Really Great HOG! music and puzzles are engaging and grateful for the colourful characters too.
Loved the jazz music, atmosphere & the in-depth storyline. Very unique!
The HOG scenes are excellent with lots of variety in the things to locate & ways to find them. For example matching pairs & combining things. In fact, the HOG scenes are like their own self contained mini games! Great fun.
The puzzles are 75% absurdly easy and 25% moderate, normally I prefer a bit more of a challenge.
I like that the bonus chapter used new scenes, I find it lazy programming when bonus chapters repeat scenes. Despite the easy puzzles, those awesome HOG scenes made up for it. A good game overall.
UPDATE: After the game is over, check the extras for more minigames and help the music shop owner rebuild his shop! Nice touch & happy ending! :)
I liked this game very much. I love music and although not a fan of jazz at all, i liked the unusual way about the whole game. These seem to be very clever Devs! I loved the bright colours and the hidden objects was different to a lot of other games. I thought i'd bought the rock n roll one, but doesn't appear to be on the two i chose yet sure one of them was. But i have an idea, in the future i think i will be buying more games by Cadenza! Rosina Lock x
I have played this game many, many times and I am not bored with it yet! It is atmospheric, with a terrific story line and enjoyable jazz music. A bit of suspense too!
Why can't I play it twice?
After I finished this game,it can't start again when I click the button "play".It only white "you have finished the main game"or"you have finished the bonus chapter".
I have to say that this is one of the best HoGs I have ever played. The story was very intriguing, the cut scenes were great, the variety of puzzles mixed in with HO scenes were perfect, and the music is outstanding. I normally rush through these games because I end up finding the premise annoying. But this one I stayed on to play the bonus chapter right through. I HIGHLY recommend this game. It is a breath of fresh air.
Very nice game. I love the sound/music in the game.
Wow, this is one of the best hidden object games I have played, and I have played QUITE a few!. The music is phenomenal (oldtime jazz)! It has some very unique hidden object type puzzles along with the standard fare. The characters are interesting and developed with excellent voice acting. The graphics are super nice with great detail and vivid colors.
This is the kind of game that makes me follow the developer. Well, if I wasn't already...
Another quality hidden-object game from Madhead, except the play it a little bit too safe. They should experiment a bit, like they did in Adam Wolfe.
This is a decent little HOG. Theming, atmosphere & plotline is where this one thrives - though the gameplay logic felt a little wonky to me at multiple points (but this tends to be the case with many titles in this genre). The developers did a great job coming up with different & varied types of puzzles, rather than just a long string of standard look-n-find scenes with the occasional environment puzzle.
While I do prefer the 9 Clues series overall, Cadenza is a good choice for a storytelling experience and if you're already a fan of HOGs, there's no doubt you will enjoy this one.
Short version: 89%
Cadenza is a gripping murder drama packed into a spectacular hidden object game with an even greater soundtrack.
Long version:
'Cadenza: Music, Betrayal and Death' brings us back to New Orleans in the 1940s, to the age where jazz was still in full swing. However, when a ghostly saxophone player takes his revenge on her father, the game's protagonist quickly learns that the smooth tunes can also hide some dark secrets.
Many hidden object games have excellent writing, but I think a short review like this is not enough to tell how good Cadenza is. It is a gripping crime mystery with a perfect pace that never breaks the game flow but also accompanies us from the first cut-scene to the end. Oh, and the soundtrack is just amazing, naturally.
We have nothing to fear about gameplay either. The adventure-lite parts stay in the background just enough to let the two dozen excellent hidden object scenes and the varied puzzles shine. At least as long as we remain in the main story because the bonus chapter introduces a bit too much moon logic over the otherwise strangely realistic tone.
First off I want to say this is one of best HOG's I've played so far. I have a total of 26 under my belt so I know I'll probably find better out there but that game will have to do a lot to match the enjoyment I got playing this game.
This game has the standard HOS but also throws in twist like one HOS has two silhouettes talking to each other and you have to interpret their conversation and find the object inferred. Brilliantly done and done within the evolving story. Also done within the story were puzzles that featured a black and white picture with one colored object that you had to place in the correct location in the picture which colored a section and gave you more background story which was narrated. You did this until the picture was completely colorized. Some of these were easy but some of them had you thinking to make the connection. Most of the puzzles were on the easy side but not too easy and that was OK by me.
I'm not going to say anything to give away the story which seemed appropriate for the setting which is New Orleans French Quarter. I live actually not too far away from the Quarter and I worked for twenty years just a stones throw away and the Quarter depicted in this game is a mere shadow of the real location but for a HOG I wouldn't expect fidelity, maybe in a RPG or elaborate adventure game. It was the music which really pulled you into the setting.
The artwork is beautiful, vibrant, colorful and the music is soothing in a jazzy way. In fact in the extra section of the game which you can fully access after playing the full game and bonus round there is a music section which features some pretty good tunes and I will keep this game on my hard drive just to play the music now and then. There were also some very well done puzzles in this game. One that stood out concerned a sailor/bar owner and you get to look at his tattoos and that is all I will say about that.
There is something done in this game that I'm not a big fan of but was handled very well. You had to look for musical notes in every scene and you also looked for collectables. The reason I'm not a fan is that if you get involved with the story your mind doesn't remember to look for these hidden objects in every scene and if you do you are usually distracted from the story which in this case was pretty good. As a result you don't get a chance to find every "note" or whatever object the game will have you hunt. Sometimes, as was the case with game, scenes will become locked preventing you from traveling to them. When you complete the game and bonus round there is a section in the extras that allow you to go back to every scene where you missed the note or object and find them giving you that sense of completion. I thought that was a nice thoughtful touch and shows that the developer values our time and wants us to enjoy their product. I wish every HOG did this.
One final note and I hope this is not too revealing. There is a tragic event that leads to a lost for a character in the game. In the extras section you get to make things right. I found this quite moving. The people involved in this game have big hearts. That was a nice touch.
For a HOG, this is pretty good. It is hampered by the confines of its genre, but the soundtrack goes above and beyond to be actually good, and everything else is, you know, not awful! I'm also especially pleased that no one tried to remove nails with a set of pliers in this one, so someone on the team has at least been near a tool before.
Wow. A lot of folks in the HOG group love this game but no one has reviewed it. It's spectacular. The setting is different, New Orleans. And the game does have a kind of Big Easy feel to it. The puzzles are also different, so it adds a slight bit of difficutlty in gettting used to the game dynmics. Even though the hidden objects are rarely covered up they are not that easy to find. A fine use of color and shading and I did not feel the developers were cheating. The developers do play around with the HOG part of the game. Sometimes you find the picture object, some times you find the object by word and sometime you have to affix the oject to it relation.
The only puzzle draw back is the one where you have to complete a picture by placing a color object over a black and while image. Most of the time this puzzle is easy but there are a few that were head scratchers. Hints to the rescue.
Very nice story that was completely appropriate to its setting. The voice acting sadly is kind of lacking although not any worse than many HOGs. But the music was excellent. A kind of film noir/ smooth jazz. It's really different and fun playing a game to this music.
The art work in this game is also exellent. Detailed with vibrant colors and images.
The only draw back to this game is the extra story they attach to the game after completion. Typically these types of games in the GENRE give a back story to one of the game characters. Usaully a victim or the bad guy. As this genre moves forward, I wish they would just incorportate that stuff into the regular game play. I think extra content based on some of the good guys, like the music shop operator, or the mystic AFTER the game events would be far more satisfying.
Ultimately, a great game that should be played by all lovers of Hidden Object Games.
