Fight against famous videogame characters turned into cats and try to claim "THE CAT" as the ultimate title.
PROCEDURALLY GENERATED CONTENT
For this special occasion, more than 2000+ levels have been created by the community. Coupled with a smart world generation, every single playthrough is completely different each time you play from the levels and objects you get to the enemies you fight. Take on the challenge that keep getting harder and crazier but you can control it by adjusting the difficulty at any time.
3 GAMEMODES
Solo mode
You only get 100 lives to finish the game. Lose all of them and you will have to start from the beginning.
Fortunately, you can buy objects, skills and lives from many shops during your journey. Moreover, at the end of every playthrough, you also get to buy permanent upgrades helping you the next time you play.
What would be a tribute to these Guy fangames without its countless spikes and epic fights. All 12 bosses can't wait to slaughter you on sight so prepare yourself already for a challenging yet very rewarding adventure.
Race mode
Challenge your friends and everyone around the world to crazy fast paced races up to 8 players at once. Seeded or randomly generated with different difficulties, only one can claim the throne !
Magic Tower mode
If you manage to beat the game on hard mode, you will be able to play this key-lock puzzle-rpg oriented gamemode. Climb your way up to the top floor, defeating powerful enemies and trying to manage your resources carefully. This gamemode alone represents more than 5 hours worth of gameplay.

fun little roguelite platformer that serves as a great entry point into fangames. magic tower mode is also really fun to play through as the bosses are an enjoyable challenge to do hitless. no major complaints with the game overall.
Although the price point to content ratio is fairly steep, this game ends up delivering very well on both fronts of being a cute IWBTG fangame and serving a challenge that's welcoming to the average enthusiast of precision platformers/I Wanna Be The Guy fangames. It's definitely easier than the games it's basing itself off from, but that's what makes it inviting.
It's also absolutely entertaining to see references to bosses and characters from other IWBTG fangames, especially in 2023. It's like seeing an old friend (or perhaps an old enemy in this context).
It feels like some of the boss attacks in Magic Tower mode are 'get lucky with RNG' rather than 'get good' and the game starts getting same-y way too quick for something advertised as having 2000 chunks (don't feel like I even saw 100?) but other than that it's a great fun challenging game.
I played this like 2 months ago so I forgot some details.
If you like I wanna be the guy and/or similar type games, I'd highly recommend this game.
The game has high replay value - I played several hard/impossible runs and by the time I beat hard/impossible there were still levels I haven't seen before in new runs. And I'm sure there are more, if you care about replayability.
The achievements add replay value as well.
Also, I really liked the magic tower mode. That one is less roguelike and more platforming. There is one bad game design where basically if you die, you always end up at 1 hp for boss fights and that can quickly get hard when you are fighting end game bosses with 1 hit. It is also possible to trap yourself in magic tower because part of the mode is a bit of puzzle and going in the right direction / using the key in the right place at the right time. For the most part, honestly fairly well designed mode. You can reason your decisions out by checking to see where else you can go and also make backup saves. Tho I had to reload the entire mode a few times, but luckily that was early game. There is also some gems at the end I missed bc I used the wrong key / wrong path, so basically you can complete magic tower 2-3 times depending on how many achievements you are trying to go for.
The bosses are pretty meh except for some bosses in magic tower. The only noteworthy bosses is the last boss for hard/impossible mode, and there are several nice bosses on magic tower mode, though as the creator as also mentioned, can get a bit unfair with the RNG attacks. Usually I don't rly have an issue with "RNG" attacks, but legitimately in this game that can be an issue with some bosses late game in magic tower. It just forces you to try a few times but nothing too crazy
Overall, nice platforming game for the cost.
An extremely difficult platformer with bosses inspired by all kind of familiar games, if you're looking for a challenge and can handle not throwing your controller, it's fairly fun :)

A good commercial variant on the IWBTG fangames, with good physics, design and replayability.
However, I have two major issues with the overall concept:
1. The fixed number of lives means that if you get stuck on a hard stage, then that's the end of the game as 100 lives is nothing in the scheme of these kinds of platforms. So you have to play through another 30mins+ of easy game and really really easy bosses just to get back to the point you were stuck at, which due to randomness will probably not be the same level.
2. The difficulty ramp between stages is significant, and because of point 1, you just end up being repeatedly stuck at your skill level without enough lives given to actually improve.
So while this game is good for those with a high skill level, for me personally this has meant repeatedly getting to the third world, getting stuck on a level that's just a bit beyond my capability, and that's the end of my game. In a normal fangame, I would be able to retry that level indefinitely til I get it, and I am astonished that this 'vanilla' game mode is not included in this. Please add this, it would make the game so much more enjoyable for me.
Bruh ok im editing this review
The game is cool but holy shit 100%ing it was a pain
I maybe just got unlucky but i swear i died to deathless/low death achs like 10 times to stuff that wasnt my fault much at all
Also the final boss of magic tower genuinally doesn't feel playtested after I no-hitted it like sorry, there's a random invisible hitbox that deals damage if you're on the downward left corner when miku spawns, the first phase can wall you very often, kamilia is like 100% luck and the boss changes difficulty extremly often, it has so many free attacks and so many insane attacks it's really annoying to no-hit
So yeah, recommend the game but not 100%ing it
Forgot to review this. It's really fun and great if you're into fangames. Both singleplayer and online are really fun. Good luck trying to find an online server though, as your best option is to ask people to join on the Steam forums or the I Wanna Community Discord.
This is a superbly polished IWBTG fangame that serves both as an excellent entry-point into this style of platformers and a rewarding experience for the more experienced IWBTG plaers. It also has online co-op if you'd like to race your buddies.
Highly recommended.
For anyone looking to get into fangames or anyone just looking for a fun platforming experience you should purchase this game, because the difficulty of the levels and the bosses scales up very well as well as having very tight controls. The level design is fun and clever. The only thing I wish for is that there were more worlds. There's a lot of charm and love put into this project by the community that loves the tight platforming games that this game is based off of.
Not as good as reviewers make it out to be, note that a lot of the reviewers are into the fangame community. Levels are repetitive, procedural generation does not really change much. Bosses and platforming are nothing special. For the price tag, I'd suggest you wait for a sale or get sth. else.
I Wanna be the Cat is a wonderful game oozing with charm. The game offers a huge amount of variety with the vast amount of rooms, all catering to different difficulties to ensure every player has something they can have fun with, and the promise of future updates with more levels and gamemodes only makes this more exciting.
The single player is a very enjoyable roguelike platforming adventure with whimsical bosses and tricky challenges, always keeping to a high standard of design and polish. A lot of care has been put into the graphics, making the world feel very warm and vibrant, and the added challenges make for many hours of fun with the single-player mode alone.
Where the game hits a real stride is the race mode, allowing up to 8 players to race been a series of maps that are procedurally generated into one another, making for a very comfortable flow whilst you're battling it out with your friends or new opponents. I'd like to see the room-search updated a little as the current state only shows rooms that aren't mid-game, making it tricky to hop into a lobby if you don't even know they exist. Regardless, racing brings a new side to I Wanna be the Guy fangames that hasn't been touched on before, and it's a great deal of fun.
If you're looking for a charming and challenging platformer with a great deal of passion put into it, you'll be right at home with this one.
So I played this game already almost 20 hours and got 12/25 achievements. Here are my thoughts:
At the moment this game consists of two different modes: 100 lives singleplayer and online racing.
First the singleplayer:
Based on the sentence: 'A cat has nine lives' Nemega added 91 and lets you beat a randomly chosen set of levels in multiple worlds.
Between the levels you can find chests and shops with items which you can buy with ingame currency. Also at a certain point in the world and at the end there are bosses. They are funny parodies of bosses which are popular in the I wanna be the guy fanbase.
There are three difficulties to choose from: Medium, Hard and Impossible.
Medium is the perfect difficulty for beginners. Hard and impossible have harder bosses with added phases and overall more challenging levels.
If you lose all your lives in a run you can buy perks with coins for the following rounds. These consist of useful items, added lives and many more.
Now on to the online racing:
In this mode you can create your own room or join one to play a randomly chosen set of levels in a race. Up to eight players can try to reach the goal first. Even if you don't have any players to race against, you can play it alone and train your movement.
This mode also consists of three difficulties: Easy, Medium and Hard. In each one you need to beat a different amount of levels to finish the race.
I really need to say that this mode is addicting. I think I played this mode four hours straight with a full lobby of people.
Even if this game has still a few bugs, Nemega is trying his best to make this game as enjoyable as possible. He already released three patches, so I don't think this will be a problem.
Overall if you enjoy jump 'n' runs or speedruns and if you are up for a challenge, try it out. I never saw a game like this before and I really enjoy it. You could say this game has endless content with the randomized levels and there will also be a new mode added in the future. This game is worth the price.
I wanna be the Cat brings the fun of the tight IWBTG fangame physics to an extremely polished and fun game. Each of the many levels is up to quality. The graphics, music, and sound are all great too. Also of note, you don't need to be a skilled platformer player to enjoy this game! Would highly recommend!
As the name implies, this is a hardcore platformer heavily inspired by I Wanna Be The Guy-based fangames. If you've heard of I Wanna Be The Guy before, you may know it's a mostly unfair trial-and-error based platformer focusing on comedic traps. Despite the mechanics and controls in this game being inspired by it, it's a very different experience. Rather than traps, this game wants you to methodically approach rooms, looking at what's going on before jumping in, since you have a limited number of lives. If you can handle difficult games, I'd recommend it - singleplayer alone is a great time, multiplayer races are chaotic and a ton of fun, and the developer has promised to add more stuff after launch. Given his previous game got a ton of updates after launch adding more content and fixes, and this game has already gotten two important patches very quickly, I have no doubt this'll be true here as well.
I am absolutely loving this. The rogue-lite elements are implemented very well and bring the game to a whole new level and the sheer number of levels in this makes this a platformers dream.
There are three difficulty levels, each one caters to different skillsets close to perfection. I could definitely see someone who is brand new to platformers pick this up and enjoying the lower difficulty, and highly experienced players having a blast with the higher difficulties aswell.
At first I was a bit sad to see that the bosses just die in 5 seconds flat, you don't really get to see what they even do. However, I was very pleased to see that the game incorporates boss scaling. The scaling is dependant on how far you are in the game, aswell as which difficulty you are playing. The bosses gain more HP, attacks get more complex and even additional phases with new attacks with the scaling.
I really have to mention the online racing aspect of the game. It's super chaotic, hectic and way more fun than you would expect. Me and a couple of friends went and tried this yesterday, and we just couldn't stop playing. We played for 4 and a half hours straight before I finally stopped because I was too tired (I actually wanted to keep playing haha). You've gotta try the racing if you play this!
Everything mentioned combined with the low asking price makes this an absolute must play for anyone who likes platformers, I'm really enjoying my time with this!
Are you a fan of "I wanna" games? Are you a fan of roguelike games? If you said "yes" on either of those questions, you must try this game.
The game has 2000+ levels which get picked at random - each playthrough is different.
You're actually allowed to take damage on bosses, which is super rare in "I wanna" games.
You can buy permanent upgrades, making each subsequent playthrough easier.
And it has 3 difficulty options, with the easiest option being just the right difficulty for everyone to enjoy.
This is one of the best "I Wannas" I ever played, and one of the best roguelikes, too! I absolutely recommend it.
Tried it out, raged a little bit and murdered few cat things. A good and fun IWBTG fangame finally out somewhere where everyone can see it!
And I will also make sure to fully finish this.
Graphics are simple and good. Level design is spot on with possible skips by using the items often available. Bosses are just a lot of fun if a bit too easy. Music is good!
If you're a gaming masochist and wont mind dying a lot, this game is for you!
A difficult but fun platformer with rogue-like elements.
Pros:
-Challenging platforming
-A sense of progression and accomplishment
-Multiplayer
-Entertaining boss fights with different mechanics
-A HUGE variety of levels
-An obvious amount of love was put into the development of this game
-Controller support
Cons:
-Challenging Platforming
-Occasional framerate drops on high quality (on release, might be patched)
I love these types of games and have been following the developer for a while waiting for this game to come out and I am not disappointed. With multiple difficulty settings its great for those who are new to the genre and veterans alike. All the references in the bosses are very well thought out and executed nicely while also matching the atmosphere of the game flawlessly. The platforming can be difficult but its rewarding enough to want to keep pushing through to get coins for more powerups or just to see how far you can make it this time.
There is also a multiplayer mode where you can race against your friends or complete strangers to see who is the ultimate cat! The levels flow nicely together so that in a race if something goes wrong you know its your own fault rather than the games.
You can tell how much love and care was put into this game and I can recommend it to almost anyone.
This game is a rogue-like platformer inspired by I Wanna be the Guy and its many fangames. With tight controls, interesting levels, great visuals and a good soundtrack, this game is charming and is a must for any platformer lovers, even if you aren't too skilled in them, as there are multiple difficulty options. The game has tons of replayability even in just singleplayer, not even counting the online race mode the game features, which is also a lot of fun. The fact that the dev plans to keep adding more and more content for free is also a nice plus.
