I played dozens of these 'solitaire' games, I never expected solitaire game can be so bad.
I also love match 3 gems (over 2000 hours in Gems of War), there are some significant aspects in this game especially for achievement hunters with match3, in this game it was the most annoying part.
It's rather simple made, I would even say primitive.
Even Menu is annoying, if you see you have no chances to win and want to restart stage you need to go back to menu and map and choose level you want to repeat again...
It's maybe not terribly bad, but I would give it 5/10.
This game made me question my level of patience a few too many times... Some levels are pain in the butt, especially the match 3 ones >.< But no matter how many times you fail miserably, you still find yourself pressing that ''start again'' button over and over...
If you don't have anything better to do in life and want to waste ''just a few minutes'' wich will turn into hours on some nerve wracking levels, then this game is for you.
As advertised, the game is zombies, solitaire, and match-3 levels. If you've played any of the other Zombie Solitaire entries, this is basically what you'd expect. If you haven't, I'd suggest starting with the next one (Zombie Solitaire 2, Chapter 2) with its better balanced match-3 levels to see how you feel about the franchise.
I'll keep these reviews brief, since there's not much to say outside of each game and other than a few quirky changes, these are pretty much some of the same +1/-1 Solitaire game mechanics found in most other solitaire games here on Steam.
Also note, at the time of this review, I never played Zombie Solitaire 1, as it doesn't have achievements and I went straight for the achievement holding Solitaire games.
The mechanics of this game are pretty much the same as most +1/-1 Solitaire games, and if you don't know what that is well I'm not explaining it in a review. this game does have some interesting powerups to help in your quest. You can also get pretty much an infinite number of Undos if you farm them right. Though it's possible the counter stops at 99, but I never got that many.
This game does have a narrative, and a choice matters cut scene system. Where you are presented with a situation, and given a couple of options to pick from, some having good outcomes or some having bad consequences, like either giving you more wild cards, or taking away all your gold. I would recommend looking at the guide for these choices here on Steam if you wish to avoid making any bad calls and losing your stuff before the next hand. But over all, the game is fairly easy... with one exception.
the next mechanic of the game is they add several levels through the game that are a very Candy Crush style match 3 games, simple at first, but each one supposed to be progressively harder. There are zombies to kill, by matching the right candies circling them, and a number of tiles to clear by breaking candies on top of them. With various obstacles in some levels like boxes that are only broken when lines are cleared next to them, or chains that prevent candy from falling unless you clear a line in the chain itself.
the problem with these, is if you're going for 100% on the achievements. One of the achievements is to get 3 stars on every match 3 stage.
You can beat the match 3 stages pretty easy, but getting 3 stars on some of this is an insane difficulty spike. Largely due to poor game design, that makes some levels purely based around dumb luck and chance on if you're able to get 3 stars before the turn limit is reached. Some levels I spent several hours on hoping for just the right combination. I spent probably more time on one match 3 level alone than all the rest of the actual hands of solitaire combine.
so be ware, if you're going for achievements, that one is a b!tch.
Once you beat this game, the cut scene at the end leads to the second chapter.... review continued there.
This is a nice sequel to Zombie Solitaire 1. It's more of the same, except that they've added some match-3 and hidden object levels for variation. Although the game is generally not that difficult, the match-3 levels can be time consuming.
I simply can't see my way to giving this one a thumbs up.
To be fair, everything works, the look is pretty cute and the sound is okay, (though it is on a very short loop, and gets annoying quickly) but there is simply too much that is disappointing.
For starters, the hidden pictures game is no fun at all. Instead of looking for specific items among an array of items, there is an item you need to find all the parts of, and they are simply stuck, very obviously, into the front of a picture. It misses the entire point of the style of game, and is ridiculously simple.
In addition, there is a match three section, where you use candy to defeat zombies. Yes, makes no darn sense, but that isn't the problem.
There are a large handful of candy types, but there is only one power-up, received from getting four in a row in one specific type of candy. Four in a row of any other candy does nothing, and a match of five or six of any type of candy, including the one that gives you a small power up for four in a row, gets you nothing.
There is also the solitaire aspect of the game. Typical fair, chains of one up or one down, suits are there but mean nothing. A real odd point is that the game relies heavily on power-up cards you can buy, but if you lose a level and choose to re-try it, the game doesn't give you the option to go back and buy more, so you really have to quit out and go back around most of the time. A strange misstep.
It really feels only partially put together, and lacking.
All in all it comes together to make a package that falls well short of interesting, or fun.
Two thumbs down.
These folks make some damn fine Solitaire games. They might all be a *little too similar* sometimes, but they're well crafted and never ball-busting frustrating.
Note: There are plenty of match-3 segments as well, but they offer a 'casual' mode to basically be unable to lose them (but you can only get 1 star), in case that's not your thing.
Ummmm... it is SUPER casual. Like, it is REALLY hard to lose any of the Solitaire games, and the most fun were the match3, which are mediocre at best.
I paid $1.34 for the game.. and for that and getting 8 hours slow-ass game time.. sure.. it gets a YES. But I am not sure I recommend this fully.
Match 3 levels are not balanced at all, last match 3 level is almost impossible to pass with 3 stars due lack of moves vs zombie's requirements. Developer promised to fix this issue 4 years ago, with sweety words while he needed attract players to buy chapter 2 and 3, but then he just abandoned all games leaving this "bugs" unsolved. This is very immature and mean step from his side and that's why he is receiving negative review from me. Game was kinda cute and I liked it, but this unbalance annoyed me whole the time I spent in match 3 levels. Hopefully next chapters will be better balanced... 😡
I didn't expect much of this game, just some chilling relax solitaire.. it was ok until about level 70.. after that, there was no level which I could win without using power ups and that is just stupid.. not even 1 star can be collected without them. I was stupid enough to buy the whole collection because it was on a big off price.. but still.
Boring, crappy, levels are not always solvable and you have to repeat it until you get good cards or grind money for power ups. Poorly designed with irritating match 3 levels which are way to difficult . One of worst solitaire I've ever played.
The match3 part has horrible balancing. from level 35 on, it is almost impossible to get 3 stars.
Good card game, from a great series of solitaire games.
There is a problem with full-screen on 4k monitors. There is a workaround posted that did not work for me. That post is from 2020 with no real fix ever implemented.
I clearly got my money's worth, with 11 hours playtime, but I'm disappointed because I found the solitaire levels to be too easy but the Match-3 levels to be way too hard. And you can't 100% the achievements unless you get 3 stars on each Match-3 level. So if you're good at Match-3 but prefer easy solitaire then this would be perfect for you.
A very good solitaire game with a nice little story, cool achievements, and trading cards.
The match 3 mini-game is very challenging. Fortunately, you can choose a "casual mode" for the mini-games that gives unlimited moves. The powerup cards are easy to attain and use, almost too easy.
Overall, a great card game. Highly recommend!
I bought all three chapters of ZS bundled on a whim, and so far I'm glad I did. Just finished Ch. 1 and had a good time playing it. I will say that there are a few levels where cards get stuck on the board and cannot be removed unless using the rifle to shoot them off. At other times a card will get stuck and not come off until a later play. This seemed to happen more often in the higher levels. I liked the power ups and found I used the Joker and the rifle more than anything. It was like Christmas when those would come hidden under cards.
While I did enjoy the game quite a bit, I HATED the match three Candy Crush type mini game! Would have loved a "Skip" button for those. I don't like that game and I was never able to beat it without going into Casual mode. It seemed way harder than it needed to be right up until the very last one.
The little text adventures were fun. The Hidden Object portions tended to be really easy, but still provided a little variation in the game.
While at times the solitaire hands did seem rather easy, overall it was fun and pretty relaxing. I'm looking forward to digging into my next two chapters!
Might be a good game, but when I run it full screen, much of the screen of unavailable and therefore the game is unplayable. Of course, the options don't allow you to select your resolution. I run 1920 x 1080, a very common resolution, and for me this is a game breaker.
Yes you can run it windowed, and it works, but the window is too small and I could not get it to resize.

Match 3 mini games are impossible to 3 star, well most of them. I think I spent more time in one of the match 3 puzzles then I did beating the whole game. Still a must have for solitaire fans for a fun, casual game to pass time.
Hooray! Zombie Solitaire got an upgrade! I liked the first game enough and now there is more of it to play through. This one is much more fun, active and has more games: such as match-3 and hidden object (but mostly you play the card games). Events that pop up make you think. You get upgrades and other useful items + pretty stickers! Who doesn't want to collect those? We all do! Match 3 was the most hardest obsticle that I found, but I got lucky enough to win. Woo! ^-^ Can't wait to play more of these. Thank you for making this game!!! :))))))!
Surprisingly good. I truly could have lived without the manditory "Candy Crush" level set but this game isn't that bad. If you liked the first Z.S., this game is 'more of the same'.
