Welcome to 1bitHeart―the latest title from Alicemare and LiEat developer △○□× (Miwashiba). In this unique and endearing adventure game, take on the role of Nanashi, a lonely, agoraphobic boy, as you solve a slew of mysteries around town while also making friends.
This is the story of a world in which pretty much everything is controlled and watched over by computer programs.
One day, Nanashi―a young boy who has been cooped up in his room―meets a mysterious girl.
“Let’s make some friends.”
“OK!”
Nanashi accepts the young girl’s sudden invitation without giving it much thought.
At that very moment, some very strange things begin to occur in town...
Detective Part (Story Mode)
Gather information and topics by exploring the town and speaking with people to progress through the story.
Conversation Part (Story Mode)
Use the topics and info you’ve gathered to piece together conversations while progressing through the story. (The game ends when your HP reaches 0.)
Free Mode (After clearing Story Mode)
Talk and mingle with the residents of the town, make friends, and play mini games in Free Mode.
*This title was originally a free game, but the Steam version includes specially added events, etc.
This was the 3rd game I made, where I first experimented with a side-scrolling system, voice over and detective elements.
I probably spent the most time working on these 3 things, including revisions.
When designing the town, I had foreign cartoons in mind and was aiming more towards a foreign audience than a Japanese one.
However, the game is set in Japan of the near future and the character design is aimed more towards the Japanese aesthetic.
I took advantage of the fact the game is set in Japan to make some cultural references here and there.
"An adventure game where you make friends". Not a typical tag-line, but if there is any aspect that takes your fancy I hope you will play my game!

characters are very charming and dialogue is fun to read!! the more you interact with the characters, the more invested you grow in the world, and it aligns with how the protagonist nanashi becomes more attached to the world as well. it's a nice bit of story-telling. this game has very strong themes of connection and self-love, and i like how the message is that even if you don't like yourself, by growing closer to other people and caring for them, you'll eventually learn to treasure yourself too. overall, fun game!
making friends was the most enjoyable part, story is pretty boring in my opinion
Outstanding little social RPG game!
The art style is gorgeous and I love the OST!
7/10
Alas it just wasn't gripping for me and I lost interest very quickly.
The art style is cute.
There was also a lack of settings options, such as struggling to find a way to get out of fullscreen, and some of the keybinds didn't work and you can't change them.
good game. miwashiba is peak
PEAK GAME YEAHHH I WOULD PLAY THIS MOREEEE
cute
You have to buy presents to raise friendship, the only way to get money is via a tetris or puyo puyo mini game which is sooo boring. The art in this game is amazing, but the actual game-play is not.
Grinding the friendship system is super tedious and all the blatent TWEWY copies are cheap as heck. Inspiring yourself is fine, but don't just copy that one math-obsessed gimmick to your own OCs...
Overall I like this game more than I dislike it, but I don't think I would recommend it. If you want to experience the game, I don't think you would lose anything by watching a Let's Play instead.
Getting into it:
The majority character designs are really solid, which for the sheer amount of characters in the game, is kind of insane. Actually befriending the characters (the main focus of the game), I think at least half of the free time events/friendship events were good but there were a lot that I didn't feel anything about or just disliked. There's one big thing here that made the difference between me not liking this game at all and not minding it, which is that the tokens you use to buy gifts for characters can be easily obtained through... well, intentional cheating. Finding the hidden spot that gives you max tokens removes the grind I know I would've otherwise hated and felt was not worth it.
The music is pretty good, the vocal tracks remind me of TWEWY or Persona, though it distracts from the dialogue at times. There's also no settings option for some reason- if you want to adjust the volume (and the game was pretty loud by default) then you have to do it through the volume mixer.
In general I liked the story and the general themes well enough but when I think back on the game it feels... shallow? Boring? In the end I got all the achievements out of wanting to 100% the game rather than really wanting to get the most out of the game. 1bitHeart certainly isn't an expensive game, but I still think your time and money is better spent elsewhere.
If you like Ace Attorney this is the game for you.
