A masterpiece racing game. I like the handling. I like the graphics. I like the music. I like the tracks. The game progression is decent. It is hard to believe that this game is like 20 years old. It stands the test of time and the developers put their hearts and soul into the game. Something that is rare to see nowadays, where we usually receive an unfinished and buggy dumpster fire of a game. The game is 10/10 in my book. I have completed it multiple times.

I'm barely into it but I made a do not recommend with some truth to it. if you wanna play with controller or on the deck you might have to ask or so what others said to get it playable but once you do so it's a pretty fun game. Someone said like wreckfest but with a 2000s era shine and that's right on the money. Also same person said same developer so makes sense. I'll put more time in and refine this but yea def a cool and fun game once I got controller inputs to work on deck without chicanery. once again check the community if you plan to play with a controller or on deck.

A bit clunky and unfair at times, but a pretty fun and cheap racing game. If you like older racing games, you will like this one. The physics were way ahead of their time, but they show their age.

МАЛОИЗВЕСТНЫЙ ФАКТ: до того как стать известным аниме-режисёром, Миядзаки расставлял на трассах Flatout холмы и кочки, а также ветки деревьев, что закрывают обзор на 180°-ый поворот. Ладно игроки проходят эти трассы раз в жизнь, но ведь ИИ видят ЭТО каждый божий запуск игры.
Зачем улучшать машину, если через круг она превратиться в сраную лягушку, что не держит сцепления дольше 1 секунды!?
Соперники не умеют держать удар (даже от других ИИ), зато они настоящие профи ралли и не уступят первое место, проходя идеально поворот за поворотом.
Мини-карта не поворачивается, а ваша тачка на после лёгкого толчка соперника ЕЩЁ КАК!

this game for its time is absolutely peak in my humble opinion. the perfect balance of arcade and simulation to have a fun time but the handling still makes sense. giving me hope that bugbear sticks to their roots and makes wreckfest 2 fore like this other than wreckfest 1. and the fact that i can come back to it over 20 years after release and do another play through says enough for me. 5 / 5 stars from me all day!

FlatOut is a one of many gems of 2000's era of gaming. This racing game is quite short, but offers a unique experience of racing derby cars across various locations, while ramming other race cars and other cars ramming you back. The career mode itself is divided into three classes, and in each class you have to beat every race in order to get to the next one. Cars are also divided into three classes by the way, but you can upgrade them instead of buying a new one. Apart from that, there are two handling models, "Normal" and "Professional", which can be chosen when you create a save profile. Also, the soundtrack is quite nice and is a good accessory to the thriling gameplay.

I used to play this game for hours 20 years ago only from a demo that came with a magazine, finally have enough money for the full game :D

If you like racing games that are unforgiving then you'll love this game. It's like most racing games but it is definitely one of the more infuriating racing games i played. I loved the bonus Olympic games as a fun way to earn money without actually racing to fling my driver through the windshield as far or high or efficiently as possible. The controls are definitely dated and it may be worth you using one of the community controller layouts like i had to.
I'm not mad the game made me quit in the silver races. It's well built for it's time and i havent touched racing games in a while and my reflexes are slowing down. I just don't have time to waste on games i cant beat because i made one or two miscalculations.
Watch out for ice!

If you played Wreckfest before then this will feel familiar to you cause it's made by the same developer!

The only exception is that the graphics are made in 2005 but it still holds up pretty well with the deformation (In comparison to the Burnout series) and driving physics (Feels like Dirt 2 or the Driver series).

Otherwise, it's a fun, short and challenging but forgiving game if you wanna 100% it which I spent around 4 hours total.

*** You need to change the configuration of the controller to a gamepad layout. For some reason, it will work normally for the 1st hour but it will randomly stopped working after that.

I read a review that said this game is like a bar fight with cars, and it's totally accurate.

One of the best arcade racing games of all time! (runs smoothly on Linux)

FlatOut is a short pure, unfiltered chaos on wheels. Every race feels like a bar fight with engines, cars flying, parts scattering, and drivers soaring through windshields like ragdoll rockets. The physics are wild, the destruction is satisfying. It doesn’t take itself seriously, and that’s exactly why it’s fun. A true gem for fans of arcade racing and mayhem. imo pretty decent game for a 2005 game.

Challenging but fun, the title is very accurate! I grew up on NFS but this is just as fun, and far more satisfying to smash up cars in. Controller bindings need some work and I wish the multiplayer was more modern, rather than relying on port-forwarding, but singleplayer this game is loads of fun.

Still good to this day

Controller users be ware. The game does come with functional Steam input bindings with a few caveats. Throttle and break needs to be unbound from the left stick or you will occasionally stall when trying to steer. Analog inputs are not supported. How hard you tilt the stick doesn't affect wheels' turn angle. Same thing with throttle and breaking and triggers.

It's best to disable Steam Input. That will make left stick function as it should but triggers still wont work.

It's pretty fun otherwise, and has lots of cool music.

Finished for the first time in 2005. At that time this game felt unreal. 20 years later, I play the same game, finish for the second time. Game fully supports 4K resolution, looks so ahead of its time, plays amazingly, soundtrack is outstanding. Its in my top 3 arcade racing games of all time. So worth it

A really nice arcade racing game from the mid 2000: with a great variety of tracks, wacky extra mode,a great soundtrack with a lot of rock from the era and an impressive (at the time) destruction model for the cars makes the game a classic in a genre lost to time in my opinion, but unfortunately not everything is done well in this game, for example: the handling of the cars was sometimes atrocious and difficult to really control the car how you wanted, the AI was inconsistent, sometimes was impossible to win and sometimes was like I was racing alone and finally...who was the idea for the snow stage? Just asking because was a nice change of scenery but man, they were impossible sometimes to drive in it.
In the end the game is really good, like a said a style of racing game lost to time.

Typical racing game of early 2000s, nothing special

+ Car handling is quite enjoyable
+ Nice OST
+ No rubber banding or it's unnoticeable
+ Warming graphics of late ps2 era

- Game marked as "steam deck verified", but in default controls left stick is fully mapped to keyboard arrows, so you can accidentally use brakes while trying to turn. Unplayable till you change controls mapping. Easy to fix, but such an effortless move by the devs
- Some maps are buggy mess with random collisions and bumps
- All cars feels the same
- Single game mode, except bonus
- Too simplified physics for bots, it's just trains on rails in late game

So, it has been a great yet hard and unfun experience. Let's say this game focuses more on physics over gameplay....

Why is playability rated only at 5 and replayability is at 7? Well... The point is that game isn't beginner friendly, because of it's none-arcade gameplay. But as soon as you start to understand this game more, you'll find it more fun that you thought it was at the start. Though i spent only 8 hours at the game i've really got into it and been able to beat full career. Probably will be replaying this game again on manual mode.
So... The question is: could i recommend this game? Yeah, definitely.

Crash into your opponents until you drive them out of the race, or just simply outrun your opponents, both work.

If only every game aged as well as this one.

There's quite a bit that I enjoy but I'm wondering when my car will stop constantly stalling? Nearly every race coming nearly to a complete stop sometimes 7 or 8 times in 1 lap. I have the 148 hp engine upgrade, port and polish, engine balancing, 2nd clutch, 1st exhaust, exhaust manifold, max suspension, max tires, and body upgrade. I have raced dozens of races most of which I did not medal because of the stalling. I will lead for most of the race, stall out real bad then get spun around by another racer and struggle to pass #8. Several times I came to a COMPLETE STOP within inches of the finish line. I don't know why anyone with a car that runs that poorly would enter a race. It is exceedingly frustrating after 11 upgrades to the vehicle in career mode. EDIT: This behavior is a result of bad default controller bindings which I still have not been able to resolve.

WOOOW The graphics of this game is way AHEAD OF ITS TIME for a 2005 game... I Highly recommend this for racing fans who loves to wreck their opponents
