechs and silly ragdoll physics combine well here.I believe the true online multiplayer component has long been discontinued. If you have a few buddies and can get together on the same network, you're going to have a good time.
Piloting mechs is fun, but fighting giant monsters feels boring.
The excessive knockback and smoke effects make battles more frustrating than engaging.
The game is quite short and easy, so I recommend playing it on hard mode for a better challenge.
The game is not awful but I wouild not recommend and here is the list of reasons why:
1. Terrible control scheme and support for M&K, even while no controller is connected, the tips for VS controls are given for XboX controller;
2. Lots of dull segments where you have to roam vast levels while not even having sprint;
3. Final boss is horrendous.
So buy it only on sale if you wish to see how the first part looked like.
Lost Planet 1 is a pretty good starter version of the Lost Planet series, Lost Planet 2 is an upgrade of Lost Planet 1 although this part still has many bad points, it is still rated 6.5/10 (in my opinion), Lost Planet 3 OMG is the last part of the Lost Planet series this version disappoints me the most if you buy this part you should consider before buying LP3, hopefully the Lost Planet series will be revived in the near future and Lost Planet 2 can be sold again on Steam.
One of A KIND!!!
works great on steam deck. I remember playing this on xbox 360 or ps3, likely both. It was clunky then. Runs Smooth and its fun on steam deck.
If you played AC6, Titan Fall 2's campaign, or Helldivers and are looking for similar games this could scratch the itch. Roughly 50% 3rd person arcade shooter, 50% less complex AC gameplay. Story left much to be desired, however, as a low commitment 8ish hour game it was a very fun time with lots of Capcom flourishes (basic but very fun grappling hook for instance). Be warned there is some jank (getting stun locked by enemy missles, overrun by bugs, sketchy collision boxes, ect.). Would love to see a modern addition to the series that could resonate with fans of the aforementioned titles.
Not a bad game... controls are a little clunky, but story and gameplay were okay...
the condition is NOT extreme
360 online demo was good times
let me play lost planet 2 cowards
Yeah
55 / 100
an xbox 360 classic. you dont find quality games like this anymore
If you like big robots, giant monsters, grappling hooks & can put up with aged graphics, strange characters & jank then you'll probably enjoy Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. Whilst dated, there is most definitely fun to be had with this game. The story / characters are however very strange & you probably won't care about them at all. The real fun with this game comes from running about in a big mech suit, shooting giant bugs and people. The game also has a very unique health system which slowly decreases throughout the level unless you kill something & absorb its energy. Its a rather easy game too, until you reach a certain boss which is ridiculously hard - I had to lower the difficulty for this level. Whilst Lost Planet is rather enjoyable, its most definitely not for everyone due to its age, easy gameplay (throughout most of the game) & bland characters. The game does have a demo so perhaps give that a go first if you're on the fence about this one.
A remake of this with multiplayer servers back up needs to happen
This game still looks amazing. Playing it on a modern PC can show off its full glory. Some aspects of the gameplay may be outdated, but it's a journey worth completing. Capcom could find Lost Planet (no pun intended) among their older titles and continue the series.
A bit of a cult classic, but it isnt that special today, the graphics still hold up tho.
Its a third person shooter where you fight native aliens that all need to be shot in their glowing weak spot or soldiers that also pilot mechs.
The gunplay misses a bit of "oomph", but explosions still look fantastic.
Here comes a bit of the problems with the game:
The explosions are so over the top, after firing a rocket, it can take 10 seconds or so until you can see if you hit the damn thing and if its still there.
The mechs are cool, but not that fun too control, some mechs have such a terrible fov that your aiming reticule is inside the mech, so you cant really aim. Some mechs are like halve the screen, so you cant see what your aiming at.
The game also has a more "stage" structure of an arcade type game, every stage feels disjointed and just there for some gameplay idea's, which is fine by me, but could exclude some more modern players.
The game is also really short, the game has 11 missions that take around 20 minutes to beat, so with skipping the cutscenes you can beat it below 4 hours without even trying.
I loved it on 360, its alright today played on my Rog Ally (900p high settings 100fps).
If you want to play it from nostalgia, the pc port with a controller plays perfectly, but get it on a sale. For anybody new to the series, you're not missing out much
I'm sorry, past me ;) but for like 5 bucks or so, sure
After playing so many hours in helldivers 2 I remembered this game.
amazing
Best
Why is the planet lost? Was it misplaced? If you managed to lose something as big as a planet, you really have an extreme condition.
While Lost Planet's story is nothing special, the setting, aesthetics, and gameplay are all incredible. Ground combat is fun and occasionally scary, and your character moves quite slowly on the ground through the snowy landscape. What's much more fun is the mech suits, which each have their own unique quirks and abilities to give the player a variety of options when utilizing the faster, more powerful side of the game's combat.
My only real gripe is the immensely frustrating final boss. Not only are this PC port's controls not exactly the smoothest, the final fight gives you a completely different control set. The fight itself isn't bad, but the creators of the game seem to have flown too close to the sun. The fight is conceptually super cool, the issue is the technology used to make the game was probably not good enough for what they had in mind. The end result being a very janky mess that LOOKS super cool, but ends up being excessively difficult do to control issues.
It would be 10/10 if not for that last fight being so jank, but Lost Planet overall is still a solid 9/10 gameplay wise.
"Lost Planet: Extreme Condition" offers a thrilling blend of sci-fi shooter action and exploration in a frozen, alien world.
yes
A classic must, get it on sale !
Hopefully it will get a proper remake, this pc port is not so good, but this game deserve a remake on ue5.
capcom can eat my fucking asshole
Typical one man army game, you start small and kill everything in sight with weapon pickups, mech suits and regenerating health that also acts as a timer. You replenish the timer by killing and destroying objects. Notably tanks and other mech suits. You're met with a boss enemy at the end of a level and then meet the conclusion and move onto the next. A to B scenarios with some minor backtracking and swapping map layouts near the end of the game.
As cool as that sounds, this game suffers from the character being slow/standing in place during certain animations. So animation cancelling by jumping and rolling as well as grapple hooking is a must. What with this game being almost 20 years old, as well as being designed for consoles at the time. So you can imagine the limitations of a PC port like this.
Some bonus activities include a boss rush mode, time trial, score attack, arena multiplayer, and another difficulty above Hard mode. Not only do enemies hit harder but they swap spawns around more often. There's also collectable coins in each level that only serve as achievements back then but this isn't present on Steam since this was a Windows Live game. Overall if you want to spend 7 or so hours running through the main story it's a one and done type game. Favorite childhood game growing up so I'm a bit biased in recommending this.
Decent run and gun. Get it on sale.
controls like shit
story was good
likeable characters
very good ending to be fair
8/10
Lost Planet is a pretty fun 3rd-person shooter that is still quite good to play today. The main features of this game are its world and mechs.
The game doesn't have a particularly elaborate universe or deep lore, but it was quite fun to wander around this dead planet. The locations in the game have little detail and there is no point in exploring them, but they do the main thing — they support the atmosphere of the game.
Probably the biggest problem of the game is the plot. It is very difficult to follow the events, a lot of things happen behind the scenes, a lot of important things are not explained to the player and the mood of the story jumps from serious sci-fi to absurd anime about robots. I went through the whole game with the feeling that I was playing the game by skipping the cutscenes.
The gameplay itself in the game is a 3rd person shooter with not very user-friendly controls. The game starts to reveal itself when you get into the mech. Because there are many types of mechs in the game, and they all feel different.
There are many types of enemies in the game, from regular humans and mechs to various monsters, many of which require a special approach in combat. The bossfights themselves look spectacular, but they are all very simple and drawn out, except the final boss. Many people here complain about the final bossfight and yes it is bad, largely because it is not fair and requires skills that you have not been trained in over the course of the game.
All in all Lost Planet is an interesting concept and a good realization, which of course could have been better, but unfortunately in the sequels Capcom took the series in the wrong direction. It's a pity, because there are not many decent mech games, and Lost Planet is a good representative of this genre.
Very interesting, i really like this game , they let you use your player in robot transformer, where too me actually inn.Good target n shoot exercise. So, sad adventure so short.I like that kind intelligent free violence ...I recommended everybody.
This game does have some big flaws and you do feel it's age, but it still runs great, even after all these years, it's extremely cheap on sale, and is a fun short experience.
