DarkLast is a what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" bought the GameGuru first person shooter construction kit (no coding required, it's just a GUI!) and cobbled out a map or two using stock GameGuru assets... nothing in this game can really be called the creation of the developer, and yet they also failed to credit GameGuru or acknowlegde any of the GameGuru assets. This asset flip is so badly done it's even using the default GameGuru launch screen and "options" page... and let's be clear, GameGuru is a completely godawful construction kit. If you try to take it seriously as a game, you'll find no resolution or graphics tweaks, no controller tweaks... it's horribly optimised and will be sluggish even on high end rigs.
You can make the argument that GameGuru exists to just make demos and little experimental games to pass around with friends, but that's not what's happened here... the developer is seriously trying to scam people into paying money for this construction kit copy+paste asset flip. That's not okay!
The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 3 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
DarkLast has the laughable price of around $4 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam.
I don't like to be mean in reviews...but this isn't even a game.
You start with no intro or story of any kind, just pick up a gun and start to shoot enemies...
Are the enemies spooky monsters? no,they're just solid black dudes with guns,they're dumb and effortless to kill.
The graveyard you wander around seems to be very small,it might be a little spooky if it had music or threatening enemies,but it has neither. Just the same gates,tombstones,and tiny chapels over and over.
I stomped around for a while thinking I'd at least try to beat the game,but if it has an ending I can't find it.
I seem to have been everywhere and shot everyone...there's...just nothing...
That's it. That's literally it. Anything else you buy for this price will be better.
Developer didnt even try to make something decent.
If you purchase the game you will find yourself in a cemetery maze you will most likely find a gun and then have to shoot bad guys at no point in the game description does it tell you that its a FPS.

The trailer for this game is EXTREMELY MISLEADING!
What it doesn't depict is the true terror you will feel at facing the DEADLY SHADOW MEN! (possibly women, it's hard to tell from the silhouettes)
I shook in my boots as they appeared with their guns, blasting me from random angles. Did they emerge from the graves or were they spirit protectors emerging from a mysterious land of the dead?
I will never know, for I could not complete this title, it was simply too terrifying.

This game is not labeled FPS, it is in fact a shooter, with NO Story (story was advertised) asset snapping (same ones over and over and over) and a misleading trailer that would have you think that you are venturing into a cemetery, exploratory or Horror based. Do Not Be Fooled, this is a cash grab. Nothing more.

Darklast is one of those gloriously shite games you'll come across on steam every now and then. "Swamps and thickets is only a small part of what you will meet." And its true, you'll also meet terrible visuals and a complete lack of substance.
Lets start with these visuals. Man is this horrible to look at. The textures look like they're straight out of the year 2000 and the colour pallette would make even a goth say 'this looks fucking depressing'. It performs incredibly poorly too. I mean I don’t exactly have some NASA supercomputer here but I should be able to play this garbage. My computer sounded like running this thing was the hardest task its ever had to perform. Its got stupidly long loading times between deaths too. I guess it loads in all the map at the same time, but fuck theres less than like 10 different objects to render. Tree, gravestone, enemy, bigger gravestone, church… uhhh… bench, fence, gate… gun? Yeah that’s pretty much it. You'll notice I said gun. As in singular. Theres one gun in this first person shooter.
As you may expect the shooting is total shite. Its got that thing that all the truly terrible PC shooters have where every gun is insanely accurate but the mouse sensitivity isn't, so you're fighting over each individual pixel to line up a shot. Every enemy takes 4 or 5 shots to kill or one headshot. You'll quickly realise going for anything but headshots is a total waste of time. So it’s a case of staying back where the retarded AI cant see you and sniping them from afar. At which point the enemies crumple up into the same dumb position. If you do get up close you'll get a chance to see the glorious enemy design and melee animations. They do a far amount of damage to you though so I wouldn’t say its an easy game. The antiquated health and lives system it uses make the whole thing kinda quaint. I mean, it almost becomes endearing the more you play and try to progress. That is until you come to an impassible river. The ridiculously tiny jump your guy has means you cant make it across and you cant swim. Is there any more game past this point? Lord knows.
For £3.79 im pretty disapointed in darklast. I get that this is Vladislavs first game but dude, you cant release shit like this for actual money. You need to put more time into this thing. Theres nothing to this game, its empty. One gun, one kind of enemy and repeating assets all made in some cheap game creation tool. I really would not recommend Darklast. Sorry Vladislav, must try harder next time dude.
