the gameplay itself is very good, but the main story is too short. it seems like after the Lady Luna incident you can't do open-world anymore. without a side story, you can complete the game in a short time. Why so rush to release the game? It's such a waste a good material like this game.
Even though it’s clearly an unfinished game, I can’t deny how rich and emotional the story is. The bond between the four main characters and the bittersweet love between Noctis and Luna really left an impression on me. I know it’s probably wishful thinking, but I can’t help hoping for a remake someday.
Originally purchased this game on PS4 and had a great time playing this game. But found the game to be more buggy on PC when comparing the two my PC would crash running this game which I found extremely considering my set up is beyond solid to run this game maxed out. I do love the added features to the game compared to initial release and its is a great introduction to a series that's been around since I was younger.
A beautiful, Half finished dream that deserved so much better than what it got. If you want the true conclusion, read the novels. Square Enix decided to screw us over and not give us the ending we deserved in game form, but in book form instead.
Amazing game, i played it and all of the dlcs and its worth it, im not a FF fan and ive only played this one and the remake of the 7th and this is the only ive completed and its a great game i can 100% recommend this game
This is the most best exploration and combat game you'll need to play, because if you have Nintendo WII U or Switch and started playing Xenoblade Chronicles series then you all have the idea of seeing the landscapes and picture takings; one more thing I'm a big fan of Final Fantasy because I clearly understand a lot of both Science-fiction & Fantasy.
I put off playing this game for years, Initially because I didnt like the aesthetic, then when i finally caved I didnt really like the gameplay loop it felt like an offline mmo, then when i finally tried it a 3rd time and got over it the game crashed and ran like shit. In 2024 with a very solid PC (7800x3d//4070tisuper) I finally played through to completion. The pacing has its flaws, half of the interesting story beats are not in the game or in a dlc and its not fully realized they didnt have long enough to cook. DESPITE ALL THAT I still highly recommend this game is a special experience that I dont think will really be replicated again by square enix or anyone else goin forward, its just good if your still on the fence give it a shot its worth it. Heres to hoping in 2034 theres a ffxv complete edition with the dlc's moved into the natural flow of the game and all the cut content realized it deserves it.
One of the best adventure type games out there. The visuals are stunningly beautifull. The story is way beyond awesome. The boss battles are super amazing. I recommend this game 100%. 9/10 from me.
This game surprised me. I took a long time to buy it because of the modern-y aesthetic and unusual presentation but immediately changed my mind once I started playing. Give it a chance if you've played the past games, don't skip the road trips early on and just enjoy your time while just stopping around to explore. The game does have an amazing story as well with outstanding delivery and ending that's on par with older games such as FFVI and FFVII. The characters will really grow on you if you play it slow and try to enjoy it as the friendship story it is. Finally, there's plenty of endgame content and the game will linger on with you long after everything is done. This is the closest FF got to fully immersing me in the same way as pre FFX times.
Story wise, it was too short. Game is filled with side quests, where they just tell you to do these stupid errands for 90% of the game, the open world is beautiful but really lifeless and bland. The story feels a little lacking but the dlcs do a decent job at fleshing out the main cast. It's a beautifully flawed game. One of my favorite entries in the franchise.
I fell in love with this game playing on XBOX and I fell in love again when I downloaded it for windows - only downside is my computer is not a gaming computer so it does glitch out fairly often but overall a great game, I love how many more features the windows version has over the XBOX version!
Honestly, The game was really good. Some flaws in the story-line, but the world is absolutely stunning. The only problem with the story was that the ending was super touching and captivating. But why couldn't the rest of the story be like that? The combat was really solid, I did slightly get bored of combat later in the game, but the royal sigil made me enjoy the combat again.
Game is good even in 2024 comrades have way better combat system but its short and pretty much dead
Felt way too short story wise, most of my play time I was doing side quests. Then thinking I could unlock better stuff to buy at the shop I would do more story, then not much longer was on the last chapter and game was over. Combat was ok, but never felt like anyone really did much damage. Seemed I was 10-20 levels over some enemies and barely did anything to them and they took me out in 2 hits. Wouldn't be happy paying full price, but for around 10$ I bought it for it wasn't too bad.
A very weak combat system is outplayed by a strong story of responsibility and brotherly love.
Played through the game and all of the short DLC missions. It took me a bit to get into the game and the very poor combat almost made me quit part way through. The combat feels very clunky and unfinished. Noctis never goes where you want, never dodges when you think he should and does very little damage. It feels like every enemy is a massive damage sponge that takes forever to take down. Easy mode doesn't change damage levels but instead auto revives you when you die. There are different types of weapons to use but they don't really help you in one way or another, so you just stick to one anyway. Running away and warp striking back is the best way to do damage but that isn't very fun. Link strikes are confusing and blindstrikes never seem to activate correctly.
Movement is a bit clunky. Noctis ALWAYS FUCKING JUMPS when you hit 'A' instead of picking up something on the ground. Controls are a bit weird as well. I played with the third scheme and it was strange. Holding both bumpers the whole game just didn't feel good.
Graphics are alright. Nothing crazy but it's been out for quite a while now so it was perfectly fine. Frame rates were ok. Not as good as I was hoping but SE isn't known for it's performant ports.
The story is really really strong. It was worth playing through for it. You kind of grow along with the characters. No details here to prevent spoilers but I really loved it.
I doubt this game is very pricy most of the time so I'd pick up and play if you are interested.
Story, characters, fights are perfect but standing above them all is adventure about 4 good friends that are more like brothers their story is shinning the most. Its enjoyable even more if you watched Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV movie and Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV short anime that are rounding up and adding more to the story before the events of the game. Try it for yourself and enjoy the ride but don't forget to always fill up Regalia's fuel ;)
Greatest FF story, bad storytelling. The storytelling is scattered within game and the never mentioned: Movie, Anime, Comic, 2D Platformer
I really like this game, I've played it on my PS4, back when I had one. The graphocs are beautiful and the game is fun. It definitely feels different than other FF games I've played, which might be why so many people I've talked to about the game in person don't like it, but I personally like that it's a bit different. The road trip feel is fun. The fishing mechanic is fun. And I kinda like the combat system.
Eventually I'll finish replaying the game. I swear.
Once you get the hang of the controls and gameplay its a very relaxing and laid back RPG out of most games I played I really feel like this game embodies the saying of "It's about the journey and not the destination" very unique open world RPG experience!
whew...finally finish this game after more than 10 years of its original release. i must say, half part of the story really turned the game experience upside down. from a random worldmap roaming, side quests, grinding, lots and lots of hikes, into a mindblowing story and plot twists. as expected of final fantasy storyline. I really wish some part is different tho. but i guess good ending will not always be the best ending. goodbye Luna, Aranea, Cindy, Noct, Gladio, Ignis, Pronto, and Cor. Look forward to play Final Fantasy XVI next. I dont think i'll ever revisit World of Eos again....
It's kinda weird because the story feels week but the characters are fantastic and the gameplay is top tier. The issue is there are chunks of the story that aren't in the game. There's some videos on YouTube that help flesh out the main party. There's a not great but very pretty movie that helps explain a major plot point. There's a prequel game and the DLCs. All these thing make the main story fragmented so it feels like you're just fing around with your boys wrecking anything in your way and it's fantastic. I'm on my second play through and I got to chapter 4 and realized I was already level 40. There are 15 chapters and the last quest in chapter 14 has a recommended level of 45. I leveled past most of the content because the game is just too damned fun.
While it may not be a flawless masterpiece, Final Fantasy XV still stands as one of my favorite JRPGs. The music, the landscapes, and especially the characters are fantastic. The bond between the main group feels real, bringing the entire experience to life. It’s like joining a road trip with your closest friends,by the time you reach the end, you can’t help but feel emotional. I won’t lie I cried like a baby. This game has so much heart, and the journey was amazing.
600 hours of driving around, fishing, camping and chilling with the boys. I had a great time playing this game. Would do it again.
I've only been playing for two hours when I knew this was going to be one of my most favourite comfort games ever. And after 122 hours, I still haven't gotten bored of it and wish it would never end! Damn, this is such a beautiful gem.
FFXV is all about the journey and the memories you make along the way. A prince and his three best friends go on a road trip – which, of course, is not a real road trip: you’ve lost your home/kingdom, the prince is the Chosen One with a prophecy to save the world, enemy forces are chasing you and trying to take you down every two minutes, and demons rise at night – but while everything is a mess around you, you learn to appreciate and enjoy the small things. Exploring beautiful new places, eating good food, camping with your bros or staying in cheap motels, taking pictures together, driving the car while the sun is going down, going on monster hunts to help people, having a good laugh, and just enjoying the freedom and companionship.
I'd recommend this to everybody who likes action-RPG games which focuses on interactions and relationships between characters, because that's the essence of FFXV: the brotherhood and friendship theme. Noct and his friends really care for and support each other in a healthy and wholesome way that feels realistic - at the end, it feels like they are your own friends, they will grow on you so much.
You will also enjoy this game if you love to explore an open world, do side quests while listening to beautiful atmospheric music in the background, and casually kill monsters. If you like teamwork-based combat (no turn-based!) and would like to experience how fun it is to switch between characters in live combat. This is also for you if you like your heart being wrenched by angst but also love to have a good laugh at the smallest things. If you love to take your time and get immersed in a beautiful story.
This is NOT for you if you are impatient, don’t care about character bonding, and just want to fight or rush through a big epic story as fast as possible. Nope. This is the type of game where the journey is the best and most rewarding part. It's magical and comforting. A safe place.
Try it out and have the best time with the chocobros. And then start again, and again, and again. ;)
And from the DLCs, Episode Ignis is highly recommended!!! Don't miss it. :)) Or the 'Friendly Match' in that DLC, haha. (Which is like the best boss fight in the whole game, even though you are just fighting your best friend over eating his vegetables with a dramatic opera music in the background.)
This is my favorite Final Fantasy game, besides Dissidia 012 duodecim, and I like some of the mods I could get for this game. I still wish the cancelled DLCs for this game weren't cancelled, but this whole game is still really fun overall for me. And it's a good game to introduce to someone who doesn't like turn-based combat.
A roller coaster of thoughts
I was worried by the "open world" since recent games I've played had been very bland and padded like Spider-man and horizon, thankfully besides some fast-travel awkwardness the game is quite focus and open areas are mostly window dressing, if you want, there is some extra stuff to do, but not necessary. (To me all this paragraph is a plus for the game BTW)
The combat took me more than a while to get, a weird hybrid of action and some semblance of a JRPG that if you don't grasp quick might led you to a weird rhythm in battle. Not the biggest fan, but it worked out in the end.
The production values and plot is where it shines, after certain key points I was hooked and the game flowed quite fast, the shorter mainline FF if you only stick to the main plot.
This game was a bit of a wild ride. I thoroughly enjoyed the beginning of the game. The story was engaging and intriguing. The game did a great job of drawing me in and getting me interested in the world and characters. The combat took me a bit to get used to but once I got the hang of it I began to really enjoy it. Shortly into the game you get to the main open world area which is where the bulk of the game takes place. The open world parts were mostly fun but the side quests certainly began to drag on. I really wish there were less fetch style quests. Because of how the open world areas drug the game out I lost interest in the game and took a hiatus from it and came back a year later determined to finish it. From about Chapters 8 to 13 of the main story, I began to get really frustrated with the story. The game presents the story in a very disjointed fashion. Lots of events happen off screen and characters develop and change allegiance seemingly without explanation. The developers had this grand idea to tell the missing parts of the game's story in various movies, TV shows, and DLC playable campaigns that fill in all the gaps. This method of telling a story was EXTREMELY annoying to me. On top of the annoying story delivery, some of those chapters included "playable" parts where you had to walk or run for long distances for no real reason. It felt like filler. It almost made me want to quit playing again, but I toughed it out. And boy am I glad I did. This game had one of the most epic, most fun, best written, and best presented endings to a game I've ever seen. It was dramatic, engaging, interesting, fun, and I even got a little emotional at the end. They really finally got me to care about all the characters. I wish this whole thing could be turned into a chronological coherent movie that I could re-watch because the story is (when seen in order) so good, and the ending was even better. The final scenes were special, and I'll remember them a long time. There's even a little change to the title screen at the end of the game that, for me at least, was a meaningful and special final touch.
If you choose to play Final Fantasy XV I would recommend trying to do the campaign quests as soon as your level allows it so that you can spend as much time as possible doing side quests in the open world area in the post game with the Regalia Type-F at your disposal. This is a flying car and it makes traversing the world much easier, faster, and very enjoyable. Also be prepared to follow some guide to take appropriate breaks at the right times to play or watch the related missing story elements so that things makes sense.
My recommendation overall is to tough it out and finish this game. It is worth it. It is going down as one of my favorite game stories, although they definitely could have delivered it better, and I'm so glad I played it.
Ran a bit like shit and I didn't click with the combat system...
But it isn't a Creative Assembly game, so it's 10/10.
The game starts out pretty strong and gets notably worse once it becomes linear at the midway point of the game. The characters, world, graphics, and audio quality still hold up very well, the story is whatever though.
7/10
Honestly one of the best FF games I've played other than 9. It's a huge bummer many of the DLCs were cancelled and the PC port is slightly buggy. It's very playable, but occasionally drops frames really bad.
Amazing game. The Characters are so good and fleshed out it makes me happy, angry, and sad when the characters are experiencing those emotions. Oh, so good. Story line to die for.
Least fun FF game I've ever played.
Here's why:
- Combat is mediocre at best
- Camera is absolutely whack, I find myself battling camera angles and positioning more than actual fighting. The camera gets jammed, stuck, and wildly pans erratically whichever which way and never in an area you actually want the camera to be in. Too often the camera is on the ground looking up my character's backside and I can't see battle in any meaningful way.
- 3/4 of the game is fun... then it's like the game developers ran out of good ideas on how to end the game and tossed in new game mechanics and other character controls to try and spice up the boring end boss battles. You spend the whole game as playing Noctis and then for the last battles, you get thrown into your teammates bodies and have no choice to switch back. This should of been implemented from the beginning, so that I could properly master the new game mechanics for the most difficult battles in the game... Super rage frustration. @#$% Square Enix.
- the car... why? You can't fully control it to go places. It should've been a train because that's exactly how it plays, on rails and can only control start and stop.
- the warp system is goofy, lol. You can warp to the car or your last rest spot, but only at night. Once in the car, you can only warp again to some cities or parking areas. The car system is a convoluted mess. Luckily the car gets whacked later in the game and you don't have to deal with it anymore, lol.
I absolutely hate quitting on games that I spent 30+ hours on, but with so many issues and camera problems, it's just not fun anymore. The growing frustration kept me thinking that I want the game done and over with to hurry up to uninstall it for something better in my library.
On to FF16...
Rough but there is still a lot of heart to it. Playing the companion stories inline with the story progression , instead of waiting until the end, will help a lot with the plot holes.
the End End game is so good
FFXV's story have the potential to surpass FF7 or on par BUT F it up so bad.
Where is Dawn of the Future the last 3 DLC story not completed man and 15 deserved a Remake someday not 13.
So, it's not my favorite final fantasy, but as a fan of every title, I can say that it's still Final Fantasy.
I hated the characters. All of them. In fact the best character was Sara from Terra Wars. I hated the antagonist. Not even a believable back story. I didn't like the way you traveled, or the food corn. Nope. In fact every aspect of this game was just bad except one. The combat. The combat, and enemies, were fun. Super fun. And that's what sells in the game for me. I recommend.
Fun game, very underrated as a Final Fantasy game, only thing is it feels like it's missing parts of the story that was potentially rushed a little bit, but overall a very good experience, easy to get 40+ hours out of.
Runs quite well and looks pretty on the Steam Deck oled (30FPS cap on High; 45FPS cp on Low is much smoother in combat, however aliasing is quite painful).
Very enjoyable beginning with a scenic open world. Unfortunately the entire story is then held up by duct tape. There was a huge genuine attempt to fix things up using DLCs and cross media however, so you have to respect the intent. The last three planned DLCs that ended up as a book would have improved things a lot, esp if everything got integrated into the base game as a remaster (usually they remake the graphics, but for this one you really have to remake the story instead).
Overall recommended esp on sale.
Very good story! The four's closeness kept me engaged nonstop until I finished. The game play and graphics were amazing.
Final Fantasy XV is an incredible game that captivates from the very first moments. The open world is stunning, and the deep storyline makes it a true masterpiece. The characters are exceptionally interesting and well-developed, and their friendships and adventures evoke genuine emotions.
The combat system is dynamic and intuitive, allowing players to feel fully engaged in epic battles. Exploring the world is filled with countless intriguing quests and secrets, encouraging you to return time and again.
Overall, Final Fantasy XV isn’t just a game; it’s a whole world you want to dive into. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves adventure, emotional storytelling, and beautiful graphics!
Replaying this on PC after platinuming the game on PS4. Really enjoyed the story despite some rougher edges and found the combat to be really fun. Definitely worth picking up when on sale.
I was the D1 player of this game. I have hundreds of hours of game play on my PS4 and decided to replay the game on PC due to nostalgia. So I've been experiencing the game's good and bad sides, from the buggy D1 release to the fun Moogle Chocobo Carnival. So I must say, despite the flaws, FFXV is truly beautiful. I really like adventuring in the world of Eos with the Chocobros. It feels like I'm involved in their road trip adventure. By the end of the story, I feel emotionally attached to the characters. FFXV is probably the coziest FF main title I've played, truly a FF for first-timers and fans.
the story don't explain much I had to look up a ending explain to understand the ending but it was a fun time traveling with friend main character kinda of a jerk but hey sad moments story moves game play fun 9/10
With its messy story, underdeveloped side characters, & repetitive side quests, this isn’t perfect…but I still loved it. Going on a road trip, monster hunting, & exploring never got old, & I grew very attached to the incredible core cast.
Major feels and badassery.
love it.
This was my very first entry into the final fantasy franchise and after 61 hours (and counting), I'm very very impressed. Jumping into this franchise always seemed like such a daunting task, but i'm glad i finally gave final fantasy a shot and I wish i did so a long time ago. Let’s start with what falls short for me then move onto what was very good.
Let’s start with the story. I can sit here and tell you all about the story of final fantasy 16, but the issue is their kind of is no story. Not in the game anyway. Apparently, most of the important details were skipped from being put into the game and were instead sidelined for other media surrounding the game like a movie and other separate games. What a bizarre way of telling a story. If the related media to the story you’re telling is not in the game that the story is occurring in, it’s a shit game narratively speaking. One of my biggest pet peeves in gaming is when the game expects you to go out of your way to research information outside of the game to understand what’s going on. Having to exit the game and google something or watch something outside of it is so annoying and completely breaks all immersion for me. If the content related to the game is not in the actual game, it is not part of the game. I shouldn’t have to watch a 2-hour movie or read a 6 pages Wikipedia article to understand why the main character has a bunch of gods helping him wipe out enemies. I bought a video game, emphasis on the video and game in that title. I expect the entire package within the product I have bought, including a fully developed narrative.
Anyways, because of the bizarrely lackluster decision to split telling the story into multiple separate mediums, the game’s narrative ends up having a million plot holes, with what feels like random events happening with literally no meaning or reason. Nothing is bothered to be explained, most characters aren’t even developed properly, and I found myself more confused then interested in most of the story. How am I supposed to be interested when I don’t even know what the hell is going on or who anyone is? It feels like they randomly introduce characters out of nowhere without telling us who they even are, just for them to disappear and never appear again in the story. Pick a random show you have not watched and begin watching it from the middle of a random season. That’s exactly what experiencing this game’s story feels like. You don’t know what’s going on the whole time, yet the game treats it as if you do. Luckily, all the other elements of this game are polished enough that it didn’t matter. In all fairness, aside from what I just complained about, the plot was serviceable enough to carry the gameplay along and none of it ruined the experience thankfully. I seriously recommend you turn the audio into Japanese though. I couldn’t stand English dubbed version for more than 30 minutes without needing to wear a hazmat suit to protect myself from the cringe. Seriously, it’s dangerously cringe I don’t know how people can handle it.
The gameplay, the open world map, the world building, the side quests, the bosses, the RPG system, the items, the combat, the graphics, the small details. These are what truly ascended this game into God-like for me. Everything surrounding the gameplay feels like was polish extremely carefully to perfection. I am a huge sucker for world building, that’s why I think game of thrones is the best show that’s ever been created, and this game has a ton of it. It’s done through gameplay, through random expository dialogue as your exploring, through (mostly) meaningful side quests, and through subtle map design. I am fucking love subtlety, and while this game is mostly annoyingly on the nose when it comes to the plot, it really takes it’s time in its implications elsewhere. The monster is always a blast, with a variety of enemies you’ll encounter across the map as well as through hunt quests. Each enemy has unique fighting styles, design and weakness, making fighting each a fresh experience every time as you need to adapt your fighting style constantly. The dungeons are always a ton of fun (although sometimes annoying but feels good to solve). I do wish that killing bosses was more rewarding, like dropping good items or something. Speaking of items, there’s a wide range of weapons with different styles and animations, so it’ll take a long time to get bored and when you do, the combat system really keeps it fresh. The magic spells are so satisfying to use especially when you wipe out a bunch of monsters in one big AOE blast. Mix that with the amiger ability and you’ll never get bored. The combat really is fluid and has so many different aspects to it like magic, many different weapons, the amiger chain, calling upon the gods assistance, teamwork abilities and so much more. The combat really is just so good and it’s the tiny details that turns this game into an incredible experience for me.
8/10
I love this Game! I played it on Xbox when it was new. It's an excellent action/adventure RPG. I do and don't get the hate. I love the combat, a hybrid of active and turn-based. Graphics hold up nearly 10 years after its initial release. I even enjoy the story. One drawback is the banter loop; it gets annoying; "TURN THE ROD TOWARD THE FISH" *immediately after hooking said fish.
Grab it at a discount of $10; it's well worth it. You can easily sink a couple hundred hours into this.
The story is good, the characters are fine, and the visuals hold up pretty good even 10 years after the initial release on PS4. If you ignore open world activities (they are super boring and doing them feels like playing a bad MMO), the game is actually fun as a single player linear experience. Except for the ending: the whole chapter 13 is endless corridors, and chapter 14 is mostly boss fights, and they are not great because thye bosses have too much HP (like in all FF games, basically), but otherwise are easy to defeat.
And not just the boss fights, combat gameplay in general is lacking, even for a JRPG. From countless generic encounters to prolonged (10-15 mins) boss fights, it all feels very samey, and aside from the visual presentation, quickly becomes too boring. Besides, you have enough money to buy dozens of healing and revive potions, so even when a boss oneshots your dumb AI-companions, you can easily move on.
Speaking of companions, the dialogues and voice overs are good, and by the end of the game you really become attached to all the characters. Thankfully, there's an additional episode centered around each of the companions, and while they are rather short (1-1.5 hrs each), they do offer new gameplay mechanics and locations. But for some reason the best DLC is sold separately from the main game which is supposed to be a full edition.
Anyway, FF XV is totally worth buying on a sale just for the story and the characters. But don't expect great gameplay or open world exploration: these aspects are rather basic. Thankfully, you don't have to grind side quests to enjoy the story: your characters receive enough experience from the main quests to stay strong until the very end.
A game thats so long you prolly won't compleet it, its a great game and the first of the ff games i played.
After having played remake and rebirth, I wanted to give this game a try and surprisingly, I didn't regret it at all. It's just that I feel that the story is incomplete. I heard about the devs cancelling versus and the second wave of dlc and I was disappointed. This game really had so much potential to be the best final fantasy game but kudos to the devs who created this game. It was really a thrilling journey!
one of the best final fantasy experiences ive had; very memorable characters and gorgeous scenery. I thought the car would be a chore but ended up being one of my favourite parts; made going for 100% a breeze!
the DLC's were fantastic and an essential part of the story if you ask me... other than Comrades... that DLC made me almost give up going for all achievements considering its a dead multiplayer game with very grindy mechanics; Comrades took around 30 hours for all achievements. other episodes are short and sweet.
