fun
FlatOut isn’t just a racing game – it’s pure chaos on wheels! 🚗💥 It’s not just about finishing first – it’s about whether your car can even make it to the finish line 😂. Destructible environments, insane crashes, and drivers flying out of their cars like ragdolls – this is pure madness! If you love racing games where crashing is part of the fun, then FlatOut is a must-play!
Still good to this day
Controller users be ware. The game does come with functional Steam input bindings with a few caveats. Throttle and break needs to be unbound from the left stick or you will occasionally stall when trying to steer. Analog inputs are not supported. How hard you tilt the stick doesn't affect wheels' turn angle. Same thing with throttle and breaking and triggers.
It's best to disable Steam Input. That will make left stick function as it should but triggers still wont work.
It's pretty fun otherwise, and has lots of cool music.
4/10
nostalgia
just one word, classic.
.
I did not grow up with this game, despite that however.
This is a pretty good game, would recommend.
good
game of my childhood.
FlatOut
Has a total of 6 trading cards.
THIS GAME AGED LIKE FINE VINE
Runs great, even 20 years after release, feeling nostalgic over this game =)
Finished for the first time in 2005. At that time this game felt unreal. 20 years later, I play the same game, finish for the second time. Game fully supports 4K resolution, looks so ahead of its time, plays amazingly, soundtrack is outstanding. Its in my top 3 arcade racing games of all time. So worth it
Fast paced, easy to learn
hi
A really nice arcade racing game from the mid 2000: with a great variety of tracks, wacky extra mode,a great soundtrack with a lot of rock from the era and an impressive (at the time) destruction model for the cars makes the game a classic in a genre lost to time in my opinion, but unfortunately not everything is done well in this game, for example: the handling of the cars was sometimes atrocious and difficult to really control the car how you wanted, the AI was inconsistent, sometimes was impossible to win and sometimes was like I was racing alone and finally...who was the idea for the snow stage? Just asking because was a nice change of scenery but man, they were impossible sometimes to drive in it.
In the end the game is really good, like a said a style of racing game lost to time.
Ram through pile-ups and smash through your windshield as you push racing to the edge! FlatOut™ delivers more heart-stopping thrills than any sane driver can handle!
Typical racing game of early 2000s, nothing special
+ Car handling is quite enjoyable
+ Nice OST
+ No rubber banding or it's unnoticeable
+ Warming graphics of late ps2 era
- Game marked as "steam deck verified", but in default controls left stick is fully mapped to keyboard arrows, so you can accidentally use brakes while trying to turn. Unplayable till you change controls mapping. Easy to fix, but such an effortless move by the devs
- Some maps are buggy mess with random collisions and bumps
- All cars feels the same
- Single game mode, except bonus
- Too simplified physics for bots, it's just trains on rails in late game
So, it has been a great yet hard and unfun experience. Let's say this game focuses more on physics over gameplay....
So the rating is:
9/10 physics,
5/10 playability
7/10 replayability
10/10 graphics (for it's initial release date),
Why is playability rated only at 5 and replayability is at 7? Well... The point is that game isn't beginner friendly, because of it's none-arcade gameplay. But as soon as you start to understand this game more, you'll find it more fun that you thought it was at the start. Though i spent only 8 hours at the game i've really got into it and been able to beat full career. Probably will be replaying this game again on manual mode.
So... The question is: could i recommend this game? Yeah, definitely.
Crash into your opponents until you drive them out of the race, or just simply outrun your opponents, both work.
If only every game aged as well as this one.
There's quite a bit that I enjoy but I'm wondering when my car will stop constantly stalling? Nearly every race coming nearly to a complete stop sometimes 7 or 8 times in 1 lap. I have the 148 hp engine upgrade, port and polish, engine balancing, 2nd clutch, 1st exhaust, exhaust manifold, max suspension, max tires, and body upgrade. I have raced dozens of races most of which I did not medal because of the stalling. I will lead for most of the race, stall out real bad then get spun around by another racer and struggle to pass #8. Several times I came to a COMPLETE STOP within inches of the finish line. I don't know why anyone with a car that runs that poorly would enter a race. It is exceedingly frustrating after 11 upgrades to the vehicle in career mode. EDIT: This behavior is a result of bad default controller bindings which I still have not been able to resolve.
WOOOW The graphics of this game is way AHEAD OF ITS TIME for a 2005 game... I Highly recommend this for racing fans who loves to wreck their opponents
good
Racing and the keyboard are a hard combination. Just looses the into it feeling. Good old school game.
Special in its own way
Among the best
A lot
Very much
Liked
Was cool
Managed to finish it....... had enough fun to give it a like though
I tried....
goated game. wish the rest of the series held on to the legacy of this one.
I used to play this game with my best friend on his dad's computer back in 2005, on good old Windows XP. These were some of my best childhood memories and I'm so glad it's still supported 2 decades later, so that it runs on modern hardware without a single problem.
I paid aprox. 2 euros for this game on a sale and got the following:
- a complete racing experience with different levels, environments, cars and game modes
- beautiful 2004 graphics and game engine with ragdoll physics
- straightforward progression system
- upgrades and dealership for the cars
- a balanced level of difficulty and AI that didn't hinder my races, but wasn't stupid either
- ZERO DLC, ZERO MICROTRANSACTIONS, ZERO BS!!
This is coming from an avid shooter fan. Grew up with racing games but they were never my go-to option when gaming. This was a fun title though and a very nice experience.
I'd rate it a well deserved 9.5/10
Jank Controls, Good Cars, awesome Selection of Songs, Decent mods, and Fun Tracks.
This game won't make your PC Burnin' Like a Twenty-Seven Year Old Lie, but it Might make you feel like You're Living American with the way cars Crash like if it were Atlanta, Georgia.
The NPCs in the Gold Cup Become Heartless.
the Framerate was stable as well.
foarte
besides be a 2005 game, the graphics and playability are good, and super funny

Most people I know have played FlatOut 2 first.
FlatOut 1 is awesome in its own way. Totally worth to play.
First of all it's the physics and vehicle damage system you already know. Remember what a revolution it was for the year of the game.
Aesthetics. Here FlatOut 1 is a cozy world of retro (60's-70's) racing cars, challenging tracks and especially songs. Sountrack is incredible and unique. It's all fueled with badass energy of speed and derby. That's why I enjoy to play back the game sometimes.
Remember to tune your car. I recommend to upgrade a car body to have more driving control in cases of collisions, and a gearbox to switch gears faster, because it's pretty easy to accidentally do a U-turn after falling to 1st gear.
Also shortcuts are very interesting and may win you the race, so try to search and use them.
Talking about cons.
Career is pretty short, though each and every track is detailed and challenging in it's own way.
Derby events unfortunately don't have a nitro here so it's not that fun.
And I don't remember if it always was like that, but there is one song for the race that's being repeated. You have to restart the race to hear another song :)
Yeah and is it just me or draw distance is really low here? Always see objects being drawn in front of me and couldn't find a solution.
So much fun!!
Местами сложная, но в целом приятная гоночка на 5-7 часов из бандла по цене дешевого энергоса.
Единственное, что раздражает - ресеты могут на пол круга назад откатить по какой-то причине :\
<3 very cool
Game decides to cut off my acceleration whenever i hit a small bump, i played the gog version before and wanted to buy it on steam for Widescreen and mods but like... i can barely enjoy this game when half the time i have to reapply the right trigger or else i go from first to last

its a good game
Runs great in 4K 100Hz.
Amazing Soundtrack, great junk yard racing feel.
Disable Steam Input to get analogue controls.
Still fun 20 years later
not the best think, old but gold? nuuuh
My favorite game in the flatout series. Got this game first on the Playstation 2 but was not able to finish it 100% until now.
Love the way how the vehicle handle.
Only downside is that there is no online multiplayer, only LAN.
"Oh look, a little traffic cone! It will surely do nothing to my 1600 kg car!!!" *rides over cone* "Why is my 1600kg car flipping at 100000 rpm"
such and awesome game, lots of chaotic mayhem all the time and that's just what a racing game needs.
wish you could own more than one car at a time though. this one is still a banger despite that. if you like wreckfest you should totally pick this one up!
Hell yeah! Better than I remember!
