Devil may cry but instead of a cocky dude fighting demons its a cunty witch fighting angels
Magical British stripper fights the messengers of God and there's some Italian guy too
It's one of the best character action games of all time, but I'm having an issue with game crashes and invisible models during cutscenes.
Yassified DMC. Despite being a hack & slash, you can actually play it in your own style instead of just spamming the attack button. And that's a good enough reason for me to try this game out. Good story, memorable characters, amazing gameplay......only fools would ask for more!! Its a cult classic, so you're definitely missing out by not playing this game.
despite generally enjoying beat em ups & slashers like original Greek era GOW games, DMC etc I really didn't Bayonetta
I always heard about this game in periphery as a cult-classic and fan favorite. I knew I'd love the style and design just from some screenshots of the game. I was worried because the hack/slash type of games usually aren't my forte. This game changed it all. Its campy, cxnty, and combat LACED. Of course there are some sequences and chapters that are more interesting than others, but this game overall is a new favorite of mine.
Gameplay wise it throws you right into it and its a button mash for sure, by the end you're very accustomed to combos and the timing of dodges. That was a learning curve, this game is brutal on timing QTEs, combo dodges, and button presses, SUPER rewarding when you figure it out, keep trying those combos.
Biggest suggestion I have, that maybe there is a way to do it, but the loading screen to practice combos loads too quickly on the PC version - so you don't get to work on combo perfecting unless you're in game , Alfhiem, or Gates of Hell.
I had no issues running the game.
The combat, when not continuously interrupted, can be fun if a little demanding but weighted against said interruptions, bad camera, dreadful QTE's, seemingly endless cut scenes (many of which are static, all containing mind-numbing dialogue about a plot that will cure your insomnia), the boring shooter mini-game your forced to play over and over and over, and not forgetting the inexplicable inclusion of the pathetic motorcycle and space shooter levels... all in all it's a solid not recommended here.
An absolutely amazing play, fair difficulty (except for odd QTE), with immense amount of collectables and secrets. Bayonetta is 19 chapters (and a couple secret chapters) of pure angel slaughter and sexiness (come on, its like rated M, expect nudity already). I havent beaten the game yet, im around chapter 14, but i have to say this game has a easy to handle story and beautiful graphics. The witch has aged like fine wine for her steam port.
Difficulty is fair, but i'll be light on that fair, as sometimes there are *INSANE* difficulty spikes, but the games creativity and combat system makes up for it, there are some bosses ive noticed where reflecting their aggresion with the same aggresion tends to make it easier. Weapons are abundant, and you'll see yourself swapping sets on the fly(me to the moon) for your current situation.
The steam port for this game is absolutely perfect, as a mostly PC player (only use controllers for mhw), the combos have been really easy to digest and execute. The graphics improvement from console to pc is also noticeable, everytime i watch a cutscene i feel like im playing a book, it just feels so **good**.
In conclusion, i 1200 GIGATON% recommend this to anyone who hasnt played this game, or a hack n slash in general. This pack of angel slaying, dance-fighting, and being a BAD-BITCH is a rival to DMC and so many others, but i put this girl highly above all the rest.
So give it a shot, wont ya? Fly Bayonetta To the Moon.
Even with retrying chapters multiple times over I still had an absolute blast playing this game.
The combat isn't just click one button and win you actually have to learn your moves and learn how to dodge. The game will switch up play styles like driving or riding on a missile!
For music I was dancing along with Bayonetta at the end credits which is all I need to say.
The story is interesting and engaging, the game knows what it is and doesn't take itself too seriously.
If you remotely even kinda like hack and slash or just fun story telling pick up this game!
People like to say that this game is only for gooners, which isnt entirely incorrect BUT I would say that this game is campy: "Having deliberately artificial, vulgar, banal, or affectedly humorous qualities or style: played up the silliness of their roles for camp effect." - Urban Dictionary. It's a mix of gooner bait and genuinely good piece of media.
So,
1. This game has a steep learning curve, but once you get the hang of at least a couple of combos, you can have a lot of fun. (I play on very easy, and I'm still having trouble with combos LMAO)
2. The story is really engaging, while also not taking itself too seriously; a quality I also enjoy in DMC games.
3. The aesthetics of the game are TOP TIER. You like religious symbolism and motifs? scary enemy and boss designs? sexy women AND men??? play the gameeeeee
100% worth purchasing on sale. "Easy to learn, hard to master" type of game. Gooner cinematics.
Good game but a pretty ok port. Bugs and glitches are really common in this version like invisible characters and items in cutscenes, enemies never appearing during battles, the pause screen straight up being unable to load, and a couple of minor ones. The bugs aren't enough to ruin the game it's still damn good but if that turns you off I suggest playing a different version.
Fun as fuck game, can't believe I haven't played this before. It's fun, addicting and somehow still holds strong as a great game in the modern landscape of games.
Basically, if you love having fun and/or like stupid shit, then this is the perfect game for you.
Pros:
+ brutal
+ sexy
+ stylish
+ humorous
Cons:
- saves mid-mission can work weirdly, and require you to do a whole chapter in one session
Very buggy (at least on Windows 11) and awful camera.
I really like gameplay of this game, but it's impossible to play with such camera and these crashes
"Bayonetta" offers a stylish and over-the-top action experience.
The game features a unique and memorable cast of characters, each with their own distinct personalities.
Bayonetta's story is engaging and full of twists and turns.
Finally, I have a question: why aren't Bayonetta 2 and 3 on Steam?
Bayonetta
Rating: 7/10 - Good
Bayonetta has a Great and smooth combat system with a high skill ceiling, combined with a ridiculously fun story, some Great art direction and Good set pieces. There is also a Great soundtrack that binds everything together, the main issue with the game are the QTEs, which suck in most games that have them outside the interactive movie genre of games.
Devil May Cry with hot witch lady. The combos are awesome and the combat system feels fluid, the only jarring part of the game for me is how some enemies can't be touched at certain times and the camera can be a bit much for me.
Unhinged in every way. You can tell the developers were doing literally whatever the fuck they wanted to and the end result is like nothing else. It also happens to be one of the best action games ever made and one of the longest arcade games. You can play it on normal a single time and have a blast or you can spend the rest of your life trying to pure platinum every chapter on the highest difficulty. Both are valid ways of playing
***REVIEW OF THE PC PORT, NOT THE GAME ITSELF***
Please dont play this on PC. If you do, don't let it sit in your library and play it soon so you can check if your game has bugs. I only played the vestibule chapter, which is roughly the first hour of the game, and even within that I had several bugs including one game breaking one.
spoilers for the vestibule chapter cutscenes below
--- During several cutscenes, many of the in-game models were invisible, to the point where I actually couldn't tell what was going on at some points until I watched the cutscene on youtube and saw what was *actually* happening. For me, all of these cutscenes were bugged:
- When Bayonetta and Enzo were in the car, the plane crashing did not reflect in the rear-view mirror (the mirror was just flat gray) so I had no idea what Enzo was expressing concern about until the plane crash happened in the following scene
- When Bayonetta and Jeanne were having their stand-off, their guns were completely missing / invisible so they were shooting things / pointing at each other with finger guns
- *I did this chapter three times after troubleshooting each time, and the first time I did it, Bayonetta's gun models were invisible even before this cutscene during actual combat
- The bus that drives / crashes between Bayonetta and Jeanne (which gives Jeanne some cover to flee) was invisible
- Enzo's car, which Bayonetta grabs from the air and throw on the road, was completely invisible
--- Besides things being invisible, some parts of the cutscenes just did not happen
- The first time I played through the prologue chapter, Bayonetta's flashback she has while in Enzo's car did not play
--- While trying to play this chapter a second time, I skipped the earlier cutscenes to try to get to the last one (where Bayonetta and Jeanne are having a stand off) because that was where I was having the most bugs and I wanted to check if they were fixed or not. However, when I skipped the cutscene where Bayonetta and Enzo are talking then see the plane crash, instead of taking me right to combat, the game showed me a static image of the road / bridge that the cutscene I skipped took place on. Bayonetta fell off screen, and I couldnt see nor move her. Nothing I pressed on the controller let me move past that screen to start combat. I could still open the pause menu, however, but I couldn't do much there because the only option on that menu was pretty much to return to the game (which was still a static screen of the road). After waiting a few minutes for the combat area to load in, nothing was happening, so I just had to restart the entire game.
I've verified the files at least 7-8 times. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I changed the resolution. I stopped using bluetooth devices (like my speaker) in case that was causing issues. I dont have a single mod for this downloaded so nothing could be interfering in that regard. I even uninstalled my antivirus because it was taking up so much ram and ive seen people say that uninstalling it made their computer run so much faster. None of these solutions did anything, and the problem might actually be worse now as ive been getting the un-progressable static image screen more often. I've been looking online for ways to fix this but I've only come across a handful of other people that have these same issues, and I haven't found a surefire way to fix it. I've look at many forums and guides for other common bugs which people seem to have with this port (such as the smaller screen duplicate popping up during cutscenes or the insane framerate drop), and I luckily don't have these, but as I said these are different issues from mine so I still don't know how to fix this game. I think it's a lost cause at this point :(
Regardless of whether it's the invisible model bugs I was having, the framerate drop, or other crashes, this port seems to have a lot of issues that really take away from the enjoyment and even playability of this game. I was excited to play Bayonetta and I'm really disappointed I can't for now knowing that my cutscenes will be confusing because of invisible models and I may have random crashes at some point that necessitate restarting the game entirely. This is clearly meant to be played on something else, like a Switch or Xbox.
"Bayonetta: Devil Wears Prada meets Devil May Cry."
"Dark Souls? Nah, this is Thirst Souls."
"Bayonetta: Striptease and slay."
"God of War, but make it fabulous."
"Bayonetta is just Vogue Magazine with a body count."
"Bayonetta didn’t just slay demons, she slayed my bedroom."
"Played for the combat, stayed for that sASS."
10/10 highly recommended
One of a kind. Totally worth it. Im in my 30ies and the game is easier than i thought (normal difficulty) and it shows game is kinda old, so just hop into normal mode, strone award will be normal first playthrough. id like to play more and modern stuff of this game. but its one of those things that we had in our generation that did go insinct. enjoy ez buy. lg
I had forgotten how absolutely buttery smooth this game plays. Absolutely amazing, and a perfect companion to my deck.
Now if only Nintendo would let us have the rest of the series.
Runs fine at a capped 60 fps and decent port. This game is on par with Devil May Cry in my opinion, a must pick up. Hopefully they bring sequels to the pc as well, but doubtful Nintendo wants to make any extra cash.
I adore this game and would recommend any fan of hack n' slash and amazing characters to play it. BUT, the Steam release has had a lot of stuttering since launch and seems to have worsen since Windows 11 released. I've tried with a 4gb patch and various other methodes but I can't fix it. It is not unplayable but it does affect the experience.
If anyone have a modern way to fix this please type it in the comment section, otherwise I beg new players to find a way to play Bayonetta, it's close to perfection.
Hack and slash game with hot women. Literally what more could you ask for? (except for the other 2 games to be ported to pc)
play this game if u love big tittied strong women, 10/10 the soundtrack is the best part of this game
One of the best hack and slash games I have ever played.
The perfect quote that summarizes this game is -
"Most games sexualize femininity but Bayonetta feminizes sexuality".
Play through the game once, and you will get it.
Everyone gets nothing but Stones for a long time, no shame there.
The best game in the Bayo series. Truly iconic in its own way and I have a deep love from the combat and over the top sexualization.
The story and music are just really something to come back to and enjoy a second time.
Rodin MVP
Not my type of game but gave it a go. The combat is great and works well and can see the appeal but I'm not the targeted audience for this one.
The game is excellent, but I believe we won't be getting Bayonetta 2 or 3 on Steam any time soon. It’s crucial that we see these games in HD and at 60fps on steam!
11~ Hours. This was even better than I was led to believe, both in the visuals AND the combat - and that's coming from someone who usually struggles to enjoy spectacle or action games. This opinion might be controversial but after playing Devil May Cry 3, God of War 2, Metal Gear Rising, Ninja Gaiden, Darksiders 2, Prince of Persia, and God Hand - I honestly think Bayonetta was better than all of them.
Very good indeed, it is very hard to play with one hand though
Bayonetta is a game, as i play this game, this very good and also the same guy who made the Devil May Cry on it is just i find very cool because after The Devil May Cry 4 was Release
~35 hour playtime. this game fucks hard. super engaging third person fighting with nice metaprogression. highly reccomend
There was a lot of the story i did not understand, but it was alright. The fighting is great, and the animations for the "torture" it fantastic.
There are a lot of small bosses and big bosses, and i had some problems with them considering the key mapping, because it feels like a switch-game in many ways. There are some quick time reactions that feels weird, but might make sense with a switch, and the camera wants to move by itself a lot of the times. I had to spend some time in the settings in the beginning to put up the sensitivity and invert all of the camera settings.
Kinda makes me want a switch to play the other games.
Obviously I haven't played a lot so far (ANOTHER game I'm really late to), but so far this game is amazing. Maybe I'll change this review later, but it's got the right amount of making you feel like a boss while still being challenging. The enemy types are fun so far, the bosses are incredibly unique and enjoyable, the art-style and direction is fun and intriguing and overall, the game is so far just a blast. Maybe I'll go more in depth with this review later when I've played more, but so far, it's just a fun lighthearted game.
Peak character action. Even if a good third of the enemy types annoy the shit out of me, that only helps me get immersed because Bayonetta's just as annoyed as me that she has to kill them.
WITCH GIRLBOSSES FIGHTING EVIL ANGELS!!!!! this is PEAK AS HELL yall play it (especially if youre a DMC fan and never tried out Bayonetta) as an Hack n slash lover Bayonetta has the best hack n slash gameplay ive played until now
GO PLAY IT WITHOUT HESITATION <33
the best game to play if you story combat games.
very cool hacking and slashing. unfortunately this is one of those games where your looking behind you half of the time
i absolutely love this game, its perfect. the soundtrack, the characters and everything is so aesthetically pleasing and cool. love the idea.
I love this game to noooo end. The plot and storyline???? HELLOOOO ITS SOO GOOD and also love bayonetta shes queen DUHHH!!!!
Super fun game especially for how old it is. I will definitely be playing the second and third ones considering how much i loved the first game, sadly the other Bayonetta games is exclusive to Nintendo. Overall, would definitely recommend to anyone who likes boss-rush/hack'n'slash games
Level design, characters, gameplay, story, scenery; all so good so far but the game is full of bugs. Pause menu doesn't show up, cloud saves are bugged, item page has bugs, enemies doesn't show up in some levels. If you have the chance to play this without bugs, it is awesome. I wish they cared a little more about the pc version too, it can get unplayable at times.
It is unplayable, game keeps minimizing on start. Tried almost all solutions from internet, did not help. Incredible stupid error, even though was able to play for a few hours
Bayonetta literally is a peak hack n' slash experience, and I can confidently say that it is shoulder to shoulder with other peak games of the genre even to this day, which is wild.
I really like the combat system and spectacle fights in this game because all of it is absurd, epic, and grand; even the cutscene and story are like that, and in my head I would be like, "What the fuck is going on?" "Huh? Wtf is that?!" every time I progress the story forward. The combat is simple enough that newcomers will get it but also has a high skill ceiling like a fighting game for those who want to experiment and polish their skills. The visual style and art design is also still great for how old it is, like I love the character and enemy designs; they're just so vibrant, unique, and definitely fit the setting. Finally, the thing I didn't expect was how much content was in this game while still being respectful of your time, like I can play for an hour or two doing a chapter then leave and I can pick up where I left off without losing momentum. It kind of reminds me of old arcade games where you can play for a short time but still have the satisfaction and joy of playing for a longer period of time.
That said, a few minor issues and nitpicks stand out. First, this isn’t a game where once you complete a gameplay sequence, you can put your controller down and relax. Why? Well, since it has QTEs and some enemy attacks right after a cutscene that is hard to react to unless you know it will happen. While I’m fine with QTEs during combat, it can be frustrating when enemies ambush you immediately after a cinematic moment.
I also encountered a technical bug where if you stream the game (I streamed it on Discord) or if you use the in-game browser overlay on Steam to watch several YouTube videos, the game will have a hard time processing assets and events. For example, when I was watching 3 YouTube guides to find secrets, enemies wouldn't load in or the map (specifically Chapter 6 Road 666) wouldn't load either, and if I tried to pause, it would take a long time just to bring up the pause menu. The only fix I found was to close down those tabs or stop streaming the game, then reload the game.
But even with those issues, Bayonetta is still a fantastic game, and you should play it if you like action hack n' slash games or something similar. The wealth of secrets encourages replayability, and the combat system offers endless opportunities for experimentation. I initially came for the fanservice but stayed for the bombastic, over-the-top antics that define Bayonetta.
One of the greatest games ever made, the best Bayonetta game, and a character action masterpiece
Coming off of The Wonderful 101, this game still has all the Platinum trademarks this early on- Incredible Combat, Fun Characters and a ranking system that beats you over the head and encourages you to master the controls and these stages.
Although, I did have some issues. Some QTEs were super tight and really take you off guard. Some other parts of the game also felt like they dragged on a little bit, the missile and bike segments (While being cool and fun) suffered because of this.
But overall, I loved this game. I would highly recommend it for anyone wanting a competent action game.
They call me the Stone-Cold Killer, on account of all the stone awards I receive.
Holy moly, I suck mega-ass at Bayonetta, and probably by extension character action games as a whole, (this is pretty much the only one I have played). However, despite the ass-suckage, I had an honest to God great time throwing myself into the wolves with this one.
Bayonetta has been one of those games that have been rotting away on my shelf and steam library. Man, I gotta stop buying games for a while, I’ve owned this whole series on Switch (even the spin-off) for a while now, and I’m only just now getting to it. To move away from my terrible videogame spending habits, I’m so glad for the Fellas Game of the Month to give the excuse to finally check this game out. Bayonetta fucking slaps in pretty much every regard.
The opening of Bayonetta is honestly one of the best openings of any game I’ve played. It sets your expectations perfectly. It slams you into a badass set piece, no instructions just ball out. Then you get to the proper intro, which is just jam packed with so much character and style. The Characters are all over the top goofballs and I love them all, and the intro does such a great job at showcasing this. SPOILERS for the intro. A goddamn stone slab landing on Rodin’s head which he unfazed by, and Enzo being Enzo. All while Bayonetta is just decimating angels in wacky ways grabbing dozens of guns being lobbed at her by Rodin, as a kickass song plays followed by an equally kickass cover of Fly Me to the Moon. That opening is the definition of perfection and sets the game up so damn well.
As previously mentioned, I am hot ass at this game. Combo lists scare me, it’s why I’m not into traditional fighting games, and Bayonetta very much has one. I was able to remember a few things, but I failed to make use of the broader move set which is quite vast and in-depth. Even when not using Bayonetta’s move set to its fullest, it was incredibly satisfying and rewarding to pull off crazy combos (best I could muster) and triggering witch time (slow-mo) constantly. Not a fan of the moves that required inputting an attack and directional input at the same time, as the timing is brutal on those. But again, this is the Stone-Cold Killer we’re talking about so maybe I’m just ass.
You know what else is ass? The quick time events. Not all of them mind you, but some give you a miniscule amount of time to react, which can result in a death. There are also quick time events that involve mashing a button, and it feels like you have preemptively mash the button in order to get the max on them. Just an unfortunate little grievance on an otherwise fantastic game, because otherwise I have no complaints.
I’m surprised by how much I liked Bayonetta. I’ve always heard good things but I didn’t expect it to go this hard. Damn... I really gotta check out the rest of the series.
