This guy rocks. Love his game.
I believe I payed less than a dollar for this "game", if you can call it that. I don't regret the purchase, but I'm still not sure I got my money's worth.
It's a simple hack-n-slash with controls that feel a bit off (clicking attack often caused my character to lurch left or right and swing at empty air), and levels so ugly I've literally never seen graphics and level design this bad. There's zero production value here - forget about spoken dialog or any such niceties. The world is boring, ugly hallways devoid of color, and the variety of enemies... well I only ever encountered one. I also didn't find any challenge to it, and this is coming from someone who is actually pretty terrible at most computer games.
That being said, it's not all bad. I did have perhaps twenty minutes of fun romping around beating up enemies before getting bored with it, and all for less than the cost of my last can of soda. So, if it's cheap enough (and it had better be pretty cheap) and you're bored, perhaps looking for a way to kill an afternoon, I'd say go for it!
No
Better than DMC2
Awful.
So far I am slowly getting used to the game mechanics, won't lie I played this for at least 2 hours and made it to the wastelands. Its a difficult game at times but of course the developer is willing to hear feedback and help fix the game. To me that is a plus, from someone who did a solo game make this isn't so bad. Reminding me of DMC, and of course I do like the music, making it quite enjoyable. If there was a cleaned up version down the line I will defintely buy it.
Really bad copy of DMC etc. Not even worth the 4 Euro it asks for. And looks like a ugly PS1 console port which it isnt.
The movement is very slow and clunky, and for mouse, the sensitivity even at max is way too low. This game does show some promise, but to me it seem far from complete.
Mouse breaking simulator.
I mean, after watching the trailer I didn't expect much. But what I got was even below my expectations. The loading is tremendous if you think about the 20 assets that needs to be loaded in. It's not exceptable, even for a game made by 1 guy. All in all, the game is clunky and the core mechanics just don't work. I don't care if that guy is working alone, but he needs to shift his focus on polishing his game and the core mechanics instead of adding more unpolished stuff into it. I hit alt+f4 in the first level, because I was generous. Everyone else would leave at the tutorial already.
I won't refund it for the dollar I bought it, because I know the troubles of Indies, but he deserves the negative review and I hope he understands he should fix the core mechanics and give me 1 decent looking level.
ZHUST- THE ILLUSION SOUL will most appeal to fans of the Devil May Cry / Chaos Legion / El Shaddai games as its enemy, world, and character designs resemble some of the gothic influence of those games, while depicting a strange, dream-like, sci-fi realm unique to itself. This game is VERY rough around the edges, however. From its graphics to its animations to the layout of the worlds, the game isn't the "best-looking" but it all works together into a cohesive whole which fits the game's unique identity.
I personally really like the graphical style, its somewhat sketchy feeling figures have a unique aesthetic. The character faces up close, however, appear for lack of a better word "ugly" at times, especially when they inexplicably seem to contort their face or wink with one eye for no reason. It's unfortunate that some of the animations (most notably your character's running) look a bit wonky. (the developer addressed this in an earlier patch to make it appear less so, but when moving from left to right while running straight ahead your character still kind of jumps from facing forward to facing a 45 degree angle kind of abruptly) the character's default jump animation looks pretty bad as well, but once you unlock the double jump it appears to be more natural.
In combat the game moves smoothly, and the actions you input are pulled off reliably. The game features logical controller support (on Xbox One USB) which makes using your abilities, such as pulling enemies toward you (or yourself toward enemies ala DMC) fluid as you rack up combos similar to DMC's "style" system. You are rewarded with a currency in the game to purchase a variety of upgrades from better combos to a double jump to items to assist you as you navigate the areas.
The levels seem varied and the story is well-presented, including full cutscenes with a variety of characters and frequent, large boss fights that shake up the action.
The level design, while looking quite nice and colorful at certain moments can look pretty bad in others. A pet peeve of mine in games is when there are invisible walls restricting your movement through an area and this game has many of those in its city sections, you just "cant go that way" a lot of the time and while there is some exploration and hidden areas to discover, other areas are simply cordoned off and unexplorable due to these invisible walls, which is unfortunate and breaks some of your immersion in the interesting world being presented.
Despite this game's low price, quite a bit of content is present including the broad storyline, numerous levels, player upgrades, and enemy variety. While at times the game can look a bit "cheap", it's obvious the developer(s) want their product to be received well and are very receptive to feedback and addressing bug issues encountered with the game.
This game was a nice surprise to find! Its world and design are unique, which make its shortcomings in other areas (animation / some low-budget looking sections) less noticable. I would recommend looking up some raw gameplay footage to get a better idea of how it looks in motion (and to perhaps temper your expectations a bit) before pulling the trigger, but I'm glad I did and I hope this game can find its audience.
this game is decent i wouldn't pay full price at the state its in.
in all honesty the fighting mechanics are good but the walk cycle is kinda chunky and looks unnatural, also jumping looks somewhat clanky as well. it would also be good to hear voice overs for the intro dialogue.
also when the tutorial starts i suggest making it so you can re read the steps i ended up stuck because i couldnt re read what it wanted me to do and i had to restart.
this game has potential
i recommend this game at its current price.
REVIEW WARNING
I have already refunded this game
Its clunky, slow, difficult to control, has almost no standard options (such as invert look which is on (pad) by default).
I get that its a translated game but it is very poorly done, the controls are not at all intuitive with commands being assigned to very off keys (cannot rebind that I could see) and while graphics do not really bother me i know it does some, so Ill also mention that its actually not much above the PSX tomb raider games in terms of actually looks.
The music however seems very fitting to the game aesthetics, though i did play with Copyright music turned off so I cant say what quality that has.
Not for me thanks
Edit: The dev has since fixed the lack of invert controles. so atleast they are willing to listen to feedback! kudos
