The protagonist is Niki, a little girl who finds herself in a nightmare, even though she doesn't even remember the time she went to bed. She's somewhat quick to realize that she cannot wake up from this nightmare, and the dream may not even be completely her own.
In physical battle, most of her enemies can kill her in an instant, so she has to rely on her smarts instead of her strength in order to overcome them, hide from them or trap them.

Pretty fun puzzler and platformer. Puzzles aren't too tough and the game is pretty straightforward. Some rough edges but you can save anywhere.
all doors looks same I lost a billion times even start , I actually cant handle . also loading screens are so long changing room is a torture. its buyable good puzzle game , but Im done. not recommended
Too platformish for me.
A little adventure game that mix platforming and some point and click adventure elements.
The main focus for me was to figure out what was going on in the story, it can seem very trivial in the beginning (i like it anyway), but there is a point where the story turns the table. This was neither good nor bad, cause it is not so original but at least was something different from the initial direction of the story, and looking at the big picture of the story everything get back in place. The only real problem that i've with the story is the ending, i can say with no doubt that the ending is the dev running out of schedule and rushing it. Very unsatisfactory ending for me, really rushed.
Overdreamer is an interesting game, so simple and yet so satisfying. The plot is about a girl trapped in a never-ending nightmare, having to deal with horrible creatures, twisted geometries and a world full of darkness. The game alternates between complex puzzles, quick fightings and very hard platform sequences. The history is well developed but also quiet expected, without any real surprise.
The art style is really beautiful, with an interesting color palette and character that looks like to be part of a movie of Tim Burton.
The combat is guided by the position of the cursor, so the attack can be directed to higher or lower enemies. It is simple, a bit clunky, but effective, and I appreciated how the game is not only “run or hide” but feature an actual defense system.
But the best part is when the main character will learn the ability to turn into a fly. This feature add a new level of exploration and complexity because can be used everywhere and at any moment. The sky is no more the limit and you can freely explore everywhere you want, searching the way to advance or just new secrets (like a mysterious recently added hidden level).
Overdreamer is a classic but nice surreal-horror experience, with a beautiful art style and an always interesting rhythm. The game is challenging but rewarding, with many different situations and creepy characters that will keep the interest high, even if the plot is not so deep or surprising.

The Overdreamer is a horror themed puzzle-platformer that takes around 4-5 hours to complete. I skipped this game several times because the trailer was not visually appealing, which could have been a big mistake. Actually, the game does not look that bad when you consider all of the original artwork and other detail in the environment. The dark-fantasy vibe and gory animations reminds me another game with a little girl - Fran Bow. Probably the best part of the game is the narrative; also creative puzzles that complement the tone of the story. There are some infrequent glitches and the gameplay could use more polish, but overall it plays decently. If you are enthusiastic about any campy horror games, at $3 you will have a hard time finding a better experience.
Gameplay mechanics & puzzles
I was surprised in terms of how many gameplay elements the game managed to utilize. It plays like a platformer but it also incorporates other mechanics: point&click controls for inspecting, survival elements like healing items, hidings places, combat, and inventory system. The controls were actually very intuitive when compared to similar games. I found that puzzles were not too difficult and yet very creative - most of the time. You can even turn into a fly later in the game which adds more dynamic exploration. There are many semi-hard minigame puzzles but I thought they were done really well (the game almost taught me to how to play piano xD). All of the items have basic and additional description which is always a welcome feature. In general, I feel that developer put a good amount of effort into the puzzle solving aspect.
Narrative & atmosphere
The soundtrack was decent but I assume it is not original based on the credits. I liked the sinister atmosphere even though it failed to put any fear in me. While I enjoyed the story and the pacing of the plot, the game could use a better text formatting. Like put some backgrounds behind the text choices so I can see the words. Overall, the game could use some aesthetic touch when it comes to menus and showing dialogue. I found the story pretty intriguing although I don't want to give any spoilers. It has this psychological aspect where you cycle in and out of dreams. Not exactly original ideas but they were presented in a fun way.
Pros:
+ interesting narrative and characters
+ lots of mechanics and decent controls
+ many creative puzzles
+ nice variety in environments
+ good length for a cheap game
Cons:
- occasional glitches
- lacks some proper sound effects
- visual quality is not consistent (ugly menus)
- no original soundtrack
Overall Thoughts 7/10
Whenever I write a long review - it usually means that game is very creative, regardless of the price or quality. For a game that sells around $3 it was a big surprise for me. If you like games like Fran Bow or Sally Face you might get a kick out of it. Maybe it is not as good as those but I still enjoyed it a lot. Even though it lacks polish in some areas, I would still highly recommend it for anyone that likes campy horror.

The game ended a bit too soon. I was expecting more... But still, I had fun playing it.
