⭐️ Terrible
Game physics are out of sync.
Fighting is delayed when attacking.
Certain points in the game have terrible geometry.
Zombie pathing is like sandpaper.
I'm not going to go on with this...
STAY AWAY!
Frustrating...
6 of 5 must play.
5 of 5 great story great game-play.
4 of 5 great story average game-play.
3 of 5 average story great game-play.
2 of 5 play only if it's your favourite genre.
1 of 5 play if you have nothing better to do.
0 of 5 play if you're a masochist.
-1 of 5 avoid.
Tunnels of Despair score is 0 of 5.
A very cheaply put together Amnesia clone. Nothing to really grab your attention, no reason to hide or sneak and I hope you're happy to play it through in one go without a save function.
To be avoided.
you wake up in a zombie infested metro and try to find a way out.
puzzles, exploration, slight survival elements.
This game is not that bad.
Actually it is mainly a survival game, with objectives you have to complete in order to escape some metro tunnels infested with zombies and other nasties. You have a hunger meter and a health meter but forget about fighting enemies because they kill you in a few hits.
Beware though : This game does not hold your hand. Some people might get frustrated, the tunnel system is pretty big and some items seem to spawn in random places. Also, you have to collect all notes for some reason(so it becomes a real hunt for something as stupid as notes).
It's not my cup of tea... But people with more patience could like this game.
I hope it's not just me but, this game gives me the creeps. I couldn't play anymore after I realized the zombies follow you everywhere, or whatever they are.
A decent game it must be said. There's a good 4-5 hours of gameplay here as you piece together what you need to do to escape. As you explore there's batteries/gears/passwords that must be collected for respective generators to power up/doors to unlock/computer to login to, which helps unlock more of the area. There's no real combat in the game. There's 3 types of enemy: a harmless shambling zombie who is easily maneuvered around, and a handful of speedy zombies which provide the main threat. And then a third surprise monster which I will not spoil as it appears at the very end. The only time you'll swing your crowbar is if a shambling zombie is blocking a stairwell.
The game curtails your ability to save and introduces a hunger/thirst meter which ensures you keep moving constantly and really helps build that sense of tension. As you go round the sizable sprawling level you'll find food and water sources to keep you going. While initially the game is slightly creepy and scary this wanes as the game goes on and repetition sets in. However that tension that is built in keeps you invested and determined to puzzle out how to escape. Recommended to tide a solid evening.
a quite adequate survival game for this low price! still... it has it's own serious problems :D not a suprise it has mixed reviews :)
for a start: it's not really a horror game, because after about 10 minutes you will forget everything about creepy darkness, zombies, flashlight, stealth etc. and instead you will run constantly from - no, not zombies, monsters or ghosts... but hunger. in short, that's all the game is about. unless you find the gas mask first (you won't) as it helps a lot with hunger you know... well, you will understand :D
my main gameplay issues:
1) the game is short, so it was made random! i mean, your success is totally random... every critical item can spawn in a random place... so you will run through all the halls and rooms like crazy to find everything you need before you die of hunger. it's pure luck it seems.
2) you can't finish the game, if you miss any of the notes. you must gather ALL of them but actually you wouldn't need any (or one) to escape. again, the game is short, so you better love notes. kinda stupid if you ask me, but...
3) imho the hunger system is what really kills this game's fun... slowly (or fastly, depends on your luck) you will get hungry so you are forced to progress, yeah yeah i get it. so, if the "hunger-fog" comes, you must either have a gas mask ready or get in the safe room with the bed fast or have a sh*tload of food with you. easy? nooope. the gas mask can be found only later in the game, sleeping increases hunger by a lot, and there aren't enough food around anyway. so what you actually need is: the gas mask, and fast. oh did i say it's random?
4) and finally, the stealth part... it could be some much fun to sneak around in these halls... but it's ruined completly by the hunger too =( trying to sneak around is almost pointless and a huge waste of time in this game. you really shouldn't do that... and what about the zombies attracted by your flashlight? oh forget about them, just keep it on. the batteries are forever...
yeah... so as i said, it has issues. but it's fairly cheap, has quite nice graphics, and a good ominous atmosphere... maybe it only needs some tweaks here and there to support other kind if gameplay stlyes and it would be much better...
(Appears to be abandoned game - last update was February of 2019.)
Normal mode gameplay is pretty straightforward - explore and find items to escape the subway while avoiding the monsters lurking. Initially the atmosphere of this game was good - dark, creepy with the feeling of apprehension. The map is sizable and interesting. But hours into the game it had turned into TEDIUM.
The map is large (and dark) enough that gathering items and returning to the proper spot to use them (while avoiding aforementioned monsters) becomes a time-consuming chore, effectively negating any atmosphere that existed.
The shambling zombies are easy enough to avoid while freely moving around, but it requires care and stealth to avoid the faster-moving monsters who appear later as you progress. And forget about safely and reliably killing the monsters - the only weapon I found was a melee weapon that invariably resulted in taking damage from the monster. With very limited health kits available it's thus unwise to attempt combat. It seemed that the more items I gathered the more I encountered the more dangerous monsters.
The simplistic food/drink survival aspect adds little to the game, other than giving you something else to scrounge for, and maybe force you to not dawdle too much as your food/water state continuously drops.
Finally it includes a limited access save system; you get a single save point and can only save at certain places on the map and regain health when you sleep (while expending food/water). Thus the save system has a disincentive for use if you're healthy and well fed because you'll end up in worse condition after a save!
Disappointed - interesting map and environment with so much potential but some bad design choices (primarily the save system) made me quit playing.
Survival game where you have to explore some metro tunnels and have to find a way to escape while avoiding or fighting zombies.
This game is really frustrating. I will tell you why
-The map is huge and very maze like, also a lot of the areas are looking the same.
-You have to find a lot of items, the locations are always random, this sucks. Also there are some items, which you can just find once but there are two spots on the map to use them, which means you can't fully open all doors. (But you can still get to every location. Still this is stupid.)
-There are two different ways to escape but before you can do that, besides finding some items, you have to find all 9 notes, which again have random locations. This is so stupid. I beat the game twice (needed 3 runs), on my third run, after some time I found all items to escape but haven't found all notes. So I searched almost the whole map again for one last note. This wouldn't be a problem, if the map wouldn't be so big and the locations would be more obvious.
Please developers: collectibles like notes are great, but make them optional, not mandatory.
-The only survival aspect is the hunger. I have to say I don't like survial games and I didn't like the hunger system here. The system is just that you have a hunger bar which drains after time and to replenish it you have to find water or food cans. It creates kind off a timer and you are constantly stressed because of it. Add this to the fact that you need a lot of time to find all notes and needed items. And of course the amount of hunger items is limited.
-The Zombies. There is only one weapon to fight them: the crowbar. But the location is random and it could be that it's almost at the end of the map. The crowbar sucks. You have just one attack. The problem is you die after 3 hits, health items are really rare and it's extremly hard to fight zombies and avoiding beeing hit. It's really a bad combat system.
BUT Zombies are extremly slow and you usually can outrun and ignore them. The only problem is if you encounter zombies in little rooms, there it could be that they hit you. But in general they aren't a huge problem. Just avoid them and you are fine 99% of the time. It would be a better game without them. Same with the hunger.
-The only way to save is by sleeping in a save room. But they are really rare, it takes a lot of time to find the first one and if you save it will cost you about half of the full hunger bar. I used this once or twice in my first run where I failed by the way because I couldn't find the needed items. And in my other runs I didn't even use the save system, because hunger items are too limited. Also in my last run this was bugged, for some reason I couldn't save. But of course this means if you die, you have to restart from the beginning. Permadeath always sucks.
Just make a save system which does not punish you for using it and make more save rooms.
I only recommend this to masochists.
The idea is nice, but the realization is utter crap. Bugged controls, when you can hit the zombie 30% of time, and sometimes the crowbar simply lags. And that fucking "random" items placement. The developer must stop being an asshole and place the crowbar in one exact spot, or remove it for good. And unkillable enemies which can spot you from a mile distance even without a flashlight or noise. Come on, man, don't make that "game" even more miserable.
If you bought those horse apples, better return it fast.
UPD: Want an advice? Remove the crowbar and both unkillable fast zombies completely, make that game about tactics, not about trolling the players, polishing your developer's e-peen.
Update: Same shit! Fucking glitchy stuff!
Latest update: Still not rec. Will rec ONLY when the developer stops boasting and trolling: what's called now "Easy mode" is actually NORMAL difficulty, under the given game's conditions. What's called "Normal mode" should be named hard, yet still the "bosses" must be made killable but with a crapload of HP. Definitely their detection radius must be the same as of the enemies in e.g. METRO. Sneak and lights off should actually work, otherwise it's still overpriced crap!
I love this game. It reminds me of Stalker, Metro, 35mm and Penumbra. Maybe I`m weird but I just love the sensation in games when you are alone in a mysterious, dark, claustrophobic places especially subways, subteran tunnels or other underground places when everything is quiet and dark and you only have a flashlight, then hear strange distant noises, you don`t know where are coming from, or footsteps and then you look desperately for a place to hide and watch what is going on from a safe place.
This is a fantastic game. Excellent models of two Moscow-style metro stations, primary and intermediate tunnels, service rooms, stairs. If you love Moscow-style subways, you'll fall in love with this game.
Story is simple and clean, as you keep discovering the truth. The atmosphere perfectly reflects dreams of digging Moscow subway. And those who love zombies, you won't be disappointed.
Highly recommended!
Played only 10 mins of it and im shitting my pants already!
The dark atmosphere is great..
Feels like Metro.. im meaning the dark creepy tunnels not the metro style gameplay.
I know i cant really say much after 10 mins but yeh first impressions are good.
Good horror game with elements of survival. Music is really good. Worth the money.

The developer aka BearFighterDev has created a deceit survival horror game alone. That in itself isn't the easiest thing to do.
He has been actively patching as the last patch was 6 days ago.
Yes Unreal4 has options to let you pick up and spin 1000's of objects to inspect them but many developers are using this for every object in the game and to be honest if its not a clue I'm not impressed with it. Its being overused.
Let me start with the pros
Pros:
Ambience is perfectly timed for the jump factor moments, and always has a way of making you turn around to see what is stalking you. The game is not easy, and you wont just breeze your way through effortlessly. I wanted a gun right off the bat. Heck I would have taken a bat, but it adds to the challenge of sneaking around to find objects you need to advance into the depths of the game.
The use of play-through scenarios adds a lot of replay value to the game.
Attack animations are much improved with the last patch. I was very impressed.
Clues are straight forward as notes on walls, tables, the game has a journal and inventory system
Cons:
I would have liked to see more use of particle effects, physics like papers blowing around, objects getting knocked off making noise because you bumped into them, and freaking yourself out.
Which is my segue to my next con. Not a lot of objects, the game is pretty barren, but I guess in a train subway there wouldn't be much.
Hiding spots. This is always a fun perk to be able to duck inside a cabinet while you wait out the hoard of undead to pass you by.
Hunger is a little to fast. I almost feel it really didn't need to be in the game at all.
Conclusion:
I think this is a good game from a single developer, and anyone who likes survival horror games will appreciate the effort put into the game.

Very nice atmospheric indie horror game. Kinda has a nice monstrum feel. Definitley worth the money for a few good weekend nights of sacring yourself
I'm honestly always give good review in any game. Except this game!! Refund request sent.
Quite good horror in which the main purpose is survival in the subway. For the time that I played this game, I noticed two drawbacks. The graphics could be more detailed. Still very monotonous locations can quickly get bored. And generally, I advise to purchase.
Никогда не писал отзывы, но это шлак еще тот. Атмосферный шлачелло.
Игры похожие на Tunnels of Despair
