Sexy, stylish, and campy in all the best ways imaginable! Bayonetta is a top-notch spectacle fighter that definitely helped solidify PlatinumGames's reputation for developing high-quality action games. It's easy to see why after playing this. Responsive controls, hilariously over-the-top setpieces, empowering mechanics, and a healthy dose of sex appeal all come together to make an awesome game! Pick this one up, especially if you like spectacle fighters and other stylish action games!
(...Although if you do like spectacle fighters and other stylish action games, you probably played this one, right? If not, absolutely get around to it!)
awesome game but one minor issue, it turned me into bayonetta as well
I've never played a game that hates the player as much as this one, I know it's old but damn, such a chore to play.
This is a really good game. Combat is fast paced, the story is decent, and the humor is pretty good. The main protagonist, Bayonetta, is badass and beautiful. This how a woman should look like in a video game. Just waiting for Bayonetta 2 and 3.
bad port, can't get past the prologue because the level afterwards won't load, cutscenes are laggy and models won't load in them either.
Already had to write a review when I saw the amazing cut scenes and fun game play. Also I get to play as a hot mommy female character.
Great game in both gameplay, style and overall atmosphere.
Badass, sexy, mid age woman killing angels while the most beautiful version of "Fly me to the moon" is blessing my ears. What more can I ask for?
I really don’t get how Steam still doesn’t have a mid-tier option
between its recommend vs do not recommend ratings (like a "your mileage may vary" option or something),
because that non-existent mid-tier rating is what I’d give this. Without it’s frankly far too many crappy gimmick sections (the motorcycle stage, missile ride section, turret section, doodoo platforming stages, laser dodge section) and dumbass cutscene QTEs (seriously, whoever’s original idea that concept was, I hope their pillows
are forever slightly warm and damp on both sides), this would be a 100%
recommend from me. Platinum or whoever was responsible for this could have taken the pc port as an opportunity
to add actual QOL features (like a goddamn adjustable camera to start) to the
game and remove the unnecessary garbage (or better yet, improve it) instead of just unlocking the
framerate and calling it a day, but I guess the lazy route is easier so we get this
instead. As it is, it’s still one of the greatest character action games of all time, but in comparison to something like DMC5 it definitely hasn’t aged too well. It’s too bad the rest of the franchise is still locked to a console with less computing power than a smartwatch, but them’s the breaks I guess.
A crack binge set to girlrock that when played right makes you an untouchable goddess spreading death and destruction like that one girl and herpes, and when played wrong straight up kills you
Extremely enjoyable, uncomfortably sexual and quite difficult. It's clear that the devs really put their souls into it, worth the money.
5/5
I missed Bayonetta back in 2009 because I didn’t like how the main character looked. Videogames are mostly visual artforms, and if you don’t like what you see in front of you, you probably won’t like interacting with it either. The game was directed by Hideki Kamiya, though, so it remained always in the back of my head throughout the years. Kamiya directed the original Devil May Cry, so he knows what he’s doing when it comes to action games, specifically 3D brawlers. In 2020, I finally decided to give the game a try. And I’m glad I did. It’s such a fast-paced game, with so much action and so many cool moves. The enemy design is amazing, and Bayonetta’s hair-powered special moves are incredible. She can summon huge monsters with her hair to finish off her enemies, in a fatality-style move. The action is crazy, too. Right at the start of the game we fight a bunch of enemies while falling from a skyscraper, enemies spawning non-stop. The whole style of the game is ridiculous, in a good way, and I wouldn’t expect anything else from a game made in Japan (we already know how weird their art can get). The story is uninteresting, and perhaps even silly but I hardly noticed it amidst all the wild action on display, so it didn’t bother me too much. I wasn’t exactly playing the game for the story anyway. I just wanted to kill beautiful monsters. The environments are cool, too, and some of the music is awesome. I also liked how she can slow down time after a perfectly timed dodge. It feels amazing to control Bayonetta and I felt that whenever I was hit by an enemy it was totally my lack of skill. The combos are done in a dial-up manner, like in Ninja Gaiden, as opposed to Devil May Cry’s more specific inputs, but in no way is that a bad thing, since you can string moves from your equipped weapons on the fly, and thus create insane combos. And you know, Bayonetta’s look even started to grow on me. Her walking animations, for example, were expertly done, and highlighted her sensuality perfectly. Unfortunately, for some reason, I stopped playing the game halfway through, having clocked in around 6 hours of play time. I should play this game again one day, from start to finish.
Game itself is pretty of good. Over the top in a good way and Bayonetta herself is a gorgeous character with very eccentric mannerisms. Gameplay is also quite challenging. At some points it can be frustrating, but I feel that some could easily call it rewarding over time.
HOWEVER, PC version is buggy as hell. Chapter 1. The last boss is invisible. So you cannot progress. I had to restart a couple of times before I could finally see the boss and beat them. Normal enemies also had the same problem. Sometimes I restart a chapter and I meet enemies I didn't encounter before. Turns out it was not some randomize thing, but rather they did not load previously. Chapter 7 had to restart so many times, because a bug made it so that the boss did not reach second phase. Also so many times, I had to restart the game simply because it would suddenly hang. At some point, I didn't know if a missing feature was an intended game mechanic for extra challenge or simply because of a bug.
All these bugs, plus how challenging the game was, and I already found myself giving up. I already gave up on trying to get a good score. I just want to finish the game, just so I can see the end and be done with this.
What a gorgeous game.
Bayonetta is stunning to look at. The artwork is phenomenal. The combat system is rewarding. The game has an amazing intro and ending (for a man who likes sexy women). It runs flawlessly on PC.
The dialogue is lackluster at times, but we are not quite here for the plot. The game leaves you wanting more combo variety and weapons, but mastering what already is there is going to keep you busy.
Simply put, Bayonetta is one of a kind. If you consider yourself a gamer, this is game you must play at least once.
There are so many BUGS!!!!!!
For god sake, any fix? I love this game and played on PS before, but the pc version is really crap...

Swag and Fancy i like it.
The game overall is really nice (some fights do scratch some nerves) but that's just part of the game.
Techniques are sick and everything overall looks awesome. If you like it get it if you are unsure maybe wait for a sale. Hoewever there is one bad thing about it. This port (Pc port) is not really optimized, im not saying it's unplayable but there are a few moments where the game goes 30 fps when you are performing climax (Bayo ability attack). Overall other than that it's great. Game runs at stable 60 and make sure you enable V-sync because there is alot of tearing with V-sync off.
I had this in my library for a while, thankfully since the game is stylized it doesn't show its age.
The graphics are really good, the story is fun and over the top, you can tell everyone involved in the game had fun working on it.
The mechanics revolve around making combos to make the most damage to an enemy or group of them, maybe its my fault but by the end I devolved in just spaming the same combo with the sword.
One of my complaints is that you have to play trough each difficulty to unlock the next one, I usually just like to go for the hardest from the get go.
The bosses are really good, I like the gigantic bosses that you have to destroy limb by limb, really my only complain is that the final boss has an insta kill attack that can spawn right below your feet giving you no change to dodge.
Its the kind of game that you should play idealy from one go or with little days in between sessions at risk of forgetting the controls.
I had a lot of fun with the game my only regreat is that I like to have all the games of a saga in the same platform, with this one it will not be possible.
Bayonetta is HOT, story is good, game play is good, camera is SHIT.
kicking ay ess ess while serving see you en tee? YES PLEASE!!! super fun and the most innovative (and cool) version of the light vs dark plot I've ever seen 💖
A unique game of its kind. I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND BAYONETTA, especially if you're fed up with the lesbo gay rainbow sh!t diversity of the modern AAA titles.
such a good game, wish i could play it all over again, entire ending had me sitting with smile X3
It started with a bang and ended with a bang.
After playing this game, I can understand why it is so iconic. The character design, dialogues, fighting styles, and soundtrack certainly can leave a mark on a person.
First, we start a little out of place: What are we doing in a cemetery? Why is a nun praying? Why doesn't the short fella shut up? But then, the game shows you it is here to be a very enjoyable trip in a war between a witch and angels, with Bayonetta trying to remember her past. There are moments that caught me off guard, I wasn't expecting Bayonetta to be so sassy, sensual, and fierce.
I hated Luka at the start, he was annoying, but then there was some development and I started liking his dynamic with Bayonetta. Rodin was also an interesting character although he didn't show up much, but his design and personality are cool. Jeanne was a mystery that kept being unveiled throughout the game.
The soundtrack is also really something else, the tunes were in my head almost all the time, especially the cover for "Fly Me to the Moon". This game is filled with bangers!
The combat style is so satisfying! The combos and unlockable techniques make the gameplay very varied and fun when fighting the enemies.
Overall, a very solid game, I truly enjoyed it from the beginning till its end. Even stood for some time checking the gallery that unlocks after finishing the game.

This Needs to Stop.
99% of the criticisms you see in negative reviews are coming from people who feel entitled to an awesome action experience without putting in time/effort to learn the game. Disregard them.
I'll tell you the real reason you should not buy Bayonetta: it will kill your controller.
See, the YouTuber Hideki Kamiya grew up in an arcade, and does not know what controllers are, or that they cost money. Before finding his true passion as a vlogger, he set out to develop games for arcades; alas, arcades had already died by the time he got to realize what was once his dream, so most of his games ended up on home consoles and PC, where people use controllers to play.
As a true auteur, this unfortunate development did not stop Kamiya from realizing his vision. When confronted with the fact that 95% of controllers did not survive the full length of any of his games due to his over use of mash-to-win mechanics, as they wheeled in his new arcade cabinet in the background, he responded:
Future Press wrote:
I want you all to challenge your limits and master this game.
I think this man is shameless. I think we need to take a stand and tell Kamiya and people like him: arcades could afford to periodically replace broken buttons because they're businesses.
And Kamiya, I am not a business.
I refuse to pay in controllers to experience your nostalgia trip. I will only buy 2 or 3 to beat the game on Normal to unlock Hard, Hard to unlock NSIC, NSIC to unlock Pillow Talk, platinum all chapters to unlock Jeanne, beat Angel Slayer to unlock Little King Zero, complete 100 chapters to unlock Sai Fung, collect 10,000,000 halos to unlock Rodin and beat him to unlock Golden Rings, but it stops there.
We are not gonna take it anymore. This is the last time we spend 100s of hours playing one of your games on multiple platforms, Kamiya.
Game was the most fun when you were beating up groups of peons, but this is only about 30% of the game. The rest is a bunch of boss fights. You'll also die to a bunch of dated-feeling quicktime events.
man it's so campy and stylish, pulling off combos and getting better is so rewarding and fun would highlyy recommended bayonetta to anyone that likes DMC or hack and slashes because it's arguably one of the best and my favorite.
Nonsensical, unbalanced, unfair, not fun. Simply put.
Might be something in this "game" for the masochistic players, but definitely not for everyone.
Bayonetta is just overall fun game. the story alright and the combat is pretty good. 😁
Forever a true gaming classic. So classy and hyper, a must play for anyone with a sense of humor and a need for a rush!
Bayonetta more like Bayogreatta!
The game was released on 2009 and it's better than games these days. Of course the graphic has its limits but the animations form this game were another level. There was a some what many cut scenes that shown a lots of movement from the character and it was executed perfectly. The plot of good too, and most of all the game was fun. The game was not too serious but can be played enjoyably with some comedic methods and character interactions.
This game has a hot sexy character and wokies hate it Get over yourselves lol
10/10 music, 10/10 smooth combat can argue its slightly better than dmc, 10/10 graphics, 10/10 camera angles. My microscopic friend down there LOVES Bayo, 10/10 character design, wish there were more artistic cutscenes displaying the anatomy of the main character! :D
I do not recommend to play if you already familiar with DMC series. It's just not that good.
I find this game chaotic and very japanese in all means.
After my 4th playthrough I can say the game is really repetitive and you get no satisfaction in any fight either with strong enemy either weak one. It's just for one playthrough. It's fun then.
P.S. I got burned on 43/44 witch chest, I'm sorry it's too much. I can defeat any enemy but cannot fight my boredom forever.
Quit after playing till chapter 11. There are only 3 different mobs and 3 different bosses in the whole game and it's throwing the same thing at us constantly. Naturally, it gets really boring to beat the same boss for the 10th time.
Tbf, the gameplay is exactly like the first DMC that came out in 2001. Given that the creators of both series are the same, the man hasn't come a long way in 8 years except implementing controllable camera. It looks like a PS2 game graphically. It feels like a PS2 game while playing. The enemy variety is dull. Bayonetta herself might be "iconic" in video games. However, a sexy main character alone is not enough to justify all the things I mentioned above.
6.6/10
I enjoy the combat so much one of the games that i would not my playing over again like dmc for its combat Bayonetta also probably the only (European British) person that I actually say that I like without felling annoyed sorry not sorry. Bayo is straight queen love her character , Though I do prefer her 2 design in 2 either way my stallion
P.S I wish they port the other 2 games
I have seen clips of this game on Youtube as well as on Tiktok, I even watched the movie. It wasn't until recently when the game went on sale that I decided I wanted to give it a try. Truthfully, I don't really play these types of games as I always ended up in a mess of button mashing. However, I have made an effort to take my time and go with the flow and in doing so, this games has become one of my all time favorites. I am looking forward to continuing the story with a new found sense of enjoyment, and I am excited to become a fan of this series.
i've played this on every platform its been put on and I always seem to always come back to the bayonetta series. I really recommend to play this If you haven't already
Camera is awful
Screen tearing
gameplay feels clunky
Shame, the world, story and char seems good.
GODS do I love cracking open a can of whoop-ass and being THE femme fatale of legend.
Bayonetta 1, even after years of being available, is still tight, responsive, and charmingly fun to play.
There really isn't much to say beyond:
- The game is fun
- The gameplay is VERY tight and responsive
- The soundtrack is wonderful
- You MIGHT need a guide to find some things or to 100% this
- A controller is preferred, but keyboard and mouse still works
- If you're under 18, go play something else!
If you've got the cash to spare, spend it here! Bayonetta 1 never fails to be THE hack and slash game.
I once dated a goth girl
I really did, it really happened
Like, long, black hair
It was crazy
Put a twirly on it, but she didn't like that
I did it anyway 'cause it's cute, and she may have like- I don't know
Maybe it was not okay for me to do it, but we went to this park one time and it was supposed to me super romantic, super cute, and we sit down with on the blanket and like, eat Gatorade, whatever, it was gonna be fantastic
She put her hand to my forehead, like, just, boom
Hand on my forehead
She read my aura, and you know what the aura told her?
It was my aura was not compatible with her and it was mostly not compatible with her ex's
And, so, I was confused, I was scared, I was worried this girl's gonna like, knife me in the face?
I don't know what goth girls do
And she told me that her ex is an archangel
I don't- I don't know what an archangel is. It honestly sounds like a Magic: The Gathering card, that's all I know
And she told me that her ex is gonna kill me 'cause he didn't like my aura
Now, to this day, it's been years, that guy still might not like my aura
ця гра дала мені зрозуміти, що жінок я люблю більше ніж чоловіків, дякую
Good spectacle hack-n-slash kinda game with engaging central mechanics. Lots of fun over-the-top settings and interactions. The ranking can feel a bit overly harsh when you get a low rank even after feeling like you did fine. But if you care about that kind of thing you probably won't get low rankings to begin with.
I did not take the "over-the-top action game" description very seriously but oh boy was I wrong. Everything in this game is absurd. I love it!
You play as Bayonetta, a fashion model witch recently woken up from a long slumber, struggling to catwalk wearing guns for heels recover her memory without losing her swag or something. Her only link to her past is a mysterious, equally glamorous figure, Jeanne, who is kinda of a b**** to her. Amidst combos, Bayonetta will pause for a photograph, or do some pole-dance-like moves to summon a demon who proceeds to possess her hair (which she is in fact wearing? so she kinda gets naked when that happens?) and attack the enemy. On the downside, I am myself not a fan of long-arms-and-legs-and-tiny-head, but I can look past it.
The gameplay is challenging even on normal. It is very fast paced, combos are complex and varied. You can purchase new weapons, techniques, upgrades and accessories which act just like levels. The story is divided into 17 "chapters", each having multiple "verses". They then proceed to tease you by grading your performance in each Verse with medals and it is annoying and insulting and not good for my OCD when you get less than Platinum for a job you consider well done. There are 5 difficulties, but you need to finish 3 to unlock 4, and 4 to unlock 5 and let me tell you, you'll regret doing so.
No Linux port but worked perfectly on Steam Deck - thanks Valve! The achievements are quite difficult, having to finish the game in the max difficulty. However, it is the "fair" kind of difficult and I love it. Even after getting all achievements there will be extra challenges, hidden levels and bosses with interesting prizes and the insane challenge to get platinum trophy on all difficulties.
Honestly, this game was full of "WTF" moments and was VERY entertaining. Just in originality, this scores a perfect 10/10, definitely worthy!
2 minute TLDR:
Bayonetta looks slick, runs like clockwork and is deceptively tough all wrapped in alluring dark gothic vibe. If you played Vanquish, you'll know right away what you're in for. For fans of lightning-fast beat em ups who don't mind breaking a couple of controllers on the toughest difficulty.
There is a game-breaking bug on the 2nd mission, where you fight angels on a flying plane, and the plane crashes killing your character, and prompting a mission restart.
MOTHER! This game defined camp for me. Honestly, an icon. MUST PLAY for the culture. 80/10 because she ATE!
